If nintendo could read this:

I would ABSOLUTELY buy a Wii-U just to play this.

Definitely fan-made (a real trailer would have more environments than the clock tower), but very cool!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I wouldn't consider environments to be a deciding factor of whether or not a trailer is real. More like how there are no Nintendo or WiiU logos anywhere in the video. Maybe it's Nintendo being sneaky and looking for feedback.

But holy dick shitterz it really did look amazing.

I thought the same thing when I saw this thread. At the moment I have absolutely no plans for a Wii-U, but if they released pokemon snap on the Wii-U I would definitely get one.

You can buy a Wii and play it. It's on the store.

[–]Pyrle 8 points9 points ago

Well, yeah, but some of the Wii U's new features would work incredibly well with a sequel, or even just a remake.

I don't know why someone down voted you rather than explaining. What we're all drooling over is using the WiiU GamePad as a camera prehiprial(?) to take pictures of Pokémon.

[–]PartyBusGaming 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Oh yeah! I never thought of that. The WiiU controller does have motion sensation, right? I wonder if you could move it around and stuff and just have aim and shoot?

[–]NazzerDawk 2 points3 points ago

Plus we have over 10 years of new environments and Pokemon, plus advancements in computer analysis of photos. We could have an even deeper, more open experience with closer to 50 fully-detailed environments filled with as many secrets as the original title.

Well, I read that there will be a way to get the games you purchased on Wii U. I don't know how, but you may be able to get them back if you ever get a Wii U.

One of my favorite Nintendo 64 games, extremely relaxing. I've been wanting a sequel for ever, it would definitely be an instant buy for me. The Wii U would be perfect.

[–]hansthecleverhorse 44 points45 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It would be so great if they took it off the rails and made it more of an exploration game.

[–]alexanderwales 29 points30 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I never understood why Nintendo never made a full Pokemon game for console. It seems like a no-brainer money-maker. And they already have the gameplay skeleton, plus most of the serious world design done, so ... why not?

[–]Ultrace-7 29 points30 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It would make the handheld games look pathetic by comparison. They would be cannibalizing their own sales.

[–]sparklyjesus 29 points30 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That to me sounds like "instead of putting their money in our left hand, they're putting it in our right hand."

[–]curiousinsects 28 points29 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

But the Pokemon franchise practically sells their handheld systems. That means money in both hands.

[–]Ajdiv 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They're making pretty simple games.

If they created a full pokemon game for consoles, it would set a standard. When they release their next rehashed handheld game, people will say "This is rubbish compared to the console version!".

They need to make it look like they're 'upgrading' each game. If they release their magnum opus, they're hurting potential sales for their future handheld rehashes.

Disclaimer - I'm not using rehash in an insultive way. I love pokemon games.

[–]natidawg 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think I see where you are coming from, but I don't think that it would hurt handheld pokemon sales significantly. Part of the allure of pokemon is that I can play it anywhere: on the bus, at school, or more likely than not lying comfortably in my bed. The portable experience alone would justify me buying a handheld and console pokemon game.

Similarly, when they come out with Super Smash brothers for the 3ds and the Wii U, I will most likely buy both.

[–]HungryMoblin 14 points15 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm not sure. They did the same with Zelda and Animal Crossing.

[–]BritishMongrel 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

there would be ways around it, such as giving bonuses for having both and things like that, like being able to move across worlds and take your pokemon with you when you leave the house

[–]Pool_Shark 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Not if they made them two different type of games. Think of Zelda, the handheld Zelda's and the console Zelda's have such a different feel to them, yet they are both awesome. I could see them doing something similar with Pokemon.

[–]lulzury 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

[–]Eudaimonics 6 points7 points ago

It really liked many aspects of that game. The story was lame, but the game was dark and gritty, just like how I imagine the pokemon universe would actually be.

[–]feor1300 10 points11 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

forget a console game, why have they never made a pokemon MMO? The entire universe is built around the idea that at age ten 90% of the kids in the world leave home on a great adventure with uber powerful monsters, a natural fit for an MMO. Go free to play with a real money option at the poke-mart and you'd have a license to print (parent's) money!

[–]Chemfire 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I truly believe that in secret they are working on a 3D pokemon game of some sort. Be it an MMO, or a single player game with multiplayer options, There is something in development. But they aren't going to release it until it looks like the company is failing (And right now they aren't) And by releasing this game pokemon will have single handedly saved the company. I swear it.

[–]Pool_Shark 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think the best idea would be to make a game like Xenoblade but with Pokemon. It has the feel to a MMO but is a single-player console game. The world would be huge and instead of Pokemon randomly appearing you would see them in the wild. There will be CPU-trainers exploring the world too and they will randomly challenge you and like in the handheld games you must fight them. There is just so much they can do with this model.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

As much as I would love an MMO, they would have to rethink how the entire universe works. MMOs work because of different skill sets and species, races, etc. What would pokemon have? There isn't enough variety. I'm not saying it can't be done but I think it would be a very different game.

[–]slickboarder89 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Isn't enough variety? This is pokemon we're talking about, they got 649 different varieties ready to go.

[–]ThaiSweetChilli 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think there would be more than enough to cover a Pokemon MMO. You're right that it wouldn't be a traditional MMO, but it would certainly be an MMORPG I'd play with lots to do:

You mentioned the different species/races/skills etc; It would be amazing to explore because there are four regions, it would work out well if you could choose which region you wanted to start out with - regions could be the 'faction' (loosely speaking in MMO terms), and there could be special event days where you could take a cruise to the other regions and catch Pokemon that aren't in your island. And through Pokemon technology, even if you didn't make the cruise in-time, if you have a friend in another region you could trade?

The regions are also quite big, bearing in mind they would be towns and cities, not the 1/4 scale you get from the portable games. Exploration would be rife and plentiful! Seek the strongest, rarest Pokemon in the top of the mountain? There could be customisation/aesthetics that certain people would like -customising their own PokeTrainer/avatar, Secret Bases, the various types of Pokemon Contests, Pokeball customisation. For a completest there is so much because of all the items needed/required.

And PVP.. haha, c'mon! PVP would of course be Pokebattles! If you could see other players about like a normal MMO, you could request a duel right there and then! Competitions!

Quests? : To be the very best. (And occasionally run an errand for your region's professor.. OH, AND BEAT TEAM ROCKET/PLASMA/AQUA/MAGMA/WHATEVERTHEFUCKTHEYCALLTHEMSELVES.)

...Yes, I've always dreamed of a Pokemon MMO.

[–]mchugho 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The legendary Pokemon could be one time only events and could only be caught by the top members of the top guilds. (Assuming of course a guild type system).

[–]Pool_Shark 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Don't forget the obvious quests of beating Gym Leaders.

[–]feor1300 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It would be very different from say, WoW, but would that be such a bad thing? Instead of your character building his skills you build your pokemon and their skills. if anything I'd say you have more variety, since instead of having a half dozen classes worth of potential skill, you have 400+ different pokemon, and can mix and match 6 of them with 4 skills each, making your character almost infinitely customizable. And if you don't like your choice, just stick a pokemon in your computer and go capture a new one.

i remember reading/watching somewhere about how gamefreak wants to keep pokemon more of a social game than one you can just play inside. the whole reason why you could never get all the pokemon in one game by yourself was so that you could meet new friends who might happen to have the other copy of the game, and you always needed a friend or two to catch all of them.

[–]seamouse 10 points11 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I was (and still am, I suppose) extremely disappointed that this never came out for the Wii. Here you have the perfect use of the motion sensor controller: a point and click camera. It's a game that wouldn't need a whole lot of skill to have a great time playing, so I had hoped it would be released early on as a way of winning people over to the wiimote style of play. I just never understood why they didn't bother with it.

[–]admiralrads 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

...it did, on the Wii's marketplace or whatever it's called. I have it. I use a Gamecube controller so I'm not sure if the Wiimote could be used, but the game is still there.

[–]seamouse 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Sorry, I meant a new game, as in a Pokemon Snap 2. It would keep in line with pushing newer Pokemon games cross-platform, and would still be easy to do. It is nice that they put the original up on the marketplace, but if I were Nintendo, I just feel like it would've been a no-brainer to make a Wii specific version that slightly updated the graphics, added some newer Pokemon, and made use of the wiimote.

Everything about the WiiU is perfect for this.

[–]blackmatter615 12 points13 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No. Im sorry, it isnt a must. A must is an open world Pokemon game that features 2 mechanics. You can be a trainer or a journalist.

If you are a trainer you must go out and catch your pokemon in the wild, train them up, fight other trainers, and slowly gain notoriety by having photo-journalists take pictures of your winning and/or epic plays. As you gain notoriety you are invited to compete in various gyms of different leagues, ending in a yearly grand tournament where the winner goes against 4 nintendo controlled trainers of great epicness.

If you are a photo-journnalist, you have to take pictures of pokemon doing amazing things, be it in their natural environment or during trainer battles. It uses the pokemon snap style rating, and as you gain notoreity, you get invited to new areas/gyms (depending on if you worked on your nature or battle score) to photograph there, competeing with others to gain access to the top tier gyms (nature is a bit more casual and easy going in terms of once an area is unlocked it is permanently unlocked). You have to risk climbing into the mouth of the volcano in order to get that epic charizard bursting forth from the lava shot, and have the reflexes to get a good picture of it occuring, as opposed to battle where using a tripod is easier since the action is more fixed around central points, but only the best of the best can get to the top.

tl;dr Innovate, dont recreate.

The fact that I'm 24 years old, and still giddy over playing this says something. Can you IMAGINE how many more levels, Pokemon, secrets, items you could add? They could make every level unique... a park level where you ride your bike... a forest level where you get to control where you walk... an underwater level... snow/desert/whatever. The game could have 10 times the content of the old game.

If Nintendo could pull this off, I would buy a Wii-U. No question about it.

And while we're on this subject... what about revamping the Pokemon Stadium game? Can you imagine the possibilities with that one as well?!?!

[–]silverscreemer 4 points5 points ago

There has been no word about Pokemon Snap because they have been working hard on it for the last 8 years.

Either that or Nintendo has factories that run on tears. Great lubrication.

How about Nintendo gets their act together and makes a 3rd person RPG Pokemon game on this new console? I'm talking like Skyrim, but Pokemon. Character customization, free-roaming, spontaneous battles w/ Pokemon specific to the area you're in, side quests, main storyline, bikes, the choice of being a good or evil trainer through dialogue choices and training... I could go on, but cant you see how amazing this would be Nintendo? You're sitting on a gold mine. Seriously, why haven't they done this? It's the only way I'm buying the WiiU.

One of the only 2 games I've played on my Wii - the other is Twilight Princess. This one is the only online purchase I've every made from the Nintendo online store and necessitated the purchase of a gamecube controller so I could play it (the Wii was my first Nintendo console).

Why waste time reading this stupid sub reddit when we can be playing Pokemon snap

[–]demalo 1 point2 points ago

I once got a perfect 100 on Mew. I can't tell you how long I played that game to get that shot. It's probably still on the memory card.

The things I would do to Nintendo if they released this for WiiU. Dirty, dirty things.

I remember going to Blockbuster to print up the pictures I took. It felt ultra badass back then.

This has been a must for every Nintendo console since the N64... Though the WiiU is definitely the most fitting for it, even more so than the 3DS...

[–]mediaddiction 1 point2 points ago

They would have to bring back the ability to print my pictures into real world stickers. I remember taking my game cartridge to Blockbuster to do this. Blockbuster...

Why would you want a money squeezing, glorified minigame for the Wii U?

We're going to have enough of those already.

How about an ACTUAL console Pokemon game? You know, with exploring, catching, training, and battling?

[–]Cloakedboltz 2 points3 points ago

I'm not sure what Reddit is going crazy about. It was an "ok" game that you could rent and beat in 3 days.

[–]pwndnoob 1 point2 points ago

The best games for nostalgia are short, simple, and sweet. Think Tony Hawk Pro Skater or Portal. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 and Portal 2 provided more gameplay options, but it's the simple original that takes the cake. Pokemon Snap fills the same role.

[–]Jaffacakelover 1 point2 points ago

So is this. About to be re-released for Wii, but would work so much better on Wii U.

[–]carlotta4th 1 point2 points ago

Now THAT would actually make sense. Exploring the islands... and using your remote as a camera to take pictures of the pokemon? That feels intuitive. That feels like it fits in without being a gimmick.

I don't like 99% of Wii and Wiiu games, but I would like this.

This is also an interesting concept that should also be on the 3DS seeing as you can bring the 3DS wherever you go and it has a back and front camera.

My brother and boyfriend keep giving me shit for liking this game and I don't understand! My friend let me borrow it two weeks ago - I have always wanted to try/play this game, and I absolutely loved it to Hell.

But they kept telling me the game just looked shit.. For my brother I can understand, he'd probably prefer if the guy had a gun instead of a camera, but still. Meh.

Yeah, Pokemon Snap was a fun game, but it didn't have nearly enough playability. It took me about 6 hours to get top-scoring pictures on every level, for every pokemon. Not worth the $50 I paid for it, so I returned the game.

[–]kittykatinabag 0 points1 point ago

Why not both a WiiU title AND a Nintendo 3DS title? I think it would be a fabulous game for the 3DS.

[–]AntiTheory 0 points1 point ago

I was so pissed when I beat that game in like 5 hours. I wanted to take it back to Gamestop and get the $50 I spent on it refunded.

[–]Pbpro13 0 points1 point ago

Let me put it to you in simple terms: If Nintendo were OP, they wouldnt deliver...

[–]Digital_Phoenix 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I take it you guys haven't played this game since its initial release? It's short, simplistic, features only about half of the original 151 Pokemon, and it is on-rails! At least exploration would add some re-playability to it. As it is, you'll get through all the game's content in a single afternoon.

[–]BlondeChell 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

How many new games can you blaze through in a single afternoon now though?

[–]UltraClops66 0 points1 point ago

This would be awesome, but it would be entirely epic with all 649 of them. 63 Pokemon? Really? Come on Nintendo, you're gonna have to step it up.

[–]youlysses 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Welcome to a year-or-so ago. I think this was the initial response of most Snap fans when they first saw it, I know it was for me.

I have no doubt this will be a title, the question to really ask is "Will it be a launch title?".

[–]dazonkey 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Bitch please, I still have this with my Pikachu N64 along with both Pokemon Stadium's and the controller packs that let you play the GBC games on the N64. I also have the original Super Smash Brothers, and some other cool shit.

[–]dracozeitgeist 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Pokemon Snap: Teaching Pokemon fans that a little poison goes a long way.

Also, you can take a picture of Pikachu riding on Articuno's back. Best game ever.

[–]Kayin_Angel 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Good lord, why. Why not a full adventure rpg, with online versus, and local vs where you can use the controller to hide your next move.

[–]MrGreencastle 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Honesty I'd prefer it on the 3DS. With Paper Mario, NSB2, Luigi's Mansion, as well as a ton of other awesome games, 3DS is quickly becoming my ACTUAL sequel to Wii. :/
