I've voiced that several people of this thread can fuck themselves, but have not demanded that this meme be removed, or cried to the mods because meanies on the internets hurt my fweelings. I'm voicing my opinions, you're voicing yours. I have not told anyone to stop, shut up, or to quit posting, I've only made comments about how i feel about their opinions.

Please point out the double standard that you love so much.

I'm sorry that you and your loved ones have gone through all of that.

The thing about people is that we react differently to similar situations. What happened to my friend is still really fresh and I'm emotional about it. I'm not finding every rape joke on Reddit and commenting, but I saw this one and decided to.

What a lot of Reddit doesn't realize is that we are at a point in our society where racism isn't lynch mobs in the streets, misogyny isn't women not being allowed to vote, and rape isn't a defenseless woman walking down a quiet street and pulled in to an alleyway where she is violently assaulted. What we need to fight in modern day are serious ingrained attitudes about race, gender and violence that still allow things like the criminal legal system's bias against people of color and rape apologists. This sloth image won't make someone go on a rape spree, that's obvious, but what it will do is give someone an attitude about rape that makes it in to something that they aren't capable of, because they're not a violent, murderous sex offender; when this manifests in to, say, a man raping his girlfriend in their own room, something that CAN and DOES happen every day, the victim may suffer in silence because neither of the people involved can come to terms with what has actually happened. That's the harm in this image, and rape jokes in general.

Yeah because nobody on the internet could possibly have had a different life than you. Everyone has had the same experiences everywhere.

It happened, and I have the utmost empathy for her and any other woman in any sort of situation like that. If I were to see a guy raping a woman in a dark ally I would do everything I possibly could to kill that guy right there and then.

My mom just happens to have the same sense of humor as me, dark as fuck. She doesn't laugh at rape directly, but she laughs at the situation. It makes her stronger and more capable of dealing with it.

I repeat. This is a sloth, that's all I'm seeing in this picture. It doesn't make me think of all rapes throughout the history of the world. Make light of the picture and laugh at it, because if you can't then I freaken hope nothing traumatic happens in your life as I doubt you would be able to handle it.

TL;DR- Manboobs are gross and fat people shouldn't make their kids fat.

Again, for the final time. IT'S A SLOTH. I don't go around laughing at rape when I see it in the news, but I'm capable of knowing a joke when I see one.

I suppose you've never laughed at any pedobear pictures? That's all about child rape, but the pictures are fucken funny sometimes. NOT because I find child rape funny, again, I would kill any asshole who did that, but because the picture itself can be funny while the idea it represents is horrific.

I was highlighting the difference there between rape jokes and racist jokes and other kinds of jokes, and you seemed to completely miss the difference.
9/11 jokes do not encourage terrorism, and death jokes do not encourage murder, because in the vast majority of cases, the people committing such acts don't have the kind of illusions that racists and rapists have. People that commit acts of terror and murderous acts are not otherwise normal.
Murderers are either unhinged, or put into extenuating circumstances. Terrorists have strong beliefs that set them apart from other people, and they know it.
Rapists and racists are your next door neighbors. They're your best friends. Maybe your parents, maybe your siblings, maybe your teachers or the guys at work. They believe that what they do is alright, that everyone does it. I'm not talking about violent, knife-wielding stranger rape in an alley. That's fucked up, to be certain, but that's the small minority of rapes.
I'm talking about the guy whose girlfriend says "no", but he keeps going because she's just being dumb and he's in the mood. I'm talking about the guy who sees a girl passed out at a party and, well, what she doesn't know won't hurt her, right? I'm talking about the guy that threatens to tell a secret, or a lie about a girl that will ruin her life so that she'll sleep with him. I'm talking about the boss that threatens a girl's livelihood if she won't give him what he wants. And I'm talking about the girl who climbs on top of the drunk guy, or threatens the guy, or even ties him down because women can't rape men, men always want it.

These are people that you interact with every day, and they don't realize that what they do is wrong. Studies show that between 1 in 20 and 1 in 11 men will admit to something that falls under the definition of rape as long as the word rape isn't used, and this kind of joke makes those people more comfortable. It makes them keep going.

You read this, and you think "haha, sloths aren't even threatening, this is hilarious!"
A guy that you see every day reads this and thinks "haha, I would never kill a girl after the things that I do, I couldn't possibly be a rapist."

Just so everyone is aware, this is 90+% of rape. Strangers in an alley is NOT the normal manifestation of rape, just like a burning cross in your front yard is NOT the normal manifestation of racism.
