Yes, those are the parts of your body where apocrine sweat is produced which is the kind that bacteria can feed on. The rest of your body produces eccrine sweat which is mostly salt water and doesn't support bacterial growth. Also apocrine sweat has more things in it which are poorly water soluble which is why hot water will clean a sweaty chest or back completely but is insufficient for armpits and the crotch.

[–]aboardthegravyboat 14 points15 points ago

I came here to say this... overscrubbing all those other parts will cause your skin to dry out. It's actually healthy to do what the pic says.

[–]DaMountainDwarf 1 point2 points ago

Really? Interesting. Any sources by chance to back that up? I'm not a germ freak, but hey healthy is healthy.

[–]greensy 1 point2 points ago

Jesus I hate myself for saying this, but I heard Dr. Oz say that exact shit on his show.

[–]aboardthegravyboat 0 points1 point ago

It's been a while since I was reading about it, so you could probably look it up faster than me. Other people in this thread were more verbose and probably more accurate. It mattered to me at the time because I have a 4 year old and he was getting splotches on his back, especially during the summer. Now, I only bathe him every other day or if he stinks - it seems to help.

[–]7089tRr 2 points3 points ago

What about feet? Or is it just fungus you should worry about?

[–]complex_reduction 2 points3 points ago

I was not even remotely aware of this. You know how you kind-of-sort-of know things you heard "once a while ago"?

I've never heard this before, ever. I feel much more hygienic. Also, I kind of hate my armpits now. Fuck you armpits, what are you, bacteria buffet?

[–]mrwadia 3 points4 points ago

We don't really need apocrine sweat glands, hopefully one day we can breed them out of the human line and we'll all smell sweet as rainbows FOREVER.

[–]cited 1 point2 points ago

Only one thing about that - apocrine glands create sweat with pheremones in it. But it is true that primate eccrine glands are unique in that they provide better cooling than apocrine.

[–]AnonymousHipopotamus 0 points1 point ago

Most people just know this instictively/ only feel grody in the parts that get grody. People have been washing their asses for milenia before we had words like apocrine to describe why your crotch needs more washing than your shins.

[–]howerrd 77 points78 points ago

Close. The hands should also be red, since they are how the deep scrub is accomplished.

[–]UncleTedGenneric 97 points98 points ago

I use my mouth.

Meow.

[–]howerrd 25 points26 points ago

You're going places, kid.

[–]xebo 5 points6 points ago

When are you going to release the last Kingkiller Chronicles book?

[–]mafibasheth -1 points0 points ago

Weird, I also wear blue wife beaters in the shower.

[–]UncleTedGenneric -1 points0 points ago

Sorry to say, I is not he. I just googled something along the lines of "bear in cat ears" (just tried regoogling, to be sure, but no luck) and this was the first pic that popped up.

[–]triceracocks 1 point2 points ago

Love you so much.

[–]naughtyloaf[S] 13 points14 points ago

That is a good point.

[–]I_am_THE_GRAPIST 8 points9 points ago

I also feel that feet should be yellow at very least.

[–]littlemonster1618 15 points16 points ago

i disagree. light blue would be generous

[–]BroadStreet_Bully 1 point2 points ago

Yea, white is spot on. Hello, I'm standing in water?

[–]bumblebeesscareme 0 points1 point ago

I have to go. I have turrible... foot odor.

[–]octochan 0 points1 point ago

I too scrub my feet. Do not feel ashamed, brother in legs.

[–]sadpandabbq 3 points4 points ago

My hand would be purple.

[–]Ras_H_Tafari 1 point2 points ago

What is the sound of one hand scrubbing?

[–]CGrimz7 1 point2 points ago

For me, only one hand would be red. The other hand is busy doing other things.

[–]Lord_Vectron 1 point2 points ago

I thought "water will get it" implies that you do not scrub your hand but it will get clean anyway.

[–]inandoutgape 0 points1 point ago

you people don't use washcloths or loofahs?

[–]howerrd 0 points1 point ago

Do you use a washcloth or loofa to scrub your hair?

[–]happy_otter 0 points1 point ago

Except you're not scrubbing your hands, per se.

[–]Shitty_Lasercolor 238 points239 points ago

[–]TheAtomicPlayboy 80 points81 points ago

what is this i don't even

[–]Vikaroo 7 points8 points ago

It...it looks angry.

[–]Sinavestia 1 point2 points ago

It can smell your fear.

[–]UncleTedGenneric 21 points22 points ago

Well that's an interesting take.

Methinks i'll keep an eye on this Novelty. This has potential.

[–]Peconz 1 point2 points ago

Part of the shitty art chronicles

[–]AriBBCP 0 points1 point ago

he's a brony though, just giving you a heads up

[–]Ragnalypse 84 points85 points ago

A brony that only showcases his ability to laser color?

I guess he's a one trick brony.

[–]jsake 12 points13 points ago

ZING

[–]Fishbone_V 14 points15 points ago

Why would that matter? That's like saying "That guy is an ent*, so watch out".

Edit: Relevancy.

[–]CinnamonTeemo 3 points4 points ago

That motherfucker likes something I don't like! Fuck him! Fuck people having opinions!

[–]Sinavestia 1 point2 points ago

God Darnit!!! Get the torches and pitchforks! Burn his house down and drink his blood!!!

[–]Tallain 1 point2 points ago

Interestly, so is NSFW_Full_Stop.

[–]crackshot91 1 point2 points ago

I have so very few problems with this.

[–]Geminel 0 points1 point ago

At first glance I had thought it was Shitty_Lite-Brite

[–]Sinavestia 0 points1 point ago

Why have I not heard of this Before?

[–]cluelesspuma 0 points1 point ago

Shitty_Camera

[–]bogus_otis 29 points30 points ago

[–]TheAtomicPlayboy 34 points35 points ago

Yet again Reddit reminds me I am not a unique snowflake

[–]FromaLand 10 points11 points ago

I usually deep scrub the hair on my head. Seems like deep scrubbing is required for most hair.

[–]Greenleaf208 1 point2 points ago

I think this means soap, you don't put soap in your hair, you use shampoo.

[–]dubloe7 7 points8 points ago

Depends how lazy I'm feeling really.

[–]LeonardNemoysHead 2 points3 points ago

As a man with a receding hairline, stop it, you don't want this.

[–]dubloe7 -1 points0 points ago

Shampoo is actually harsher on your hair than soap, but soap doesn't lather as well with hard water.

[–]zephyy 1 point2 points ago

Shampoo is fine, just don't use it everyday. 2-3 days is better.

[–]beager 0 points1 point ago

Never believed in this. Then I started doing it, and there was no real noticeable change in how "clean" my hair felt.

It also helped that I wasn't slathering my hair with chain grease twice a day either.

[–]LeonardNemoysHead 0 points1 point ago

And you shouldn't be using either every day.

[–]mxndrwgrdnr 4 points5 points ago

just recently started actually washing my neck with soap in the shower. highly recommended.

[–]VeeMMD 6 points7 points ago

And once again Reddit showed me that I am not even close to special.

[–]CensoredCashew 14 points15 points ago

The best thing about reddit is things, like this, that makes me feel normal as shit

[–]elohwees 3 points4 points ago

As a boob owner, I always soap up the boobs.

[–]kcrobinson 17 points18 points ago

Went to a dermatologist. Was told that this is actually the correct thing to do (almost). Soap should only be applied to pits, crotch, and feet because those are the places where bacteria can grow. Also, use a gentle cleaner on your face. Using soap anywhere else and all it's doing is drying your skin out.

[–]Ninawasacat 11 points12 points ago

Read that as "genital cleaner". I will show myself out now.

[–]LeonardNemoysHead 4 points5 points ago

I will shower myself out now.

FTFY

[–]Lizardizzle 2 points3 points ago

What if you're fairly active? Bicycling, for instance.

[–]kcrobinson 2 points3 points ago

He might have said something along the lines of "unless you worked out" or "unless you're a marathon runner." I tuned that part out since it doesn't apply to me.

[–]faceplain 1 point2 points ago

YMMV. I just don't seem to get dry skin while using soap pretty much all over.

[–]Jerky_McYellsalot 1 point2 points ago

Note: and feet. The picture implies that the feet are not washed. Confused the hell out of me when I learned that a lot of people didn't actually wash their feet.

[–]nintendoinnuendo 1 point2 points ago

Soap alone isn't actually that good of a cleaner, to be honest. It's the scrubbing action combined with the soap that really makes the difference. If you soap up but barely scrub you are doing yourself a disservice. Just a fun piece of information for the lazy people out there.

[–]im_too_literal 0 points1 point ago

Well, unless you're truly filthy, but not many people get truly filthy on a regular basis nowadays.

[–]Nashvillians 4 points5 points ago

Sandusky Logic...

[–]mretchin 9 points10 points ago

I never wash my face in the shower. Am I doing it wrong?

EDIT: I wash my face with a cleanser, not body soap, and I do it in a sink, not a shower.

[–]durkadu 5 points6 points ago

As long as you aren't getting acne I don't really see why it would matter, honestly.

[–]ryumast3r 7 points8 points ago

I get more acne if I deep scrub my face.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]drwatson 5 points6 points ago

[–]irishwhite 1 point2 points ago

I don't wash my face either.

[–]name_of_user217 1 point2 points ago

Well maybe you'd get kissed if you did :)

[–]irishwhite 1 point2 points ago

just an fyi, i did use your face scrub the other day due to this topic. :-)

[–]themightymagikarp 0 points1 point ago

Don't worry, I don't really either. I just put lots of alcohol on it when I'm out of the shower. Takes off make up and oil, and it kills germs. It doesn't dry my face out either since I tend to be oily.

[–]ObliviousDerpMaster 2 points3 points ago

Don't forget to wash behind your ears...

[–]Mangemongen 2 points3 points ago

I always wash my feet. Then again, they never stink.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

Why aren't the feet like, beyond red?

[–]onionpeco 1 point2 points ago

I soap and exfoliate my feet lol

[–]littlemonster1618 1 point2 points ago

a light blue scrub is sufficient for my feet.

[–]VelociraptorFetus 3 points4 points ago

I'm gonna just put this out there, but I don't wash my feet in the shower beyond the water getting on them bit. I simply don't need to, they never smell bad.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Depends on your occupation I guess.. I have to wear big-ass steel toes so mine will stink if I don't keep em scrubbed and dry.

[–]VelociraptorFetus 0 points1 point ago

I too wear big as steel toes. My job has me walking something like five miles in them every shift.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

You must be a more higher evolved species than the rest of us. I work in the oilfield and sweat all day, dead skin cells+humid Texas heat+avg 16 hr days+sweaty moisture+lack of air circulation=WOLFS BREATH...if left unmaintained. Or if you get water in your boots, then it's all over and hope is lost...those boots will smell. I'm a germaphobe hygiene freak and my boots and everyone's boots that I know still get a bit musty.

[–]VelociraptorFetus 0 points1 point ago

It might be that I live in a relatively cold climate :3

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Haha, yeah probably. It his HOT AS FUCK today...102F ambient. My IR gun says 115 with all the machinery exhaust, gravel and what not. Plus flame retardant coveralls on top of all that...FML!

[–]LashBack16 1 point2 points ago

I guess some peoples feet do not smell that bad.

[–]mrwadia 10 points11 points ago

If your feet smell bad, there's a 90% chance your shoes are gross. Scrubbing your feet isn't going to fix that.

[–]Lurks_And_Votes 1 point2 points ago

People always talk about foot stink but I've never once had smelly feet. I don't know what it is. I don't even know what a smelly foot smells like because I've never smelled it on other people either. Can you give me an approximation?

[–]ryumast3r 2 points3 points ago

Imagine concentrated B.O. from the armpits with a slight mixture of every nasty thing to ever touch your shoe, as well as a fart or two.

[–]Lurks_And_Votes 1 point2 points ago

Oh. Well.

[–]Vivovix 1 point2 points ago

You imagined it? How was it?! TELL US!

[–]yentlequible 0 points1 point ago

I can't believe you haven't smelled it before. One day, when you least expect it, the smell is going to punch you in the face. Only it will be when you are stuck in some place with other people for more than an hour and you can't find the source.

[–]Lurks_And_Votes 0 points1 point ago

This is how I discovered quite a few disgusting smells. The bus from Derry to Galway is a long bus indeed.

[–]snarkyaardvark 2 points3 points ago

Well, it is basically the same as elbow stink but has more of a floral vs spicy nose.

Helping people is what I do.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

the smell is not unlike poverty...or Mexico.

[–]Nimbus1337 0 points1 point ago

consider yourself lucky T_T

[–]Retanaru -1 points0 points ago

If by do not smell bad you mean smell terrible and likely have fungal issues.

[–]Sex_E_Searcher 0 points1 point ago

Foot stink comes from wearing the same pair of shoes a lot.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Worse foot stink comes from wearing the same shoes frequently, long toenails, and not SCRUBBING feet.

[–]marshmelo 0 points1 point ago

I wear the same shoes every day, do manual labor every day, and for the most part do not scrub my feet.

They're a little smelly when I get home and first take my socks off, but after they've aired off a little bit they don't stink at all.

Genetic lottery ftw.

edit for clarity: I mean I do run some soap over them with my hands, but... I mean I don't scrub them.

[–]redlinezo6 0 points1 point ago

This... When I was younger, like 8-16. Couldn't really afford more than one pair of shoes. Like, straight death foot funk.

Now that I have a sweet job, I have as many or more shoes as most girls. No more foot funk. Hell I'd eat off them bitches.

[–]savetheplanetgirl 4 points5 points ago

The last time I saw this graphic posted was nearly a year ago. I have thought about it in every single shower I've taken since that moment. Mission control, get the lower blue zone better! Red alert, center back is a white zone!

[–]SingleGirl_illa 6 points7 points ago

My great aunt calls this a PTA. Pussy tits and armpits. Interesting visual, I'll tell you that much.

[–]Isle_of_Tortuga 10 points11 points ago

Haha my mom considers a PTA bath as pits, tits, and ass.

[–]raging_asshole 0 points1 point ago

My mother used to tell me to "wash the parts that stink and show."

[–]moon_river 1 point2 points ago

actually women shouldn't super wash their nether regions unless they have the proper soap (pH!).. it's best to let the vag take care of itself. (most ladies do not know this, mess up their junk, and have issues)

[–]Neodymium 9 points10 points ago

actually you should wash the vulva with mild soap but not the vagina.

[–]moon_river -1 points0 points ago

um. the vagina, anatomically speaking, is the hole. you can wash the skin of the outer labia but leave the vulva alone. the vagina takes care of it.

[–]cyanoacrylate 3 points4 points ago

Yup, this is something more women really need to know. Also, douching is /really/ bad for you, for the same reasons, and also that it can get rid of or move around bacteria to places they're not supposed to be.

[–]SmurfLovesNuts 10 points11 points ago

Remember kids, this is why your SO complains about your stinky feet.

[–]IllBeGoingNow 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, my SO... I definitely have one of those...

[–]WooWooAllOverYou 2 points3 points ago

I dig stinky feet, so there.

[–]Ninawasacat 2 points3 points ago

Is it weird that I wash every part of my body evenly?

[–]DontEatMostMeat 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, the whole damn body would be red for me. I can't do a half-assed job when it comes to hygiene. That includes teeth brushing.

[–]nintendoinnuendo 0 points1 point ago

Ah I feel so much better now...

[–]Neodymium 1 point2 points ago

No, that's pretty normal.

[–]Teotwawki69 1 point2 points ago

Well, if by "deep scrub" you mean "fap and feely," then... yeah.

[–]TwoLegsJoe 1 point2 points ago

To be fair, this could also be labeled "Source of odors on body" and it would be just as accurate...

[–]jessicatron 1 point2 points ago

Guys... how are you not washing your gross feet? Come on!

[–]DangerToDangers 1 point2 points ago

Am I the only one who scrubs the shit out of his whole body except their face? I use a cleaning/exfoliating gel for that.

It also shocks me when people use their hands to scrub and not a loofah.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Nope, I'm with you. I scrub my whole carcass with great vengeance, and fuuuuriois anger...besides my face.

[–]SenTedStevens 1 point2 points ago

Armpits, asshole, crotch and teeth. Those are the important places to clean. Which was so succinctly described by George Carlin.

[–]silent_p 1 point2 points ago

That's pretty close, except I tend to give my feet a good scrub, too.

[–]Vee_Vee 1 point2 points ago

wash your feet you nasty fuck

[–]LORDJEW_VAN_CUNTFUCK 1 point2 points ago

Who the fuck "deep scrubs" their genitals?

[–]ryumast3r 3 points4 points ago

fapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfap

[–]JimmyJamesincorp 0 points1 point ago

Who doesn't?

[–]LORDJEW_VAN_CUNTFUCK 0 points1 point ago

Just me, apparently.

[–]Skitrel 3 points4 points ago

Why is this funny?

[–]mosqua 0 points1 point ago

Nads, pit, pit, repeat.

[–]imbored53 0 points1 point ago

I think that middle one is more of a rub than a scrub...

[–]New-ZealEnt 0 points1 point ago

Nothing could have described my typical shower experience better

[–]asimovfan1 0 points1 point ago

Not me brutha. I scrub the whole shootin' match.

[–]in_the_woods 0 points1 point ago

Dirty legged redditors. again.

[–]heidgerken 0 points1 point ago

Remember the 3 sea shells are not just for taking a dump.

[–]digitalpencil 0 points1 point ago

I don't think i've ever washed my face unless it was actually dirty. You'd never know, i just figure the shampoo sort of passes over it and presto, job's done. I shower daily but never scrub my face, seems unnecessary really, maybe just me.

[–]Eldin89 0 points1 point ago

very true sir.

[–]b0w3n 0 points1 point ago

You only really need to use soap to get off filth, like your areas outlined. I'd probably put my hands there too because of how much you touch. The rest can get by with occasional soaping as necessary.

For the most part you're covered in clothes all day until you shower, so, how dirty do you think you really are outside of the sweaty areas?

[–]sargENT_shart 0 points1 point ago

I don't know about you guys, but I get the lather goin just underneath my chest, on top of my gut, so that get's a pretty vigorous scrub I'd say. (I like bubbles.)

[–]Kiwispam84 0 points1 point ago

Once OP hits puberty, he/she will realize that your pits and crotch don't smell so great if you don't wash them regularly.... I hope.

[–]theflyingdog 0 points1 point ago

so he doesnt wash his feet at all, not even get them wet?

[–]rubaiyat1983 0 points1 point ago

no washing at all for feet? that's a serious scrub section for me.

[–]Tiger_Bot_Hesh 0 points1 point ago

Super old ass copypasta logic

[–]Klondeikbar 0 points1 point ago

I think you've just confused "scrubbing" with "masturbating."

[–]DaMountainDwarf 0 points1 point ago

That's disgusting. Scrub all parts of your body you sick person.

[–]markesh 0 points1 point ago

I totally do this on instinct.

[–]barbados-slim 0 points1 point ago

should i wash my butt?

[–]Rocketdug 0 points1 point ago

I deep scrub my feet and ass too.

[–]nabeel_co -1 points0 points ago

Ugh. Gross. Wash your entire body.

[–]milleribsen -1 points0 points ago

And this is why guys have rough heels.

Attention guys: you have rough heels. Please use a bit of moisturizer on them regularly.

[–]Ragnalypse 9 points10 points ago

rough heels > girly heels. If I ran on moisturized heels, I'd be off my feet from blisters.

[–]ryumast3r 5 points6 points ago

Same logic with hammers and calloused hands.

[–]soldierofwellthearmy 1 point2 points ago

Well, no.

[–]EddieMoney93 -1 points0 points ago

Women must have very different washing priorities than men...

[–]gH0o5T -2 points-1 points ago

YOUR Shower logic, not ours.

[–]naughtyloaf[S] 0 points1 point ago

I didn't specify whose shower logic it was.
