Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

And in another 20.

I didn't ask for this.

What a transition... Holy hell.

I am sure people in China miss that Blue sky from the 90s

[–]unclear_plowerpants 4 points5 points ago

It would be nice if the shots were lined up a bit better. In the 1990 picture there is a clock tower on the right and a building with a pyramid shaped roof section on the left. Both buildings are still present in the 2010 shot. The clocktower is now near the center and illuminated and the pyramid tower has some green lights on it.

[–]im_batman_no_really 4 points5 points ago

superimposition!

it doesn't line up completely--looks like the newer photo was taken from much higher up.

[–]captainnickbeard 1 point2 points ago

I've always liked that one building that looks like a bottle opener.

[–]ChinaShopBully 1 point2 points ago

It's pretty cool. There is a glass floor in the bottom of the top crosspiece through which you can look down and out.

And they do sell bottle opener replicas in the gift shop. They're a foot high...I bought one.

[–]ChinaShopBully 0 points1 point ago

Oh, and apparently they successfully lobbied the government to force various buildings around the tower to paint their roofs in coordinated colors so that it will make a nice effect. Hearsay, but from a native that was with me.

[–]Justify_87 1 point2 points ago

I don't think this is positive progress.

Impressive

[–]chrono1465 0 points1 point ago

It will look even more extreme after the Shanghai Tower is completed in 2014.

[–]Schreber 0 points1 point ago

I think I prefer old Shanghai. Less people and well a lack of smog.

[–]Tuques 0 points1 point ago

Think we could get more of these, of different cities? Would be really cool to see.

[–]wojovox 0 points1 point ago

They're winning. I just left Hong Kong.

The forward motion of the SARs is making me want to be a permanent part.

[–]Punkrocker333 0 points1 point ago

Spot the similarities.

[–]knobrot 0 points1 point ago

Now that's progress any regime would be proud of.

[–]kommie 0 points1 point ago

They killed the green space :*(

[–]wisewizard 0 points1 point ago

You can't fight the future.

[–]cloud4197 0 points1 point ago

Kill green space.

Do business instead.

:(

[–]Chadock 2 points3 points ago

But what if people just gather together more in cities instead of being spread all over the place in order to preserve more land for natural living? Just a thought, also pushing for more green technology within the city instead of pollution?

[–][deleted] ago

[–]Justify_87 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. Sure. So what you are saying is, the opposite of business is poverty and we should sacrifice nature for business. Like "We can't live without jobs, but we can live without nature."

I'm overdoing. I know. I demand: make the cities green, it's much more healthy for the people. urbanization is not a that positive thing for nature and for people.

I think the world suffers exponentially more with every developed country or larger city evolving on our planet. So "things" gonna be much worse before "things" will "go away".

I know it is the way things (will) happen, but I don't have to like it.

[–]wanderso24 0 points1 point ago

What shocked me the most was the fact that 1990 was 20 years ago. Damn.

What are you, some kind of mathematician? "Hey guys, look at Einstein over here!"

[–]uri_76 0 points1 point ago

[–]dmsean 0 points1 point ago

That's tokyo dude. He's got no grudge against the chinese. Just the japanese...for some reason.

[–]mrcydonia 0 points1 point ago

Actually, that's New York in that shot.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points ago

The problem is most of these skyscrapers are probably empty, as a ton of them are in China. That is the problem with having a government dictate economics, there is not demand to support the supply.

[–]tomtom18 5 points6 points ago

I know you're thinking of ghost towns in China, but this is Shanghai...

[–]MakesShitUp4Fun 0 points1 point ago

Vacancy rates for commercial space in Shanghai is near 50%.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points ago

Shanghai still has huge vacancies in office buildings and residential areas.

They built it way to fast.

[–]ibcanada -1 points0 points ago

I'm most disappointed that it seems like none of the original buildings are visible.

[–]ksynix 3 points4 points ago

The picture has been taken from another point, i assume the building with the yellow circle: Shanghai

[–]layra96 -1 points0 points ago

It used to be such a nice little town.....
