I had to take anatomy for my basics to get into nursing school, and I put it off because I knew we had to dissect cats. It was awful the first day just handing out dead cats like it was no big deal. I cried the first day, I love cats way too much. :( And I was hoping they were like feral cats, but apparently, just like with the frogs you dissect in biology, they are farm raised to be killed and dissected :(

I volunteer at a spay clinic and this is what it looks. It is pretty freakin cute to see all the kitties sleeping lined up on a table on their backs. The best part is when the spay/nuetering is done they are all sleepy and you get to rub their backs until they wake up. Most vets that do cheap mass spay/nuetering need volunteers since they don't really make any money doing this since many are feral cats...so volunteer. All that sweet kitty love and they are too drugged to fight it...that sounds a little creepy, sorry!

They're strapped down for safety reasons and positioning. Doctors can find the ovaries faster when their organs are stretched out. Also these are all female cats. Male cat castration only takes about 5 minutes and no shaving is required.

Sedated. They use what we call "kitty magic" which is a sedation that is heavy enough to preform a spay or neurot without having to entobate the animal and using a breathable anesthesia. (hence why it is cheaper than a local vet). They they don't show in this picture is the amount of technicians, like myself, walking around and checking vitals on all the cats. We took "TPR" on all of the, temperature, pulse rate, and respiratory rate.those are the most important things to monitor.

I'm not saying like this. This is a facility that brings in all the kittens and cats found in neighbors to be spayed and possibly adopted out. It's cheap and a lot of people cannont afford 200$ and up at their local vet for surgery. People don't realize the a singe female cat can breed up to 12 time in one life time. Most with kittens anywhere from 2-12 a litter. Think about all the wild cats there are roaming your neighborhood. Cats also carry parasites that are fatal to humans. There is also feline leukemia and aids. Many cats that are found outside are tested. If they show up positive a lot of owner opt for euthanasia only because it's not worth the money when you know that cat won't live past 5 years. I'm just saying people show be informed about the risks of not spaying and neutering your pets. I work in a hospital with a sterile surgical room where ONE animal is under a breathable gas anesthesia a d are monitored very closely with top of the line equipment. A spay on a cat starts at 290$. At a place like this it cost 75$. Where would you go?

And let them die from prostate cancer in males and pyo in females? Male dogs that are unaltered have a higher chance of prostate cancer. Their bodies are not meant to handle testosterone like humans. Their prostate swells up and affects their bowel movements. Females develop puss in their uterus which gets bigger and bigger until it burst and the dog dies from internal bleeding. Even of you notice your doug is sick and take it to the et, many people complain about spending $900 bucks and up for surgery. Which could of all been prevented if they just altered their pet. Breeding a dog have a higher risk of getting pyo. I see it everyday. Some family loses a family pet because they didn't want to alter their pet.

I know in high school I dissected a cat for my human anatomy class (KItty's insides are fairly close to humans, oddly enough). All the blood was drained and the veins were pumped with laytex or something one red (arterial) and one blue (venous)......maybe this is what they are being prepared for and they are all in fact already dead.
