When I started working at my new job 3 months ago, they promised me 40 hours a week. I'm averaging about 20.

I'd make more if I was on unemployment.

[–]cumfarts 1 point2 points ago

So get another one.

[–]Solkre 4 points5 points ago

Great, we need more people working multiple jobs that offer no benefits and shitty hours/pay. How about workers contracts that make employers honor hours and benefits they promised when they hired you?

[–]smithoski -4 points-3 points ago

How does this only have 2 upvotes?

[–]Require_More_Mineral 1 point2 points ago

I think he's siphoning them from you.

[–]Bazingabowl 4 points5 points ago

This. It sucks a lot, but it's the only thing you can do. I was on unemployment for over a year. Finally got a job but was only making 23 hour a week and far less than on unemployment. Got a second job also work a little over 20 hours a week. Still less than unemployment but at least I was working a full load.

Finally, one of the jobs came to me and asked to take me on for more hours. I went to the other job and let them know I'd have to quit unless they could do better. They wanted me more and came back with a better counter offer. Now I'm working full time at one job. Happy ending! (still can't make ends meet, the economy sucks monkey nuts)

What's cool about my situation is that I make $65k annually, most of which is disposable income (I do save, though). If I lost my job tomorrow, I could get unemployment and take a year vacation still earing about $40k on unemployment. They expect me to look for work while on unemployment, sure, but why would I try to apply for a job loading boxes or flipping burgers when that would give me a 50% pay cut over getting unemployment checks? And then at the end of it, I could just easily get another job in my industry.

Thank you for giving people a quote for anti-unemployment arguments.

[–]xteve 1 point2 points ago

Right-wing assholes don't need a quote to erode peoples' rights to unemployment insurance, welfare, you name it -- because they are right-wing assholes. The idea that trying real hard to look as if nobody wants anything for free will give the vicious bastards less ammunition is an illusion.

[–]Require_More_Mineral 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry could you clarify your views on the right for me? I don't think I understood you.

[–]xteve 0 points1 point ago

An asshole is a sphincter at the evacuation end of an animal's digestive system. But I used it to refer to individuals of low character, often displaying a pretense of high moral values while having no misgivings about making other people suffer.

[–]Require_More_Mineral 0 points1 point ago

So, substituting that in, we've got: "Right-wing sphincter at the evacuation end of an animal's digestive systems don't need a quote to erode peoples' rights to unemployment insurance, welfare, you name it -- because they are right-wing sphincter at the evacuation end of an animal's digestive systems. The idea that trying real hard to look as if nobody wants anything for free will give the vicious bastards less ammunition is an illusion."

Does that sound right?

[–]xteve 0 points1 point ago

No.

[–]SweepTheLeg4 0 points1 point ago

Just to clarify: why would anyone take whatever they could get and de-value themselves? If I lost a job making 65k, I would not want to find another job giving me a more than 15% pay cut and outside of my field. To work for any less would derail my career and, again, if my work is worth $65k, I'm not going to do menial slave labor.

[–]krazyhand 0 points1 point ago

I know that feel bro. So you wan't to be both young and rich? better have a trustfund or else haha.

[–]SMOKE_ALL_THE_TREES 4 points5 points ago

[–]osanM 1 point2 points ago

[–]space301 2 points3 points ago

I can confirm this. The hookers and blow don't pay for themselves.

[–]Require_More_Mineral 1 point2 points ago

I'll get my own paycheck! With blackjack, and hookers! Ya know what, screw the blackjack! Ah forget the whole thing.

[–]MLRSguy 1 point2 points ago

I had to get a job that was close enough for me to walk to work just to make it worth it.

I walk a mile to work everyday just so I don't spend any money on gas at all. I find the only way I can make any money is to cancel my insurance on my vehicle. In the next couple of months I'm gonna have a truck sitting in my yard that doesn't get driven, just turned on twice a week.

[–]DeweyTheDecimal 2 points3 points ago

r/frugal may be able to help.

[–]spaaaaaghetaboutit -1 points0 points ago

Anytime I get a paycheck from my minimum wage job.

FTFY

[–]Coupe63 -4 points-3 points ago

came here to say this myself...

[–]whereitsatftw 0 points1 point ago

Can someone tell me the SOuth Park Episode this is from?

[–]Sweatycocks 0 points1 point ago

Seriously.

[–]dustybizzle -1 points0 points ago

Don't worry man. Someday you'll get a raise and a promotion, and eventually you'll be making double or maybe triple what you're making now.

And you'll still have the exact same problem.

[–]Require_More_Mineral 0 points1 point ago

It won't be the exact same problem. He'll also be working more hours, probably in a more stressful position, and by the time the realization that most of his life has been wasted at the same retarded-ass company, he'll be too old to effectively compete for a competing position elsewhere.

[–]orange2o -1 points0 points ago

except what he buys with that money will be much shinier. i like shiny.

[–]Spiritjump -2 points-1 points ago

Is this a report of something from yesterday, or am I missing the joke :?
