i just go along with it....no use in making a scene

Same here. I'm not comfortable with actually saying a prayer, our doing a blessing before a meal, but I'll gladly bow my head and go along with it. No need to make a big deal out of something so trivial.

my dad is "agnostic" basically atheist and he just sits silent. You don't have to cause a scene just don't go along with it. Not really a big deal unless you're closet atheist and there is something on the line.

My family does this too, generally I just start eating, they probably get offended but I think its pretty funny.

They did a prayer at my commencement ceremony this past Saturday. It was interesting to look around and see who kept their eyes closed and heads bowed. It was basically a 60/40 split in favor of prayer which kind of surprised me.

My Southern Baptist uncle (who is well aware that I am vehemently opposed to his theology) always asks very pointedly whether I wouldn't like to lead the prayer. I always politely decline, then also politely decline to bow my head, close my eyes or in some cases stop eating.

Grand Toreno(excuse my spelling) such a funny movie. And I know your pain, my family is the only one that doesn't pray during gatherings
