Saturdays. The Old Testament says Shabbat, Saturday, is the last day.

[–]mabonuob 1 point2 points ago

Oh no! I work on Saturdays! I'm doomed! O_O

I live and work in Manhattan... there's no such thing as a real day off here.

[–]kaaoticvengeance 2 points3 points ago

Came here to say that.

[–]smoke420potweed 3 points4 points ago

yeah i dont think it's considered work, plus i think it's sunday because jesus rose from the dead on a sunday. i wonder though would americans have weekends if it werent for the sabbath and the day of resurrection?

[–]kaaoticvengeance 2 points3 points ago

A fair point. But a much better question. Makes me wonder if we would work weekends... Meh. I'll chalk it up with the few other decent things Christianity has given us.

The sabbath was and is on saturday (well friday sundown to saturday sundown). Religious rituals on sunday stem from a separate celebration called the "lord's day" which has always been observed on a sunday and doesn't require abstaining from work. The separation was very clear in early christianity but today they are often confused to be a "switch" of the sabbath from saturday to sunday.

"MOST PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY RELIGIOUS ONES, NEVER READ THE FUCKING SCRIPTURE."

Yup, true story!

Your comment added literally nothing to this thread. Everything that you quoted was in caps from the previous post, making it nearly impossible to miss the first time.

No shit. Is that perhaps because I strongly agree with that statement? Sorry about the stick up your ass, I guess that makes you terribly sensitive to such things.

[–]Dudesan 2 points3 points ago

The sabbath runs from sunset friday to sunset saturday.

Even if the Bible doesn't allow it, priests wouldn't go to hell. They would simply sin. Sinning doesn't necessary mean going to hell in the Christian religion.

[–]Sahloknir74 1 point2 points ago

Which christian religion? there are about as many variations of it, as there are christians.

I actually asked my rabbi this once. My rabbi said that he was doing that because he wanted to. Like a hobby. He doesn't get paid for it, he just likes to do that in his spare time.

Relevant: Shabbat elevator

[–]trimeta 1 point2 points ago

Keep in mind, "not working" means "spending the day in contemplation and prayer." I'm pretty sure leading others in prayer would be seen as a good thing, not a bad thing.

[–]Sahloknir74 1 point2 points ago

except for that verse that says you're supposed to pray in private.

[–]darkangelx 1 point2 points ago

Originally it would have been Saturday.

[–]FapThenNap 1 point2 points ago

Actually, the Bible doesn't say to not work on Sunday's. The Pharisees made laws which made it illegal in a sense to work on the Sabbath, not Jesus, not God, the group of people which denied Jesus being the son of man and the son of God. If you people actually read the Bible, not everything is God's or Jesus' teachings, they are merely stories and parables of how life was back then and what occurred.

I thought of this like a month ago very good question

Remember people: The Old Testament no longer applies. That's why we hate gay people, because the old testament says to.

[–]wiz_witout 0 points1 point ago

You did it! You killed Christianity! Your honorary plaque is in the mail.

[–]TheCosmicWhale 0 points1 point ago

They're not doing their own work, see. It's the lord's work. They're merely the vessel through which god works.

At my family's old synagogue, the Rabbi's contract very specifically said that he was only getting paid for work NOT during the Sabbath/holidays. Technically he was volunteering to come lead everyone in prayer and deliver a sermon because he wanted to help the community, and getting paid for things like running the Sunday school and leading other events.

Sadly, I don't think he ever tried not showing up and then claiming "but it doesn't say I have to in my contract," because that would have been hilarious.

I think the raping of little boys covers it.

[–]Haz_Matt 0 points1 point ago

NO! KEEP THEM! WE DON'T WANT THEM IN OUR AFTERLIFE SANCTUARY!

[–]Whitecloak 0 points1 point ago

Genuflect, genuflect, genuflect.

[–]knighmare -1 points0 points ago
