Cinemagraphs

These pictures go beyond just animated gifs, they are photographs with movement. The movement should be about atmosphere, not action. Inspired by the iwdrm and From Me to You blogs.

The distinction between Cinemagraphs and gifs

Here are a few how to's on how to make your own Cinemagraphs. If you have any others, message the mods and let us know! The more accessible this medium, the better.

Some apps for making Cinemagraphs:

Flixel

Echograph

Cinemagram

Some guide lines:

1) No regular .gifs. That defeats the entire purpose of this subreddit. They will be removed. Could someone conceivably frame a still image of the cinemagraph and hang it on the wall, because it would also make a great photograph? If the answer is no, the mods will delete the post, because it's a .gif not a cinemagraph.

2) They don't have to be flawless, but do your best too. The point of this subreddit is high-quality Cinemagraphs.

3) Make sure to put [NSFW] tags. That should go without saying.

4) If you found it on stumbleupon or on a major site, chances are it's already been posted. Take the 5-10 seconds to search and see if it's been clearly posted.

FAQ (Will be updated as more arise)

1) How do I make a cinemagraph my desktop background?

2) "Do I need to give credit/cite my posts?" YES. If the cinemgraph is not your original, you must post the source and give credit. It is unfair to the creator not to.

Holy crap this is so smooth.

[–]Asystole 36 points37 points ago

Yes! It's so well looped it looks like it's not looped at all... yet the glass never fills up. Very impressive.

[–]slartbarg 13 points14 points ago

There's a tiny stutter at the right side of where the whisky sloshes up in the glass, but it's not that noticeable.

One of the best I've seen.

[–]Therealsebastiandior 1 point2 points ago

I don't see it.

[–]Coffeeholick 17 points18 points ago

Go, go show this to /r/whiskey and /r/Scotch.

[–]Sandino21 6 points7 points ago

Johnny Black? I like.

[–]technorobot 5 points6 points ago

Pretty sure it's Johnny Gold Label.

[–]psonik 3 points4 points ago

Johnnie Gold Label*

[–]balchynz 1 point2 points ago

Still like.

[–]Sandino21 1 point2 points ago

How can you tell?

[–]technorobot 1 point2 points ago

The metal ring around the neck of the bottle looks like that gold/beige Gold Label color. Honestly though, your guess is as good as mine.

[–]glack 0 points1 point ago

i would guess red or black-- green, gold, and blue all are sealed with corks (as far as i know... i have green and blue, not gold though) and wouldn't have the cap ridges or the metal ring. cheers

Who made this?

[–]isinned[S] 7 points8 points ago

It's from the folks over at GitHub.com, but who specifically made it, I don't know.

If anyone is wondering, the glass is a glencairn, is a fantastic whisk[e]y glass, and can be had for under $10 off amazon or with a sandblasted reddit logo from the reddit store. /r/scotch can tell you more.

[–]epictaco 7 points8 points ago

Why is it not filling up?

[–]aphoenix 26 points27 points ago

Because it's purgatory.

I mean, on the one hand, you have a whisky bottle that never empties. But on the other hand, you have a whisky glass that never fills.

[–]ChaosNil 9 points10 points ago

I think I've been watching this for 2 hours... its not full yet in case anyone was wondering...

[–]AlexElectric 5 points6 points ago

This is so incredibly well done.

[–]Tiverty 2 points3 points ago

Wow, even passed up being zoomed in upon, could not see any choppiness. A truly artistic piece!

[–]scotty_pimmpen 1 point2 points ago

I want that GitHub glass.

[–]Scarjaka 1 point2 points ago

I pour and pour and pour but it won't fill up!

[–]notwherebutwhen 1 point2 points ago

These ones always remind me of those fake infinitely filling beer mug props. There was a store at my local mall that use to sell them.

[–]JAsherP 2 points3 points ago

That glass is bottomless.

[–]IAMJesusAMAA 2 points3 points ago

That's brilliant

[–]HarjiFangki -1 points0 points ago

Is that Octopussy?

[–]a11en 0 points1 point ago

[–]THEsolid85 0 points1 point ago

[–]HardCorwen 1 point2 points ago

incredible

[–]BarryMcCaulkiner 1 point2 points ago

im so proud of myself for discovering this subreddit. holy shit. have my upvote

[–]Celley 1 point2 points ago

Not to be nitpicky, but I thought the idea of the cinemagraph is that it's able to happen? Liquid pouring into a small glass that never does anything isn't natural... right?
