'Literally', like 'really', is used for emphasis as well. I find it funny no one bitches when someone says "I really screwed the pooch on that test" even though it has the same meaning as "I literally screwed the pooch on that test".

Both words have been used in that context since they first appeared in print. Just let it go man. It's only a way for the mediocre to feel smarter about themselves.

Yes, but when something has been used a certain way forever, it does make it correct.

And that's the thing, we do have examples of literally being used as an intensifier since its earliest use.

Not to mention that technically "He literally bit my face off." is also an incorrect use as literally means "word for word" and refers to translations that were done without changing the words (as an example most of the problem with Japanese-English translations comes from translating literally).

I think what sometimes happens is they'll see it on facebook think it's hilarious and go to reddit where it may have just got sent off the front page. They don't see it, and upload it again. That's the benefit of the doubt.

I cannot remember exactly what the post was.. it was not a meme.. it was some piece of news.. Anyways a few months ago there was a post that was re-posted about ever 2 hours all day long.. so 7-8 re-posts in less than a day.. Each post hit 2000 up votes (after the down votes)

Not one person made a comment about re-posts.

I think that is just how BIG and busy Reddit is... Some days you can make the same post 9 times and 1,000,000 people will see it for the first time ever. without the other 8,000,000 ever noticing the repost... Reddit is just THAT big.

Just my theory.. This is not always the case... some people get destroyed for posting 10 year old content.. others can repost the same thing 9 times in 1 day.

Those are just subscribers. There are probably way more lurkers.. In fact there may be 10x more lurkers with no accounts, thus no sub.

Also my numbers are inferred/random/exaggerated stats. The actual numbers are not important, just that something was reposted multiple times in 1 day and each repost hit 1000 to 2000+ upvotes each time.(after the down votes were subtracted.)

Also I just wanted to clarify I am not complaining about reposts... I am just pointing out how many times something can be reposted in 1 day and still be new to thousands/millions of people.

You also have to realize that there is a difference in gender. We're not the same but with differen't anatomy. Men are naturally steonger, more sexually aggressive, and fall into dumb primate mode a little easier. It's what lies at the bottom of all the fear of men and hyperprotectiveness of women that we're seeing. Media reporting tons of rape is a huge part of it too of course, and women fear the guy walking behind them at night is a rapist because they know rape happens in their town at night, and because they know they aren't strong enough to fight back.

But yeah, the real problem is that the traits i mentioned first about men is overestimated and exagerrated, so that if a man genuinely is the victim of rape or sexual harassment by a woman, he isn't taken seriously.
