A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports). "Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

Well, what are their kickstart projects? That's what's important for a decision where the money goes.

I don't give a flying buttfuck who of those two is the better person or had the worse life.

Hers is to produce a series of Youtube videos explaining how female characters are (arguably) poorly represented in gaming, his is to make a full documentary about his story so others can learn from his experiences. I feel his is constructive and hers is not - that $100k could be spent trying to get women into the gaming industry and creating female characters they're satisfied with, rather than preaching to the choir.

EDIT: I should also add the OP post was never meant to imply nobody should donate to her campaign, it's simply saying "this is why I believe he is worth donating over her".

both deserve money, what's your problem?

[–]Bap1811 5 points6 points ago

No shes doesnt, she asked for 6000 dollars which was already such a ridiculous amount for doing something SHES ALREADY DOING RIGHT NOW. Litterally nothing will change in what shes doing, shes gonna pocket that money and make a documentary thats literally gonna cost her nothing but time and high-school level analysis.

She got 150K for running the "perseverded female on the interwebz" and will give nothing back.

Do you think she deserves the money?

[–]GentianTruth[S] 2 points3 points ago

I feel I'm having to repeat myself here...but nonetheless: I'm saddened that she has earned such an insane amount of money for a project that she could easily produce with only quarter of the funds. That's not to say she doesn't deserve any of the money, but I feel his is much more deserving of such support. It's a perspective, not telling people what to do, which is why the title is "Why MY money is going to a different Kickstarter".

If the post was entitled "Why this lady's Kickstarter is stupid and you're dumb for donating", you might have a valid point.

Your 2nd + 3rd points contradict each other.

Good job.

virtually

Her videos are mostly just her ranting about pop culture. Anyone is capable of doing that, thus 'virtually nothing' in my eyes. You're welcome to disagree with that, just as you're welcome to disagree with anything I or the OP image say.

[–]JakeSteam 0 points1 point ago

As far as I know, they were regarding the role of women in gaming, no?

[–]GentianTruth[S] 0 points1 point ago

That's what her Kickstarter project is about. Her channel is about women in all pop culture. I should've been a tad more specific there.

[–]GentianTruth[S] 2 points3 points ago

My mistake. I saw the image elsewhere and didn't see the previous one. Hopefully I'm able to hold a more civil and intelligent debate than the other one.

Thanks for the repost

In the end its the backers decision where the money goes, and as much as I have a problem with that chick trying to use Kickstarter to fund her personal project that doesn't require a lot of monetary commitment, I can't stop other people from donating. I'm just not giving her my money.

[–]GentianTruth[S] 0 points1 point ago

Sure, it's definitely up to the individual. I'm not trying to stop people donating to her, but I'd like to think they'd consider what they're doing and have them acknowledge the other options.

[–]spm5276 0 points1 point ago

I agree, but there are an awful lot of things I wish people would consider their other options before acting.

[–]GentianTruth[S] 1 point2 points ago

This is one I feel is relevant to me and r/gaming, and personally I feel speaking up about this particular example might result in what I see as a positive result.
