When I was a kid, it blew my mind when I found out that when it's raining, it's not raining everywhere else. That the rain was only falling in a certain area, and you could travel a bit, and be outside of the rainfall.

At the time, it was like... learning about where I am in the world. That what happened to me, around me, wasn't happening everywhere else. In other places, completely different things were happening. It was a big change in perspective.

Nowadays, I get kind of the same feeling when I think about random people on the street and how they have completely separate lives than mine. Their current activities and decisions are completely unrelated to anything about me. It's just weird. They are a stranger to me, and to them, I'm just a stranger too.

One time I was flying, we passed over many cells of thunder and lightning storms. A solid 30 minutes in a plane that I was watching lightning originate and literally travel down to the ground - so much different than it looks from the ground. This picture reminded me of that. At the Cincinnati art museum there was a painting of a scene like this, where a rainstorm could be seen from afar, except it was in the desert. I stood there for a couple minutes trying to discern what it was, as it looked like a bunch of columns supporting a building (the rain being the columns and the clouds being the ceiling). I can't find the painting, but it was really cool.
