Don't give the Brickster pizzaz.

[–]wolophiser 45 points46 points ago

I was so terrified of the Brickster escaping when I was a little kid playing Lego Island that for weeks I carefully avoided giving him that fateful pepperoni pizza. I finally worked up the courage to do it and holy shit, the chase to catch him again was one of the most intense gaming experiences I have had to this day. Never did it again, though. It was too much for my six-year-old brain.

[–]Mawbellog 16 points17 points ago

I used to think that when you gave the pizza to the Brickster and he escaped, you lost the game. That was it, you gave him the pizza and GAME OVER.

[–]wolophiser 5 points6 points ago

I think I thought pretty much the same thing. Like, you'd probably have a chance to catch him, but if you failed the island would be destroyed forever or something.

[–]Humperdink_Fangboner 55 points56 points ago

God that game was the tits.

[–]Obj_solid 14 points15 points ago

"was the tits" How long has that been a thing?

[–]CrustyChebs 12 points13 points ago

Too long. "Amaze-balls" and "the tits" are being used wayyyy too often by people in real life situations these days.

Having said that, Lego Island was the dog's bollocks.

[–]JenksAlamo 1 point2 points ago

my...My childhood

[–]jhb2wr 7 points8 points ago

Lego Radio here folks, reminding you, do not feed the Brickster. The brick you save might just be your own.

[–]JustLookWhoItIs 176 points177 points ago

I think that was the point, but Lego City looks almost like Lego GTA to me, which I'm totally alright with.

[–]Richandler 36 points37 points ago

This.Is exactly what it was. Which isn't bad. Being Lego you can do a lot more as well. We'll see.

[–]dardin 30 points31 points ago

A Lego GTA my 6 year old and I can play together.

[–]Orcatype 1 point2 points ago

Just so there's whores

[–]TheCodexx 4 points5 points ago

Blowing little Lego guys into bits is okay. Running over crash-test-dummy looking guys in regular GTA isn't.

[–]darklight12345 7 points8 points ago

i think it's more the constant cussing and blood.

[–]TheCodexx 0 points1 point ago

Up to you what your kid sees and hears, to the best of your ability to shield them. I just never bought the "kids who are exposed to blood/cursing will be ruined!" argument. Violence without blood doesn't really communicate the consequences of violence. And curse words don't really offend anyone unless they're taboo. Granted, you don't want to traumitize the kid and we're likely pretty desensitized, but on the whole I think everyone in /r/gaming knows seeing violence != violence and I personally think desensitizing someone is the best way to turn them off to something.

[–]darklight12345 1 point2 points ago

hey, i didn't say i agreed with him. I'm more on your side of the debate. I just feel like thats why the majority of adults feel uncomfortable with the idea of letting their kids play games like GTA yet kill lego people.

[–]Jimblober 5 points6 points ago

When I played this game as a kid, I was distraught when I lost for the first time. When the brickster destroyed the pizzeria and took over Lego island, I actually broke down, ran to my mum and cried...

[–]Frejesal 0 points1 point ago

Oh gosh...the amount of guilt I felt when I unwittingly let him out of jail and he took over the island was soul-crushing..

[–]neagrosk 14 points15 points ago

Gah now I want a GTA styled Lego game that works like Minecraft, you would be able to place blocks like minecraft but with the customization and variety of blocks like Lego sets.

[–]rusemean -5 points-4 points ago

Am I the only one who remembers this game?

[–]MosquitoMan 14 points15 points ago

I remember that. Lego Racers was also an awesome game.

[–]Spartan051 7 points8 points ago

Rocket Racer was such a dick.

[–]CowsRTasty 1 point2 points ago

I actually played it again a few months ago. It does not age well, unfortunately.

[–]FaithSkirata 0 points1 point ago

Lego Racers 2 was the shit. Loved that game.

[–]GamerKT 49 points50 points ago

[–]Battletooth 20 points21 points ago

Every time I see that comic, I just can't get over her faces. They don't match what she's saying. Especially the last panel. It just feels so wrong.

[–]GamerKT 2 points3 points ago

It makes it funnier, to me.

[–]rusemean 3 points4 points ago

Was it really a popular game? I didn't know anyone else who had it. I've mentioned a number of times since then and never encountered anyone familiar with it. Still, thanks for the laugh

[–]GamerKT 10 points11 points ago

I have no idea what its popularity was at the time. I just have a pet peeve about people who start posts with "Am I the only one?" :p

[–]almightydf 2 points3 points ago

It actually wasn't very popular at all, sadly. At the time, it was a bit complex for kids.

It's gotten a sort of small cult following these days though, from older gamers rediscovering it and seeing the freedom it has.

It's a shame, I'd honestly call Lego Creator the proto-Minecraft/Infiniminer.

[–]wishingidiot 2 points3 points ago

if only Minecraft was out when we were kids. oohhhh boy. i think it would have effectively absorbed my childhood.

[–]Mullet_Ben 4 points5 points ago

Am I the only one around here who's heard of this?

[–]Woolio 4 points5 points ago

NO.

[–]This-is-Eskimoe 1 point2 points ago

I loved this game as a kid. What's complex about setting up a small town, laying down tnt everywhere and watching the bricks fly?

[–]superkrups20056 3 points4 points ago

I had it, but I couldn't get it working on my Pentium II at the time, so I was never able to play it.

[–]TSTRO7 1 point2 points ago

Same problem here. Had an old Compaq that just couldn't run it. Had to wait until my dad got a new computer that could handle ithe game. It was well worth the wait!

[–]thejwalker 1 point2 points ago

I had it, but my dad's old work laptop could not run it. I hated the UI as well.

[–]mediocreatleast 4 points5 points ago

Just the other day I was looking through all my old computer games and found Lego Island and Lego Creator.

[–]The_Swink 3 points4 points ago

No, was actually planning to see if i got get it to work, and if it was still as good as i remembered.

[–]neagrosk 2 points3 points ago

It was nice but if there was a new version with a modernized UI, larger map, and improved AI it would be awesome.

[–]Unit4 0 points1 point ago

This would be amazing. I loved that game as a kid, and I would play that so hard. I would also love multiplayer, for my brothers and such, but that is asking a bit much I realize.

[–]Safor001 1 point2 points ago

That game may actually be my most played game to date. I love that game, I loved being able to make flying skyscrapers.

[–]Woftles 1 point2 points ago

I stole a copy of that game when I was a child.

[–]nss68 1 point2 points ago

i had it, but i was nuts about legos, really.

[–]Ghostmuffin 2 points3 points ago

GTA + Minecraft + lego + Mature rating. Would be the best thing ever. THrow in some open sandbox multiplayer as well.

[–]nlebowitz 1 point2 points ago

It did to me too, but keep in mind that Lego Island is absolutely nothing like GTA.

[–]nlebowitz 0 points1 point ago

Just imagine, lego strippers. I'd pay a lot of money for a game like that.

[–]GotHicks 0 points1 point ago

That is because GTA is just Lego Island without the legos in third person.

[–]JustLookWhoItIs 0 points1 point ago

GTA also has significantly more hookers.

[–]Kareeda 53 points54 points ago

I've got more degrees than a thermometer!

[–]LeNouvelHomme 13 points14 points ago

If the colors clash, do the cars crash?

[–]Kareeda 34 points35 points ago

Hi, I'm Bill Ding and you're... BUILDING!

[–]LeNouvelHomme 9 points10 points ago

Oh god, the puns in that game never stop. It's been years and the car one always stuck with me. I'd forgotten about Bill Ding!

[–]dylansan 19 points20 points ago

I remember being so scared of that big kicking skeleton that you had to race under. I don't know why but I had nightmares about that.

[–]VanessaL3000 13 points14 points ago

Because it was like you were driving through Lego Hell. Seriously, after you mentioned that I suddenly remembered that entire racing level. Fuck that shit.

[–]pharaocomplex 4 points5 points ago

Don't know about the english version. But in my language they pulled something like "pepper roni on a pony" when you were riding the t-rex.

[–]IAmOzymandias 48 points49 points ago

The new guy in Lego City is nowhere near as rad as Pepper Roni

[–]JaWaLa 8 points9 points ago

YOU'RRRRRRREEEEE PEPPERRRRRR! I always liked the way he said that.

[–]Frejesal 0 points1 point ago

followed by, WELCOME TO LEGO ISLAND!

nostalgia tear

[–]ddddealwithit 0 points1 point ago

The dude with the food!

[–]loradey 28 points29 points ago

This game was seriously the best.

[–]aryary 7 points8 points ago

Agreed, fucking loved it. One of the first games I played a lot.

[–]cmykenny 21 points22 points ago

before minecraft and a la starcraft...there was my personal fav, Lego Rock Raiders

http://i.imgur.com/cocG6.png

[–]econymous 5 points6 points ago

Oh man, that game too! The fuckin' dudes came out of the rock and you had to kill em

[–]Ethazor 5 points6 points ago

oh my god I forgot about this!

[–]CrustyChebs 6 points7 points ago

One of the coolest Lego ranges ever - hit the right balance between a cool concept and having to use your imagination - and one of the best games of my youth. Serious nostalgia for Rock Raiders.

[–]WestminsterNinja 2 points3 points ago

Sooooooo much rage at Lego dudes that do not do as they are told. >_<

[–]Cheeseball701 21 points22 points ago

Oh man, the Brickster better make a cameo.

[–]WrethZ 4 points5 points ago

It looks like you can look like him for a disguise in the trailer.

[–]wainface 34 points35 points ago

After years of wondering "what was that game i played when i was young called" i finally know, Thanks you sir.

[–]CATRAPISTFROMTHAHOOD 0 points1 point ago

Same here

[–]VanillaFever 0 points1 point ago

Yep, I always knew it was amazing. I just couldn't ever remember the name.

[–]emoney2burn 7 points8 points ago

Lego Island reference? Have some karma!

[–]scalemodlgiant 14 points15 points ago

Brick by brick! Tock by tick!

[–]44problems 3 points4 points ago

[–]DirtySnakes 1 point2 points ago

Dat soundtrack. I miss it, so damn much.

[–]Mottomi 1 point2 points ago

I remember when I used to stay at the top floor of the Information Tower for hours to listen to the radio. So relaxing and immersive for me at the time!

[–]DerekBrighten[S] 31 points32 points ago

I'm just glad to see a regular honest to god Lego game that isn't just a spin off of some other franchise

[–]mrsalty1 5 points6 points ago

LEGO Universe was a lot of fun, but it didn't last unfortunately :(

[–]tomdoughty94 1 point2 points ago

What happened to it?

[–]blackmatter615 5 points6 points ago

it went off to mmo heaven

[–]tomdoughty94 4 points5 points ago

Mystery solved.

[–]Dweide_Schrude 0 points1 point ago

It really was great. Tear.

[–]Accipiter1138 0 points1 point ago

Sigh. I still have the tile sitting on my desktop. I don't have the heart to delete it...

[–]mrsalty1 1 point2 points ago

Same here :( I wish they would do like minecraft and allow people to run their own servers.

[–]sylinmino 4 points5 points ago

That's exactly what it's supposed to be: a sequel. And GOOD GOD DO I WANT IT!!

[–]Airaieus 10 points11 points ago

[–]Woolio 1 point2 points ago

I hated the diving bit... I didn't finish it until I was 14, and I got the game when I was 8.

[–]Crappedinplanet 2 points3 points ago

I couldn't pass the joust. Broke 2 keyboards.

[–]Gageaz 0 points1 point ago

Couldn't get through the fishing part over here

[–]MrBlahStrikesAgain 0 points1 point ago

I had to get a friend to do it, turned out I wasn't even pressing the right buttons.

[–]yanchovilla 0 points1 point ago

I couldn't either, until I installed it on a newer computer.

[–]SpagettInTraining 1 point2 points ago

i only had that for GBA and i have to say, that beside Dexter's Laboratory: DeeDee's revenge, was my favorite game for that system.

[–]SlayersScythe 12 points13 points ago

Yes! I couldn't place it. I used to love this game!

[–]ScreechSkater 6 points7 points ago

I was a boss pizza delivery Lego boy.

[–]LittleDansonMan 31 points32 points ago

The dude with the food.

[–]SpaceOdysseus 3 points4 points ago

No way, the cop was always the coolest.

[–]TheDeza 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I was always the cop whilst my friends always went for the pizza boy. Shame that they made pizza boy the only character in the sequel.

[–]AstralVoid 5 points6 points ago

Dat trippy as fuck racing track

[–]halzen 4 points5 points ago

I played the shit out of that game as a kid. Now, any time I hear the word "road block", my mind replays that stupid fucking parrot: "Road block! I'm not going anywhere. Find a way around, or come back later."

[–]fiction8 6 points7 points ago

Lego Island was hard as FUCK.

The Brickster owned me as a kid.

You say they're coming out with a new one (basically)? Hell yes.

[–]Ryz0n 2 points3 points ago

Omg, I fucking loved this game when I was little.

[–]frownifdown 2 points3 points ago

Holy shit. Talk about a blast to the past. This game was a huge part of my childhood. I will go torrent it now.

[–]B_Boudreaux 2 points3 points ago

oh yeah this game was the shit

[–]gogoedward 2 points3 points ago

Yes to all of this. One of my all time favorite games.

[–]spgtothemax 2 points3 points ago

This and that Lego racing game were the shit.

[–]Clint_beastw00d 2 points3 points ago

I played the hell out of that game. I would always go the hospital and drive around

[–]phizanot 1 point2 points ago

Lets do nothing but post this image

[–]Chexmix36 1 point2 points ago

I loved this game.

[–]Lukyday_42 1 point2 points ago

This game revolves around mayhem

[–]lazyrocker666 1 point2 points ago

this was the first computer game I ever bought on my own, I used my birthday money when I was a little kid

[–]Joke_Getter 1 point2 points ago

Hey, everyone. A Lego game reminded this guy of another Lego game. Let's ask him what Black Ops 2 reminds him of!

[–]Winstonia 2 points3 points ago

Bag of wank?

[–]heytherewhatnow 1 point2 points ago

thats a good thing. Thats a very, very good thing.

[–]Tyaedalis 1 point2 points ago

I love the Lego games and this one looks like the best one yet!

[–]toadwarrior 1 point2 points ago

I'm definitely buying that. I think Lego city is going to be all kinds of awesome.

[–]silverscreemer 1 point2 points ago

Lego Island needs to be in this game exactly as it was (Perhaps 10 or so years later?), with pizza delivery mini game.

[–]LordTeapot 1 point2 points ago

Oh my god. I remember playing that as a kid!
I love that game :)

[–]-Cloud-chaser- 0 points1 point ago

Who remembers mama and papa pizza's song?

[–]BobbySmithy 1 point2 points ago

Any chance of running this game on Windows 7?

[–]noachris 1 point2 points ago

In your home or in your car You are never really far From L-E-G-O RADIO!

[–]Jlwman62 1 point2 points ago

Those police officers sucked at chasing down the prisoner at the end. Damn pizzas.

[–]eirinn312 1 point2 points ago

I fucking loved this game so much.

[–]Shobster 1 point2 points ago

Wow, the nostalgia flowed right through me. I could still hear the old dude's voice in my head.

[–]gerb993 1 point2 points ago

Wow, I had no idea this game was even remotely popular. I won it in at my sister's public school raffle when I was 5 and I played the shit out of it. I saw the Lego City trailer yesterday and all I could think was "I would be shitting my pants with excitement if I was my past 5-year-old self right now". The sad thing is that young kids these days (yea I'm saying it) probably aren't nearly as excited as they should be about games like this because they've been spoiled. My parents weren't strict with violent games, especially my dad, but all I remember playing as a kid was Frogger, Crash Bandicoot, Jumping Flash, and my dad's super nintendo classics. I can't imagine the person I would be right now if all I played was CoD, GTA, and GoW. But wow I need to stop... I'm ranting like an annoying old fart and I'm only 18.

[–]darkrevo 1 point2 points ago

Oh man I use to love that game remember plaything that on like the worst computer at like 15 fps > . >

[–]Tejalapeno 1 point2 points ago

I've been waiting for a new lego city since I was ten this was a big highlight during the nintendo conference

[–]Surfsideryan 1 point2 points ago

This used to be my favorite game.. I played it all the time!

[–]eggynutmuf 1 point2 points ago

Only one of the best fucking games I've ever played.

[–]FreEarl 1 point2 points ago

Amazing 3D Action Adventure CD-ROM Game!

[–]djowen68 1 point2 points ago

You can move a mountain if you do it brick by brick.

[–]marcopolo22 3 points4 points ago

I remember playing the HELL out of this game. My gosh... I still remember what happens when you don't catch the bad guy. Some massive pizza Ferris wheels starts rolling around the city and stuff. Crazy crap.

[–]Safor001 0 points1 point ago

Wow, I just got hit with a truckload of nostalgia seeing that cover, I'm installing right now.

[–]3rebu5 0 points1 point ago

Wow I remember this game!!!

[–]tagrav 0 points1 point ago

my version of windows never played this game :(

[–]Kolbitos 0 points1 point ago

I was pleasantly surprised with what they showed about Lego City. and I love being pleasantly surprised

[–]yumOJ 0 points1 point ago

FUCK THE BRICKSTER

[–]Kafke 0 points1 point ago

Yes. Loved that game. Can't wait for Lego City. Which is surprising since I usually don't like Lego's games.

[–]AJBURNSRED 0 points1 point ago

Mama Brickolini told me I looked so skinny. That song is still stuck in my head. This game was my childhood.

[–]THE_NO_LIFE_KING 0 points1 point ago

I wanted this game back in the day but my PC couldn't run it

:(

[–]monty6447 0 points1 point ago

Did anybody else get this game out a can of Cheese balls?

[–]StickyBunz1 0 points1 point ago

Fuck yes, my little brother is so addicted to those that he got 3

[–]FlamingCamel 0 points1 point ago

Lego city was the shit

[–]iGotNades 0 points1 point ago

Ah, this game brings back so many good times.

[–]username-rage 0 points1 point ago

All I want from this game is for pedestrians to explode into lego bits when you run them over.

[–]justinharrison1337 0 points1 point ago

Upvote because as an 8 year old, lego island was my shit.

[–]AutumnEmber 0 points1 point ago

I loved that game but for some reason whenever I tried to give the guy in jail a pizza or catch him it would act up and I couldn't do anything constructive.

[–]Meatslinger 0 points1 point ago

You have no idea how much of the fuck I played out of Lego Island.

[–]ZapActions-dower 0 points1 point ago

No shit.

[–]spovz 0 points1 point ago

Oh wow, I used to play the shit out of this game!

[–]Jackamatack 0 points1 point ago

HAHA! Your so stupid kid! I'll use the smell of the pizza to unlock this gate!

[–]spartaninspace 0 points1 point ago

I thought the Brickster used the sauce to melt the... bars...

Why is my memory of random videogame shit not as good as my regular memory?

[–]conitation 0 points1 point ago

And if it is anything like Lego island then they are doing it right :)

[–]Pohawk 0 points1 point ago

Fuck Ya Lego Island!

[–]ItsonFire911 0 points1 point ago

LOL YESS I HAVENT SEEN THIS GAME IN YEARS! Oh the memories

[–]OneofYourFiveaDay 0 points1 point ago

MY CHILDHOOD!

[–]tanner4105 0 points1 point ago

Thank god, another reason to post this fucking picture!

[–]drb00b 0 points1 point ago

I was so disappointed when I found out that I needed 3D acceleration to run this that I cried. I saved my money up for months doing chores to buy it.

[–]Quarksy 0 points1 point ago

RIGHT in the nostalgia!

[–]Mawbellog 0 points1 point ago

I like that Lego games have kept pretty much the same brand of humor in all their games since Lego Island.

[–]KingwithouthisKrown 0 points1 point ago

Too late to the thread but this game blew my mind as a child because I believed it was made with my town as the map. Only because of the salt and pepper pizza store which we have, and could only be the only one in the world.

[–]Zamorak 0 points1 point ago

Excuse me while I go into the fetal position from my nostalgia overload.

[–]wizzrobe30 0 points1 point ago

This game was the shit when I was 5.

[–]redstonenico 0 points1 point ago

I loved this game when I was 6! I hated the loading screens that were so long.

[–]greg0ry 0 points1 point ago

THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS!

[–]Aluminati 0 points1 point ago

CHILDHOOD. WELL. SPENT

[–]cobrahh 0 points1 point ago

This.

[–]BlondeChell 0 points1 point ago

3 years ago I found a "bundle" at Target, that had the full versions of Lego Island 1 and 2 for $4.95. I felt like I'd just unearthed the greatest find of the century... and I already had the original Lego Island disc.

Granted, haven't played Lego Island 2 yet... but ah, the days of Lego Island, Lego Chess, and Lego Loco (I wore that game into the GROUND)

[–]ipoopedthebed 0 points1 point ago

That fucking brickster was a dick. Didn't he unlock his cell with the pizza? That takes skill man.
