You're just ToBIASED because you like them.

Look into graphic design and team up with a web development company.

As an IT guy I do most of my stuff in the backend and now that I have to write a nice web 2.0 splashy front end I'm at a loss since I have 0 artistic talent. There is a need for people like you, just need to find those niches.

Haha, I was actually a Communication Design major. I graduated a year ago with an admittedly weak portfolio and thankfully ended up getting a paid internship at a publishing company that turned into a full-time salaried position. There's almost no creative work involved though and I'd much rather be designing full-time. I'll definitely look into web development companies, unfortunately alot of the creative web listings I see also require you to know how html/css, and I do not.

You have a full time job and you've made a terrible mistake?

[–]jmc_automatic[S] 0 points1 point ago

Haha no, when I graduated though my prospects seemed bleak. I'm incredibly grateful to have any job.

[–]133tm4n 5 points6 points ago

You may as well apply at the Bluth company.

[–]TheAughtSpectrum 3 points4 points ago

These days, it almost doesn't matter what degree you have. You aren't getting a job either way.

As long as it wasn't through ITT tech and you live in an area that's non-industrial, you'll hopefully be good.

Fine arts major here .... Now I'm a Paramedic. Job hunt didn't go as planned. I paint as a hobby now in hopes that ill build up some work to sell one day. But hey I have a degree, irrelevant but still a degree.

Please tell my sister this. I think she plans on becoming a super rich famous artist, and from what I hear, that's not easy.

[–]PanicMoon13 1 point2 points ago

My sister graduated 2 years ago and can barely get an unpaid internship.

[–]moldy912 -1 points0 points ago

Is your sister a good artist? Mine isn't even that good. I've done better stuff in grade school and I have no interest in becoming an artist.

[–]PanicMoon13 -1 points0 points ago

She's certainly an accomplished artist. I've always liked her work. Whether it's her 5 foot painting of Abraham Lincoln or this clay apple with a face on the front where the eyes follow you.

[–]moldy912 -1 points0 points ago

My sister is creative, and she's always loved drawing, but she's blind to her slight lack of ability. I know she tries to go for a realistic fantasy look or a inspirational look, but it's really not even close to the uncanny valley. Her art is very two dimensional and disproportionate, and it's definitely not on purpose like cubism or something.

[–]PanicMoon13 -1 points0 points ago

You can't really tell her that she's a terrible artist. For all you know, she could be the next Pollock.

[–]moldy912 -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, I don't tell her she's terrible. I keep it to myself. I just wish someone else would tell her that she needs to have a backup plan if she doesn't become a super famous artist.

[–]PanicMoon13 0 points1 point ago

Introduce her to reddit. Support her decision to post one of her pieces. Sit back and see what happens.

[–]fartingdog -1 points0 points ago

Sometimes, the best way to drive someone to be great is to tell them the opposite. I've had friends who only started taking art seriously once someone harshly criticized them, and they've gone on to be monstrously successful.

[–]moldy912 -1 points0 points ago

My parents already hate when I do that, so all I will get are kicked-out-of-the-house threats and dumb crap like that.

Edit: woo hoo, downvotes for politely keeping my criticisms to myself!

In my second year of my Illustration degree...... This post is terrifying me.

[–]jskeezy84 4 points5 points ago

If you don't use a computer for your drawings you're going to have a bad time.

[–]ShuffleandTruffle -1 points0 points ago

..... oh god I don't D:

[–]jskeezy84 -1 points0 points ago

Hate to be Mr negative but how often do you, an art student who actively seeks out art for inspiration, see hand drawn illustration? I know people do it for a living and just because I don't doesn't mean shit, buuuuuuut it sure is a small market to penetrate. I've placed in every show i have entered and sold several pieces, even had more people than just my mom tell me i am good, but it doesn't matter if your style doesn't aline with your clients vision. This fact alone narrows the jobs out there. Learn Photoshop, illustrator, or what ever.

[–]ShuffleandTruffle -1 points0 points ago

I mainly mix media, I sculpt and draw together and use Photoshop and the likes to "fix them up" I am more than willing to use these things they just terrify me, and quite frankly I am rubbish when it comes to using them. I just draw and whatnot because I just love it, it eases me when I am stressed and is just something I honestly love doing. It makes me sad that it is such a small market, but when I hear about people such as yourself who manage to break the market and make money out of it it makes this crushing debt seem better.

High-five from a Journalism major. Glad I was good with computers!

[–]stevetroyer 0 points1 point ago

I got an art degree THEN a masters in teaching. Who's the dummy now?

[–]pitasoup -1 points0 points ago

Who is this Hermano character?
