I've seen dogs do this when you hold them over water/a sink too. I'm near water, therefore my legs must begin swimming.

I took my dog into an elevator for the first time yesterday. As it started going up, he wasn't prepared for the jolt and went about halfway down to his knees. For the first three or four floors he just crept around like that with his eyes bulging out of his head, like he was under some sort of super-gravity field. Funniest elevator ride ever.
