Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Sorry, your money is not enough.

[–]gloon 153 points154 points ago

It's only £3million. I'm buying two.

[–]Barimbino 68 points69 points ago

Someone needs to take your money

[–]imiiiiik 43 points44 points ago

I had a coupon for them somewhere...

[–]angrymole 4 points5 points ago

Coupon Wars.

[–]CitizenPremier 5 points6 points ago

I got that yacht for 56 cents!

[–]dilinnout 11 points12 points ago

[–]Funktapus 29 points30 points ago

Bull shit that thing is only 3m. It is a piece of concept art, they won't know how much it costs until they make one... IF they make one.

[–]Big-Baby-Jesus 1 point2 points ago

There is no way in hell anyone could build that for £3M/$4.7M/€3.7M. Here's a link to a standard luxury yacht for sale. Like the rendering, it's designed for 12 passengers. This one is 18 years old, but refurbished 5 years ago. The price tag is $7M/€5.5M. There's also the small fact that the island boat won't fit into any marina berths.

[–]marnargulus 1 point2 points ago

The actual production costs are probably only 1 million or less, the markup on huge luxury items is pretty large. How many full time boat builders does a million dollars get you? 10-15?

And you don't dock an island.

[–]yesukai 1 point2 points ago

But the link specifically says it's supposed to be a cheaper alternative to a yacht. I imagine disregarding the size restrictions for an easily mobile boat reduces the cost significantly.

[–]A_Wild_Missingno 2 points3 points ago

That's exactly how much I was going to predict this cost. Boats are expensive as celebrity titties. Any sort of livable area on and or around water and you can only afford if it you sell crack (like Tim Allen).

[–]snackies 0 points1 point ago

hmmm thats only like ~25 mortgages... I think I can do this...

[–]poteaser 0 points1 point ago

Why don't they show pictures of the bridge? Is it even powered?

[–]Captain_Sparty 60 points61 points ago

[–]CurbYourAtheism 4 points5 points ago

Whoa whoa whoa...there's a McNulty .gif out there? Shhhheeeeeiiiiiit.

[–]Captain_Sparty 16 points17 points ago

[–]nthgthdgdcrtdtrk 2 points3 points ago

they might still take it though since you demanded so nicely.

[–]whychromosome 6 points7 points ago

I never knew what to say to these overused 'take my money' meme but looking at this I knew, I knew exactly what needed to be said and surely, I thought, nobody has said this yet.

But, thank you thecynthesizer.

[–]thecynthesizer 1 point2 points ago

I've been working on it for a while myself! Edit: typo

[–]Iamthefriend 1 point2 points ago

came here to to say this. I did love for them to take my money, but I has not enough money to be taken :(...I need to up my gold-digging skills.

[–]Where_Do_I_Fit_In 0 points1 point ago

but your soul.

[–]winnar72 73 points74 points ago

[–]Milpooool 49 points50 points ago

Seriously, does anyone actually talk about body building on that site?

[–]yur_mom 2 points3 points ago

The place is like an exclusive 4chan for juice monkeys, but I have been linking to some interesting threads on the site.

[–]supahappyfuntime 36 points37 points ago

Welcome to the world of the plastic beach.

[–]rooftoptile 6 points7 points ago

Beh beh behhhhhh neh.

[–]EdwardDillinger 11 points12 points ago

LOL, I love people in the forums immediately add this to their zombie preparedness list.

Oh and here's your zombie news for today;

[–]oed706 2 points3 points ago

Not again!

[–]OmniaII 3 points4 points ago

A bit better laid out here, but you were first, give him the karma, I don't want it anyway ;)

[–]boshie 0 points1 point ago

Catchy song, random roast chicken and watching the boat you are already on via TV. I like this video alot.

[–]too_many_secrets 1 point2 points ago

So, how would that hold up in nice large waves? Like in a good storm? Hmmmm

[–]1gnominious 20 points21 points ago

Sir, that's only some pocket lint and half a stick of gum.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

No Pool?

[–]Rhode_Islan-derp 37 points38 points ago

Floating Island Boat? Don't all boats float? What good would it be if it was a sinking island boat?

[–]somecleverusername62 34 points35 points ago

a submarine.

[–]Rhode_Islan-derp 12 points13 points ago

even a submarine floats...if it didn't it would just be a shipwreck.

[–]charlieXsheen 12 points13 points ago

It would be a dystopian underwater laboratory. Bonus!

[–]Rhode_Islan-derp 2 points3 points ago

it would be awesome!

[–]TesticleToe 1 point2 points ago

Best comment I've read all day. I can't articulate why. It's just so good.

Here...

[–]beefybear 5 points6 points ago

As it's a floating boat island, I'd be worried about hitting something and sinking, or getting caught in a horrific accident.

Stationary private island for me please.

[–]joemorf 2 points3 points ago

[–]science_diction 0 points1 point ago

There's an island in Lake Saint Clair called Snake Island they've been trying to sell for a while. It's just a square patch of land in a marsh surrounded by a sea wall that used to have a single house on it. It was used to slip booze through a secret trap door onto a rowboat during Prohibition. Since that time, it's just sat there and people won't buy it becuase it costs too much to build a house on it and wintertime is rough if you get frozen in. But, it's yours if the price is right!

[–]lojko12789 7 points8 points ago

the new ultimate zombie fortress

[–]EasilyRemember 18 points19 points ago

Alright guys here's the deal. We get 16 people to commit for 25+ years. At $3,000,000, divided by 16 people over 25 years, you're looking at about $20 per person per night. Throw in fuel, insurance, maintenance, food, etc. and let's assume it goes up to $50 per person per night. Pretty fucking reasonable if you ask me... Hell, we could moore it near shore and go in on a decent motorboat, live there while paying off the loan for a couple decades as we work 40 hour weeks with reasonable pay. The earnings we'd make would exceed the expenses, meaning we could just live on this thing for the rest of our lives, and once we've paid off the loans and set aside a reasonable amount for future expenses (or maybe set up some kind of trust in advance) we could all retire within 25-30 years, live in luxury, traveling the world on our own private island. The only other issue would be maintaing a WiFi signal...

[–]geareddev 6 points7 points ago

If it's a loan you're going to be paying probably 6 million after interest (and that's british pounds according to the original link, not dollars, so about $9 million USD for the loan). Insuring such an expensive boat (with full coverage since it's a loan) is going to cost a lot. The boat claims to be powered from wind and solar, so I'm not sure what it would run up in fuel if anything, but maintenance on such a fancy boat would probably cost a lot more for something so unconventional.

[–]deepwaterhippy 2 points3 points ago

To properly upkeep a large vessel you should figure on spending 10% of its net worth yearly. Note this is a figure for Upkeep alone, doesn't count towards engine failure, system upgrades, ect.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

The only other issue would be maintaing a WiFi signal...

D E A L - B R E A K E R

[–]themitch22 1 point2 points ago

Sounds good, like a boat island commune? I still can afford $20-50 a day. And it better be 16 people I really can live with. It doesn't look big enough to comfortably hold 16 people with privacy. It sure would be awesome to tell girls I meet that I live on a $6million yacht

[–]awox 0 points1 point ago

Let me guess, you will take all the women as your wives?

[–]Craptain 0 points1 point ago

It's not $3million, it's £3million.

Why spend 300M when you can spend 500M to buy one of the Hawaiian Islands: http://www.latimes.com/business/realestate/la-fi-ellison-buying-lanai-20120622,0,3027419.story

[–]gamedude999 15 points16 points ago

Because it's not a floating boat island, it's a regular pineapple growing island.

[–]geareddev 7 points8 points ago

If I were that guy, I'd find any way I could to get those 3100 people off my island.

Suddenly this is a Scooby Doo episode.

[–]MrTuddles 1 point2 points ago

Why pay 300 million when you could just print the boat out?

[–]Apostolate 10 points11 points ago

Fuck this island. I would buy a shitty old barge, cover it in sand, affix some potted palms trees to it and hand a hammock.

I just saved ... 5 million dollars? How much is a barge?

[–]Blazingcrono 19 points20 points ago

TIL you can actually buy a barge.

[–]LeCoeur 76 points77 points ago

How did you think people came to possess barges, if not through purchase? Did you think that people gave up their normal lives to set out and live among the barges in the wild, hoping to gain their trust over the course of years and finally be selected by their pack leader to be paired with a young fledgling barge of their very own?

[–]ecce_apostate 22 points23 points ago

I wish I could say yes to this. I wish I was the Jane Goodall of barges..

[–]sharkeyzoic 19 points20 points ago

They call him .... The Barge Whisperer.

[–]fraudster 1 point2 points ago

hey! Sharkeyzoic, you can't just barge in here!

[–]platipress 6 points7 points ago

They paid the iron price.

[–]RouseHouse1013 3 points4 points ago

What is dead may never die.

[–]darkscout 3 points4 points ago

If it exists you can get it surplus or new. Military ships, helicopters, cranes,

They also have tugs for sale too: http://www.maritimesales.com/Tugs%20for%20Sale.htm

[–]markpitts 1 point2 points ago

This seems like a reasonable entry level barge for only $750k. I just have to get it Vinalhaven.

[–]POULTRY_PLACENTA 1 point2 points ago

PRICE DEDUCTED TO $13,000,000!

[–]sellyourcomputer 10 points11 points ago

REDUCED

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Apostolate 1 point2 points ago

I can ebay those off quick.

[–]marsneedstowels 1 point2 points ago

Here are some barges in euro prices. I guess the budget conscious world weary soul could get away with a $200k to $300k floating wonderworld.

[–]alahos 0 points1 point ago

I'm building one right now with all my junk.

[–]johnny_ringo 5 points6 points ago

thats a nice rendering. as always with nice renderings, the 'details' are sketchy (autonomous power system?)... IF ever built 1) it would be a disaster in bad weather, 2) would cost over £10million, 3) it will never match the renderings.

[–]cralledode 27 points28 points ago

this thing would be fucked in any reasonably-sized storm

[–]Politus 5 points6 points ago

Right? I went sailing recently and I'm dreading what would happen when a stiff breeze blows by that fucker.

[–]ProfCrastinator 17 points18 points ago

Oh? You know the dimensions and other specifications?

Cool.

[–]too_many_secrets 16 points17 points ago

Have you looked at a lot of seaworthy boats and ships?

[–]SPACE_LAWYER 9 points10 points ago

they dont look like that picture

[–]foxnesn 1 point2 points ago

Upvote for Sneakers.

[–]The_Schwenk 9 points10 points ago

No because it's a goddamn piece of plastic thats flat and has a deck thats maybe 2 feet above the water, plus being wide and oddly shaped. The thing isn't going to cut through waves like a normal boat would, don't ya think?

[–]Sabird1 9 points10 points ago

I doubt this thing is going to be traveling across oceans. Some billionaire is probably going to take it out off the coast of some tropical paradise island and use it for a few days. Then he will probably bring it back to shore.

This thing isn't used for travel. It is meant for leisurely floating about on a fucking island that also happens to be able to slowly bring you back to dry land.

[–]OmniaII 6 points7 points ago

You put it on your private lake...

no pirates

[–]Sabird1 4 points5 points ago

How about you put your private floating island boat on your private lake on your own private island?

[–]Fishwelder 15 points16 points ago

[–]two_nude_dudes 2 points3 points ago

Haha that is so excellent and no one else will see it

[–]Fishwelder 1 point2 points ago

Not my creation. It just seemed an appropriate response.

[–]Imorine 2 points3 points ago

[–]dubman42 2 points3 points ago

No, but I have a buddy who knows everything about boats.

[–]Forbizzle 1 point2 points ago

You don't need dimensions to know that thing is fucked out in the open. It probably couldn't even handle the chop of a great lake, let alone the ocean.

[–]ryandoesthings 11 points12 points ago

welcome to the world of the plastic beach

[–]jon0448 2 points3 points ago

[–]science_diction 2 points3 points ago

As a person who grew up on the Great Lakes and has known people who live on their boat:

1) Houseboats of any kind have a much higher chance of causing carbon monoxide death.

2) Notice how flat the water is. It's never that flat unless you are on a pond with no boat traffic on a windless day.

3) It's not hydrodynamic whatsoever. This is the result of an architect making a boat. It will never get up on plane and plow through water like a bulldozer. That's going to cost a pretty penny not to mention probably flood the front of it. This is aside from the fact it won't be able to get out of the way of frieghters and other boats when it's floating around and doesn't have a traditional hull design so who knows if pods or bow thrusters will work on it.

4) This thing will drive slower than a sailboat. Hope you have a weekend and a half free to take it anywhere.

5) The swim platform is attached. There's no hoist of any kind nor does it descend into the water. How are you going to put your dingys on it. You don't drag them behind you.

6) THE BRIDGE. WHERE IS IT?

7) THE RUNNING LIGHTS, RADAR, NAVIGATION, RADIO - WHERE ARE THEY?

8) The thing will flood the first time it's out becuase the equivalent of gunwhales are too low.

9) THE CLEETS - WHERE ARE THEY? Good luck tying this thing off anywhere! Good luck having people tie off to you! You'll never be able to put a boat - even with bumpers - along this things guitar pick shape without risking damaging both boats.

10) That jacuzzi is going to spill over onto the deck the first time out and flood everything - probably going down into the hold due to the big skylight in the center (WHICH WILL ALSO COLLECT RAIN BTW...). Have you ever seen a pool even halfway full on a cruise ship? There's a reason they don't let you use it while in rough water!

So, basically, if you want somebody to take your money go buy an old tugboat. They're 60 feet long, cheap, float, slow, and have lots of room. Put some solar panels on it. Done.

[–]bastard_thought 5 points6 points ago

This is an awful island. It's just 2 floors of potted plants.

[–]Gunski 7 points8 points ago

But think of all the places you can take those plants!

[–]bubbameister33 7 points8 points ago

Yeah, it's all about the implication.

[–]spiralshadow 2 points3 points ago

What implication, Dennis?

[–]Sloppy1sts 0 points1 point ago

6 (fucking six!) bedrooms, a kitchen, bar, jacuzzi and bbq.

[–]bapster 2 points3 points ago

I can't (and don't) believe that it would only cost 3 million pounds. Especially after looking at the interior renderings.

Still though... id sit on that.

[–]geareddev 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, no way you could get something that looks that nice for 3 mil.

That being said, there is a bunch of nice stuff out there for about a million bucks. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1999/Johnson-Motor-Yacht-2183057/Newport-Beach/CA/United-States

[–]science_diction 0 points1 point ago

Considering a 55 foot Sea Ray costs 2 million USD, there's no fucking way this would cost less than 3 million pounds.

[–]Davesnotheree 2 points3 points ago

The only thing this boat island is missing is bitches...

[–]DeltaShield 2 points3 points ago

Must ... Have ...Floating ...Island Boat !

[–]Rajio 8 points9 points ago

Renderings are cheap.

[–]wheresmychippy55 1 point2 points ago

Reminds me of Just Cause 2.

[–]Reavers_Go4HrdBrn 2 points3 points ago

Now lets make it 10x as big, attach too giant hot air balloons, some jet engines and we'll make it fly...somehow

[–]PsychoDuck 1 point2 points ago

It cannot take your money. It is a boat. It doesn't even have a wallet.

[–]sircod 1 point2 points ago

Isn't that just a fat yacht?

[–]pagsmasterflash 1 point2 points ago

Looks like a great place to ride out the zombie Apocalypse if you ask me.

[–]realrecognizereal 1 point2 points ago

[–]IAmA_Kitty_AMA 1 point2 points ago

Soooo, a weird shaped yacht with solar panels?

[–]themasecar 1 point2 points ago

Add a Neve and a collection of microphones and you'd have the greatest recording studio ever made.

[–]Jackson7 1 point2 points ago

at first it reminded me of mario cart for Gamecube

[–]yamato57 1 point2 points ago

reminds me of the movie WaterWorld. Yes we all know its bad but I think I'm the only person who likes that film. Also a awesome base for a zombie apocalypse.

[–]MeatyOchre 1 point2 points ago

(1) Dang it. You totally stole my reference, though I lost by 10 hours, so I don't feel so bad.
(2) My friends tried to have an intervention for me because I actually like Waterworld. I'm convinced those who mock the movie have not watched it, or formed their opinion before watching it. Frankly, I don't care that it cost a sugar ton of money, made relatively little, and that they sunk the first set by accident. It was a clever sci fi movie, decidedly not worse than many other movies that don't get mocked. I mean, really, Dennis Hopper as the chaotic evil leader of the Smokers... whose base of operations was the hull of the freakin' Exxon Valdez! Come on now! (3) I like the cut of your jib. If you were a girl, I'd marry you. Since you're probably a guy, you may have to just settle for a beer.

[–]scientologen 1 point2 points ago

and then hope that there are zero tsunamis, squalls, or hurricanes (or strong tropical storms).

[–]daft_rat 1 point2 points ago

who wants to pool our money together to get this?!?!?!?!?

I have about 3.50

[–]HarryBridges 1 point2 points ago

Does it come with minions in color coordinated jumpsuits?

I'm not buying it without the minions.

[–]CaptConnor 1 point2 points ago

You're lookin at at least 10-15 million U.S. there

[–]pliskie 1 point2 points ago

Nah, for only $150k you can have this sweet tugboat that's way more practical.

[–]AaronElston 1 point2 points ago

Aren't all boats kind of a floating island already?

[–]Pituquasi 1 point2 points ago

Nice try Mr. Bond. So sorry you are having a hard time finding the bad guy's lair and all you have is a pic and reddit.

[–]matesviewer 3 points4 points ago

Oh big deal, I had that same basic idea years ago.

[–]borkborkbork99 1 point2 points ago

Wow. Reminds me of this floating island I created back a few years ago. I was kind of far from a home depot, so I had to make do with what I had at hand. I had some rudimentary tools (an axe crafted from a figure skate), some rope I created from some indigenous trees and VHS tape (not gonna lie - that sucked to work with), and a few logs. Oh, and I used a port a John as a sail. You see, to get past the breaking waves, I needed a good quality sail. And I had to hurry before the autumn winds arrived. You just can't commit the crime of turning your back on time. Right, Wilson?

Shit.

Never mind. I'm thinking of Castaway. ಠ_ಠ

[–]epoxy_proxy 0 points1 point ago

All my money would probably buy me a weekend on that boat ;_;

[–]ooo_shiny 2 points3 points ago

All mine would let me take photos of it from a hired dingy.

[–]UncleTogie 4 points5 points ago

Not enough defense to anchor in international waters, needs to be modified. I like it though.

[–]SexualArtillery 0 points1 point ago

good luck maintaining that thing beyond 3 months lol

[–]Epicshark 0 points1 point ago

Probably could use it as a house, also those look like solar panels so there won't be an electrical bill and since it floats you could travel a lot.

[–]ungrateful104 0 points1 point ago

What if there is a storm? I doubt that thing would last more than five minutes in a tropical storm.

[–]ireland123 0 points1 point ago

Cool concept, stupid in reality. It'll be tough finding marinas and ports that you could dock in.

[–]Wkavan02 0 points1 point ago

There's nobody on that boat...and it's an island. A lonely island on a boat. Hmmmm... why does that seem so familiar?

[–]The_Ion_Shake 0 points1 point ago

Sadly though, all this extravagance ultimately is to get laid. You could do that on shore for far cheaper.

[–]nilum 0 points1 point ago

[–]snowpocalypse 0 points1 point ago

So, all the trouble of a boat without any of the conveniences? Sold!

[–]ilovetpb 0 points1 point ago
