In the latest episode, they made a pathetic attempt at a conversation for the first time in two years. Their relationship is very sad.

[–]Psythik 31 points32 points ago

[–]Swatman 4 points5 points ago

I fuckin lol'd

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

Man that video is from 2006... that shit is 6 years ago... makes me feel fucking old :(

[–]senorrawr -1 points0 points ago

YEAHHH MAGNITUDE!!! WOOOOOOOOO

[–]serviceenginesoon 0 points1 point ago

Literally laughed, and it echoed

[–]EmperorSofa 64 points65 points ago

I was under the impression that they just played it up for the cameras.

[–]TrollyMcTrollster 20 points21 points ago

I can tell it's real, I've worked with my dad for years, and I've been there. We once had a fight about a customer's order but it turned into bringing a lot of personal shit out. I can't tell you how many times I've quit, just to come back the next day like nothing happened.

[–]furmundacheese 9 points10 points ago

I just posted something similar a few comments down. Working with a Dad is tough. Most of the arguments are pride-filled, which is a huge obstacle. I have to keep in mind every single day that he created the company, and while I may have better ideas, it's still his baby until he lets it go.

[–]TrollyMcTrollster 5 points6 points ago

Oh man, he gets pissed when I bring up the time his business went under and we became partners. It's "his" business but all the ideas, websites, accounts are mine. We went from being a physical business to an online store, but it was all because of me. I work here but I do my own thing so we keep "his" company separate and I just "help". Technically I'm not even an employee.

[–]furmundacheese 1 point2 points ago

Maybe all the stories are the same because this is eerily similar. We've had arguments about me bringing his company back from the dead etc.

[–]blixxx 0 points1 point ago

and he will never let go.

[–]XtremelyNiceRedditor 1 point2 points ago

its called doing the constanza

[–]blixxx -1 points0 points ago

same here. I once quitted and went to australia for 3 months :) Sometimes it's not easy...

[–]shitterplug 2 points3 points ago

No, it's legit. The lawsuits are also legit. The producers would love for them to get back together, filming the way it is now is apparently an expensive nightmare.

[–]EmperorSofa 1 point2 points ago

What lawsuits?

edit: Oh Christ these people are petty.

[–]preske 2 points3 points ago

Senior wants to buy the shares from Junior. Junior says, "ok how much are they worth?" Senior says "Nothing".

[–]lynxz 1 point2 points ago

Anyone who ever spends an extended period of time around a stubborn father can tell you this shit is pretty real.. My dad and I would explode similarly to how they do - it's just two stubborn assholes going at it.

[–]640x480 5 points6 points ago

I'm sure their relationship is fine and they're laughing all the way to the bank. Reality TV is like a soap opera, except they don't have to pay real actors or scriptwriters.

[–]negative_discourse 22 points23 points ago

Some people are capable of identifying genuine interactions, you and all your upvoters are not among them.

[–]640x480 0 points1 point ago

Nah, I'm just a cynic and I don't watch the show.

[–]namfonos 1 point2 points ago

I get the feeling that this is not actually how the conversation went.

[–]smeaglelovesmaster 15 points16 points ago

douche bag feedback loop.

[–]Grilled_Meats 3 points4 points ago

You get on an elevator, SimTower style, and ride up to the 30th-floor lobby. You'll need to transfer in order to get to your job on the 73rd floor.

Unfortunately, there are only 4 elevators from this point. 3 of them are out of commission this morning - the fire department is doing a training exercise.

You walk over to the open doors of the elevator that will take you to your floor, and overhear a man's voice saying "88th floor, son."

You round the corner and face the pair of Pauls. You almost stumble, as you grow weak in the knees with repentance, as the power(s)-that-be have never before sent you such a clear message of their displeasure with your deeds.

You start thinking about the girl you bagged on Saturday night. You were pretty scummy to her Sunday morning.

You think about your grandma asking you to come for dinner Sunday night, but you decided to cancel on her and go play poker with your buddies.

And before you know it, the doors close and you're stuck in an elevator with the 2 Pauls. You remember that, for your own security, you stole the pepper spray out of that chick's purse Saturday night before you took her home. The can is in the inside pocket of your jacket.

You reach in for it, and give it a little shake. There's not going to be enough for thorough coverage. You're only going to be able to hit one of them in the eyes.

Which guy gets the pepper spray? How will the other one react? What would happen?! Would you still be a "Yes," for the 11 AM conference call with HQ in Taipei?

[–]MJZMan 7 points8 points ago

You have to understand, when you work with family, it's just like that.

[–]TrollyMcTrollster 5 points6 points ago

I work with family, and have quit and gone home about 124302350243 times, but im still here...

[–]MJZMan 3 points4 points ago

Exactly. And I've been fired about twice that.

[–]LupoAS 47 points48 points ago

It's sad how much of an ass Paul Sr. is to his kids.

[–]furmundacheese 18 points19 points ago

I'm in business with my Father who is about the same age as Paul Sr. and they both grew up in the same region, and I can tell you that it's probably pretty authentic. I'm not sure what it is about his upbringing, but he cannot separate anger and being right from the actual right thing. It's sad to watch that show sometimes and see Paul Sr. do exactly what my dad would do in a blind rage. Deep down he cares a lot, but he thinks it's a weakness to come to terms with your kids if you have to go to their side, and damn it that's unacceptable. I'm not sure if it was just the way they were raised in NY in the 50's. Don't get me wrong, I really love my father, but I'm glad that that sentiment is on it's way out with that generation. He's set to retire in Jan of 2014, so I just have to keep the peace till then.

[–]LupoAS 3 points4 points ago

Best wishes for you and your family.

[–]furmundacheese 2 points3 points ago

Thanks, I appreciate that. All in all, it's a gift that I am able to spend a lot of time with him, but I think family is best left out of business. I know there are cases to the contrary, but it takes a really specially family to be able to handle it.

[–]DasHuhn 1 point2 points ago

It also REALLY REALLY depends on the business. My dad owns an accounting firm, I've been being groomed to buy him out for years now, all of the clients know what's going on, and we've gotten into some pretty big fights when I was younger. Then I moved out, went out on my own - got a job in the same industry, working for someone else. I came back home and my dad was in a bind these last few weeks so I worked for him, and none of the old shit that used to happen did.

Family in any business is difficult, especially if he's always owned it, and you've always worked there, because he owned it and you wanted to get into 'the family business'. Working for someone else gives you a point of view you've never had - suddenly many of the decisions my dad made make sense to me. I would have made the exact same decisions. Sometimes I think he's really silly and he should run.

On the other hand he's also one of the few area firms who not only have done well in this recession, have shown significant growths in all areas of the business. My dad has an absolutely astonishing amount of knowledge that I used to think was "good", but now know how good it is. I don't know many accountants who can sit down and do a tax return in their head - regardless of the complications - and be within $25 bucks of the actual tax due in under 3 minutes. Out of the 500 returns we did when I last worked for him, I believe 3 of them were off by greater than $25, and that's because we found out dependents were in college and got that nice AOC money.

[–]furmundacheese 0 points1 point ago

It's great when you can really respect the man, which I do in my case but it's more complicated than normal. My dad is a brilliant guy but he suffers from Einstein syndrome, meaning that he's absolutely brilliant but he lacks interpersonal skills and basic social concepts. Couple this with extreme ADD and it turns this into a situation where I have to second guess everything to ensure he isn't making a rash decision that only he understands. Also to expand on your statement about working elsewhere, I found that to be positive, but it also taught me that some of his concepts are not sound business practice. It doesn't help that I've always been a bit arrogant about my talents and skills, so I definitely need to work on being humbled by his abilities. I should also mention that my mother has worked there for 22 years, and that company has essentially ruined their marriage. They've been unhappily married for 22 of the 26 years together. This is why I'm so quick to push them out, because they still have time to fix the relationship problems that the company caused. Anyhow, I'm fortunate for this opportunity but it's come at a really emotionally draining cost. I'm curious, you mentioned you came back to work over the summer but also that your groomed to buy him out. I don't understand the time line. How long have you actually worked there since you came back?

[–]DasHuhn 0 points1 point ago

Yah, my dad makes a bunch of silly business mistakes too. Not so much mistakes, as.. well, since I've been back, he bought a $7K server instead of a $3K server which would have met his needs just as well, just so that he's covered in case he needs that more power in 12 or 14 years. You shouldn't buy hardware 14 years out, that stuff changes WAY too fast. He also doesn't market himself, doesn't get active in the community, etc.

Heh - I totally get the family aspect. My dad started his business in 81 - my folks got married in 72 because this is their 40th. My mom started working there PT in 83, went back to college to become an accountant, even though she HATES it, so that the business could thrive - my mom was doing more in a 20 hour week, not trained as an accountant, as an accountant + clerk was doing in 55ish/week or so. My mom resents my dad a touch for it, but on the other hand she only works 15-20 hours a week, has never really wanted for much (they have a comfortable life style). I lucked out because while my mom doesn't like the business, and they don't really "talk" much, they do love each other, and it's waaay evident now that us kids are grown and out of the house, and they're making an extra 6 figures a year. They go on dates 2-4 times a week, don't talk (much) work at home anymore, go on vacations together, etc. We deal with a LOT of other small businesses - it's the #1 thing that makes me realize that when I take over, my wife WILL work somewhere else. way too many marriages get complicated quick because of always seeing each other.

As for the timeline, I started being groomed to take over in 2006, I worked closely with my dad from 06-10, then moved out. Came back 3 weeks ago, and have worked 70ish hour weeks or so, high stress, high volume weeks. It's not quite the same, and I think some things would boil back - but uually the high stress / high volume weeks is when we'd have knock out screaming fights a few times a week. I've also matured - a lot - since then. I'm on my way to getting my enrolled agent right now (consistently passing 1 out of 3 tests) so that when my dad retires (either '14 or '16, he's not sure which) I'll have that on my resume, since I won't be able to have CPA there. I hope your parents relationship gets better - and I hope we're able to both appreciate the things our families have done well, recognize what they didn't, and improve upon everything as a whole. I feel a lot of weight on my shoulders with "If the business doesn't do well, your parents are TOTALLY FUCKED with retirement, GOOD LUCK!" but, I'm confident I'll do great.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

i was just watching the movie ragging bull and Jesus Christ if that's how they also treated their wives in the 50's im glad we've moved past that.

[–]furmundacheese 2 points3 points ago

I feel that haha. Madmen opened my eyes to that, even though it takes place in the 60's it's the same idea.

[–]Slidin_stop 1 point2 points ago

I was lucky that I never had such a contentious relationship with my dad. Maybe because I was third generation. I sure do miss him since he's gone. I'm glad we were on great terms when he died. Don't let your relationship deteriate that far, 'cause you never know when it's the last time... I used to watch Orange County Choppers with him and we'd kinda laugh nevously when they'd get to fighting. Can't watch it any more, though.

[–]preske 4 points5 points ago

To be fair, Jr. doesn't look all that great either.

But then I remember it's television and they only show what is interesting for the ratings.

[–]turtal46 15 points16 points ago

It's scripted.

[–]Person_On_The_Web 33 points34 points ago

It's sad how much of an ass Reddit is to its kids.

[–]AggieDem 29 points30 points ago

We're scripted.

[–]rus_reddit 20 points21 points ago

...Line?

[–]turtal46 27 points28 points ago

The line is:

"If you do this, then..." turns page ...ahh, here it is, "... fuck you!"

Your motivation:

Kittens.

[–]annoyinglyclever 0 points1 point ago

I thought my motivation was boobs?

[–]ummwut -1 points0 points ago

If you do what you just did, them FUCK YOU

[–]AggieDem 2 points3 points ago

You're the only one without a script.

Its the Rus_reddit Show.

[–]SphereofWreckening 3 points4 points ago

Why did you tell him!! Ok guys, shut it down, we had a good run. How many shows can last 8 years?

[–]thesandbar2 1 point2 points ago

Dr. Who

[–]Crytone 0 points1 point ago

I doubt it's scripted. Let's face it, they aren't top paid reality tv 'stars' (term used very loosely) by any means and their show was nearly cancelled a few seasons back. The show was, and always will be, a platform for the Teutuls (and the clients they build their 'theme bikes' for) to promote their businesses.

Would OCC be anything but a small time business without the show? Nope. Would Mikey have an art gallery? Hell no (Sorry, but the dude can't paint)!

If Sr comes off poorly (which he does in my opinion) it reflects badly on his business and he loses money in the end. That would lead to firing people, downsizing. etc... because I doubt he'd pump more of his personal money to keep it afloat and there's no way any of the shop hands at OCC get much for their reality tv appearances.

[–]lynxz -1 points0 points ago

yeah uh... about that.. the show is still going on.

[–]Crytone -1 points0 points ago

I did say "nearly cancelled", meaning it wasn't in the end. Well, actually if I want to get technical the original series American Chopper WAS cancelled by TLC and about 2 months later the new series Senior vs. Junior was announced. You can read about it here

[–]Tehkaiser -5 points-4 points ago

It's sad how anyone believes this is real.

[–]supergamerz 6 points7 points ago

[–]Pak-O 2 points3 points ago

I don't know why I found it hilarious when the cameras just kept on cutting back and forth to the both of them tossing and kicking things around the place.

[–]binarypower 0 points1 point ago

[–]TakeyoMedicine 18 points19 points ago

Next up in Discovery's "Large angry men do things" series: "Large angry men redecorate offices!"

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

So why do they hate each other again?

[–]Lecks 18 points19 points ago

Lack of impulse control passed on genetically from one to the other.

[–]fish500 12 points13 points ago

Because they're both assholes.

[–]Atomic_elephant 2 points3 points ago

Paul Jr feels insecure around Paul Sr's mustache.

[–]Dutchforce 12 points13 points ago

I've only seen the show one or twice but those pictures seem pretty accurate. The show is as much about motorcycles as it is about their dysfunctional relationship

[–]Bass2Mouth 22 points23 points ago

So you're saying it has a lot to do with motorcycles?

[–]dirtydan23 3 points4 points ago

This show used to be about building motorcycles. Now all I see when previews come on tv all I see is a plug for a dysfunctional family drama tv show. To anyone who watches the show regularly are my observations correct?

[–]MightyMorph 4 points5 points ago

yeah i used to watch the show earlier when it started and it was fun seeing the bike be built and such, that was what i wanted to see. But then they went more and more into the drama, and i just didn't watch it anymore. If i want to see a dad and son fighting each other, il just spend more than 20 minutes with my dad.

[–]basec0m 3 points4 points ago

Stopped watching after they dumped Vince... will never go back.

[–]Slidin_stop 1 point2 points ago

Damn, I didn't even know that.

[–]gurboura 1 point2 points ago

Vince is back with Paul Jr.

Mikey is gone though.

[–]basec0m 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, caught that in one of the ads they play. That move turned me off to the show forever though.

[–]gurboura 1 point2 points ago

You aren't missing much.

[–]h83r 2 points3 points ago

I hate this show now. I just want to watch these dudes build some awesome bikes, and instead it's 30 minutes if them talking about their personal problems and then 10 mins of bike building and 20 mins of commercials.

They've had the cameras following them for too long

[–]zeug666 2 points3 points ago

Soap Opera: Man Edition

[–]futuramaguy07 0 points1 point ago

This has been pointed out to me by all of my girlfriends that have watched the show with me, I do not disagree. I do not change the channel either, because it is better than 99% of the shit I would end up watching anyway.

[–]Kracus 3 points4 points ago

I forget his son's name is he Paul Jr? Anyway, I saw his wife the other day and my jaw fucking dropped, smoking hot.

[–]post_post_modernism 8 points9 points ago

IT'S NOT HOT!

[–]BusinessCasualty 7 points8 points ago

Almost looks like a certain giant bird...

[–]n00dleb00tz 0 points1 point ago

MERRHHHHH

p.s. sorry for the shitty link, I couldn't find the clip on youtube. sniffle

[–]scamperly 5 points6 points ago

That picture is just... wow. Ridiculously unphotogenic couple?

[–]TrollyMcTrollster 1 point2 points ago

You know, I think it's the angle but she's reallly hot.

[–]tracerghost00 1 point2 points ago

not to me she seems a little too country for me when i'm more rock and roll...

[–]scamperly 0 points1 point ago

Probably, I just think this was an example of two people overly done up (his hair looks awful) and posing awkwardly for a photo.

[–]Duramax159 0 points1 point ago

Nobody can rock the short hair mohawk.

[–]scamperly 0 points1 point ago

"fauxhawk" (pronounced fo-hawk, for all y'all americans)

[–]Kracus 0 points1 point ago

Yeah that's actually not hot, I saw her without all that makeup, she looks way better, like NOT a porn star.

[–]Salael 6 points7 points ago

Well, Paul Jr has money. So there ya go.

[–]Kracus 5 points6 points ago

First you get the money.

[–]Salael 5 points6 points ago

Then you get the sugar.

[–]Kracus -1 points0 points ago

you dissapoint me reddit...

Then you get the power.

Then you get the women.

Tony Montana.

[–]scamperly 8 points9 points ago

WRONG!

First you get the sugar.

Then you get the power.

Then you get the women.

Homer Simpson.

[–]Kracus 0 points1 point ago

Well technically I did start Tony's quote first :)

[–]scamperly 0 points1 point ago

Wait, when did we get onto the topic of iron man?

[–]Kracus 0 points1 point ago

If Tony Montana had an Armor suit that would have been a very different ending.

[–]scamperly 0 points1 point ago

His little friend would be a unibeam

[–]Salael 1 point2 points ago

Mine was a botched simpsons reference. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1198892/guarding_sugar/

[–]Kracus 0 points1 point ago

Ah cool, I never saw that one :)

[–]heebie 3 points4 points ago

such an old post

[–]CaptainLawless 1 point2 points ago

probably been reposted about 3 or 4 times but I'm not a dick about those things, I was actually looking for this and couldn't find it

[–]YosserHughes 1 point2 points ago

I wonder how they'd act if they knew they were on camera?

[–]zalapa89 1 point2 points ago

Paul Sr. married Paula and then they gave birth to Paul Jr.

[–]Jehps 3 points4 points ago

So apparently the process of making a motorcycle involves a lot of yelling and chair throwing..

[–]fireinthesky7 6 points7 points ago

Clearly you've never done a valve adjustment on a motorcycle.

[–]holeycrap 2 points3 points ago

Or changed an endless cam chain, or bled a new front master cylinder.

[–]fireinthesky7 1 point2 points ago

Oh, don't even get me started on the brake bleeding procedure for my VFR800. It's convinced me that linked brakes are a terrible idea.

[–]preske 0 points1 point ago

and cutting out the logo and placing it on the tank.

[–]Kombat_Wombat 0 points1 point ago

What is this show?

[–]Kratzyyy 0 points1 point ago

American Chopper.

[–]lynxz 0 points1 point ago

American Chopper - Also currently known as American Chopper: Junior Vs Senior

[–]ballstatemarine -1 points0 points ago

Stupid.

[–]thetruth323 0 points1 point ago

Just dumb, who cares really

[–]EpicSauceNStuff 0 points1 point ago

Lol.

[–]VagTeeth 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why but this had me laughing for quite awhile.

[–]MizadChizad 0 points1 point ago

These two are a textbook example of why not to go into business with your family.

[–]preske 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one that is kinda bummed how Mikey turned out? I watched the show for mikey (and vince, they were golden together).

[–]hobofats 0 points1 point ago

The drama in this show is about as real as pro wrestling.
