Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

kudos to the photographer

[–]Misanthropologist 59 points60 points ago

That's Vincent Laforet. Here's his blog about it http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/2010/09/16/i-thought-i-was-crazy/

No harness apparently, I'm surprised the weight of his balls didn't cause the antenna to snap.

[–]BruschiOnTap 17 points18 points ago

Technically its 3 guys hanging off the top of the ESB

[–]bayyorker 2 points3 points ago

4 I think. That leg looks way too far away to be the cameraman's. Edit: Or maybe I'm wrong and its a wide-angle lens?

[–]DreadPiratesRobert 7 points8 points ago

Oh man the entire time I was reading that I had butterflies in my stomach

[–]coogie 1 point2 points ago

Joe McNally did this once or twice too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEAKQFddTLI

[–]Apostolate 0 points1 point ago

Just reading that comment made my balls retract into my body.

[–]SpiderHamm 0 points1 point ago

i was thinking it was spiderman taking the picture, lol!

[–]kyleatom 0 points1 point ago

My feet got tingly shudder

[–]Sir2nv -1 points0 points ago

I agree!

[–]jamduck 48 points49 points ago

Shit i forgot my screw driver in the car..... Huge favor?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points ago

NO!

[–]SmoothWD40 7 points8 points ago

Here catch let me throw it to you.

[–][deleted] 61 points62 points ago

so for anyone who never climbs stuff like this, you really gotta think in 2 ways about falling:

Dead or Not dead.

Once your in the dead zone, confidence in gear is a requirement. i have no problems free hanging horizontal off a large cell tower as long as i trust the gear and its on me properly.

i dont understand for some people the higher you are the worse it is for them.. at some point your only gonna die so hard.

[–]SweetTeef 63 points64 points ago

Unless you're Bruce Willis.

[–][deleted] 41 points42 points ago

But the higher up you get the higher the probability that you'll die hard with a vengeance.

[–]Brocktoon_in_a_jar 8 points9 points ago

Holy Toledo

[–]CYRlX 0 points1 point ago

Somebody had some fun.

[–]capecodcarl 3 points4 points ago

Sometimes you just have to live free or die hard.

[–]SpicedHammer 10 points11 points ago

I've done a good bit of construction work on structures like this and the old timers always tell people who are afraid to stop worrying because past 30ft. you're dead anyway.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

exactly. :) knowing that makes it easy to climb above 30 ft. the hard part of tower climbing is the fatigue of perfectly straight up climbing for hundreds of feet. I have not done it in so long that i'm certain if i did, i would get 'rubber legs' by the time i got down. it gets scary when you get 'rubber legs' at the top. A little bit of shaking/weakness in your walking on that stuff and it gets more interesting.

Anyone else climb ? if so .. do you hook on while climbing up (other than during a break)

[–]SpicedHammer 2 points3 points ago

There really is no way to tie off while you are climbing the ladder because you would be re-attaching the clip constantly but there is protocol to follow for most of this stuff. I believe guy climbing has to stop and tie off to rest every 50ft or so. Not sure. And yes it is pretty interesting when you get up there and freak out. The guys climbing take it pretty seriously and if someone gets up top and freezes or wigs out they have to get down or be removed immediately because it actually creates more danger for the other people climbing.

[–]holycrapitsdan 0 points1 point ago

Most everything I have to climb has safety ropes/cables with a "Glider".

We have to be tied off all the time, so if there is no safety rope, that means a lot of hooking and unhooking lanyards.

[–]SmoothWD40 21 points22 points ago

The higher you go the more time you have to think about it on the way down. Fuck heights with a rusty serrated shovel.

[–]MrJay235 7 points8 points ago

That's not rust, it's dirt! At least you got the serrated part right.

[–]YoYoJimbo 2 points3 points ago

As a former elevator constructor I agree with you 100% When you get to the point that you know you'll die if you fall then you just keep the faith and DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. The moment you think about it is the moment you drop something. Maybe yourself.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Yep, honestly im okay with it.. heights always have the best view ;) Cell towers can offer amazing views.. we have some at the very top of mountains .. pretty amazing.

[–]YoYoJimbo 2 points3 points ago

It doesn't bother me much either. My views were mostly pitch black elevator shafts that were anywhere from 5 to 70 stories. Haha

[–]icouldbewrongbut 1 point2 points ago

Because, for me personally, the higher I am, the more of a visual I have for what the fuck it's gonna look like if I were to fall to my death. All about perspective. I don't think spiders are scary, but I can understand why other people do- they look gross! Just the same, I fucking hate heights because I'm high up and it looks terrifying looking back at potential death.

[–]xmonster 2 points3 points ago

This... explanation.... is awesome.

[–]grammarRCMP 1 point2 points ago

[–]brah-ntosaurus 0 points1 point ago

Except for the fact that as altitude increases, oxygen decreases, hence your decreased ability to breathe makes you less strong. Also wind speeds are higher the higher up you get making it more dangerous.

On second thought, not sure how scientific this is.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

you dont go up high enough to make much of an oxygen difference on most of the stuff i go on (sub 400 ft usually) Winds can be strong for sure.. the temperature is usually noticeably different

[–]Zhais 1 point2 points ago

1500ft isn't an incredible amount of difference. Typically the winds would maybe be a difference of a couple mph from the ground.

Definitely plenty of oxygen all the way up past 10,000 ft.

Source: I skydive and hang out under a parachute often enough at > 1500ft.

[–]slashblot -4 points-3 points ago

Yeah like seriously, if it bothers you that much, just pass the fucking joint and stop telling me about how paranoid it makes you.

[–]ninereeds314 15 points16 points ago

Sure, they have safety gear, but it wouldn't protect them from giant gorillas.

[–]GiantKanen 19 points20 points ago

sweaty palms

[–]RayadoEstrecho 30 points31 points ago

No this is sweaty palms

[–]skibbitybopadopolis 7 points8 points ago

shit...i couldn't stop squirming while watching that

[–]Apostolate 2 points3 points ago

Skip to 7:00 minutes and I'm pretty sure your testicles will retreat into your body.

[–]I_POTATO_PEOPLE 6 points7 points ago

I knew exactly what that was going to be before I clicked it. Fuuuuuuuck man, that video is awesome.

[–]Apostolate 0 points1 point ago

Scary awesome.

[–]NinjaHops 5 points6 points ago

And here you should definitely not have sweaty palms....

Ninjaedit: a letter

[–]ThatFeel_IKnowIt 1 point2 points ago

Wow. Talk about upper body strength.

[–]brownpaperful 3 points4 points ago

my anxiety has returned. thanks.

[–]Sindragon 7 points8 points ago

I've watched some sick, depraved, disgusting and downright stomach churning videos on reddit before, but nothing was as hard to get through as that.

[–]jba55 1 point2 points ago

[–]robotpandattack 0 points1 point ago

fuckfuckfuck! does anyone have any idea how common it is for these guys to fall down??

[–]foucaults_uvula 0 points1 point ago

How does a human being even get used to DOING that?? Did those guys have their sense of danger surgically removed, or something??

[–]MrAlpenglow -1 points0 points ago

now my stomach hurts so bad NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

[–]radiobaby 10 points11 points ago

tingle balls.

[–]3LollipopZ-1Red2Blue 9 points10 points ago

"A laying song tonight" FTFY

[–]sucom 0 points1 point ago

You tried, and that's what counts.

[–]zoodiary8 2 points3 points ago

yeah.. (:)

[–]McMan777 2 points3 points ago

Does anybody else get tingly feet instead of sweaty palms for heights?

[–]BinaryBeatnik 0 points1 point ago

[–]NPHisKing 16 points17 points ago

I see 3.

[–]Apostolate 6 points7 points ago

No you see two, and inferred a third.

[–]Sworn 7 points8 points ago

Well, I suppose that leg might just be wandering about.

[–]Apostolate 3 points4 points ago

OH BALLS.

[–]clickwir 0 points1 point ago

Nope, there's a leg.

[–]some_random_noob 8 points9 points ago

soo its 3 guys, you can clearly see the camera guys foot on the bottom left.

[–]IphtashuFitz 5 points6 points ago

You sure that's not just the body of the previous repairman who died of fright while up there and nobody was brave enough to retrieve him?

[–]some_random_noob 4 points5 points ago

if that were the case dont you think the camera operator would have taken a pic of that instead? A dead guy strapped to the top of the empire state building's antenna spire is a bit more interesting than 2 guys repairing it imo.

[–]pervertedpapaya 0 points1 point ago

but he's not hanging of the top, he's merely standing on it.

[–]fapswhiledriving 47 points48 points ago

There isn't any amount of money on this Earth that would get me to do that. I can barely handle 3 steps up a ladder without freaking out.

TL;DR Nope!

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]hinduguru 5 points6 points ago

this made me think about fapping from the empire state

[–]noss_boss 5 points6 points ago

My friends are in the bathroom fapping from the Empire State

[–]Apostolate 2 points3 points ago

When you have a small penis, you can do it one handed right under the wheel. No risk!

[–]spazmodic- 2 points3 points ago

How do you know this for sure? Better do a test run with a video to find out

[–]fapswhiledriving 2 points3 points ago

Dear god, that video seriously made me queasy. You sir, are an asshole. Haha

[–]spazmodic- 2 points3 points ago

hahahah, but at least you know for sure now!

[–]zoodiary8 2 points3 points ago

Me too.. ಥ_ಥ

[–]coltleader 0 points1 point ago

If it pay'd what I make right now, I would jump on that job in a hearbeat.

[–]walgman 0 points1 point ago

It's probably something to do with Ariels.

[–]NightOfPandas 0 points1 point ago

Im not usually afraid of hights, but the only time i've been truly terrified was when i was at the top my grandparents yaht mast fixing a light.. like 70 feet in the air on a somewhat thin pole (at least thinish at the top) i was like fuck fuck nope.

[–]3LollipopZ-1Red2Blue -3 points-2 points ago

what is too short for TL;DR?

TL;DR nice tits.

[–]Zarknord[S] 5 points6 points ago

They are changing the lightbulb up on the top!

[–]test3 4 points5 points ago

I can't even look at the pic let alone being up there.

[–]wmgregory 1 point2 points ago

Even as a rock climber.. I'm shaking.

[–]shewok 0 points1 point ago

It's giving me vertigo.

[–]HeNeArKrXeRn 2 points3 points ago

[–]Sfdavidbest 2 points3 points ago

While the really crazy guy takes their picture.

[–]IphtashuFitz 2 points3 points ago

Many years ago my dad was involved in a project that included installing an antenna on top of Rockefeller Plaza. He said that the workers who climbed the tower on top of the roof like these guys had a simple and effective way of warning people if they dropped anything (tools, hardware, themselves, etc): They'd yell "headache!" into their radios.

[–]holycrapitsdan 0 points1 point ago

We do the same thing at my job but just yell it, not into the radios. I always figured there was a better word to yell because "HEADACHE!!" sounds a lot like "HEEEEEYY!" which kinda has the opposite effect.

[–]Vive_Ut_Vivas 2 points3 points ago

I'm surprised they can concentrate on anything other than not falling considering the massive weight of their balls pulling towards the ground.

[–]iagainsti 2 points3 points ago

Whenever I see overhead shots of New York City, it reminds me of Coruscant.

[–]virati 2 points3 points ago

We built that... Everything in that picture came from a human. That'll never cease to amaze me...

[–]FreightConductor 1 point2 points ago

Amazing what can be accomplished when we work together.

[–]bowties_are_cool_ 2 points3 points ago

You know how you can tell it's not in Russia (landscape aside)? Safety harnesses.

[–]KangGuruAus 1 point2 points ago

that rope doesnt seem to be attached to something that can hold though.

[–]Asgard_Ranger 1 point2 points ago

I fucking hate English, they're "hanging on" while they're simultaneously "hanging off."

[–]Projekt_Mayhem 1 point2 points ago

3 guys... One guy's taking the picture.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

This is a trick shot. They are actually lying down and the Empire state building is mounted on a big wall. But still a sweet photo.

[–]moferator 1 point2 points ago

Notice their mustaches. Those are probably the reason why their balls are brushing the roofs of the passing taxi cabs.

[–]humble_braggart 1 point2 points ago

Don't do it; it's a Dalek trap!

[–]jmal13 0 points1 point ago

Who the hell took the picture?! Balls-O-Steel!

[–]asimovfan1 0 points1 point ago

Pretty amazing the physical response a picture can create.

[–]ta1ntdude 0 points1 point ago

But the guy who took the photo is even higher!

[–]GuardianOfAsgard 0 points1 point ago

The guy on the right reminds me of Richard Travers from Cliffhanger, or Rex Linn is his real name.

[–]clashatd3monhead 0 points1 point ago

It didn't look like they were having a good time.

[–]IAMA_Ghost_Boo 0 points1 point ago

They have safety harness's should be no problem. At least that's what I told my self the first time I went sky diving.

[–]nextgeneric 0 points1 point ago

[–]Granite-M 0 points1 point ago

It looks as though the thing they're working on is vertical, and the rest of New York got Inception-folded in half.

[–]sassypaws 0 points1 point ago

I clicked this photo and immediately said "well fuck that". I'm terrified of heights.

[–]SuperVillainPresiden 0 points1 point ago

I would have to parachute down.

[–]nogami 0 points1 point ago

[–]griffith12 0 points1 point ago

So fucking awesome.

[–]lisabadcat 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only person on Reddit who sees these kind of pictures and wishes I could be there or is everyone scared of heights?

[–]maxazor 0 points1 point ago

Two guys and a leg

[–]remembermars 0 points1 point ago

This would be a great job if I could wear a parachute.

[–]NoSkyGuy 0 points1 point ago

Every time I see that picture my heart skips a beat.

[–]CainCC 0 points1 point ago

once you do it a few times and really learn to trust in your equipment its really not that scary. besides, at that height everything looks kinda fake anyway. i find standing on the edge of a 3 story building to be way scarier than climbing a 600ft tower.

[–]NoOneToughtOfThis 0 points1 point ago

i got scared just by looking at it

[–]MrJigglyBrown 0 points1 point ago

At first I was all like "Hey there's another foot in the bottom left of the photo. There's actually three people!"

Then the other person in my brain is like "That's the photographer darling!"

Then I'm like "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HA HA HA........HA"

[–]jscoppe 0 points1 point ago

BUT, when I got to the top – I should of had one as I was out in the open

...should of...

ಠ_ಠ

[–]herbieloaded 0 points1 point ago

Just two guys MEN hanging off of the top of the Empire State building

[–]Chapps 0 points1 point ago

If that guys glasses fall, he's fucked

[–]Sniglet5000 0 points1 point ago

I don't like the way this picture makes my balls feel

[–]Colempe 0 points1 point ago

[–]Brandenburger 0 points1 point ago

Carful up there Doc Brown for the love of god carful!

[–]_Born_To_Be_Mild_ 0 points1 point ago

I would love a job like this, have absolutely no fear of heights. But I'm afraid of flying. o_O

[–]doubleas21380 0 points1 point ago

Balls, why are you in my stomach. Get back down where you belong!

[–]Zombifreak 0 points1 point ago

They should throw pennies off of there, it would probably murder hundreds.

[–]dearastronomer 0 points1 point ago

Nope. A penny can only fall so fast, due to air resistance.

[–]foucaults_uvula 0 points1 point ago

Additionally, its low mass is a factor limiting its damage potential. Force equals mass times velocity (f = m*v). A penny has very little mass, ergo it can't impart much force, no matter how fast it's going.

[–]dearastronomer 0 points1 point ago

Exactly. Combine low mass with a low terminal velocity, and you'd probably end up with, at worst, a nasty welt. (Ever been hit by hail? )

[–]onelung 0 points1 point ago

I base jumped that many times in GTA.

[–]moralsareforstories 0 points1 point ago

I can see my office from there!

[–]whatev_kev 0 points1 point ago

Aren't the "just two guys" posts supposed to be of famous people?

[–]ph1asco 0 points1 point ago

...doing lines of coke?

[–]ixireveng3ixi 0 points1 point ago

I see a third mans foot. Why did he get cut out of the picture? "What the fuck guys?"

[–]alliemckfly 0 points1 point ago

Watch out for Mount Olympus!

[–]56kuser 0 points1 point ago

for a second I thought that was Doc trying to catch lightning

[–]clickwir 0 points1 point ago

3 guys

[–]Chrisfromthefuture 0 points1 point ago

Every up vote the post gets is a foot higher they climb.

[–]anthemlog 0 points1 point ago

I like Denmark.

[–]RoosterCogburnhad1_I 0 points1 point ago

Those damned barn swollows make nests everywhere these days.

[–]Forgot_Your_Password 0 points1 point ago

god i hope he doesn't drop that wrench...

[–]nizon 0 points1 point ago

As someone who has climbed various towers and structures... this is one of the coolest experiences ever.

[–]Sapphique 0 points1 point ago

I see another foot on the bottom left hand corner, could it be four guys up there? Or maybe it's just the photographers legs...

[–]jxmcptp 0 points1 point ago

Ned? Ned Ryerson? BING!!!

[–]two-pm 0 points1 point ago

I thought the guy on the left looked like Walt Jr. from Breaking Bad.

[–]cshontz 0 points1 point ago

Yup.

[–]-JS- 0 points1 point ago

Someone needs to make it look like an old photo, it'll make it seem cooler.

[–]mrpickles 0 points1 point ago

I peed a little.

[–]VincentVanSPock 0 points1 point ago

The title should read "Just 3 guys hanging off the empire state building." Someone had to take the picture.

[–]marcoferraris 0 points1 point ago

it would suck to be the person who gets hit when they drop that screwdriver.

[–]anfea2004 0 points1 point ago

If that was me, I'd shit bricks

[–]ericzmeh 0 points1 point ago

Cant. Stop. Looking. At. The. Foot.

[–]OperatorMike 0 points1 point ago

Is that a thermal exhaust port?

[–]mnrepoman 0 points1 point ago

No way in hell.

[–]M0b1u5 0 points1 point ago

"Off of" = moronglish.

"From" = English.

[–]Zarknord[S] 0 points1 point ago

Actually it is more grammatically sound to say "Off of"

[–]markg90 0 points1 point ago

whatever, its not even the tallest building.

[–]livingfields 0 points1 point ago

its no biggie

[–]Riotmaker 0 points1 point ago
