i just assumed half of those bids came from hacked paypal accounts

Sold an amulet worth about 500k gold MAX for $49. A friend of mine sold a terrible bow with 600 dps for $120 something... I think this is great insight into human psychology. People are either so stupid or so desperate to "succeed", they will literally throw their money away for the slightest edge. Humans are fucked.

It is way worse than this. Just look at the whole Penn State issue to see how many people were willing to let multiple children be molested just to keep a football program from getting a bad rep. And this isn't counting the parents who allowed their children to be molested because of the benefits they received (these are likely victims who will not come forward).

You want to know what is really fucked up? There is some item out there on Diablo 3, and some parent out there in the world, that they would be willing to let their child be abused so that they can get that item.

Next time you get a good item, just think about that...

Or for a worse thought, think of how much time that whatever run just took, and during that time, how many children died of starvation who would have been willing to prostitute themselves if it meant they could have food for themselves or a younger sibling.

Just to give you a rough estimate, over 10 children die in a minute. More than 10 just starved to death in the time it took you to read this post.

The way I see it, if the average human didn't segment this knowledge away, the stress from it would overwhelm them.

Ok, time to hug a kitten til I feel better...

I sold two blue, wouldn't-have-even-sold-for-100k-gold, items for a total for $10.50. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people are...which is why this gif made me lol.

[–]Crocoduck 5 points6 points ago

Search for 1-handers with 500+ LoH and sort by damage. The fact that people are bidding on them blows my mind. Game: $60. Item that will temporarily be very good: $200+. Unreal.

[–]Leokul 2 points3 points ago

My thoughts exactly. Saw some level 36 rare wands for my Wiz that were going for a $50 buyout. Seriously? And what happens when you hit level 40? 50? Gonna drop another $50 on another wand? So stupid.

[–]brokenscope 4 points5 points ago

I made five bucks. Cashed out and went out for lunch today.

Just sold a bunch of yellows for 2.50 a pop. They weren't even very good ones.

I remember reading in some other post that $5 was the limit something could be sold for. Is that true?

Does that mean legendary stuff will be $5?

[–]RiddleofSteel 6 points7 points ago

No it's $250 max.

[–]TypingThis 0 points1 point ago

that seems like a whole lot of incentive for people to cheat :\

i was thinking if it was $5 it would be cost prohibitive for people to keep writing bots around blizz's patches, but for $250 x however many whatevers i don't see anything good coming from it.

[–]okiyama 1 point2 points ago

Fact of the matter is that botting makes money in every MMO since you can always just sell the gold. I don't expect D3 botting to be any worse than any other MMO, besides the fact that it is such a large game with so many customers that more people will be interested in botting it.

[–]LogicalWhiteKnight 1 point2 points ago

Fact of the matter is that D3 is NOT AN MMO. There is no massively multi player aspect. It is a 4 player co-op dungeon crawler.

Other than that I agree with everything you said.

[–]okiyama -2 points-1 points ago

The auction house is an MMO aspect of the game.

[–]LogicalWhiteKnight 3 points4 points ago

No more than Ebay and trade chat were MMO aspects of D2.

i see what you're saying; but i think having Blizz legitimize RMTs & provide an environment where people can feel safe buying stuff (w/o the threat that it will be taken away because they broke the ToS) would provide a much larger market for botters/exploiters to sell their misbegotten wares.

if people are forced to give their CC info to some shady black-market dealer they might think twice. Or even worse paypal (who is notorious for not siding w/ the victim). If they can buy it w/ Blizz's blessing, they'd be much more apt to fund the problem.

Honestly, I would feel much better if Blizz just made RMT solely from them. Where there's a set price, and you buy it and Blizz creates whatever u bought from digital ether just for you.

I still don't like RMT, but at least this would be discouraging botting (by creating competition they can't compete w/) instead of encouraging it.

[–]Cab000se 3 points4 points ago

I made 15 bucks then retired.

[–]wabudd1 1 point2 points ago

I don't understand how things are worth as much as they're selling for... Like, can someone tell me how much a Stone of Jordan sold for on ebay? Because I'm pretty sure they were relatively cheap.

[–]brokenscope 2 points3 points ago

They are worth what people are willing to pay for them.

[–]BobTheBird 0 points1 point ago

Some items aren't. But people list them as that because of the novelty of the real money AH right now. Stuff will slowly decrease and stabilize.

[–]LogicalWhiteKnight 0 points1 point ago

SoJ were duped. Some items in D2 sold for $250, items which were worth like 20+ SoJ.

[–]MackTen 1 point2 points ago

I'm selling midlevel legendaries that I craft for about 20 to 30k each for 3.50. I sell between four and six of them a day while I'm at work.

...I'm going to try putting one up for 200 dollars.

[–]omning 3 points4 points ago

Level 54 Barb in Hell right now. Searched for level 60 items with 6 reduced level requrements. Spent $12. Health and DPS went up by thousands and thousands. Hell will be much easier now.

[–]Monty_pylon 0 points1 point ago

I remeber there where people saying they were gonna make thier living off of this XD

[–]BackToTheFanta 0 points1 point ago

I know people who are.

[–]Era555 -1 points0 points ago

made $300 today

[–]BackToTheFanta 1 point2 points ago

Tax free !!! I know a few people doing pretty well, and I'm sure others are laughing at how much they are making.

[–]verugan 1 point2 points ago

In the FAQ they said it counts as income so idk how that translate to income taxes because I'm not an accountant.

"TAXES. You are responsible for taxes incurred when you use the Auction Houses. All auctions are deemed to occur in the United States of America and are subject to all applicable state and federal tax laws and regulations. Proceeds from auction sales may be considered income for tax purposes. You should consult with a tax specialist to determine your tax liability for these transactions."

[–]Disasstah 0 points1 point ago

The amount of money some people ask for items in this game is absurd.

[–]Hoodwink 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, but people are buying...

It can be explained by the fact that some people just don't have to struggle for cash. But, I think the folks at Blizzard may be surprised than most because I'd bet they're deliberating whether to raise the limit of the $250. (Remember they take 15% of every transaction..)

[–]syncopal -5 points-4 points ago

They don't take 15% that's paypals normal rate. Blizzard only takes 1$ if every transaction. Actually use the service, or research it before you talk it off your ass

[–]Hoodwink 3 points4 points ago

My mistake, I didn't look close enough. I hope someone can love you despite your explosive negativity.
