Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

It is almost like beauty standards are largely subjective.

[–]Warlizard 54 points55 points ago

I would have been in heaven in the 40s.

[–]Persica 28 points29 points ago

I laughed and hope you're not black. Also ww2

[–]yuze_ 8 points9 points ago

ww2? dm;hs

[–]fingapapits 6 points7 points ago

Delanor Mussolini; Hitler Stalin

[–]GMBeats95 0 points1 point ago

Rainbow Stalin

[–]GreenEyedDemon 1 point2 points ago

Doesn't matter; have syphilis?

[–]orkid68 2 points3 points ago

Then you still are.

[–]liverleef 31 points32 points ago

I think by "pounds" they mean pounds of titties.

[–]InSorteDiaboli 5 points6 points ago

"With our new yeast formula you can literally add pounds of tit meat in no time!"

[–]TheRnegade 0 points1 point ago

Homer voice: Mmm, tit meat.

[–]synn89 5 points6 points ago

My mother was raised in the 40's and doctors told her to drink a malt every day to gain weight. She was considered too skinny.

Read an autobiography of a woman from 1910-1924 and she had to help a friend gain weight to meet the 100lb requirement to be able to join some outfit assisting with the troops in WW1.

Being underweight was an issue back then for a lot of people.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points ago

Probably because malnutrition and working hard didn't go together well.

[–]TheRnegade 0 points1 point ago

I'd prescribe a gram of weed and 2 pounds of taco bell.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Yes, the problem here is it was in the 40s. Indeed though.

[–]nanan00 0 points1 point ago

The obesity epidemic that the world sees today didn't come about until refined sugars such as HFCS came on market along with mass production foods like white bread and boxed pre cooked pasta.

[–]Neyheshi 18 points19 points ago

I love a woman with curves. I love the feel of my hand slowly following her hips. Feels amazing.

Dont get me wrong though. Every woman is beautiful in ther own way.

[–]BinderStapleTape 3 points4 points ago

Thank you, this is a good response. I don't mind that people like curvier women or whatever. Just don't bash skinny people too and make us feel bad for not being blessed or born with the curves in the right places.

[–]Neyheshi 0 points1 point ago

Of course. As I said all women are beautiful in a unique way. Even imperfections can make someone beautiful!

[–]fer_ril 20 points21 points ago

it's still not right, or better. it still hurts feelings

[–]Haven 7 points8 points ago

You are absolutely correct. It's not about whether to gain weight or lose it. It's the fact that as women, no matter what size we are, we are made to feel inadequate.

[–]orkid68 10 points11 points ago

Oh no, not feelings!

[–]ChemicalEnginerd -1 points0 points ago

[–]orkid68 15 points16 points ago

This world needs more ironized yeast.

[–]lastpagan -1 points0 points ago

No it doesn't. There's plenty of mcdonalds going round. It needs more gyms and salads.

[–]orkid68 2 points3 points ago

You, sir, give gyms and salads a bad name. They are both great things. Stop using them to make women look sickly.

[–]vagabondz 2 points3 points ago

Marketing is timeless - Here's whats wrong with you, here's what you can buy to fix it!

[–]FeetOfClay7 0 points1 point ago

Generally I agree with you, but in this case, the woman on the left looks unhealthily thin.

[–]Kkbow38 9 points10 points ago

I am 5'6 and 150 lb and a size 8 in clothes. I'm criticized EVERY DAY. people come up to me and call me blubber and says" why is there a whale on land." I have a friend who is my height and is 115 lb and everybody says how beautiful she is. Times have changed alot but I understand that nobody is ever happy with the way girls look.

[–]xafimrev 7 points8 points ago

People are assholes. That is a normal weight for your height. She is one pound away from being underweight. You're fine, haters gonna hate.

[–]redqueenswrath 0 points1 point ago

I can't upvote this enough!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

I'm 5'6'' 140 lbs and I feel overweight for my frame because I'm not stick thin. :/

[–]palpablescalpel 3 points4 points ago

Have you ever seen this website? You put in your height, weight, clothing size, shape, etc, and it will pull up pictures that women of those same specifications have submitted of themselves. It lets you see how you may look in an objective way. I put in your measurements, and all the women who popped up had beautiful bodies!

[–]Kkbow38 0 points1 point ago

WOW thank you thats an awesome website

[–]A_Marie3 2 points3 points ago

I'm the same weight but 5'2 and Ive never had people call me that! That's horrible, I mean your not obese and stuff cause I'm the same weight so I'd know. I have a boyfriend who loves my curves, being a curvy girl is a good thing !

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Are you in high school or something? Just thinking that people can't be such assholes in "real life". Also after calculating what that is in cm and weight those statements seem very weird.

[–]Kkbow38 3 points4 points ago

yes im going to be a senior next year

[–]pinkerlisa 0 points1 point ago

WTF? I'm the same size as you and people always tell me I look good. There are a lot of assholes around you.

[–]americnleprchaun 1 point2 points ago

Looks like tabloid nutritional advice hasn't gotten much better.

[–]girltano 11 points12 points ago

Wow, you managed to shame fat girls AND skinny girls in one comment. Bravo!

[–]landwalker1 -3 points-2 points ago

I'm happy men like sickly looking women now. I was able to find my wife, with the body on the right, with limited competition.

[–]b3mus3d 39 points40 points ago

Reddit hilariously misses the point on this all the time. the best response to "Society makes bigger girls feel bad about themselves" is "women shouldn't be judged solely on their appearance" or "everyone has different preferences about what's attractive".

By jumping to "no, skinny girls are ugly!" Or "dae hate big boobs?!" People are just as bad in the other direction, and yet they tend to feel kind of superior about it.

[–]MetalSpider 7 points8 points ago

The woman in the picture isn't even that big. She's curvy, but certainly not fat.

[–]Syn7axError 5 points6 points ago

Exactly. She's barely adding any weight to her stomach. It's all going to her boobs.

[–]MetalSpider 4 points5 points ago

And hips.

[–]landwalker1 0 points1 point ago

Most people consider that chubby today though. I like curves.

[–]MetalSpider 1 point2 points ago

I don't think so. She has fairly wide hips and larger breasts, but not a huge amount of obvious body fat.

[–]landwalker1 0 points1 point ago

I'm not saying she was chubby, but it is hard to tell with the high waisted swim suit. Most curvy women do have a slight belly, which is why high waisted clothing looks better on them. It accentuates the curves while hiding the little fat in the mid-section. Marilyn Monroe had a little pooch in the front as well, her clothes usually hid it well though. She also arched her back and or sucked in, in the playboy shoots to appear flatter in the belly if memory serves correctly.

Many men I have talked to consider hourglass figures overweight, at least in America.

[–]fourstates 0 points1 point ago

Oh all the time! It's not like I've scouted the less popular opinions so I can make a self-righteous claim against a whole community of people!

[–]landwalker1 0 points1 point ago

I don't think my opinion is superior. I was simply expressing my view of what I find attractive and why I'm thankful many men disagree with me. I also didn't say skinny girls are ugly. People have simply chosen to imagine my "sickly" applies to them. There are many thin women who are attractive and there are others whose rib cages are visible.

[–]BinderStapleTape 5 points6 points ago

Fuck you, we're not sickly looking, I just can't gain weight and even if I do, it's in all the wrong places. i'm not adding an extra 20 pounds on my frame if i know it's going to my hips and stomach solely. My boobs won't budge. I'd rather be proportionally (ie. a slender frame goes with smaller boobs) than be larger everywhere else and have disproportion sized boobs.

It's fine and dandy that you prefer the woman on the right, but don't judge the rest of us. Don't call us sickly looking. Don't make us feel bad for our natural body shape.

[–]Thracks -2 points-1 points ago

Slender is beautiful. :)

[–]Albub 0 points1 point ago

Slenderman is watching :)

[–]heru_ra_ha -1 points0 points ago

Curvier tummy and hips are higher on the attractiveness scale than bigger boobs, IMO. That aside, I understand what you're saying.

[–]landwalker1 -5 points-4 points ago

Calm down. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the term sickly. It was an attempt at humor that seems to have failed.

Does someones poorly thought out opinion really hurt peoples feelings this much, on the internet no less? I don't get offended when girls talk shit about short guys.

[–]BinderStapleTape 2 points3 points ago

no because any girl that did on reddit would probably be immediately downvoted by butthurt nerds.

of course, when i get butthurt, i'm just being too sensitive.

maybe you should just be more considerate of the people around you and not say things that hurt. bashing is bashing, whether you're bashing on the skinny or the chubby, the ugly or the beautiful.

[–]landwalker1 -2 points-1 points ago

And I already said it was a poor choice of words. I should have simply said skinny. I doubt I was even thinking about your body type when I typed it, seeing as I find small breasted women attractive as well, I simply find a curvy body sexier. I will refrain from describing the type of body I don't find attractive in the event it fits you.

Regardless, I'm sorry for my word choice and having offended you.

[–]BinderStapleTape 0 points1 point ago

see i don't care if you find curvy women attractive, just like i have a preference for asian men neither does that make me a racist.

it's just what you're attracted to. But when you call people who you are not attracted to hurtful names like "sickly", it's not funny, and it can be damaging to other girls' self-esteem who may not be as well endowed or have an aesthetic hourglass figure.

Just like you wouldn't go around calling women who are fat "fatties" and make derisive comments about their weight (at least i hope you don't), you shouldn't go around making derisive comments about skinny girls.

I don't go around saying "good thing most girls like those sickly pale caucasians, cause that leaves more asians for me"

[–]landwalker1 1 point2 points ago

I don't go around saying "good thing most girls like those sickly pale caucasians, cause that leaves more asians for me"

I wouldn't find that offensive. I am pale. Well right now I'm horribly sunburned, but that's mostly because I'm so pale. I don't think my paleness makes me sickly looking, so it wouldn't bother me. Some people do, and they are entitled to that opinion about me. My self-image is not tied into how everyone else views me. I'm attractive to some women, and that is good enough for me.

[–]TheRnegade -1 points0 points ago

Lucky. I can't even get me a woman on the right.

[–]FWilly 0 points1 point ago

You bastards. Look what you've done!

[–]izpants 0 points1 point ago

Oh to be able to eat cake and not feel like I am being judged by the entire Western world. Mind you, back then I may have been able to be my current size without being considered 'curvy' (or whatever adjective you choose) but I would also have been considered property of my husband, unable to open a bank account without the permission of a male relative, and I would be living in a world where racism, sexism and homophobia were still largely acceptable. I'd rather be a fatty in the current time.

[–]IamBlake 0 points1 point ago

Oh how times have changed.

[–]AloneIntheCorner 0 points1 point ago

And how would one ironize yeast?

[–]orkid68 13 points14 points ago

Presumably by adding iron.

[–]Etab 0 points1 point ago

I saw this on Facebook. Can anyone confirm this is actually real?

[–]fatfook[!] -3 points-2 points ago

More importantly how do they rid themselves of those bubonic lumps over their bodies?

[–]nanan00 -3 points-2 points ago

I don't want an emaciated or gluttonous woman, give me a healthy athletic body woman like Jamie Eason any day.
