TL;DR of that thread:

Valid point: LALALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU

Sarcasm: Answers it as if it's not.

13 hours ago and only answered 6 questions.

There were a few more under the "threshold"

[–]IAmTheBard 2 points3 points ago

The... The OP just delivered.

[–]EarlMcFisticuffs 4 points5 points ago

I'm going to save this page and carve it into metal plates so the radioactive cockroaches who inherit our world know that on this day, the OP delivered.

[–]IAmTheBard 1 point2 points ago

That comment made me feel like I stumbled into /r/fifthworldproblems a little bit.

[–]EarlMcFisticuffs 2 points3 points ago

Are we leaking? I'll reinstall my cypherfilter. That should help.

[–]IAmTheBard 2 points3 points ago

No, it won't. I know this because your yesterday is my next week.

[–]BmrbYes[S] 1 point2 points ago

I do my best, friend.

[–]IAmTheBard 2 points3 points ago

It was a horrible thread, but thanks, nonetheless.

[–]obscurethestorm 1 point2 points ago

Thanks!

[–]jerenept 1 point2 points ago

Thought that was the earlier one... which was a fake.

[–]amishprincess88 2 points3 points ago

Does anyone else see how his shoes are the same color as the carpet, and effectively his feet disappear once he's inside the door? It's a weird effect....

[–]MrMackay 1 point2 points ago

Whoa

[–]aziel2316 1 point2 points ago

Yup. Did the exact same thing, myself.

[–]iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiij 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was a former member.

[–]BmrbYes[S] 2 points3 points ago

This one wasn't

Reddit is just full of Westboro Baptist Church affiliates tonight, isn't it?

[–]SleepyAstronaut 0 points1 point ago

There was an AMA for both.

[–]NLDcerex 0 points1 point ago

This GIF is mirrored horizontally, it disturbs me.

[–]Turdmeist 0 points1 point ago

I will upvote this Gif everytime.

You little karma whore you. Still pleased...

I was actually pretty happy to see that AMA, looks like a good view into someone as part of the WBC. But reddit kind of dicked it up by downvoting the AMA and downvoting his comments just because they disagreed with him. Even if you're not interest in it, there is no way to go in the post just to downvote his comments. Granted, he didn't seem to answer that many questions and avoided the particularly pointed ones that questioned his beliefs. Would have been great if he wasn't put on the defense and didn't feel comfortable answering those type of questions.

Then there was the AMA of a guy who quit the WBC, so his answers were always to the sound of "yeah, WBC sucks and they're crazy". Answers that are all the things we agree with and that we're thinking. Not very interesting at all.

edit: I'd actually really like to hear your opposing viewpoint, I'm still curious as to why an AMA request for a member of the WBC got so high, then when one happened it was downvoted to oblivion.

Or downvote me without discussion, that's cool too.

[–]BEBHaven 1 point2 points ago

Honestly, I'm not sure what the point of the whole sordid exercise was. I read a couple of her comments, but they were just the same shit they always spout, and the redditor comments were awful. It seemed like a waste of time on all sides.

Plus, I feel like Reddit is soiled because the WBC insanity got in it.

[–]Ikarus3426 0 points1 point ago

Her is the one that was in the church and didn't quit? I'll assume yes.

Yeah, she would say the same shit they always spout. That's fine, whatever an honest answer was. My main problem was that she was only answering the things about what she believed or the stupid insulting non-questions like "Is your family inbred". She also ignored the questions that asked her to logically talk about her beliefs and her hatred or any theological discussion, which is something I've always wanted to have with a WBC member. I may not agree, but I'd love to hear some reason for their intense hate.

Sadly, the only way a WBC AMA could happen is with intense mod supervision, deleting the insult posts.

[–]BEBHaven 1 point2 points ago

Yes, this is the current member.

That's kind of my point. That's what they always do, every interview or article, whatever. It's just how they do business, and I'm not sure why anyone expected anything else from an AMA.

I really believe they're more than half troll. They get people riled up, on purpose, to cause situations they can sue people for, and for attention.

[–]SleepyAstronaut 0 points1 point ago

This was debunked in Nate's AMA. They truly believe what they say, and they use law suits mainly for protection from harassment. They don't make much money from the law suits.

[–]BEBHaven 0 points1 point ago

Damnit, I can't find that one. Did the debunking include sources, or just hearsay?

I'm not one of the serial reddit detectives, but these guys make me want to not trust anything about them.

[–]SleepyAstronaut 0 points1 point ago

Nate was the ex-member. Jael is the current. Nate said a couple of different times that the lawsuits are not a significant amount of money and more just for protection from harassment. I don't know how you'd source that, it seems more like a motive.

[–]BEBHaven 0 points1 point ago

I was thinking the settlements themselves might be public record. Ah, well.

[–]SleepyAstronaut 1 point2 points ago

Well, Nate mentioned why it was so bad. It was something like, they're brought up to believe that anyone who believes different from them "didn't have the grace of God". So in her case, if the questions were too much, it was no problem for her to think "they just don't have it" and move on.

It's not surprising, if she was knowledgeable enough to answer the questions, she probably wouldn't be a member of the church.

[–]johnnytightlips2 1 point2 points ago

That was the worst IAMA I've ever seen, and that's entirely because of the community. I'm embarrassed, it's appalling. We had a chance to try to understand the life of someone in the WBC, but instaed it was seen as a chance to yell at someone. One comment saying 'fuck you and your entire family' got 120-odd upvotes, another saying simply 'fuck you' got 40. Disgusting.

[–]Ikarus3426 1 point2 points ago

I was a little disappointed the mods didn't step in and delete those posts. I saw on mod say "Remember not to downvote OP", but that was pretty much it. Seemed like they knew he didn't have a chance so they didn't bother.

[–]DeathByFarts 0 points1 point ago

SHE !!!

[–]Ikarus3426 0 points1 point ago

Sorry, didn't notice anywhere either of them posted a gender, so I assumed what reddit has the most of.

[–]Violator99 0 points1 point ago

As much as I agree with your point, what could actually be learned from a thoughtful ama that didn't devolve in to name calling? I've seen WBC people do enough interviews to know that they just try to shoe horn their message in to answers that have little to nothing to do with the questions that are asked of them. They never do any kind of interview for the interviewers benefit. They are only there to proselytize.

[–]Ikarus3426 1 point2 points ago

You're probably right. It's just hard for me to wrap me head around the fact that they actually believe in this. Or that I can't get them to crack their facade and admit they're doing it to take people to court.
