He was 10ish when I adopted him last year. He has no teeth, he's missing a lot of fur, and he's a total character. Love this critter.

I can never bring myself to enjoy looking at or being around a chihuahua. My girlfriend has had hers for years. It has horrible possession issues over her to the point where I can't touch her without the threat of being bitten. I've been dating her for over a year and no part of his behavior has changed at all. He barks constantly and pees all over the place. His eyes are constantly watering and it has eyes boogers caked on the edges of his eyelids. He also has long matted hair. This thing is barely clinging to life and it seems like he is making it his final mission to make my life as miserable as possible. My girlfriend loves this dog and he knows, he knows it tears me apart inside. Ugh...had to vent. I guess I'll upvote a chihuahua post this one time.

Sorry that you had such a crappy experience with your girlfriends chihuahua. I have had 2 chihuahuas for 7 years, and about 4 years ago when I met my boyfriend my chihuahuas accepted him completely. At this point one of my chihuahuas has completely turned and become his dog (sleeps on his side of the bed, snuggles him on the couch, follows him around, etc). It sounds to me like a bad owner. Chihuahuas ARE manipulative little piss ants, and you can't let them manipulate things, you have to be the boss and put them in their place. Sadly, not enough chihuahua owners are willing to treat them like dogs and lots of chihuahuas become confused, spoiled, angry dogs. I'm sorry your experience has been so terrible :/ I hope that things change for you.

My boyfriend has a chihuahua mix. He's pretty much a bigger version of your dog actually. Same coat as yours. Very cute :3

Neither of my 2 chis or my moms 3 chis ever pee like that, he appears to be stretching his back legs. My dogs frequently stretch like this in the sunshine or after a good meal. I believe that they do this because chihuahuas frequently have knee problems in which their knee caps can slip out of place, however I have seen German Shepherds and Labs dot his also. You can see similar stretching in this video.

He is stretching. The only chihuahuas that I have seen pee like that were female chihuahuas, and even they lift one of their legs a little. Conor (the dog in the picture), stretches aaallll the time, so that is definitely him stretching.
