Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

You might need a bigger torch They make them big down there.

[–]pointmanzero 0 points1 point ago

yep, I live in south florida. I can't even go outside and grill a steak without looking like I have the measles.

Will reddit donate to my "I want to buy a bat box" fund?

[–]pirate_ 38 points39 points ago

Yeah, in imaginationfuckingland.

[–]itsmejessica 13 points14 points ago

My friends and I actually do this regularly and are by no means rich. We string some lights, lay out some blankets, get out the projector and hang up a sheet. It really is awesome. Also we live on the west coast by the beach so no bugs that the rest of you are mentioning.

[–]dubpie 34 points35 points ago

GET A HAIRCUT, HIPPY

[–]Rasalom 3 points4 points ago

Also we live in the perfect fricking climate where even ethnic cleansing by firebombing would feel spectacular.

[–]fumunda 1 point2 points ago

Can't do that shit in Norcal.

[–]StupidCats 2 points3 points ago

Bay Area here, can do this 330 days out of the year and no bugs.

[–]frnak 4 points5 points ago

Iceland here, can do this 2 days out of the year. Fuck I need to move...

[–]fumunda 4 points5 points ago

You Icelanders have it pretty good. It's really expensive to live here. Just sit back and enjoy your puffins and harkarl, take a dip in your hot springs, and date your gorgeous Icelandic women :D

[–]fumunda 0 points1 point ago

what? You're insane or have incredible cold resistance. Bay area wind chill kills. Would you happen to be East Bay?

[–]SerfNuts- 0 points1 point ago

Sure, let me try that in Florida... I'll be eaten alive by mosquitoes. Cooked by the heat and humidity. And drowned by rain and struck by lightning. But any other time of the years it would be great.

[–]WestheimerRd 50 points51 points ago

Nice try, Martha Stewart Living marketing person. Nobody is that stylish.

[–]Mr_Walter_Sobchak 26 points27 points ago

nobody wants to spend the time to create that just to have to take it down at the first sign of rain

FTFY

[–]WestheimerRd 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, I hate unrealistic styling that, for some damn reason, I still feel like I want simply because it seems so stylish. But I do love a huge bowl of stove-top popcorn!

[–]Airazz 1 point2 points ago

One could always use that stretched out canvas roof thingie, many bars over here do that in summer.

I'm talking about stuff like this, this ir even this. It can be cut into any shape and stretched between the trees. It looks quite nice too, if done properly.

[–]dan_jd 1 point2 points ago

Rain? That's a myth where I live, except when there's a freaking hurracaine.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

Nobody wants to sweat their balls off in the 90 degree, mosquito Vietnam hell that is a Texas summer.

[–]WestheimerRd 0 points1 point ago

You are 100% correct.

[–]sqazm 16 points17 points ago

Now that the weather is warm, the grass is green, the skies are clear, and the air is fresh, let's all go outside....and watch TV.

[–]andrewsmith1986 176 points177 points ago

The louisiana mosquitoes would suck you dry.

[–]u83rmensch 23 points24 points ago

I live in Arizona.

provided is a picture of what such an event would look like during summer.

[–]threetoast 2 points3 points ago

If you throw a busted open fire hydrant in there, that's what Louisiana looks like.

[–]albequirky 0 points1 point ago

Perfectly fine after 6pm

[–]u83rmensch 0 points1 point ago

well, less fire. still pretty warm, even more so once august roll around.

[–]Knope_Knope_Knope 46 points47 points ago

right? whenever is see such serene exterior parties i can only think that it has to be covered with a huge mosquito net or be overcome with the smell of DEET. These are the biggest example of false advertising.

[–]biggerx 18 points19 points ago

Not every place has mosquito. You could do that in most California backyards without the bugs.

*a letter, accidentally.

[–]canaznguitar 9 points10 points ago

How do you know when you're talking to someone from California? They'll tell you.

[–]BlazedAndConfused 4 points5 points ago

hey, screw you! Californian here, and we don't take kindly to that talk!

[–]LeCoeur 7 points8 points ago

[–]Apostolate 1 point2 points ago

The breathing at the end of that killed me.

[–]jackskidney 0 points1 point ago

That's cold blooded Carl, damn.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Sir_Vival 1 point2 points ago

Where was this though? That's important information. A few states have so many mosquitoes nothing works - Minnesota, Florida, etc.

[–]PrimeIntellect 3 points4 points ago

I'm from washington, and no bugs but and I could totally see this happening...I could also see all of that getting ruined by a random rain shower haha

[–]Knope_Knope_Knope 2 points3 points ago

OK, so apparently West coast is where i need to be.

[–]PrimeIntellect 4 points5 points ago

yeah the west coast is fucking amazing, mountains, lakes, oceans, rivers, all within 30 minutes of each other, incredible wildlife, amazing people, amazing music scene, we got it going on

[–]Whirledpeas1129 2 points3 points ago

In Colorado, mosquitoes aren't bad. You can be out all evening with no insect repellent and go in for the night with no bites. I have yet to use bug spray here. This year so far, I've "suffered" from a total of two bug bites, and we live near a creek.

Colorado = great for mosquitoes, bad for spiders

[–]CrazyPurpleBacon 2 points3 points ago

Wouldn't it be the other way around?

[–]BobbyD84 0 points1 point ago

I'm one of those lucky people that doesn't get bitten by the little bastards. Everyone around me can be slapping and swiping at them while I remain bug free and retain all of my blood.

[–]Knope_Knope_Knope 0 points1 point ago

They positively SWARM around me and avoid my boyfriend all together. Are you male by any chance?

[–]BobbyD84 0 points1 point ago

Yes I am

[–]daringescape 0 points1 point ago

gender does not play an role - Im a guy and get attacked by mosquitos.

[–]icecubesbones 0 points1 point ago

i hate you so much

[–]khamir-ubitch 12 points13 points ago

This (same for where I'm at in Texas).

The only way this would work for me is if it was a very short-term and was completely surrounded by a citronella cloud. A long-term setup would never work. I'd be constantly worried about wind, rain, bird shit, neighbor cats....etc

[–]grdlock 9 points10 points ago

The picture doesn't show the plethora of fans you'll need aimed at you to maintain a comfortable temperature either.

[–]RandomAcctforMin 9 points10 points ago

You guys gotta be fucking kidding me. It is a beautiful area that I'd love to have at my house, and all you guys do it look for the negative in it.

I guess I just like liking things.

[–]khamir-ubitch 11 points12 points ago

I actually do like the scene and would be more than happy to lounge around it. What I said was I didn't think it would work for me because it is not practical where I live.

Here's a flip: I welcome winter for driving because my car LOVES the cool dry air and feels like a beast on the flat roads where I'm from. However, most people have to deal with snow and/or ice, I would imagine I'd get similar responses if I posted this picture with a caption of: "Welcome to winter racing"

[–]sagafood 0 points1 point ago

As an Alabamian, let me add fire ants to the list. Those bastards are the bane of my existence.

[–]monstercablessuck 0 points1 point ago

As a northwest Floridian with the same fire ants, I'm thinking someone needs to figure out a way to get the mosquitos to wage war with the fire ants.

[–]SomeMetroid 6 points7 points ago

And ants would get in your popcorn.

[–]Destructogon 2 points3 points ago

And chiggers would devour your legs.

[–]MANCREEP 13 points14 points ago

And nig---wait....nvm.

[–]AscentofDissent 8 points9 points ago

...nighttime can be scary, I know.

[–]MANCREEP 1 point2 points ago

good save, dirty dave!

[–]Rasalom 1 point2 points ago

All those luminous smiles and eyes...

[–]birened 2 points3 points ago

Mosquito feeding ceremony

[–]icametodropbombs[S] 27 points28 points ago

Near the beach on the west coast, so that's not really an issue for us.

[–]Jay_Normous 16 points17 points ago

Lucky monkey. I saw this and all I could think of was the amount of bugs that will be swarming to this place

[–]PrincessDickFart 4 points5 points ago

Since I have your attention, can I ask how much a get up like this cost in total? From the projector to the pillows. I have a nice amount of money for a pet project and this looks like an absolutely awesome idea. Thanks!

[–]Scoodinfroody 21 points22 points ago

[–]bigplansisay 0 points1 point ago

One has to imagine PrincessDickFart knows that and is baiting OP.

[–]FunTimesForEverybody 1 point2 points ago

I have a fun backyard movie set-up, cheap. I got a projector off of craigslist for $100. And used a canvas dropcloth from Home Depot (It's thicker so less wind problems.) for the screen. Cost maybe $8. If I wanted to get fancy I'd sew some weights in the corners. Haven't done it yet though.

I'd say ikea, big lots, or something similar for the pillows.

I screwed eye hooks into the beams on my garage to hold the drop cloth up. I'm sure if you don't have something to hang it from you could just construct a frame out of pvc.

[–]ilikefarting 11 points12 points ago

Except it's not your setup, so it really is not an issue for you.

[–]dggeek 5 points6 points ago

Technically he never claimed it was. He has just cleverly worded his title and response such that you could infer that.

[–]AscentofDissent 1 point2 points ago

San Diego here, mosquitos would still be a huge problem. Maybe I'm too far inland.

[–]jayjjj3 1 point2 points ago

San Diego here as well (more of the Del Mar region though), and I have never seen a mosquito.

[–]Kimos 2 points3 points ago

Canada reporting in. Seems beautiful and fun and romantic and I would die from blood loss before the previews were even over.

[–]nepidae 3 points4 points ago

It is amazing where people choose to live. Is it some show of courage or something? I just don't get it.

[–]andrewsmith1986 2 points3 points ago

Fuck you, louisiana is awesome.

[–]DRUNK_CYCLIST 0 points1 point ago

I haven't seen a comment from you since the great reveal AMA. I thought you died.

[–]Le_Karma_Whore 0 points1 point ago

Anyone know what would happen if a mosquito bit your penis? Would it have the same effect? Bumps and itching? For science and all that stuff, of course.

[–]WanderEuropeAR15 1 point2 points ago

Yes.

[–]Isthatrite 0 points1 point ago

I just can't get past what to do if it rains. Do you bring all that crap inside every day? Are the items waterproof? Is the wiring actually outside on the tree for the hanging lamps?

It looks awesome, but I feel like it would get ruined really fast.

[–]muttur 106 points107 points ago

Welcome to Pinterest.

[–]chemistry_teacher 35 points36 points ago

Pinterest is not as old as this photo.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points ago

Hey - repostin' ain't easy.

Scratch that - 'tis quite easy, I dare say.

[–]Queefmonlee 4 points5 points ago

I find it funny that Reddit and Pinterest have an inverse relationship when it comes to some things. Things like decorating that appear on Pinterest months ago now appear on Reddit, and cool shit such as cats and stuff that are on the front page won't make it to Pinterest for a few weeks yet.

[–]stanfan114 0 points1 point ago

I bet the movie is Summer of '42.

[–]sophic 0 points1 point ago

you mean skymall.

[–]Emmarh23 19 points20 points ago

Obviously you've never been to England. Where the weather is shit all year round!

[–]LaSteff 5 points6 points ago

What are you talking about?? We had like a whole day and a half of sunshine last week. It was glorious. :)

[–]mareksoon 2 points3 points ago

.. but not all in a row.

[–]Emmarh23 1 point2 points ago

Yup day and a half. Bring on winter for the rest of the year!

[–]iChad17 0 points1 point ago

Clearly a man of the northern cloth. Fellow mancunian?

[–]Emmarh23 0 points1 point ago

Im a lass of the midlands. Where its hilly enough to stand and look at the floods around your feet.

[–]anklereddit 0 points1 point ago

Just don't use your hosepipes.

[–]primatesandme 4 points5 points ago

First summer in the UK! Can confirm so far.

[–]pornmonger 2 points3 points ago

Your weather must be a lot like the Pacific Northwest. Summer hasn't started yet.

[–]SavvyStereo 3 points4 points ago

Started? It's finished. We had it a couple of weeks ago. It was a brilliant, lovely time full of naivety and frolicking. Then the rains came...

[–]AlkalineDuck 0 points1 point ago

The current top post on /r/unitedkingdom pretty much sums it up.

[–]Chachoregard 7 points8 points ago

And then a freak thunderstorm comes by and ruins everything.

[–]lovelala 2 points3 points ago

you must be from Texas

[–]Chachoregard 0 points1 point ago

Yep. Had one last weekend just suddenly ruin the whole day.

[–]doobist 1 point2 points ago

Do you mean OP is a dirty liar?

[–]Komprimus 4 points5 points ago

He didn't say he took the picture.

[–]DarkIuna 1 point2 points ago

Not directly, but he said, where he lives

[–]doobist 0 points1 point ago

It was implied... or is it inferred.... one of those 2

[–]DarwinAndCo 0 points1 point ago

Thank you. I was reading through just to see who called OP out first. Could have sworn I saw it in my mother's Southern Living or Better Homes and Gardens or something.

[–]SmokeTech 6 points7 points ago

That would be cool right up until all the local chiggers showed up and started making trouble. Chiggers gonna chigg.

[–]Bonestown 12 points13 points ago

It's sad that i know this, but i'm pretty sure thats a photo from a Sky Mall catalogue

[–]panda_operated_robot 6 points7 points ago

Welcome to summer - for rich people

FTFY

[–]BagofLobsters 3 points4 points ago

Source just in case you actually need steps on hanging a sheet and setting up some chairs.

[–]harumph_941 5 points6 points ago

I had a feeling I had seen this in an online catalog once - couldn't remember if it was shitty Pottery Barn or dickhead Restoration Hardware...thank you for this

[–]ModemGhost 3 points4 points ago

I've always thought this would be fun. But apparently, judging from the comments in this thread, I'm way fucking wrong.

[–]steve_b 0 points1 point ago

I have plans to do this with my kids later this summer. However, we have a big six-man tent that's all mosquito netting under the fly - we'll set up the bean bag chairs in there, so as stay out of bug hell.

[–]uncoolcat 1 point2 points ago

Be careful if you plan on putting hot lights or a projector (which also get quite hot) under the netting, because those tents can easily melt and/or catch fire.

There was a couple in my hometown that died in a tent while camping when they fell asleep with a lantern on in their tent. The tent quickly caught fire and it melted onto them, causing them to get severe burns while suffocating. O_O

[–]steve_b 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the warning. I had no plans on putting the projector in the tent anyway, for both heat & noise reasons.

[–]Skeletor_Dali 0 points1 point ago

Did this 3 days ago at a friend of a friend's place, it was just as fun as you'd think. Worked perfectly and was a lot of fun.

[–]EvanPaintsStuff 2 points3 points ago

The very first thing I thought of when I saw this was a voice off in the distance screaming SHUT THE FUCK UUUUP

[–]binary-love 8 points9 points ago

Maybe, if you are the 1%.

[–]avatar307 2 points3 points ago

OMG the bugs, the bugs. OP doesn't live in the south.

[–]87liyamu 2 points3 points ago

That's not what summer looks like in the United Kingdom!

Looks more like this:

http://i.imgur.com/PTOE5.jpg

[–]BeatlesForSale 1 point2 points ago

I just posted that picture in here, then it said "RES ignored duplicate image" so I scrolled down and found your comment. Have an upvote fellow Brit. Our weather truly is shite.

Must re-create.

Of course mine would be showing the most explicit pornography, and those futons would be covered in undulating bodies in the throes of passion.

But still. Good start.

[–]AStrangelove 1 point2 points ago

Hey Ferb, I know what we're going to do today!

[–]ooowl 1 point2 points ago

bugs.

[–]tueStrange 0 points1 point ago

bugs everywhere

[–]Zeppelanoid 1 point2 points ago

I remember when I first saw this on reddit...

[–]cyantific35 1 point2 points ago

Look how worn out this is.

Well when the Scene Screen repairman called Daddy a chicken, Daddy through him out of the house. Now we can't get anyone to fix it.

[–]Wazowski 1 point2 points ago

Don't hang lights right next to the screen!

[–]gmikoner 1 point2 points ago

suddenly BUGS!!! BUGS FUCKING EVERYWHERE!!!!!

[–]a-dark-passenger 1 point2 points ago

All that time and no one came.

[–]fafafohi 1 point2 points ago

I remember when this was posted last year.

[–]Derek2697 1 point2 points ago

I would die of malaria if this was in my backyard.

[–]ForeverMarried 1 point2 points ago

97 degrees today.. I took a crappy 14 inch TV outside in the backyard and watched Euro 2012 while I got a tan. I love California :)

[–]uncoolcat 1 point2 points ago

For those interested, it appears that potterybarn.com sells a few (if not all) of the items for this. This image appeared on Pottery Barn's website somewhere around April 2011 (whether or not they originally created it or not I don't know). Anyway, here's where you'll find some instructions, here are the wicker lights (which appear to be unavailable), and here are the string lights used. You can probably find similar pillows, cushions, and whatnot from the same site, or overstock.com, etc.

[–]mecon 1 point2 points ago

in Pottery Barn land there are no bugs and everyone is completely satisfied watching footage of an old truck on a Saturday night!!!! It's the greatest!!!!

[–]waterdevil19 1 point2 points ago

As a PB employee, glad someone actually realized where this was from.

[–]hollow2759 1 point2 points ago

The twist is that it's noon, but the scene is darkened by the billions of mosquitoes.

[–]dc469 1 point2 points ago

I live in Texas and all I have to say is:

Fuck you man, Fuck you.

[–]bLa07 0 points1 point ago

Now I know what I want to do when I am able to afford it.

[–]Zorvius 0 points1 point ago

Bring in the rain!

[–]1nteger 0 points1 point ago

[–]Nailpolished 0 points1 point ago

Yes please we have floods in England currently.

[–]fake_madrid 0 points1 point ago

it's still late winter in holland :**(

[–]beeedeee 0 points1 point ago

We complain, here in Texas about Summer - but truth be told, we have pretty good weather from October till June. It's June - October that are oppressively hot.

[–]AlienAdvice 0 points1 point ago

Try this in Florida.

[–]Erosion010 0 points1 point ago

And then it rains.

[–]braiker 0 points1 point ago

I need to figure out how to make a screen like that.

[–]ModularToil 0 points1 point ago

There are bugs there. So many, in fact, you would balk if you knew.

[–]ireland123 0 points1 point ago

Damn you, rich people!

[–]eddiemads 0 points1 point ago

I would hate to have to clean all that shit up

[–]maguiresmovies 0 points1 point ago

I also came here to say 'bugs will feast upon your face'. They will, though.

[–]ProfessorCaptain 0 points1 point ago

Would be even better without the screen/projector/random truck picture imho.

[–]PoorlyTimedPhraseGuy 0 points1 point ago

Summer for the rich idiots that put that monstrosity up to be rained on, sure. Summer for the average person? Nope.

[–]PrincessDickFart 0 points1 point ago

Where did you find this OP? Does anyone know how much a get up like this cost in total? From the projector to the pillows. I have a nice amount of money for a pet project and this looks like an absolutely awesome idea summer barbecues.

[–]richeyrich 0 points1 point ago

I wish. It's cold and rainy in Germany :(

I never thought I'd say it, but I miss the south.

[–]Thatoneguyfromthewho 0 points1 point ago

Not in Tempe my friend, it's still 90 at night.

[–]uncoolcat 0 points1 point ago

Welcome to summer bugs

[–]MontrealBornanRaised 0 points1 point ago

Wasn't this posted a year ago with the same title? Not complaining about reposts and all that, just wondering. Would be interesting.

[–]modsherearefags 0 points1 point ago

Live oaks, you in the south. Where is the fire pit?

[–]bastardsnow 0 points1 point ago

this is from a catalog, right?

[–]ilikefarting 0 points1 point ago

Fuck I'm just thinking of my parents back yard in the country, mosquitos, deer flys, black flys. Fuck that.

[–]AVerbalAffair 0 points1 point ago

Can't do that in Phoenix either.. Unless the chairs were replaced with inflatable pools

[–]SpankytheGoldfish 0 points1 point ago

I don't appreciate this on Monday of finals week. WHY MUST YOU TEMPT ME WITH FREEDOM???!!

[–]William_Shatinher 0 points1 point ago

Flies. Flies everywhere.

[–]Skyline969 0 points1 point ago

Suddenly, insects.

[–]Arx0s 0 points1 point ago

[–]dan_jd 0 points1 point ago

Im SOOO JEALOUS. In my city we have a 45°C summer with mosquitoes.

[–]knomz 0 points1 point ago

[–]14h0urs 0 points1 point ago

Put that projector screen away and have a god damn conversation.

[–]steinman17 0 points1 point ago

too much shit to have to move inside and back out every time it rains

[–]cootzified 0 points1 point ago

Now that summer's here, I don't have to lie down inside to watch my favorite antique truck commercials.

[–]Surf314 0 points1 point ago

I hate that people live somewhere where summer means you get to go outside and not either get rained on, eaten by mosquitoes, or feel so uncomfortably hot that your strength just gets sucked out of you.

[–]Awkward-Truth 0 points1 point ago

If you do this in Australia, you are going to have a bad time.

Those seats are too low and there are too many cables criss crossing around...

[–]picklespeeonme 0 points1 point ago

I saw this one those obnoxious "Like if you want.." pictures on facebook.

[–]NewspaperPirateHat 0 points1 point ago
