That's pretty bad but the puss and general gore falling out of people is way more disgusting.

based on your username, I thought you of all people would have supported me! I don't know, man. I mean, maybe it's me. Maybe I'm the fucked up one. But popping a cyst versus fucking a horse - the horse kind of gets me every time. I guess I need to reevaluate my opinion on certain topics.

[–]OmnicronUnicorn 1 point2 points ago

I read that:

But clopping a cyst versus fucking a horse...

[–]OneDayBeRelevant 5 points6 points ago

Could we not take that joke and smear it across the face of the internet?

[–]OneDayBeRelevant 2 points3 points ago

No, no, you miss what I mean entirely. Taking that joke that 4chan made and forcing it into every damn joke we make is not good. We don't need to revive it, we need to let it die.

EDIT: are you guys serious? He even used the damn thing wrong...

Andrew Zimmern always says if it looks good, eat it.
money_buys_a_jetski always says if it's funny, laugh at it.

Mind you, while I find a falafel insanely appetizing, someone else could be repulsed by deep fried chickpea awesomeness. The same applies to humor.

Yeah, but in this case it is like watching some tourist dump ketchup on their their food. Sure, if it floats your boat go sailing, but some people enjoy the art, not the pretty colors... I guess I'm being to snooty...

[–]silask93 16 points17 points ago

holy fucking shit i'm glad i'm immune, i feel sorry for ya dude.

[–]JackTrueborn -1 points0 points ago

You're not immune. Nobody is immune and there is no known desensitizing method. Around 15% to 30% of people have no allergic reaction to their first exposure to urushiol, but every subsequent exposure increases sensitivity.

EDIT: "Some people may boast that they've been exposed to poison ivy many times and have never gotten the rash, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're not allergic. Sometimes the allergy doesn't emerge until you've been exposed several times, and some people develop a rash after their very first exposure." Inhalation of burning poison ivy will cause a systemic reaction. The biggest issue with poison ivy isn't just the urushiol but the combination of it with poison ivy's phenol content and the micro-abrasiveness of the leaves.

[–]beertap 17 points18 points ago

Really? When I was a kid I always played in the woods that was absolutely covered in poison ivy. I could roll in it. I was in those woods day in and day out and never even got skin irritation. My sister would get rashed to hell and back.

[–]MJ13 6 points7 points ago

I was once like that. Then around 30 I had my first allergic reaction.

[–]beertap 3 points4 points ago

Noooo, my invisible barrier may be gone now. :(

[–]rivermandan 1 point2 points ago

I'm almost 30 and I was just having a talk with friends about how I've never been hit with it... damn, now I'm going to be paranoid

[–]Vardogr_Sound 15 points16 points ago

It was not poison ivy.

[–]nontoxyc 6 points7 points ago

A while ago me and some friends decided to throw a kegger on top of a hill by some railroad tracks. There was a path that wound around the hill, but we all took a shortcut that just went steeply straight up the side. Anyway, we came upon a really thick patch of poison oak. I was steadfast that "fuck that shit, that's poison oak and I'm not going through it" but they both claimed they were "immune" to poison oak. Yeah. Immune. I think one of them made a point of rubbing some on his cheek, we were all already drunk. One of them got it pretty bad over his entire body, and the other one got it horribly badly, not quite in-the-picture-bad, but bad enough that he also spread it to his new girlfriend he slept with that night who didn't even walk through the patch.

tl;dr My friends who thought they weren't allergic to poison oak are retards.

Edit: Oops, I a word.

[–]FlailStorm 4 points5 points ago

Citation needed.

[–]FragPoppa 1 point2 points ago

Well then I must be the luckiest person alive since I've never had a single reaction to poison ivy/sumac etc. I can recall 4 events where I was exposed to the same poison ivy as someone else I was with and they all had a reaction and in all 4 events and I never showed any reaction what so ever.

I grew up with poison sumac all over my yard. My friends and I used to break a long stem off and peel off all the leaves to leave us with a good whipping stick! Each time all my friends had a reaction to it where I had none.

[–]jdm1226 1 point2 points ago

Watch the poison ivy episode of mythbusters. It says differently.

[–]davocn 3 points4 points ago

First hospital and then pick up a script for steroids... As a long time sufferer of the Ivy I have a few tips... First a WARNING.. Do not go too far and burn yourself... Hot water... It is your savior... Get in the shower and slowly turn the hot water hotter and hotter and keep dousing the infected area until you cannot stand the heat and then still wave the infected area under the stream a few more passes. Histamine causes the itch and really hot water causes the infection to "dump" histamine. You will know you triggered the response when you feel a tingling feeling. AGAIN... do not burn yourself, be reasonable... The itch will subside in all treated areas for several hours... No joke... I know tons of people that do this every time they get the Ivy. Also, anything that dries the blisters will help them heal faster. Chlorinated pool water works well if you have a private pool that no one minds you soaking in for a few hours. I used to use a cup of bleach in my bathtub but I am not sure how safe that is...

[–]karma_virus 5 points6 points ago

I was going to say "cheese grater" but your method seems more sound.

[–]eat_fish 4 points5 points ago

[–]quaddile 4 points5 points ago

well thats what happens when you bathe in it

[–]cupcakedemon 17 points18 points ago

That's a burn

[–]johnnyxhaircut 43 points44 points ago

Nope, that's how poison ivy looks when I get it. I'm extremely allergic; a windy day at the right time during the spring and I'll have it all over my body. Doctors thought I had chemical burns, some sort of hellish disease, a lot of different guesses before it was finally decided that I was just extremely allergic to that shitty little plant.

The only thing that works (I've tried oral and topical steroids to no avail) is a lot of benadryl and this cream called "Iva-rest" that has calamine lotion and some sort of anti-histamine in it.

I fucking hate poison ivy/oak/sumac.

Any grease cutting soap works well too. I use palmolive dish soap, and it works great, haven't had an outbreak in a couple years.

[–]MetalGearFlaccid 6 points7 points ago

Ever try technu? Stuff pulls the oils out, works awesome after exposure.

[–]shalafi71 15 points16 points ago

I have to be the critical dickhead here. How does the wind blow poison ivy oil on you? It's not pollen.

[–]hgeyer99 19 points20 points ago

it just does. i am the same way as this guy. I can go 5 feet from the plant and still get it

[–]Scuttlebuttz93 5 points6 points ago

I went to high school with someone who was like this. Every once in a while he had a NASTY case of it on his face.

[–]big_nutz 2 points3 points ago

It cannot spread through air, except in cases where people burn it and the oil is inhaled. If this occurs, the person is in serious trouble as it can cause problems with lungs and digestive tract. It's more likely that those who are extremely sensitive to the oil get a rash from secondary contact, thus, not actually associating actual contact with the rash.

[–]ContractedTyler 1 point2 points ago

My great uncle had this happen to him

[–]ContractedTyler 2 points3 points ago

I feel terribly for you. Is it possible to not be allergic to poison ivy? My friends and I always run through woods and stuff and only one friend gets it while we all take the same path

[–]johnnyxhaircut 15 points16 points ago

From what my doctors told me, certain people's bodies just don't react to the oil. Some people react mildly and your body tries to push all the oil out of your skin by weeping slightly and getting itchy, so you basically dig it out with your nails.

Myself and some people I've met in my life get it systemically; if I touch the plant, even during the winter, the oils get into my skin and my body freaks out, sprouting patches of pink skin that itches that eventually turns into those crazy looking bubbles. It sucks. It really fucking sucks. The first time I ever got it, it covered my body and was even on my tongue. I had it inside of my ass cheeks, on my dick, gooch, behind my knees, behind my ears. Everywhere that you wouldn't want an itchy, weeping sore.

[–]ContractedTyler 8 points9 points ago

TIL crazy shit happens.

[–]effofexx 2 points3 points ago

When it's all done and over with are you left with scars from the reaction?

[–]johnnyxhaircut 1 point2 points ago

I usually heal pretty well after any sort of injury, but the first time I had ever gotten it, I wrapped my hands up for weeks because the skin covering my fingers from the knuckles to the joint at the tip just died and fell off. I woke up for the following 3 weeks stretching my hands out as far as they would go and broke the newly formed skin so that I'd have some sort of range of motion. The webs between my fingers are still really tight and it hurts to stretch the skin.

[–]effofexx 1 point2 points ago

Wow, that's pretty intense. Thanks for replying.

[–]johnnyxhaircut 1 point2 points ago

I was hoping someone would ask a question like yours, just because volunteering that kind of information grosses some people out. I applaud your curiosity!

[–]LBORBAH 2 points3 points ago

Myself I am pretty allergic to the crap, but after several bad bouts of it caused by taking down trees with a chainsaw and cutting through 4 inch diameter Poison Ivy vines. I now shower off with tec nu if I think I have contacted the evil shit. PS the oil stays on garden tools like axes or saws ,wash it off with kerosene and ditch the rags (for the love of hell do not burn them), That said approximately 25 percent of the population is completely immune to the shit, and at the other end of the spectrum are people who only need to walk near it to get a reaction.

[–]MasonNowa 1 point2 points ago

Had to get a steroids shot because it was all over my face. I too get it, and get it bad.

[–]RunsLikeAGirl 4 points5 points ago

I can pull it out of my yard with my bare hands, and I've never had a reaction to it. I don't do that regularly, because I've read that you can develop an allergy with enough exposure, but yes, it's possible to not react to it.

[–]GDKern 2 points3 points ago

I'm the same way, one time I pulled up some poison ivy and was examining it when my mom freaked out. Nothing happened to me at all though. Same with poison sumac. When I was younger I was at a summer camp and for some reason I ripped off a whole branch of poison sumac and was playing with it and waving it around. Accidentally made one or two other kids break out in a rash but nothing ever affected me.

[–]shalafi71 1 point2 points ago

I've never had a reaction. One time on a field trip I was sitting on a stump covered in it and everyone freaked.

[–]TedW 1 point2 points ago

I'm the same way, but my mom would get terrible outbreaks from washing my clothes. Sorry mom!

[–]omgdonerkebab 1 point2 points ago

You must be INCREDIBLY allergic to poison ivy. I get a rash, but it doesn't look anything like that.

[–]Nomad9611 1 point2 points ago

Speaking of poison ivy... I once got in an argument with one of my friends who said that you won't actually get poison ivy unless the leaf is torn open. Pretty sure this is false.

[–]falafel_raptor 1 point2 points ago

Definitely not poison ivy, probably poison parsnip.

[–]WiteLite 1 point2 points ago

Funfact, you can boil the leaves and float out the oil to make poison ivy splash potions.

[–]hgeyer99 1 point2 points ago

wtf is that real? I am allergic to poison ivy.. (Meaning I can be within 10 feet of it and get it) I have had it 30+ times (I am 23) and its to the point where it doesnt itch or anything when I get it bc I am so used to it. I have NEVER had it that big or bad before though... and yes I have had it on hgeyer99 jr

[–]EdgHG 1 point2 points ago

I saw the picture on the internet 6 months ago. The person who posted that is not the person in the picture.

[–]AwkwardCuriosity 1 point2 points ago

The hell did you do... inject your self with poision ivy?

[–]dookiemasterdave 1 point2 points ago

I had a similar thing happen to me. I was doing landscaping outside of a car dealership when I was in high school. I was weed wacking a bunch of bushes in shorts (bad idea). The weed wacker wicked up a bunch of tiny rocks that made small cuts in my legs while I was working and I didn't think of anything at the time. I weed wacked sooo much poison poison ivy plants and the juices went straight into my leg. Both my legs looked like this after a week and I needed steroid cream. It was really painfull and my legs turned all scaly like a reptile. It was fun to pop the big bubbles

i don't see why this isn't safe for work.. this is a prime example for why it is unsafe to step foot outside of your cubical..

[–]Kijamon 1 point2 points ago

That looks more like giant hogweed burns than poison ivy.

The giant hogweed sap gets on your skin and makes you very susceptible to IV light, hence the burns and the pustules.

[–]ultimatomato 1 point2 points ago

If you didn't know, the roots of poison ivy are actually 10x more potent than the leaves. I've seen people come into the ER after they have been digging up weeds in their yard or making room for a garden, unbeknownst to them that even though they don't touch the leaf of a plant, the roots will literally make you want to die.

[–]Puffy_Ghost 0 points1 point ago

Ah, severe allergy. I'm glad I was never allergic, but because I was outdoors so much and I never really cared, I got it all the time. Eventually my mom got fed up when the usual treatments stopped working and just took me to the doctor to get a steroid shot in my butt cheek. I never got poison ivy again.

[–]arduz 0 points1 point ago

WOAH. WOAH WOAH WOAH.... I was not expecting that. :(

Hospital. NOW. You are going to be introduced to Silvadine. Prepare to hate life for the next two weeks are your skin grows back.

[–]brillke 0 points1 point ago

Ive never had a reaction to poison ivy. When my siblings and I were little, were would hide in the poison ivy and nobody ever found us. Hide-and-go-seek champion!

[–]summertime1217 0 points1 point ago

They should probably get that checked.

[–]embarg0 0 points1 point ago

And here I am, hoping for poison ivy porn.
