No kidding. At first I felt the kid (sorta) deserved it for hitting the cat. Then I watched the video and saw the cat was nibble-playing with the kid. The kid didn't know what was what though and started crying! What parent would let a cat that plays rough around a kid too young to understand what's going on?!? And I think the video, the woman in polish (?) says "hit him".

    Do you think it is hilarious when the cat is smacked by the child? Both attacks are equally upsetting if you watch the video. The cat attacks in self defense. The sobbing child, who I am guessing is about 3, is responding to 1) being hurt 2) being told to hit the cat by a parent. Children of this age also act partly on instinct and lots of what they don't do by instinct they do because they are instructed or taught by parents. I know Reddit isn't the most child friendly of places but I can't believe you actually find a child of that age being hurt funny.

    Also, I can't tell if the kid is laughing or crying in the beginning. If he's laughing, that's a dick move. If he's crying because the cat already mauled him, well, then someone needs to take care of their cat and kid better.

    I wasn't actually trying to convince you that the parents were going to hit him, but instead of egging him on and videotaping the damn thing, they could have- should have- removed either the cat or the child.

    It's hard for me to find humor in this gif, since it seems apparent to me that the kid didn't particularly want to hit the cat, and the cat obviously wasn't pleased with the situation either.

    Well if you watch the video that this gif is from you might get a different understanding of what's going on.

    The cat might be playing, but the kid is crying way before he hits the cat. The kid is in tears, and the parents are filming it like it's family-friendly fun. You can hear him sobbing. The kid wants to get away, but the parents won't do anything, so they tell him to hit the cat. She said 'stuknij go', which I think means 'hit him' in Polish.

    There's a difference between play claws and attack claws. Play clawing is done by kittens and young cats, and is a necessary part of them growing up (exactly like a human child). They typically outgrow it in adulthood if you don't encourage it. Before the kid hit it, the cat looked to be playing, slight claws and slight teeth, but still scary to a child. Post-hit, the cat defended itself more aggressively.
    You're right, the shit shouldn't fly. But it's the parents who should not be encouraging either the cat or the kid to be aggressively physical to each other. Both need to be trained. It's not the cats fault.

    I don't know why we're all assuming it's his parents. Responsible adults do not behave that way. Implying that vsolve wouldn't know any better since he was the kid.

    In the video the parents of the kid are egging them on, laughing at the kid and telling him to toughen up. The kid keeps trying to be rough with the cat and it lashes out at him, so the parents tell the kid to hit it. That's when the cat pounced his face.

    Cats are by no means incapable of the level of violence that dogs engage in when they attack humans cats just don't because they only do that with things they want to eat. Humans are a little big for that and would put up way too much resistance so the most you see is a swarm of claws and biting to get you to piss off.

    Cats can actually cause a surprising amount of damage when threatened. One of mine started freaking out because she got a string wrapped around her leg that was attached to a toy dragging behind her. She went into full panic mode. I didn't want her to hurt herself so I stupidly caught her to try and get the string off, and she sank her teeth and claws into any flesh she could reach. Beforehand, I had known this cat only as a vocal, attention-craving furbag of love. By the time she calmed down, my hand had puncture wounds from all her teeth and blood was running down my arm. I couldn't use my hand without intense pain for several days.

    That being said, I know she only did that because she felt threatened and is otherwise a ridiculously affectionate cat.

    i agree with that 100 percent. When I was a kid we had a cat that bit and hissed at everyone. since it was a tiny cat and didn't actually hurt anyone it was harmless for everyone. I hated that cat. My dog bites my dad one time and that dog was gone the next day.

    You need to watch the video that this gif came from.

    The kids parents are standing there yelling at the kid in polish to hit the cat while he sobs. They are laughing their asses off as their own kid is getting mauled, because they made him hit the cat. He obviously from the video does not want to hit the cat, they make him. Abuse.

    Also, most of these comments are about the parents needing to control the cat. That is a cats instinct. The thing that needs to be controlled is the child. And shame on the parents for letting the child take out his anger from not being able to touch the cats furry belly or whatever, by hitting. So yes, what the cat did might have been scary for the child but its not the cats fault in a sense. It is the child's for bringing up the reason for that cat to it.     Those parents are fucking idiots and clearly that cat has been poorly trained. The cat needs to be neutered. The kid is a little baby and the parents are irresponsible for letting a cat bite and scratch on their baby. The .gif gives an incomplete picture of what is going on here.
