bad javascript.

look, even jesus died, but he rose again.

[–]TheTalentedAmateur 78 points79 points ago

Yes, but the reboot took three days and Tech Support from God.

[–]Thewhitebread 26 points27 points ago

"Did you unplug it and plug it back in? The power switch is on right? Shit."

[–]HeatSlinger 1 point2 points ago

So this is how it works!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

Like Google Chrome, Gandalf died once too, but he returned from death as The White Wizard.

[–]Brobi-Wan 1 point2 points ago

But, it was the truest web browser!

[–]neduil 1 point2 points ago

Yeah. He really nailed across the web.

[–]CoriJane 15 points16 points ago

How I feel when Chrome chrashes on me.

FTFY

Honestly, anytime I try streaming anything on this thing and have to lock my laptop, as soon as I come back my laptop goes full exorcist on me.

[–]ggalitz 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, chrome definitely has crash bugs with waking up from sleep mode. I've had pages turn black and audio get stuck while chrome noms up all the CPU cores when waking my macbook pro from sleep mode.

[–]clonedcheeseburger -1 points0 points ago

macbook

There's your problem.

[–]sendpwrend 0 points1 point ago

I haven't shut down my macbook and regularly have 20+ tabs open. I never had this problem.

10.7.4

[–]halloni 1 point2 points ago

Not trying to sit on a high horse or anything but I feel the same about mine. But hey, I'm sure apple is the devil and what not.

[–]ggalitz 0 points1 point ago

You must be new here, it has problems on all OSes.

[–]abom420 -1 points0 points ago

PC user here, damn near everyday I open my computer with over 10-20 tabs of info I am saving from last session. Havn't had a crash in a few years.

Funny thing is only thing that freezes is reddit, I get some "Oops!" message from chrome, refresh, and the front page is new and working.

I HATE CHROME BOOKMARKS. if you work at Google, Fix this. Sick of entire folders deleting when they are too full. Some of us have too much information.

[–]ajaxanon 1 point2 points ago

have you tried pressing ctrl shift B? just wondering because I could never have made the switch from FF without ctrl shift B.

[–]abom420 -1 points0 points ago

Dear god, months of trying to find the right keys. Been opening manager when I need to bookmark. Thank you.

[–]ajaxanon 0 points1 point ago

it's really not intuitive to know how to do that.

Once you familiarize yourself with the little website icons though, you can have a long string of bookmarks with just their little icons showing and no text ;)

[–]LeftoverBoots 39 points40 points ago

Jesus Christ. You know you've been surfing on reddit too long when you predict that exact caption before the image loaded.

[–]rspeed 8 points9 points ago

That's also a pretty good indication that you need a faster internet connection.

[–]jjness 1 point2 points ago

You wouldn't have this problem if you clicked "View Images" in Reddit Enhancement Suite!

[–]inferior_troll 3 points4 points ago

You know what is scarier? When I saw the title, I knew what image it would be AND the caption (well figuring out the caption after guessing the image wasn't hard). Came here to see if anyone else experienced this.

[–]metrognome64 0 points1 point ago

My husband and I like to play "Guess the top comment." We're surprisingly/sadly pretty good at it.

[–]Yac3 10 points11 points ago

Happened to me today. I think Safari got jealous.

[–]Purple_Drank 32 points33 points ago

I have problems with Chrome randomly not working. Started a couple months ago, and I don't know why it's doing it. I'm starting to get really upset since I found out it was chrome's fault instead of my internet's. I'm about to uninstall and use a different browser. But I like it so much I'm really reluctant to actually pull the plug :(

[–]SoggyCheez 8 points9 points ago

I have to admit the quick search is pretty damn helpful.

[–]CoriJane 17 points18 points ago

It was SO good there for a while. I honestly don't know what happened. I'm thinking that I might have to switch to Firefox, just for my sanity's sake.

[–]mirex0_0 5 points6 points ago

A few years back, Firefox would just randomly crash. Now, I don't remember having a single crash in the last 6 months.

[–]Zolty 4 points5 points ago

Have you tried uninstalling chrome and reinstalling it?

[–]Purple_Drank 3 points4 points ago

Doesn't fix it.

[–]spazmodic- 2 points3 points ago

have you tried a boot-cd based memory test? Other symptoms of bad ram are corrupted downloads and file copies.

[–]Purple_Drank 2 points3 points ago

Haven't tried that, but honestly that doesn't sound like my problem. I've read about other users having the same problem where chrome will randomly not load pages for a short amount of time. One user mentioned it started after he did a registry clean, which I did that as well but it didn't start until a few months after that.

[–]cbdckr 2 points3 points ago

Does it happen when you're watching youtube? Because mine does and I think it's because Java or flash whatever youtube uses isn't updated on my pc so check that out and see if that's your problem

[–]Purple_Drank 1 point2 points ago

it happens intermittently. Most of the time it just won't load pages.

[–]justchilln 1 point2 points ago

THIS, my whole page goes white and I have to view the background pages and kill the GPU process to get it back. The page goes white and plays only the audio of the video.. just started happening.

[–]zhylo 0 points1 point ago

For me, it randomly chooses to lock up after the youtube-video page fully loads, about 1 or 3 seconds into the video, Chrome freezes, and sound can be heard for as long as there were buffer before it locked up.

Ninjaedit: This happens about 0.4% of the time, but I still have to kill the process.

[–]AndrewNeo 0 points1 point ago

Did you delete your profile after uninstalling? I don't remember if that's an option in the uninstall menu or not.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

A little bit ahead of you on that one. I switched back to Firefox. I must say, the Firefox programming community really improved themselves ever since I switched to chrome years ago. I am not saying that Firefox works 100% without errors, but it works pretty flawlessly. Plus, the great amount of Add-ons are another big plus too.

[–]thesoppywanker 0 points1 point ago

Have you tried uninstalling it and scrubbing all the residual folders and files off your computer? There are other options, just sayin'.

[–]Purple_Drank 0 points1 point ago

Haven't done that, but I'm willing to try anything once if it'll fix my issue.

[–]Purple_Drank 0 points1 point ago

I'll try this, thanks!

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

Why do you think it's chrome's fault? It seems to be phenomenal for the rest of the world.

[–]Purple_Drank 0 points1 point ago

Because I know it's not my internet's fault. I've been on skype video chat or teamspeak or another program that requires internet connection, and still maintain my connection when chrome won't load pages. It's very frustrating.

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

If it isn't your internet I'd say it's probably your computer. Chrome is pretty much flawless for the vast majority of people.

[–]jjness 0 points1 point ago

Lately my Chrome seemed to forget my settings for New Tab, and instead would show About:Blank. I don't know if I somehow fumbled a keyboard command or two, but it changed on all 4 of the computers I use Chrome at (synced account).

[–]jsmayne -1 points0 points ago

have you tried Chromium?

seems a lot more stable than chrome

except it really doesn't like copyrighted youtubes. so i use ff for those

[–]whoputsandinmymouth 5 points6 points ago

Chrome crashes just every 2 or 3 hours for me.

[–]00fordmc 10 points11 points ago

Firefox

[–]Watabou90 3 points4 points ago

Firefox is getting seriously good. I use their Nightly and in the two months that I have been using it, I have had a total of 1 crash. Honestly. On a development version of the browser.

You guys gotta try Firefox again. It's fantastic.

I still have Chrome though. It now serves as my porn browser.

[–]00fordmc 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit that's brilliant....

[–]Nitro187 -1 points0 points ago

Nice try Firefox PR team...

[–]Taibo -2 points-1 points ago

I want to switch back to Firefox, I really do, just for the whole open-source angle. But christ everytime I boot it up it just feels sooo slow. You'd think with all the info Google is supposedly collecting on me they wouldn't be so speedy.

[–]00fordmc 0 points1 point ago

Manage the settings and plugins, and make sure you're up to date.

[–]aesamattki -1 points0 points ago

Chrome is open source.

[–]Taibo 0 points1 point ago

Chromium, but I'm pretty sure the actual Google Chrome is closed, no?

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

Yes, but the two are basically identical in every other way. So what's the difference?

[–]Taibo 0 points1 point ago

What are the differences between Chromium and Google Chrome?

You are right the differences are very minor, but some people worry about Google keeping track of their usage statistics, which is a fair concern (but not one I really care about personally).

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand the concern for that. The stats are all collected completely anonymously.

[–]imward 1 point2 points ago

what I don't get is that people think by switching browsers their information is not still getting collected in a multitude of other ways.

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

Exactly. And tons of other sites collect it too, not just google. I'm not paranoid about tech by any means, but Facebook is something I am concerned about. So many people complain about Google and yet go on Facebook all the time.

[–]smity_smiter 7 points8 points ago

I'm prepared for the shitstorm that's about to hail on me. "Chrome sucks", and I'm a developer.

[–]LordOfGummies 4 points5 points ago

I'm a software engineer and I agree. Not trying to start a debate, it's my personal opinion.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Reason? As a developer I highly respect the work that's gone into Chrome and the competition it added to the market.

[–]LordOfGummies 0 points1 point ago

Personal preference.

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

Why?

[–]smity_smiter -1 points0 points ago

  • I constantly use firebug (Firefox), then you turn to chrome, it's just terrible.
  • sometimes elements render incorrectly which appear fine on both ie(9) & firefox.

[–]boredandworking 2 points3 points ago

At least they have funny icons when it crashes!

[–]Trippybroski 2 points3 points ago

Ok my Chrome has been crashing with reddit and Facebook everyday for the past several weeks. Today the crashing was so often and so bad I had to resort to internet explorer for my internet needs... Anyone know what could be wrong?and yes my computer is plugged in.

[–]kim_so_il 2 points3 points ago

Did you turn it off and turn it back on?

[–]Trippybroski 0 points1 point ago

Several times in the past few weeks.

[–]Kilgannon_TheCrowing 2 points3 points ago

You resorted to IE and not the obvious alternative of Firefox? Dafuq is wrong with you?

[–]Trippybroski 0 points1 point ago

I didn't have firefox when it crashed. I had to use IE to download firefox. point is, I had to resort to IE. I shouldn't have had to do that EVER.

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

What computer and OS are you on?

[–]Trippybroski 0 points1 point ago

Asus Window 7

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

Have you tried disabling your plugins and experiments?

[–]Trippybroski 0 points1 point ago

Pretty often it says that skype and norton have crashed then when I put yes to shut them down, chrome works a bit better, but I don't see what those programs have to do with chrome.

[–]fuLc 2 points3 points ago

I recently started using chrome. Could someone explain to me why there are 8 different listing for chrome in my processes?

[–]cowpunter 8 points9 points ago

Each tab and gets its own process so if something goes wrong in one of the tabs it doesn't bring the whole browser down.

[–]fuLc 0 points1 point ago

That makes sense. The number is random I've noticed now. When I restarted chrome there were 7. Now I have 3 tabs and it's 6. -shrug- guess I'll just have to get used to it.

[–]rspeed 3 points4 points ago

It's not always directly related to the number of tabs, as processes are sometimes shared between tabs spawned from each other. You'll see this frequently with a process started for Reddit also containing pages in tabs you opened from the site.

There's also another process which is the browser itself (at least on OS X and Linux, I imagine it could be different for Windows).

If you want a better look at the processes, try "Task Manager" under Tools in the wrench menu.

[–]rytis 0 points1 point ago

Whoa, I didn't know this. Task Manager explains who's eating my resources! Thank-you so much for pointing something so obvious that I missed it. I may just keep this open all the time.

[–]not_really_that_fun 3 points4 points ago

God damnit reddit...knew it was that pic from reading the headline

[–]thisredditaccount 1 point2 points ago

FYI on windows you can click the X on the window instead of one of the two options and it just recovers itself, nothing lost.

[–]bos2bows 1 point2 points ago

I knew EXACTLY what meme that was going to be.

[–]03Titanium 1 point2 points ago

Flash always crashes on me. Turns out there's 3 different flash plugins for chrome. I have tried updating and trying each one individually but they all crash eventually. It's a shame cause chrome just works for me.

[–]TurquoiseCoyote 1 point2 points ago

Explorer crashes: not again! Why do they make us us this at school Chrome crashes: really? Blinks in disbelief

[–]frazier6567 1 point2 points ago

is it bad I predicted what the picture would be before I looked..

[–]Shippoyasha 1 point2 points ago

I miss the days when Firefox and Chrome never crashed even with a bazillion youtube links up.

Nowadays, Youtube/Flash murders my computer when I use it on Firefox and Chrome is getting slower with every update.

And I haven't used these browsers for long. This 'history' of mine with the browsers only goes back several years and it's like this.

[–]osakanone 1 point2 points ago

I'd like to know what on earth is going on behind the scenes.

[–]aesamattki 1 point2 points ago

YouTube should be moving to HTML5 video this year for compatible browsers.

[–]BallsackTBaghard 1 point2 points ago

The fucking flash plugin for chrome crashes all the time.

that is why I only use FF.

[–]Arlaine 2 points3 points ago

You were a templar, Jondar!

[–]HamletTheHamster 1 point2 points ago

Anybody else switch to Maxthon? found out about it because it did the best with html 5 according to this site

[–]zarthonia 2 points3 points ago

I loved maxthon back in my early computer days. I also liked k-meleon. I was disappointed that maxthon went with a hybrid engine when they jumped to a new series. It's also windows only.

I use all 3 OS's frequently, so I never bothered with it since.

Maxthon was great in the days where a lot of sites rendered better on trident, since a lot of the web dev at the time was done in IE.

Plus it had adblock. I don't think IE had a real adblock solution until later down the line.

[–]jsmayne 0 points1 point ago

doesn't run on Ubuntu

[–]RichieHawtin 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone else find that Chrome sort of freezes and won't load webpages? My laptop fan goes to full power and after about a minute of trying to load the browser just says "cannot load page" etc. This only started a month-ish ago. Doesn't happen on safari or firefox.

[–]imward 0 points1 point ago

try blocking out extensions, I've found ones that caused my browser to just shit out.

[–]RichieHawtin 0 points1 point ago

will try, thanks

[–]AtTheLeftThere 0 points1 point ago

FF > Chrome in most cases. Reddit is one of them.

[–]babbleon5 0 points1 point ago

Chrome's almost useless. I've got it installed, but FF is so much more resilient.

[–]tbonebullcrusher 0 points1 point ago

I upvoted simply because this is the greatest quote in the entire Star Wars series

[–]tracerghost00 0 points1 point ago

i just worded the font and boom.... i stay online too much..

[–]cynical_douche 0 points1 point ago

That's weird no thumbnail and I knew what it was going to be before I clicked on it.

[–]not_very_creative 0 points1 point ago

anybody else has problems browsing amazon on mac os chrome? empty pages mostly

[–]cowpunter 1 point2 points ago

I stuck with safari and used a sort of blacklist equivalent of the hosts file to get adblock functionality.

[–]DoctorMiracles 0 points1 point ago

Chrome experiments... 3D map sites... most video sites with no need for Flash... Chrome handles it all with ease on my systems.

But that damned Comedy Central site, damn, I can barely watch half a Daily Show episode and it hangs, it CRASHES hard.

[–]CountryMXBarbie 0 points1 point ago

I seriously thought I had screwed up my laptop. I was coincidentally uninstalling programs I don't use, running antivirus, and clearing everything out of my browser, and then I changed my theme on Chrome and suddenly nothing would load for about an hour.

[–]derpbrapbrap 0 points1 point ago

-no sandbox mode for me right now. couldn't get it to run any other way after a power outage =((

[–]feendish 0 points1 point ago

I feel you brah, have an upvote

[–]That_Scottish_Play 0 points1 point ago

Brassed off?

[–]ab103630 0 points1 point ago

"would you like to recover your window?"

[–]AnnoyingOptimist 0 points1 point ago

Build it, and they will come.

[–]jakobwahlberg 0 points1 point ago

Damn i just knew it would be that exact picture... wierd... great minds think alike!

[–]AnomalousX12 0 points1 point ago

I haven't laughed this hard from Reddit in so long. Well done.

[–]AmazingRealist 0 points1 point ago

Ewan McGregor is awesome, and this scene made me sad :(

[–]goomyman 0 points1 point ago

for the longest time it crashed when closing youtube videos.

They even admitted to the bug but couldnt find a fix for months it seems. I find this embarrassing since its their own site.

[–]CzechsMix 0 points1 point ago

fucking finally! I have no idea how many of these I saw on /new yesterday with "You were supposed to be the chosen one!"

[–]matchingcapes 0 points1 point ago

Anyone else use Opera?

[–]SunriseThunderboy 1 point2 points ago

I do, from way back when you had to pay for it. We are the 1%.

I heard a recent rumor that Facebook is thinking of buying Opera. I was crushed.

[–]osakanone 0 points1 point ago

Seems about right.

[–]snusamera 0 points1 point ago

That is so fucking spot on. I gave Chrome TWO chances to be my web browser for all eternity, and both times it eventually chrashed a bunch of times and pissed me off. Went back to Firefox and i havent looked back.

[–]unicycle_inc 0 points1 point ago

If you're havin' browser problems i feel bad for you son

I got 99 problems but my chrome ain't one

[–]starlinguk 0 points1 point ago

Did it crash your entire computer? I uninstalled Chrome after it did that to me 4 times in a row.

[–]moxiecontin714 0 points1 point ago

When I first downloaded Chrome when it came out, it crashed twice within ten minutes. True story.

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

Isn't it that just the tab will crash and chrome and the other tabs don't?

[–]ChubbieRooster 0 points1 point ago

I felt pretty cool guessing what the image would be before the image loaded on my phone.

[–]anonymizzle 0 points1 point ago

I actually LOLed at this

[–]tsilb 0 points1 point ago

At least when Chrome crashes, it doesn't take all its cookies with it. Also, it's usually Flash.

[–]I_WIN_DEAL_WITH_IT 0 points1 point ago

It crashes on me every so often (like 1 in 5 times) when I open a youtube video. The video plays for a few seconds, then the video freezes with the audio still going, then the whole window and all the tabs freeze and I have to end task it. Tried reinstalling chrome but the same thing happens. It never happens on my laptop or any other computer I use.

[–]Butterbaugh64 0 points1 point ago

you had ONE job. ONE JOB.

[–]ishalfdeaf 0 points1 point ago

Ah, but does it not give you the option to restore your tabs once you reopen it?

[–]APretentiousHipster 0 points1 point ago

I'll sing you an Opera about the greatest browser there is, but it would be sort of redundant.

[–]Damascius 0 points1 point ago

Firefox hasn't crashed on me in 3 years.

3 years.

It's the Luke to your Anakin.

[–]arkroyale 0 points1 point ago

My internet is fucked. Chrome is unable to load youtube videos and opera refuses to open facebook "see all messages"

[–]sesharine 0 points1 point ago

Christ, I know I've been on reddit too long now. I knew the picture before I hoverzoomed it.

[–]Jalhalla 0 points1 point ago

Chrome crashes on me all the time, but I have a mac.

[–]aesamattki 0 points1 point ago

I also have a mac and it has never crashed once...

[–]osakanone -1 points0 points ago

Yup.

[–]thesilentrebellion -1 points0 points ago

Chrome is great in many ways, but I have never had a browser crash so much. Not even back in the dark ages of IE in middle school.

[–]thesilentrebellion -1 points0 points ago

Actually. I lied. I don't think I've had the whole browser crash very often. I just get javascript errors and individual tabs pulling this crap on a fairly regular basis.

[–]NoSassScooter -1 points0 points ago

So how much porn did it take? I'd like to know, as I want to stay below failure level.

[–]uofmike 0 points1 point ago

porn, mlb.tv, and yahoo fantasy sports stat tracker... crashes like once a week for me

[–]Sowy -1 points0 points ago

pics or it didn't happen

[–]dr_pepper_ftw -1 points0 points ago

When Chrome started crashing on me I decided to give Firefox another chance. I'm glad I did because they fixed whatever problems they had a few versions back

[–]murfi -1 points0 points ago

i can already hear all the chrome-fanboys screaming "IMPOSSIBRU"

but yeah, chrome crashes on my system too every now and then. opera ftw.

[–]xdustx -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, I feel that, Chrome was the best browser ever, just love the bugger. Huge screen surface, fast loading (using a dual core turion slow laptop) and incognito browsing .... until they started to sneak html5 into me.

First i've noticed youtube videos were not loading as fast and 720p was not working fine. I've searched the web and it turns out youtube is automatically signing you in for the HTML5 trial. That's not nice, but it's ok, i've signed out of it.

Second it does it again ... still loading my videos in HTML5. I'm like Da foch ... . Turns out you need to go into the super advanced setting by going to the chrome://flags address and opt out.

Third ... still loads my effin videos in HTML5 ... why? why Chrome? you were my brother :(

[–]jmesaunders 1 point2 points ago

I find I prefer the HTML5 player to the flash player.

[–]xdustx 0 points1 point ago

On my home PC (Intel i7) I don't care but on my work laptop html5 is worse. Slower download, poorer perfomance (720p work just fine with flash and stumbles with html5).

[–]jmesaunders 0 points1 point ago

Something doesn't add up. I mean, I suppose because Flash on OS X is abysmal it's nice to not be using flash where possible. I really do love HTML5, I can't believe how far HTML5 has come, mainly saving my testicles.

[–]xdustx 0 points1 point ago

Well I also had trouble with flash, like keeping my CPU at over 90% or slowing my system after some hours but html5 makes problems from the start (as i already stated, downloads the video slower - so I have to click a youtube video and then wait for it to load, when I change resolution it does not react and I have to press F5 and the 720p videos move slower). I'm really up for the change but I dislike that they did not let me choose. Running Opera right now :)

[–]KibboKift -1 points0 points ago

Chrome crashes on me all the time. And it's not just one tab, I have to restart the whole program. Usually while watching a video. I normally have about 5-8 tabs open.

[–]d_r_benway -1 points0 points ago

I prefer to run a browser that doesn't send your personal data to google hq...

Firefox is a far more moral choice...

[–]Yoshisune -2 points-1 points ago

So when I clicked the link, it froze my Firefox, I thought maybe it was your link. I was wrong.

[–]thekylander -2 points-1 points ago

Yes, Chrome is the Messiah...but my up vote is solely based on your user name.

[–]Clint_Swift -2 points-1 points ago

i use rockmelt, never once had a problem with it

[–]ThisIsDK -2 points-1 points ago

I've been using Chrome for over 2 years, and it has crashed on me maybe 4 times.
