Because the jokes are terrible, the acting is terrible and the writing is terrible. Everything about it is terrible. The fact that the language is so simplistic that it's on par with an ESL kids show speaks to this. It's great that you used it to learn English, but once you do know how to speak the language fluently you'll understand how dry and... terrible.. this show is. It literally epitomizes what is wrong with American television.

Well, the laugh track turns me off from the show quite a bit. It's over-the-top obnoxious.

After that, I don't think the show is all that bad. It's no Jersey Shore Friends, in my opinion.

I don't live in the US and I really love Two and A Half Men and I honestly thought people liked it there too. IMHO, Community started getting lame after Season 1.

It's popular here, but I honestly think it's not very good. The jokes are very repetitive, which makes the characters stale very quickly; it's definitely not the type of show you watch an entire season of in one go. Few of the characters are relatable to begin with (which is important in comedy) and the ones who are are inconsistent. It's formulaic in the worst sense, never deciding to add any extra spice to the formula aside from the original "hook" of 2 guys 1 kid.

OP is right, if this joke was on Community, I'd like it more. I still wouldn't think it's very funny, but chances are the HUGE change involved would make it funny for me. People seem to forget that when a joke makes you laugh on television, it's not just the line being said that's funny. A lot goes into making something funny, so saying this joke would have been better in the hands of a completely different show doesn't say much to me.

It made sense to dislike Two and a Half Men, so a large amount of people on Reddit talked about it negatively. This opinion became popular, and overstated, leading to now, where an entire thread is split between people loathing the show and people loathing the loathers.

tl;dr: It's a bad show, OP is right (but a dick), and Reddit.

There is. Fat Kid starts by simply sharing his day with his father, noting they had a surprise test.

Dad apprehensively replies "And," inquiring about his Son's performance on said test.

Fat kid replies "It was a surprise," childishly trying to sidestep the question while revealing that he did poorly.

It's a fast, simple bit. The funny part is most people in this thread want to assume there's no joke and end up missing the subtext. So they're unable to understand it and think it's the joke that's dumb. lol.
