Remember, females are oppressed in this male dominated society! (i.imgur.com)

Super unfair comparison.
[–]koshka_ 6 points7 points8 points 2 months ago
There is no way these two situations are comparable. What happened to him is terrible, but just because some girl got her project funded doesn't mean there is no oppression of females in society. The "glass ceiling", lower pay for women etc are still a reality, but that doesn't mean bad things don't happen to men.

Anybody can cherrypick two extreme examples, and use them as comparison, for example I can say, "Hey, Stalin killed a whole bunch of people, and he was an atheist, but Pastor Joe who lives down my street is a really nice guy, ergo, atheists are real dicks."
[–]Wisdom_Bro 9 points10 points11 points 2 months ago
Those are two very different situations. You really can't compare them in this context like that.
[–]MOS95B 4 points5 points6 points 2 months ago
Not enough information on the actual projects to be a legitimate comparison...

Why attack half the population to try and raise support for this man?
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago
This is a comparison of an an apple and an orange.
[–]vox_barfly 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago
False equivalence is false.
[–]windwolfone 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago
..as are minorities, so thanks for proving this. Also: 2 single examples do not reality make.
Also: straw man argument: oppression is not what womans right's groups are generally speaking of, but unfair labor practices, sexism, double standards, the right to control your own body, etc.

Manipulative comparisons are manipulative

I guess you missed the guy is black. Which is likely the root of his problem.

women are good for a couple things , making dinner , cleaning , sex , and giving us children , it should be the 50's all over again if you ask me.

Who the fuck said he was innocent? Clearly his completely free, no support required attorney couldn't prove he wasn't a rapist shit-head. Whereas she serves as a perfectly legitimate if niche critic bringing attention to matters of perspective, of which you have none.
[–]renuf 5 points6 points7 points 2 months ago
While I won't fault you on the fact that OP doesn't have perspective, false accusation of Rape and wrongful conviction are not uncommon in courts. Emotional testimonies sometimes will defeat the physical evidence and DNA testing. Additionally, Prosecutors can further push the case against an innocent person or pressure them into a no contest or guilty plea to shorten the trial.

There are multiple reasons to believe that rape cases often aren't reliant on actual guilt so much as how well the prosecutor plays the system against the defense attorney.
But yeah, OP isn't exactly valid here.
[–]Sanprofe 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago
The bias goes the other way too. It's just the nature of what is ultimately an extremely circumstantial case in nearly every single instance. Rape victims very rarely have enough hard evidence to put their aggressors behind bars unless a ton of extremely specific factors line up perfectly. They basically have to get raped right there in the PD for anything more than anecdotal evidence. Attorneys play to this fact. You have significantly more guilty walking free than innocent behind bars.
http://www.rainn.org/get-information/statistics/reporting-rates Statistics compiled from the DoJ, FBI, and the NCPA. I find it far more compelling than Mr. (Dr.? It doesn't specify) Kanin's research. The article does not describe how large Kanin's sample was, his methodology, how many of these accusations actually led to convictions OR if he is literally just accounting every rape trial which didn't end in a conviction (accusation is an extremely vague term here).
