I saw the video a few days ago, the one that punches is actually trying to avoid conflict. He never turns his back though and I believe that when he senses the other guy is focused on something else neutralises him.

In fairness, the guy is about a foot taller than the kid and put his hand in the kid's face. It's hardly a sucker punch if the other person is putting his hand in your face and you hit them, more like self defense. Are you just gonna fucking sit there while they pretend to touch your face and wait for them to swing? No. You put your hand in my face in a confrontational manner and you're probably gonna get fucking hit.

Absolutely, i'm not saying it's right because we don't know the context here however if someone is approaching me, being threatening and seems threatening I won't wait for you to punch first. If you're going to be like that you gotta expect it or learn your lesson. I dropped a big guy just like that once, thought I was going to get a beating, one punch on the jaw and he dropped like a sack of bricks. I'm guessing big guys don't take a lot of beatings because they're intimidating and don't fight as often.

Just look at it from a legal standpoint. If you knock the guy out and he somehow busts open his skull from falling, you're in a lot more shit than you would be otherwise.

Self defense is never punishable unless you use excessive force. I.E. kick him in his face a few times while he is down.
