Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

This is one of my favorite gems from my gamecube days, and it saddens me that it was so overlooked and will probably never get another game.

[–]SketchNbeans 10 points11 points ago

Oh dear christ, this was my favourite game on the original Xbox, so much so that I kept it for memories when I sold on the console.

[–]doodads 2 points3 points ago

Oh man. I've beaten this game at least 5 times. The soundtrack is as amazing as the gameplay:

Also had a great intro video:

...time to fire up my gamecube.

[–]Funnyguy17 1 point2 points ago

YESSSSSSSSSS this game is fucking amazing I have always wanted to make a post about it but I am da lazy. I spent many many hours on this game.

[–]LoneRat 1 point2 points ago

I remember just playing the multiplayer non stop with my cousin. Couldn't you take control of bots with some gadget in the multiplayer, because I think thats why we loved the multiplayer so much?

[–]CaptainKilr0y 2 points3 points ago

Yeah you could. I still play it on my original Xbox! All I do I multiplayer with my sisters. I tools my friends about it and they thought 'that sounds really stupid'. Then I had them over and now they LOVE it. I also remember playing it with my cousin on his GameCube. We had a lot of fun.

[–]LoneRat 0 points1 point ago

So friggen good!

[–]skullcrusherbw 1 point2 points ago

I played it on the xbox and i can only remeber awesome.

[–]ReallyLikesRainbows 0 points1 point ago

I bought it on the Xbox marketplace even though I still have my ps2 copy. I could never quite get past the last boss

[–]ReallyLikesRainbows 0 points1 point ago

Yep, I think that was him. And me being 12 at the time didn't help my chances either

[–]immadethisrightnow 0 points1 point ago

Just so you know, that wasn't the last boss, quick go back and play it!

[–]TheEggKing 0 points1 point ago

Shit, my old PS2 is at my parents' house! Looks like it's time to pay them a visit. Wish me luck!

[–]SNAAAAAAAAAKE 0 points1 point ago

Last boss? I never got past the first ;_;

[–]AirshipAtamis 0 points1 point ago

one of the jewels on my childhood, i actually got a few friends to play the multiplayer and it was glorious.

[–]SatansChronic 0 points1 point ago

Oh man I loved this game on the GameCube. It's a shame I can't seem to find it anywhere anymore. My favorite definitely had to be crunk the swearing mechanic. Cracks me up everytime he talks

[–]Mikelius 1 point2 points ago

... I'll weld your exhaust pipe through YOUR BALL BEARINGS!!!

[–]Themoneymancan 7 points8 points ago

Never going to happen. Activision are jut holding onto the ip not doing anything about it.

[–]Seanjohn2800 4 points5 points ago

They've still got it? Once cod has perished, they'll have no choice.

[–]martellus 0 points1 point ago

I don't want to see it destroyed like that.. please no.

[–]sconethief 6 points7 points ago

[–]cereal_bawks 0 points1 point ago

...Wow. If only we had MA2... the surprise probably would've been a lot better.

[–]pixel_illustrator 0 points1 point ago

That was an excellent read. Thank you sconethief! Now I can go on lamenting the fact we will never see any sequels.

[–]RampantShovel 7 points8 points ago

Grenade! Turn back Glitch!

[–]Headless_Cow 5 points6 points ago

R.I.P Screwed & Hosed ;_;

[–]capmantio_facopl 4 points5 points ago

No time for tears, son!

[–]cereal_bawks 1 point2 points ago

The Droids remind me of little George Costanzas.

[–]Ginganinja888 5 points6 points ago

Dat rivet gun.

[–]doodads 1 point2 points ago

Dude, level 3 scatter blaster was where it was at; it was pretty much a fully automatic double-barreled shotgun.

[–]jensenthejman 4 points5 points ago

You probably need to see this. This game will never have a sequel, unfortunately. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/5268-Piracy-Episode-One-Copyright

[–]The_Insyder 0 points1 point ago

I was totally going to put that video up. Thank you person who did it for me. Now I can go back to mindlessly not doing anything.

[–]IHazMagics 2 points3 points ago

Holy crap, I think I remember this game. It was on PS2 right? If so I never played it but had a demo disk in an old PS Mag I bought.

Many hours.... Many hours.

[–]PsychoJester[S] 2 points3 points ago

It was on all three for that generation. I had the gamecube version and from what i remember i think it was considered to be the best one.

[–]Parabolized 2 points3 points ago

not true. with Xbox and Gamecube you could have 4 player splitscreen. I owned a PS2 version and would visit my friends' house just for this reason.

[–]sniktbubsnikt 2 points3 points ago

Man, I loved this game. Gimme a HD remake any day, I would totally buy it.

[–]firepelt 2 points3 points ago

Hell, I would buy it how it is now.

[–]TheTorn0utlaw 2 points3 points ago

Also had this on gamecube, bought it on 360 too :) Imagine this game, online mulitplayer with teathering Titans etc. 4 player multiplayer story and HD Graphics... drools

[–]SrgtTibbs 2 points3 points ago

One of the best gamecube games i've ever played.

[–]ZombieDivinity 1 point2 points ago

When I first bought an xbox the demo disc came with this game on it. After playing through the demo and completely perfecting it, I decided it would be the first game I would buy seeing as how it was less than 20 bucks at the time and Halo(the original reason for buying the xbox) was still 50 something. I played through Metal Arms far more times than I cared to count and the only part that still gives me trouble is the fucking scrapyard three levels in. I HATE THAT PLACE.

[–]SketchNbeans 0 points1 point ago

oh god, those zombie things scared the shit out of me to the point where I would take weeks to get through that level alone. It was just the way they ran, so terrifying!

[–]Headless_Cow 0 points1 point ago

Are you me? I always got swarmed and pushed off into the water, then NOPE'd and left it for another week.

[–]deadlykeyboard 0 points1 point ago

I hated those levels. However, I always made sure I had those grenades that turned enemies to my team. At least that way I'd have at least one zombie on my side to help fight the others off.

I loved this game.

[–]Taormania 1 point2 points ago

I played the shit out of this game on Xbox. Would love to play some online multiplayer

[–]Gmouth 1 point2 points ago

I used to work at the gamestore Swinging Apes used to buy their games from back in the day just before this game came out. They brought me in one afternoon the do a playtest and get feedback. They were a bunch of cool guys. But yeah, just after the game was released they were bought by Blizzard and did Starcraft Ghost and well......yeah.

[–]tthatfreak 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for confirming my previous reports on the game. Metal Arms was/is a great game that didn't sell well due to a lack of promotion. The game was so good that Blizzard gobbled up Swingin' Ape to put them to work on a possibly even better IP: StarCraft: Ghost. You can see how much Metal Arms influenced StarCraft: Ghost by looking at the early gameplay footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuT6eIWdAqE

[–]Dr_Toast 1 point2 points ago

The multiplayer and unique weapons/gadgets are what made this game shine

[–]illuminerdi 1 point2 points ago

This studio was bought by Blizzard several years ago and put to work on Starcraft Ghost.

I'm pretty sure they were all subsequently quietly integrated into the overall Blizz machine or otherwise laid off after that never came to fruition.

[–]gfutches 1 point2 points ago

I still love this game, It's the reason I leave my PS2 hooked up all the time. Not only is it fun to play, but it's got great humor too.

[–]bobbybbsn 0 points1 point ago

great game

[–]Nerkson 0 points1 point ago

I still have the Gamecube version sitting on my shelf. I didn't like the driving portion, but the shooting portion was fun.

[–]Baka-san 0 points1 point ago

I still have a full functioning PS2 and this game. I made it to the end I think, I just forgot it.. Time to replay!

[–]Sea-Salt 0 points1 point ago

Never really was on my "to-play" list, but didn't that game just play like a Ratchet and Clank game?

[–]jayhawk_dvd 0 points1 point ago

They are similar, but different. It's a little difficult to explain and just something you need to experience. Was a lot of fun, but pretty hard at the same time.

[–]Mr_That_Guy 0 points1 point ago

Swining Apes Studio was bought by Blizzard. I think the chances of seeing any sequel is near zero...

[–]TankorSmash 0 points1 point ago

Had one of my cheats published to gamewinners for this game. I was pretty proud.

[–]Kartikaya 0 points1 point ago

Impossible, the creator tried to buy back the rights so he could make a sequel but Activision won't sell, and don't have any intentions of making another one. I don't know why, maybe they don't want competition, but this seems like a ridiculous idea considering it's just one game that they're not using, but I honestly can't think of any other reason.

[–]IrishPub 0 points1 point ago

It will never be made. The creators actually posted the whole story online to read. Pretty interesting, which is terrible because I wish I could play it instead of just reading about it.

[–]dr_ye11ow 0 points1 point ago

Oh, this was one of the first video games I played... the nostalgia....

[–]Parabolized 0 points1 point ago

The names were great. Gen. Corrosive, Hosed, Screwed. my little brothers still play this on our PS2 and every time I hear Hosed and Screwed I chuckle.

[–]Brendles 0 points1 point ago

Such an amazing part of my younger days. Loved it.

[–]InfernoKong 0 points1 point ago

I remember reading about this in Nintendo Power, never got it though. Is it good, and does it still hold up?

[–]TheJonnyB 0 points1 point ago

I think so. Its like a third person shooter as well as a platformer. I had it on the Gamecube and fucking loved it. One of the most memorable games I have played.

[–]WrethZ 0 points1 point ago

It's fucking brilliant.

[–]f3tch 0 points1 point ago

About two months ago I bought it on xbox live. Worth it.

Edit: here you go

[–]davedwtho 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one that's instantly reminded of Hannibal Buress?

[–]martellus 0 points1 point ago

I barely played it at a friends, but it was such a great game. This and timesplitters need sequels.... too damn good to be ignored, yet somehow they are.

[–]Hey_its_Mal 0 points1 point ago

Is this the one with the gun which allowed you to control other robots?

[–]CaptainKilr0y 0 points1 point ago

Yep, and the grenade thing that made them your minions... Me and my sister had so many battles for that one grenade. Oh, the memories...

[–]IgotaBionicArm 0 points1 point ago

You'll get it when I get my Gladius sequel.

[–]WrethZ 0 points1 point ago

One of the best games ever made.

[–]Headless_Cow 0 points1 point ago

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this post. I thought I was the only one who still wants this so badly.

Such an amazing game - I remember setting up maps with tons of default enemy bots, and friends and I would all fight them cooperatively.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Yep I have it on the PS2, finished it 5 times and still play. I really want the next!

[–]CommissarValkyrie 0 points1 point ago

My old Xbox copy is crapped out, and I'd have to pay fifteen bucks just to get a digital copy. I wish the marketplace prices for older games would drop, or at least have the equivalent of a Steam Summer Sale. I'd buy shittons of old Xbox games if they were $2-5 bucks again, especially ones I've destroyed from overuse.

[–]azarashi 0 points1 point ago

Sierra is long gone sadly no sequel.

[–]BLO0DBATHnBEOND 0 points1 point ago

My friends and i would play this split screen on a 22 in. Tv all day great times...

[–]Hamtime 0 points1 point ago

SO GOOD OMFG

[–]fiberbum 0 points1 point ago

Was this the game with the that one level in the junkyard with the robot zombies? That level scared the shit out of me

[–]fallenspirit123 0 points1 point ago

Holy Crap! I love that game but forgot its name years ago! Thanks

[–]Psymon_Armour 0 points1 point ago

"I'm gonna go head 'em off at the pass." "Head 'em off at that pass? Who the fuck says that?! What are you, some kinda fuckin' cowboy!?" The profane robot was amazing.

God I loved this game. I had to go to like 5 different stores to find a GCN copy when it came out.

[–]BoxSquid 0 points1 point ago

This was probably the best $9 I ever spent.

[–]lisene 0 points1 point ago

I loved this game on my old xbox. I always thought there would be a sequel because of how it ended but it seems like its never going to happen. :(

[–]rychrist 0 points1 point ago

I would do nasty, unforgivably, unforgettable, mind blowing things in order to play a sequel to this.

[–]music_is_my_blood 0 points1 point ago

This was the game that got me into games... So it technically ruined my life. But I'm ok with it

[–]fireog420 -2 points-1 points ago

I would MUCH rather see a sequel to conker's bad fur day,an actual sequel, that game deserves it more than this...
