Holy fuck disgusting. I hate ticks, I don't mind snakes.

[–]cyberbemon 143 points144 points ago

I'm so fucking itchy right now !!!

[–]TheRealMrsVakarian 23 points24 points ago

I immediately started itching when I saw this

[–]dropkickninja 368 points369 points ago

i still hate snakes. but i hate ticks more now.

[–]nickaggie 808 points809 points ago

I have had it with these motherfucking ticks on this motherfucking snake!

[–]P1TA 138 points139 points ago

Oh how I love that movie. Morgan Freeman was GREAT in the Bourne Identity!

[–]mykalASHE 102 points103 points ago

[–]vitamenc 90 points91 points ago

what the actual fuck how does that even happen.

[–]CanolaIsAlsoRapeseed 63 points64 points ago

Agreed. I found one single tick on my black, long-haired dog (Spitz) and immediately covered him in an entire bottle of tick shampoo. Luckily no other ones were found.

[–]kingmanic 40 points41 points ago

I think it was a mother and its pups who were strays. Someone found them and brought them to a Vet. As I recall they were adopted and are doing okay now.

[–]HotAsIce 13 points14 points ago

I like that your dog is named Spitz. My dogs name is Spritz. Well Spritzer if we're being formal.

Ohhh I fucking hate that commercial!!! The fact that it's like 10minutes long doesnt make me want to help animals at all, just want to take a chainsaw to the ears

[–]Stormedwolf 35 points36 points ago

Not to mention that the only times I've ever seen it is when I'm watching Comedy Central. I can't stand the roller coaster between funny and suicide.

[–]turbie 9 points10 points ago

That commercial destroyed my 4 year old son's innocence!

[–]TheLonelyVagabond 5 points6 points ago

I thought this in the voice of Serj Tankian

[–]rebent 32 points33 points ago

[–]scorpionbowl 66 points67 points ago

[–]Kinyin 41 points42 points ago

I have never had to actually seek out an image to counter another before. (I browse WTF fairly often.)

[–]bookwench 5 points6 points ago

I don't want to touch them now. They might have ticks.

[–]srb846 9 points10 points ago

OH MY GOD, THAT'S HIS EAR, THEY'RE IN HIS EAR!!!

[–]SoLongSidekick 35 points36 points ago

I see your sad dog and raise you one miserable dog http://imgur.com/H1EEw.

I assume that's a stray dog, any owner who let's their animal get that bad deserves to be shot.

[–]leegee 5 points6 points ago

oh wow, horrible, poor thing !

[–]myarlak 8 points9 points ago

the deer near where I work are super tame and graze near people/the road all the time, I saw one the other day that had so many ticks on its ears they no longer stood up but rather drooped over like a beagle's ears

[–]Ruecifer 7 points8 points ago

that makes me feel like crying.

[–]sasha_fierce79 11 points12 points ago

[–]om3n 8 points9 points ago

[–]AntonJokinen 277 points278 points ago

Ticks are assholes.

[–]Wondering_Wandering 142 points143 points ago

I would rather live in a word without ticks but with 1.25x as many mosquitos than a world without mosquitos.

[–]JD5 132 points133 points ago

That's an oddly specific amount, but I agree.

[–]deathbytray 148 points149 points ago

He thought about 1.24x, and decided that no, that will not do.

[–]Jumpee 39 points40 points ago

He then thought about 1.25x, and thought, "Ahhh - just right!"

[–]CalPal_The_Great 11 points12 points ago

He thought about 1.27x, and realized, "What the fuck, I just told myself 1.26x was too high!"

[–]notsurewhatiam 50 points51 points ago

He thought about 1.26x, and decided that no, that's way too much.

[–]Viscerae 48 points49 points ago

You'd be singing a different tune if you lived near a large body of still water.

[–]Wondering_Wandering 43 points44 points ago

I live near a large body of still water.

I also live near a very wooded area.

I remain confident in my decision.

[–]emtent 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, mosquitoes are definitely better. At least they don't stick around, it's just a quick in and out for them.

[–]Wondering_Wandering 4 points5 points ago

For whatever reason, i'm rethinking this now. At least ticks have the courtesy to leave a note that says "hey, now you have lyme disease." Mosquitos come and go without so much as a howd'ya do. Nine months later, surprise! You have west nile!

[–]ContractedTyler 7 points8 points ago

Put some sharks in there. They never stop moving, so therefore nonstill water!

[–]TestudoTerp 8 points9 points ago

The PR representative for malaria agrees with your statement and would even go as high as 2.25x as many mosquitos.

[–]juniSMASH 62 points63 points ago

I've seen a pic of an Ant's asshole

[–]Zoloir 14 points15 points ago

It was a tick.

[–]tater_tot 308 points309 points ago

When these tick photos come up, does anyone else have the urge to pull them all off? I definitely do...

[–]Sexy_Offender 133 points134 points ago

Yeah, like a picture of a good mature scab, ready to be harvested.

[–]Mapekus 34 points35 points ago

[–]GenericOnlineName 2 points3 points ago

That's the biggest factor in this picture that bugs me. I just really want to pick them off.

[–]brickstein 240 points241 points ago

Proper way to remove a tick: Get a pair of tweezers, grab it as close to the skin as possible, pull gently straight up, remove any remaining pieces, then use a topical disinfectant like rubbing alcohol. This may just be for humans, I've never had to do it on an animal.

The head can still transmit disease without the body. Burning it off can cause it to regurgitate some of its own fluids into the site of attachment and make infection more likely.

If you slather them in vaseline, they can survive for hours until they suffocate. And contrary to popular belief, they don't grow a new body if the head is intact, though the embedded head will continue to work normally for some time after the body is detached.

tl;dr pull that fucker out with tweezers, clean it with alcohol, see a doctor for antibiotics if you're worried or feel ill/feverish or get a bullseye-shaped rash.

Ninja edit: CDC link about this

[–]existinginacrisis 41 points42 points ago

I'm just gonna leave this here...

http://www.ticktwister.com/

Works like a charm :)

[–]Chantottie 14 points15 points ago

This video is so satisfying for me.

[–]cyborgdonkey3000 186 points187 points ago

I thought slathering them in vaseline was the sure way to get them to detach safely. Reason being that they back off the skin for air because they are suffocating, not that it suffocates and kills them.

I know whenever I slather myself in vaseline I feel like I'm not getting enough air, so I go for a run about town with my penis flopping in the wind.

[–]fatima_gruntanus 129 points130 points ago

Annnnnnnd THAT'S why I want a penis.

[–]aFlyingGuru 92 points93 points ago

Tits are a valid substitute

[–]Banditosaur 124 points125 points ago

Be a fat man and get both!

[–]stealthcopter 35 points36 points ago

or a ladyboy

[–]Sparkiran 15 points16 points ago

Pretty much gotta be a guy to begin with in either circumstance. No luck for fatima :( Unless she bought a strap-on.

[–]ContractedTyler 13 points14 points ago

If she kept it on forever can we call it a stay-on?

[–]fatima_gruntanus 2 points3 points ago

I can't get enough swing up yet. Give it a few more years.

[–]brickstein 19 points20 points ago

Fair point, the problem with that is the time in the time it takes for them to detach they're still sucking blood and potentially transferring pathogens.

As for the vaseline, I never managed to get a good run in once the suffocating feeling starts up. I can do a light jog at best.

[–]x52495 26 points27 points ago

Our vet told us to use blue dawn dish soap (on our dog). It works great!

[–]brickstein 5 points6 points ago

Oh cool, good to know.

[–]GovernmentMan 3 points4 points ago

Also kills fleas, I believe.

[–]catpflug 2 points3 points ago

I promise that this isn't a poor attempt at a witty reddit response, but in all seriousness, I've actually had better luck with Palmolive.

[–]thevdude 12 points13 points ago

they make things call "tick twister" or "tick keys" that make it much easier than tweezers and pretty much work 100% of the time.

If you don't have anything around at all, you can get a tick out with nothing at all. Just rub it's body in a circular fashion (not enough to break it's body off). The tick gets agitated (i guess, I don't know why) it backs out and you can just take it off.

[–]n34starman 5 points6 points ago

From experience on humans and house pets; tick keys work great!

However...

Where the actual fuck would you start on the snake, let alone the dog?

[–]kateesaurus 3 points4 points ago

You would have to be way more careful with a snake since removing the ticks could pull off scales which can seriously traumatize a snake since it exposes them to everything.

Edit: Forgot about olive oil, you could cover the snake in olive oil to smother the ticks but then you have a very slippery snake, haha.

[–]LogicSniper 2 points3 points ago

My dog gets ticks all the time. My method is to tie a knot in a piece of thread but leave it open, put it over the ticks body and pull it tight right where it's head enters the dog. Pull both ends of the thread and the tick pops right out, tied up tightly with the thread. About 1:50 times the head will stay in, and only with those soft-bodied deer ticks. Dog ticks come out by hand, tweezer, chop sticks... Just about anything will pull them Out, They're easy.

[–]fearlessly 21 points22 points ago

Worked on my dog, when I found a tick on her. She was less than pleased with the rubbing alcohol, but we monitored her for a day or two to see if she felt ill or whatever....she was fine after that.

My husband pulled a tick off one of his dogs with his fingers. pulled the top layer of skin off with it. Then set the tick on fire in the kitchen sink.

Sometimes I just don't even with him.

[–]brickstein 33 points34 points ago

Your husband sounds hilariously entertaining

[–]fearlessly 13 points14 points ago

Oh, he is. I'm sure his shipmates will find him equally entertaining when they're stuck with him for months at a time.

[–]the__funk 12 points13 points ago

Every time, Every goddamn time use the fire.

If you don't kill it with fire, how can you be sure it's really dead?

[–]InvisibleSolid 19 points20 points ago

I just had a tick in my neck like a month ago so I'll give some info here. I pulled out it with my fingers cause I didn't even know it was a tick; thought it was a skin tag or some shit. Anyway after I pulled it out I went to the walk-in. You're supposed to keep the tick in a plastic bag to show the doctor so they can identify the species. I just threw it in the toilet cause I was disgusted and didn't know any better. The doctor told me if you feel sick in the next 2-3 weeks after removal then to come back for medication. I didn't feel nauseous so I'm not worrying about it. But yea .. there you go you poor suckers that get a tick.

[–]ChaosChaser 4 points5 points ago

Same here. Tick on my back, between my shoulder blades, easily scratched. So I did. The "itchy scab" I though I ripped off started to walk along my fingertip, so I guess I got the head too. Given its size and removal method, it was definitely too large to be a deer tick (the Lyme disease kind).

[–]Magilla-Gorilla 8 points9 points ago

My record was 183 on me at one time, most were just crawling though.

[–]Pikabob 11 points12 points ago

STORY TIME

[–]Magilla-Gorilla 6 points7 points ago

No story really. I get shit loads of ticks every year due to my job. I'm a Beekeeper and when I'm out in a bee yard I am pretty much totally covered. Since I can't quickly whip my pants down to get a tick on my leg due to all the angry bees around I just wait till I'm finished to get them all. I picked all the ticks off and put them on some tape since killing them all would take to long, counted 183 when I was done. Even had to get the hand mirror out to make sure there was none in any nook or cranny. They really don't bother me at all anymore and I always just pull them off with my fingers, never left a head behind or had an infection.

[–]InferiousX 16 points17 points ago

I'm no expert...but I'd imagine with all of the ticks and stingy-bees some long pants might be in order

[–]spectre78 2 points3 points ago

Seriously. If I found that much tick on me at any point, I'd be going to work in a hazmat suit from that day forward.

[–]ChaosChaser 4 points5 points ago

I miss Deep Woods Off being 98% DEET. It puts an end to those kinds of shenanigans, and you become the insect angel of death.

[–]Djdooms 4 points5 points ago

A good way to get a tick out if it has sunk his head or is starting to sink. Squirt a good amount of Dawn dish soap on a cotton ball/pad, and rub the tick on the underside, like shaving against the grain. The dish soap is pretty sticky on the tick and will help ease him out, leaving him for an easy tweezer finish.

[–]SwampAss13 93 points94 points ago

I like to know the outcome of the snake.

[–]Pomegranate_Juice[S] 116 points117 points ago

Snake is not dead

[–]Mathesar 683 points684 points ago

You sure? The last time this was posted, someone provided a little more info that led me to believe that the snake survived:

Removed

The ticks

I saw the main pic on my fb feed. The follow up ones were straight after. Thought you guys might want to see it. Not sure about the snake.

"45 mins later with myself and a nurse we managed to get all these ticks of the one pythons body and face!!" Was on the last pic of all the ticks.

[–]10z20Luka 72 points73 points ago

FUCK THOSE ARE NASTY LITTLE SHITS

[–]AscentofDissent 27 points28 points ago

I love bugs of all kinds so this is rare for me, but:

KILL THEM WITH FIRE.

[–]XTlNE 78 points79 points ago

How do you not have 8297342 upvotes? That picture of all the ticks is so satisfying. I can move on to the next blue link, thank you.

[–]wtuckerCSAB 11 points12 points ago

It feels so good. So fucking refreshing.

[–]will_holmes 4 points5 points ago

What is with all of these people and their oddly specific arbitrary number choices?

[–]xSPYXEx 12 points13 points ago

I don't know what you're talking about, only 23.47% of the people here are like that.

[–]maniacus 18 points19 points ago

I want to light them on fire.

[–]AscentofDissent 4 points5 points ago

Im just hoping that liquid is alcohol. BURNNNNNN

[–]bamp 12 points13 points ago

Looked like a container of stones and pebbles. Then I clicked to enlarge and whoa!

I see a baby tick trying to get out of that thing too.

[–]AlannaRenae 10 points11 points ago

Thank you. I am a lover of snakes and too often people wrecklessly kill/injure/don't help them out of fear.

[–]yhoundeh 5 points6 points ago

Not in this picture, at least. The snake is intubated and I'm guessing under anesthesia.

[–]btirabail 4 points5 points ago

I missed the last few posts of this, but the first time I saw this a few months ago I was so horrified, it really bothered me. This comment made me feel better and she/he went on to say he turned out ok.

[–]stoffius 29 points30 points ago

Currently sitting on the toilet now clenching my butthole tight so no ticks or snakes go up my butthole. Guess i'll go later after watching some kittens and shit.

[–]CosmicEngender 12 points13 points ago

Is your toilet a hollowed-out stump in the woods?

[–]blackshawdog 5 points6 points ago

So kittens can go up your butthole?

[–]Ebeirsack 63 points64 points ago

I didn't know a tick would do that to a snake

[–]thehomie 11 points12 points ago

Fucking ticks. No boundaries.

[–]ToAllAGoodNight 86 points87 points ago

OK, this is some serious WTF.

[–]GoodGuyAnusDestroyer 68 points69 points ago

I'm all itchy now.

[–]OmNommer 32 points33 points ago

[–]a_Light_in_The_Dark 6 points7 points ago

FUCK YOU ALL.

[–]purplepicklepicker 32 points33 points ago

ticks are the worst creatures ever

[–]SonovaGunderson 43 points44 points ago

I wonder if this snake was already sickly, allowing so many to attach. Or maybe it slept in the wrong place. What would a tick attaching to your eyeball feel like?

[–]renegadeangel 33 points34 points ago

They get near the head and mouth creases. The snake is healthy to begin with. But the parasites compromise the immune system, eventually leading to death if untreated.

[–]AustinTranslation 8 points9 points ago

I think it was probably the snake moving through grass, the head always contacts the new grass ahead first, so thats where the ticks cluster.

[–]rupinjapan 15 points16 points ago

My cat gets shitloads from long grass in the summer. Nothing more satisfying than getting them off with a tick fork and putting them under a lighter, POP. Seriously, no redeeming features whatsover

[–]Fyzzle 10 points11 points ago

You could get frontline for your cat.

[–]hpliferaft 6 points7 points ago

Revolution (or even Advantage) works better these days, at least for city cats. I guess frontline might work fine for burb or country cats.

[–]thriller24 2 points3 points ago

I live in the country and frontline does not work for my cats. My vet said that frontline has not updated their formula in a very long time. We use revolution. Works perfectly.

[–]charmlessman1 13 points14 points ago

Noooo, that snake just got some tree sap on it and then got rocks and pebbles stuck to his face, right?
Right?
PLEASE!!! RIGHT?!?!

[–]Sparkvoltage 28 points29 points ago

Aaaaand I'll go ahead and light myself on fire now.

[–]Naomi_DerRabe 14 points15 points ago

Top 3 Insects to completely remove from this planet.

  1. Mosquitoes (blood-sucking type only)
  2. Bed Bugs (because fuck those little insecticide-resistant bite-loving persistent stupid little monsters!)
  3. Ticks

[–]chibucks 27 points28 points ago

yuck. reminds me of the puppies posted a couple of weeks ago...

[–]wakewolfie 6 points7 points ago

Please tell me this is photoshopped. Poor puppy.

[–]piedpilko 11 points12 points ago

Serious question, what is the point of ticks? Do they even have a helpful role in the ecosystem?

[–]Sebowski 32 points33 points ago

since when do beings have to have a point? Take humans for example...

[–]LeonHRodriguez 2 points3 points ago

food for larger insects, I suppose

[–]evolx10 2 points3 points ago

they exist.
Although they are eaten by things like browsing turkeys and other insect rummaging birds, I'm sure if they disappeared there would not be much of an impact, at least on this continent (Africa has some birds that live off of bugs on large animals). plenty of things just exist, just to exist.

exist..

[–]Shanzen 10 points11 points ago

No matter what animal it is, seeing one covered in ticks like this makes me so sad.

[–]VadersGonnaVade 15 points16 points ago

Hmm, I didn't realize ticks was plural at first and I was expecting tick vs. snake

[–]TunaThePanda 5 points6 points ago

I thought it might be a reference to THE tick... sadly and horrifically mistaken :(

[–]dmetridmetri93 9 points10 points ago

I didn't know that animals without fur/hair could get ticks. (._.)

[–]Tobarah 2 points3 points ago

Looks like a jungle carpet python.

[–]jkiz 3 points4 points ago

I been using Campho-Phenique which is like oil which will suffocate them and when they die they just loosen their grip and pull right out with tweezers...Campho-Phenique is and antiseptic so you get the fucker off and your skin has been cleaned of germs. Works every time.

Just wait until you find a tick attached inside your urethra. I suffered a slight nervous breakdown after that episode.
