I guess water has to be continually blessed because at one point every molecule of water was in some animal's urine.

[–]I_pee_u_chug 10 points11 points ago

Animals are created by god, that means even the piss is holy water!!

that's a brilliant TL;DR of Durkheim's sacred vs. profane.

Yes, but "holy" water is doubleplusgood holy water.

[–]C-16 0 points1 point ago

Baptism is one of those things I won't go see. Obviously I'll go to weddings and funerals, but purely religious ceremonies like baptisms, confirmations, holiday services, etc. I don't attend, even for very good friends.

I'm an atheist but I don't see anything wrong with going to a friend or family members confirmation or communion. If it really means something to them it would be rude to say no because I don't believe what you believe. Then again I am Mexican raised in Mexico which has a lot of really religious people so you get used to those ceremonies down here

[–]Ravn000[S] 1 point2 points ago

Neither do I, but this was my nephew and my brother is basically my best friend. To be fair, here in Sweden all religious ceremonies are purely traditional, except to a few old people.

They aren't religious, they just think it's a "fun thing to do".

Ah, well that's different.

And what's up with playing favorites with people? Chosen people?

[–]CprlBeefpants 1 point2 points ago

I guess the blessing of an all powerful eternal god can expire.

They taught me that any quantity of holy water into any quantity of water, will make it all holy. So, for example, if you buy 100cc of Lourdes holy water, you can use about 100 drops to take about 100 holy baths. That's what my aunt told me when she came back from Lourdes.

I was a kid and didn't ask her "what if I put a drop of holy water into the ocean".

Water baptism is entirely symbolic for most Christian denominations.

...no shit?

Upstream from the beaver dam = consecrated

Downstream from the beaver dam = constipated

I recently heard that the water was considered holy because it wouldn't "go bad", and that this was due to the containers being lined with silver.

It's not your cakeday. There is no little cake logo.

Hi, just a FYI.

The original translation of the bible has "God" and "The Lord God" as two different names. "God" (Elohim) created the heavens, the earth, and the water, etc... "The Lord God" (YHVH) created the garden of Eden, Tree of life, Tree of knowledge, Adam & Eve, etc.

My understanding (and it doesn't have to be yours) is that one or multiple Gods created the earth, and The Lord God, created discrimination for the better of his chosen people.

Keep seeking and things will become more clear and you won't have to ask questions, you will know answers.

[–]Serviceman 0 points1 point ago

It's the Father (the creator) the Spirit or Holy Ghost (the infinite God) and the Son (Christ) that make the trinity, three separate manifestations of the same God.

[–]sardonicsalmon 0 points1 point ago

We live on a fallen earth. Therefore to make holy water you have to boil the hell out of it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

No because holy water is holier than regular water because god.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Yes, that is the truth. But catholics be tripping in that regard. Jesus told Paul sol his things were holy and took back a bunch of rules.

[–]MANCREEP 0 points1 point ago

Cakeday posts are always dissapointing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

The Roman Catholics borrowed the concept of holy water from pagans.
