Technology is integrated into our life now, yes. Does this mean we are now all incompetent idiots who only know how to read a screen? I despise things like this. (this reminds me of this) But OP's link makes it seem like humanity was in a constant state of self-edification until the 21st century. Yes, there are changes in societal behavior with the integration of technology, but that doesn't mean we're going to become the people of "WALL-E."

Now, few will debate against improvements in medical technology as being bad for humanity. It could be, following social-darwinist views, saving those who were meant to die. Which some of you will agree with until it's personal. But in a general sense, advancements in medicine are considered good.

Computing. Just imagine a world where editing a typed document was virtually impossible. Now look at your cursor. So many more people are able to write more than just essays for school. They are given an easy medium for self expression through written word. And by extension, computing allows for even greater self expression through other mediums. And then, considering the internet, there is a great resource from which to learn.

Now, this ability for more to write and share is where we see that which scares us as a society. Those who wouldn't have the capacity to write their thoughts to be shared 30 years ago now have Facebook, with 1000 friends "eager" to hear about their frustrations at the grocery store.

Sure, there are a copious amount of bad examples to see, but they don't represent humanity as a whole. As a species, we continue to develop and edify our nature.

I actually believe we will go in a direction of the movies Surrogates.

If we look at it realistically and logically, the human brain is just a huge HDD of data, eventually we will have the technology to interact with that data, even perhaps save that data or transfer that data. By that time we would have created advanced enough robotics to be controlled by that data, then later on transfer that data into.

Eventually what we would have is a giant database, of rich people, who have the means to buy hosting for their lives, Living care-free, sexually and deviantly without care for real morality as their own mortality is not an object of hindrance in their judgment like religion has taught them. As well as you cannot do real damage to someones data, since it can be restored into a new unit.

Thus we would live in two worlds (which in a way we already are) the rich who would experience life with a new code of morality and ethics, and probably live in areas that are developed above other economic groups. (ie think of midgard from ff7) With medical advances, they would have much much longer lives, and less reasons for offspring. Allowing the socio economic group to be very controlled and precise.

And the poor, who would be forced to be the manual labor. Being controlled more and more by government and police to disallow the potential of assimilation into the rich society. & to stop any potential threat. They would also probably locked into sectors (think of that time currency movie with Justin Timberlake). They would either have the normal life spans, or even less as with new form of pollution and less allocated resources. Would also produce more offspring to maintain a livable household earning.

Now many of you might say why wouldn't everyone be equal and allowed the same benefits. Well in an ideal world with humans being perfect. It would be a very high chance of that. But since we are talking about potential reality, then humans require other humans to have less to really see that they have it good. If everyone was middle class, there would be no comparison as to judge your own lifestyle by. (greed / jealousy).
