WELCOME TO /knittit! PLEASE DO:

Read the sidebar before posting. It matters.

Upvote valuable content, so it moves higher up the page where more knitters will see it.

Report misuse to the mods - and message us to tell us why.

Share what you love, learn, know, need.

HELP US STAY VIBRANT. PLEASE DON'T:

Post memes without considering this first.

Downvote knitting styles not to your taste, that's not how it works.

Link directly to for-profit sites or blogs. We're not here to build your traffic, karma, or cash flow. Sharing a great site you've found from inside a text post is fine.

If you want to ask something:

  • I can't decide what I want to knit!
    ...have you browsed Ravelry?

  • I know what I want, I just need a pattern!
    ...did you search Ravelry?

  • Um, I don't actually know how to knit yet?
...lots of us love KnittingHelp or Garnstudio for getting started or unstuck.

  • I know all the basics, but I've got this geeky question on an esoteric issue...
    ..."Ahh, so! Techknitter is thataway-->.

  • But, but, socks!"
...one favorite beginner sock pattern here,
...Silver's lovely complete sock class here

  • OK, I got all that, but I still want your opinions!

Cool! Goodness knows, we got'em!
But make sure you do a key-word search for recent threads first. For example:

"Stockinette+curl" / "beginner+video(book)" / "holes+why?"

If someone just asked a similar question, you won't get much of a response. Or we might get cranky.

If you want to show something:

  • Can I show you something I made?

Sure! Sharing and feedback are why we're here. Please include pattern info, and don't be surprised if you get both compliments and suggestions.

  • Can I show you something I'm selling?

You bet - if you label it "Shameless Self-Promotion" or are otherwise upfront.

We're happy to give you feedback and support on a commercial endeavor, but we're ALL makers here, not buyers. Please don't try to use /knittit as a way to increase your profit.

  • What about my blog?

Blogs are nice, but conversation
with fellow knitters is often nicer.

Tell us in your own words what you're up to, then include the blog link within the text. Direct links are often yanked by the spam filter and don't tend to generate much discussion anyway. Please don't try to use /knittit as a way to increase your traffic.

If you want to start something:

  • I have an idea for a group project -- is it ok to just post it?

Absolutely! This is the heart of what reddit is
all about - content is entirely user-generated.

Anyone can use /knittit for any worthy endeavor, as long as it's not for personal gain. Want to start a charity project or KAL? Make a post and see who signs on -- then head over to the Ravelry group for ongoing discussion, since the threads there are permanent and don't "age-off" the front page. Message the mods if you want a link on the sidebar.

Speaking of spam filters, what happened to my post?

The spam filter is sometimes a little moody. If you made a perfectly legit post and it isn't showing up, message the mods and we'll fish it back out.

!@#$% everything about this!

...although swearing at our knitting is a therapeutic and time-honored tradition, many of our regular posters open the front page in front of small children and picky bosses. Let's keep the saltier language out of the titles, shall we? Then let loose all we want inside the post?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned worsted for wear

[–]metasynthesthia 1 point2 points ago

It has been mentioned before already! Same with this one being a repost, I've seen it at least 4 times.

I live by this one

I like this.I've got my TARDIS bag (for when the Doctor comes for me, I won't have time to grab all my stuff) it's got my knitting, my phone and a tampon.

[–]bekito 2 points3 points ago

He'd have to sonic your phone in order for you to get reception in the other relative dimensions in space. I've got something similar, only it's a zombie survival bag.

Food & water for 3 days, two skeins of sock yarn, some circs, change of clothes, and a machete. Because you don't have to reload a machete.

[–]kendiefox 2 points3 points ago

Thanks for the reminder to update my zombie apocalypse bag! :) I haven't done it since I started knitting. (And now that hurricane season is upon us, I should be a little more prepared than I am at current.)

I've always been fond of Leonard.

[–]Astro_nauts_mum 1 point2 points ago

Love it! Thanks!

[–]thefeline[S] 6 points7 points ago

I also really love this one.

[–]madamerimbaud 1 point2 points ago

I posted that a few weeks ago on here. I'm glad people like it! :)

Knitprincess. Because the overused knitted spaghetti needs to die.

[–]thefeline[S] 0 points1 point ago

LOL that is so cute! I totally get it too.

[–]ElToroFuerte 0 points1 point ago

Start from the beginning. It just gets progressively more intense.

[–]thefeline[S] 0 points1 point ago

Will do! This is a great way to spend my Friday morning!

[–]sooza22 0 points1 point ago

Oh my god, I just killed half an hour looking through these! This one stands out...

[–]ElToroFuerte 0 points1 point ago

Bahahaha! It's been a loooong time since I've been through the comic. I actually hadn't looked in on it since January! That one's a good one, makes me giggle. :D

[–]hobbular 2 points3 points ago

I like this one. Not that I'm biased, or anything... >.>

[–]isthiscanon 1 point2 points ago

This is from Left Handed Toons. I suggest checking out their whole archive, I love this comic. :-)

[–]weffey 3 points4 points ago

I can not express how much I hate this comic. But I will not downvote because I want to see what other people have to offer.

[–]starcastic -1 points0 points ago

We've already seen.

Edit: It's not showing the countless times it's been on r/knitting, because they don't index this sub.

[–]pomelo 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, it feels like it's at least the fourth time within just a few months someone's reposted it, but I do like how the OP opened it up with discussion instead of just posting the comic. Sadly I think all of my favorite internet comics revolve around cats and anthropomorphised countries. Time to see what everyone else has posted here!

Click on the "r/knitting" that shows up. It's not indexed.

It's likely to be showing that one, because I put in this post to see how many times it had been posted in the past.

[–]llewyrr 0 points1 point ago

This always cracks me up.
