I believe the globe behind the droplet of water was flipped/reversed to compensate.

I don't think this would be too awfully difficult with a high speed camera.

I don't think you would need a high speed camera, just a DSLR, macro lens and some way to accurately time the shutter.

Sure it's perfect timing, but not your average lucky shot. It's very precisely crafted in order to achieve such a perfect image. I've seen this post on Reddit a lot. As far as I can recall, the map is actually placed upside down so that the globe will look like this. They gave lots of articles about this too.

Photo was set up, the map's North-down so it would come out North-up in the droplet. It is -very- cool, though.
