I like to assume that the person under his desk broke in when he wasn't there and left the computer ready to start the screamer with one click. Curiosity gets the best of him and he clicks it to start.

And that he is actually a paraplegic, named Jeffery, and doesn't realize he is on his feet until he is sprinting down the sidewalk two blocks away.

He is overcome with joy and realizes that it must have been Samantha under the desk. The love of his life who has stuck with him through his injury.

He runs back home and swings the door open to embrace her as a whole man once again.

Only to find her lifeless body lying with blood running from a large gash in the side of the mask she still wears, a bloody lamp next to her. Seeing what he has done, he is over come with grief and falls to the floor, his legs are numb once again. With tears of sorrow streaming down his face and a scream of rage and despair he gives up on life. He reaches for a shard of glass from the broken lamp and with one last look at his beloved, he makes several deep gashes in his arms and sobs.

Just then, the body of Samantha starts to move. Slowly, but with purpose. She stands and turns to face him. Jeffery can't believe his eyes, but the damage to his wrists has been done and his vision is starting to dim. He struggles to say something, anything, but can not summon the strength. Samantha reaches for the mask and pulls it off and Jeffery's eyes go wide.

Standing over him is not Samantha, but his best friend Kyle, who has has been in love with Sam since they were all kids. Jeffery looks up, confused and desperate. Kyle knees down next to him, wiping away the fake blood from his head, "Don't worry Jeff, I'll take care of her in ways you never could." Jeff tries to reach for Kyle's neck but the life is quickly leaving his body and his arm barely move. "She'll find you here and think you just couldn't take the pain, the embarrassment, the shame any more and just put an end to it all. It'll be my shoulder she cries on, and it will take some time, but eventually, she will be mine.", Kyle smirks, "Do you remember the time in high school, long before you two were together, when I told you I was going to ask Samantha out? You just laughed and laughed. Then I pushed you out of your chair and you were so angry and said I over reacted?", Kyle says leaning in closer to Jeffery, "I have had to live every day of my life with you throwing it, her!, in my face..." Kyle stands and looks down at his friend, the last glints of light about to leave his eyes forever. "Overreacted? No...."

Kyle walks out of the room but stops in the doorway and turns back to Jeffery one last time, "No, my friend, this is a perfectly reasonable reaction".
