[–]heathmainly 1150 points1151 points ago

If Obama gets elected, and there's a mass immigration of fundies, I'm moving down to the States.

[–]Nlelith 725 points726 points ago

Ah, the old political view switcharoo.

[–]Hounmlayn 207 points208 points ago

That'll work I think. All the sensible canadians will move to the states, and all the stupid people who will move if Obama is re-elected will move to canada and freeze in the name of God. Also JB will stay in Canada with him being a devout christian. Everything's good with the world if this happens

[–]TheInternetHivemind 371 points372 points ago

Then we nuke Canada to prevent it from spreading.

[–]TerribleLogician 247 points248 points ago

Everything in this comment thread checks out. I'm putting it in the planner.

[–]fadedspark 249 points250 points ago

But... But...

I like my country :( I don't want it nuked! Even if it becomes a fundie paradise...

Can't we just tell them the further north the go the safer they are from obamacare and gay marriage? They'll go right up there, and then just... disappear.

[–]pru_man 204 points205 points ago

Added bonus! Polar bears are in dire straights, what with the loss of traditional hunting grounds on the sea ice. So send the fundies north, they disappear, polar bears are well fed, and the world is a better place. IMHO.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]gak001 30 points31 points ago

Tell them it's polar bear repellant and was blessed by Jerry Falwell.

[–]phat_ 8 points9 points ago

They'll spit those fundies out right after a bite or two. Just like when Great White Sharks spit out humans after they attack.

A regular human is a tasty meal for a polar bear, but those fundies dine on fast food way too much. No sustenance.

[–]JohnJohnPhenomenon 2 points3 points ago

Wont work. It is known that Jesus was a gun nut, so every fundie has at least 2 guns per race-war-birthed child.

Right reddit? Pretty sure I read that on the daily kos.

[–]Evil1357 43 points44 points ago

Obama 2012!!

[–]kthoag 13 points14 points ago

Can we steal Canada's flag then? It's way cooler than the USA's.

[–]TheInternetHivemind 6 points7 points ago

Sure, but we have to change the leaf to a pot leaf.

[–]Sethex 13 points14 points ago

Canadian here, just give me a coded warning through the Reddit front page before the bombs fall. "Operation: Sane Exodus"

[–]RalphWasntHere 6 points7 points ago

Suddenly, Containment theory gains new relevancy.

[–]AndruRC 2 points3 points ago

As a Canadian, if that's what happens, I'm okay with this plan.

[–]Copperplate 4 points5 points ago

Like musical chairs, or a Chinese fire drill, but on a really massive scale.

[–]breathe_happy 93 points94 points ago

Well, if we can convince all fundies to go to Canada, that leaves us the U.S., and we have warm beaches'n shit. I like this plan.

[–]pyroman09 163 points164 points ago

Seriously, tell them it's their promised land. They fell for it last time.

[–]SensibleMadness 210 points211 points ago

Oh come on, how can you expect the same group of people to keep falling for the same nonsense over and over? It's like trying to tell generation after generation that their messiah is totally going to come back during their lifetime and expecting them to belie...you know, this plan just might work. Carry on.

[–]Miss_Bee 47 points48 points ago

Put it on toast, with a picture of white Jesus.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Naedlus 16 points17 points ago

Good idea... maybe we can narrow it down even...

"My chosen people, 'Axel Heiberg Island' is your promised land. I'll show up in person once you all get here. J"

[–]gak001 2 points3 points ago

Just send out an official-looking newsletter to all of those people who thought the rapture was going to happen last May. They'll get the word out.

[–]UncleOscar 2 points3 points ago

I present thee with an upvote.

[–]ShouldBeZZZ 7 points8 points ago

Canada would probably be a better option in the long run, you know with global warming and our abundant resources. So why not just come to Canada before the fundies do.

[–]KangFu 6 points7 points ago

Actually, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal etc are close to the border and have warm beaches nearby (especially with global warming eroding our winters).. only problem is the water is always ice freaking cold :-/

[–]Faaaabulous 2 points3 points ago

Hmm... tell me more about these hot bitches...

[–]thebballer25 64 points65 points ago

I'll invite you over for the baby feast that I'm planning.

[–]Fifty7Academics 91 points92 points ago

"The Bballer25's 3rd Annual Fourth-Trimester Abortion Party"

[–]rooktakesqueen 50 points51 points ago

"Fourth-Trimester Abortion Barbecue" has a better ring to it.

[–]iskivolkl 60 points61 points ago

Better yet, Aborbecue.

[–]von_douche 9 points10 points ago

Make sure to mention that there will be punch and pie. More people will come if they know there will be punch and pie!

[–]edlorenz7 2 points3 points ago

ah, the rare post-birth abortion. parents always threatened me with that one

[–]audiostatic82 20 points21 points ago

Don't worry, most fundies don't have the energy to do much more than hate people they don't like and vote.

I'm just hoping to spread out the crazy to reduce it's impact. It's like social pollution.

[–]Lj27 5 points6 points ago

Stupidity is like social pollution. Genius

[–]HenryDorsetCase 425 points426 points ago

I'll give you half a timbit, 6 pints of maple syrup and some day-old poutine if you keep yer faulty humans.

[–]SI_Bot 274 points275 points ago

SI conversions:(FAQ)

  • 6 pints = 3,400 ml

I'll give you half a timbit, 6 pints(3,400 ml) of maple syrup and some day-old poutine if you keep yer faulty humans.

[–]Cheese_Bits 212 points213 points ago

Somehow this added to the comedic effect.

[–]gg4465a 102 points103 points ago

3.4 liters, surely -- let's do our conversions appropriately.

[–]morbo1993 42 points43 points ago

Hopefully people are able to convert 3,400 ml to 3,4 l

[–]QuillRat 39 points40 points ago

SI though, SI!

[–]aVictorianGentleman 19 points20 points ago

The rest of the world uses a decimal point, not a comma, there Jacques-Pierre.

[–]feliperuas 4 points5 points ago

Not really. In Brazil we use a decimal comma and SI.

[–]Vaughn 1 point2 points ago

And Norway.

[–]BeholdMyGlory 2 points3 points ago

And pretty much the rest of mainland Europe and South America, as well as half of Asia (though Russia is a large part of that half, geographically speaking).

[–]davorzdralo 2 points3 points ago

Nope, the rest of the word uses comma, not point.

[–]Margatron 8 points9 points ago

How many pitchers of beer is that?

[–]shawn789 16 points17 points ago

None. It's maple syrup.

[–]SensibleMadness 28 points29 points ago

So does this imply that a timbit is already an SI measurement?

[–]Woofiny 23 points24 points ago

Anything from Tim Horton's is its own measurement!

[–]SybariticLegerity 2 points3 points ago

The TH system is well on its way to phasing out SI.

[–]RudeTurnip 8 points9 points ago

Should I feel proud, as a USian, that I know what a timbit is?

[–]jo42 9 points10 points ago

In less polite words:

Canada says "Republicantards Not Wanted Nor Welcome!"

[–]TheAmazingAsshole 15 points16 points ago

I love living in an American city that has Tim Hortons.

[–]vousetesbelles 7 points8 points ago

I thought the American ones weren't supposed to be nearly as good as the Canadian ones though?

[–]TheAmazingAsshole 5 points6 points ago

I've had Tim Hortons in a few Canadian places and its pretty much identical. A few varying items here and there though.

[–]shakamalaka 2 points3 points ago

Don't they have to explain what it is on the sign, too?

"Tim Hortons bake and coffee shop" or some bullshit?

[–]cynognathus 3 points4 points ago

Day-old poutine is still poutine. I'll take it.

[–]Zaramoth 359 points360 points ago

"45% atheist population" citation needed

[–]makinganotheraccount 230 points231 points ago

The 45% bit appears to be the pct change from '91-'01.

"No religious affiliation" hangs around 16%.

[–]shakamalaka 224 points225 points ago

I think it's probably higher than 16% in reality.

I've lived in Canada my entire life, and I can count the number of actual churchgoing people I know on one hand. A lot of people just put whatever religion their family is on the census, even if they don't go themselves.

"Yeah, I guess I went to a Catholic church when I was a kid and I was baptized and shit, so I'll say 'Catholic' for this question." That kind of attitude.

I'm 30 years old, and I am legitimately surprised whenever I meet someone my age or younger who is religious. Atheist is just the default assumption.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points ago

I don't think they're Atheists. There are a lot of people who don't practice their faith but still believe there is a god. I have many friends who are this way.

[–]Broolucks 12 points13 points ago

"Yeah, I guess I went to a Catholic church when I was a kid and I was baptized and shit, so I'll say 'Catholic' for this question." That kind of attitude.

My parents do this. I don't know if my father still does since I explained to him you can't really believe the Bible is a work of fiction and still be "Catholic". When you answer "Catholic", the statisticians assume you believe God exists - at best they'll invalidate the question for being completely uninformative.

[–]shakamalaka 9 points10 points ago

Lots of people do this. I find it happens moreso with non-Christian religions. I know plenty of atheists who would self-identify as "Jewish," for example, on a census form, because they consider themselves culturally Jewish but don't actually believe in all the god shit.

It skews the statistics, for sure.

[–]Broolucks 8 points9 points ago

They should probably just add an explicit "do you believe in God" question so that they can at least tell these categories apart.

[–]shakamalaka 2 points3 points ago

I don't even know if that would work, though. There are plenty of people who would just say "yeah, probably" and check "yes" without giving it a lot of thought, but those same people wouldn't consider themselves 'religious' by any means.

I don't know how you measure something like that.

[–]Broolucks 2 points3 points ago

Hmm... "do you care?"

[–]TimeZarg 122 points123 points ago

"Atheist is just the default assumption."

Which is how it ought to be with any modern society. . .but nooooo, we Americans have to deal with the backward bible-thumpers.

[–]beanso 11 points12 points ago

What about the people that are religious but keep it to themselves? I live in VT and I know a few people who believe in some higher power and would consider themselves religious, but outwardly are very rational people, and willing to make fun of organized religion.

I think the "formally religious" and the "quietly religious" cancel themselves out.

[–]meanreus 15 points16 points ago

Being raised in a Christian home, you clearly don't understand how the underground population of Christians work in Canada. There are a lot of them, they just don't openly identify themselves to anyone.

They're the people who do your laundry and cook your food and serve your dinner. They make your bed. They guard you while you sleep. They drive the ambulances. They direct your call. They are cooks and taxi drivers and they know everything about you. They process your insurance claims and credit card charges. They control every part of your life.

They are the middle children of history, raised by television to believe that someday they'll be angels, living in heaven forever, but they won't. And they're just learning this fact. So don't fuck with them.

[–]shakamalaka 2 points3 points ago

Thank you, Tyler.

[–]Andross- 14 points15 points ago

Came here to post this, now I'll just upvote.

EDIT: Also the USA has about 16% as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_USA#Main_religious_preferences_of_Americans

[–]GruesomeBalls 4 points5 points ago

There are about as many Americans who hold "traditional Canadian values" as there are total Canadians.

[–]BouquetofDicks 6 points7 points ago

And there are less Canadians living in the second largest country on earth NOT GALAXY than in the motherfucking greater Tokyo metropolitan area .

[–]Mcgyvr 40 points41 points ago

"No Religious Affiliation" according to our Census. So... semi-true.

EDIT: I'm retarded don't read this.

Further edit: it's actually 16.5% no religious affiliation, with a change of 45% from 1991.

[–]paul411 23 points24 points ago

. Number % % change (in numbers)
No Religious Affiliation 4,900,095 16.5 +44.2

The 44.2 is a % change.

[–]ShockedSystem 160 points161 points ago

45%? Are we even talking about the same country?

[–]tuktu 89 points90 points ago

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I'm a Canadian atheist myself but the country is certainly not 45% atheist. Even if most born-in-Canada people are atheist (not that I am suggesting that's true, I have no idea) we have so many immigrants from different walks of life and I'd wager that most of them bring their religion over with them.

Of course, I have no sources, just speculation. 45% seems like a wildly unlikely over-estimate.

[–]ShockedSystem 65 points66 points ago

I'm Canadian too. The exaggeration of our positive attributes in comparison to the States, while flattering, is kind of strange. Canada's not a perfect secular paradise by any means.

[–]Renholder86 67 points68 points ago

First generation Bangladeshi immigrant , came here after I was "Indoctrinated" supposedly in Islam at 5, 21 years later, Atheist to the core, it's amazing what an open intellectual environment, good education, and general Canadian awesomeness (and some would say bacon) can do for you.

[–]ShockedSystem 22 points23 points ago

Cool cool. I love Canada, and glad that it has that kind of effect on people. I just don't see why we get paraded as utopia.

Well, it might have something to do with our culture largely being built around Not Being America.

[–]TLDRName 2 points3 points ago

[–]corrects_with_regex 5 points6 points ago

Thank you for saying this. I believe there's a bit of grass-is-greener syndrome happening amongst US liberals. Having said that, I have never lived in the US and I'm not sure I would want to. Some of the things I've heard about that country make me wonder about their collective sanity.

[–]Borg_Chick 4 points5 points ago

Yes, I find it very scary that about half the people in this country (US) are blatantly insane and no one seems to really notice here, which in turn makes me wonder about the collective sanity of the other half.

[–]FoneTap 14 points15 points ago

Yes I would love a source.

Last I checked my province still had crucifix prominently displayed in the state legislature.

Yes some churches were converted into condos but on the other hand, we have a jackass mayor from a small town, repeatedly defying a court order to stop his daily opening prayer.

He is considered a hero and collected over $180k in donations to fight off the court orders, while the secular movement opposing him only collected about $20k.

[–]k2t-17 255 points256 points ago

I've never heard a right winger say they're moving to Canada.

[–]buckeyegold 258 points259 points ago

bro, its text on an image...it has to be true.

[–]TheWatersBurning 24 points25 points ago

Shh, this makes us feel big.

[–]learn2die101 43 points44 points ago

Im a canadian who lives in texas. The bible belt, i live on the edge of Texas' most conservative voting county.

When I was in Grade 10, Obama was up for election. In AP US History, I was talking to the guy who sat beside me about the election before class started. A girl in the class heard us and said with the straightest face I've ever seen that her parents were going to move her family to canada If Obama won the election.

I think I hurt her feelings because she was being serious, and I burst out laughing. I tried to explain why moing to Canada because Obama is too liberal was a bad idea; but, all that came out was jibberish mixed with laughter.

It was definitely an outlying attitude within teaparty members, but never popularized for obvious reasons.

[–]brbposting 6 points7 points ago

You're probably the only part of APUSH that she'll remember.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points ago

Source is another meme about Conservatives which referenced another meme about atheists. What more do you want?

[–]Lampmonster1 2 points3 points ago

I heard some idiot woman in a bar say she was moving to China because Obama was a communist during the last election. She knew what she was talking about too because "My dad knows all about politics, he's really smart and watches Bill O'Reilly and all that."

[–]PastyWhiteBoy 127 points128 points ago

If he doesn't get reelected I'll move to Canada how about that?

[–]buckeye-75 64 points65 points ago

I'm hoping that if Romney gets elected, we all get our own planet with a purchase of magic undies. I'll teach the people of my planet not to believe in me.

[–]MrVandalous 2 points3 points ago

I read that as magic fundies... It still fit well in context though.

[–]DanGleeballs 2 points3 points ago

Planets for boys only of course, it's in the book.

[–]TomCADK 16 points17 points ago

I think it's time to build a fence.

[–]AFlyingToaster 14 points15 points ago

That was my plan. Fuck Texas (I'm sorry), I'll move to Vancouver.

[–]WaitingForClients 14 points15 points ago

''I'm sorry'' You'll fit right in. Theres some maple syrup in your veins, son.

[–]MistahThorn 5 points6 points ago

I bleed maple syrup if you know what I'm talking aboot.

[–]bigmack_121 7 points8 points ago

you are a tree?

[–]stolarz88 4 points5 points ago

That's basically what I said about McCain too. Good thing I'm a Toronto Blue Jays fan, will make the transition easier.

[–]buckeye-75 298 points299 points ago

Shhhhhh. Don't tell them until they leave.

[–]Jroc1122 428 points429 points ago

No! Tell them, we don't want them.

[–]Sfdavidbest 112 points113 points ago

I know this makes me an asshole but I downvoted you because I really want them to leave. Consider this a test of your politeness.

[–]BennyGB 92 points93 points ago

Upvoted for "test of our politeness". But we can still be fierce, we live with fucking bears and wolves!

[–]drnc 119 points120 points ago

I hate it when wolves and bears fuck. It's like "Hey! Wolf! Bear! Quit fucking! I'm trying to sleep!" A test of politeness, indeed.

[–]Sfdavidbest 26 points27 points ago

You don't scare me. I live with a huge ferocious half wolf. Here he is preparing to eat a toddler whole. SFW

[–]Cheese_Bits 13 points14 points ago

Needs ketchup.

[–]blueseadragon 6 points7 points ago

D'awww!

[–]FlyingPandaMonkey 66 points67 points ago

Take Justin Bieber from us and we might consider it

[–]UnreasonableReasoner 5 points6 points ago

If we can throw in Nickelback wih Bieber it's a sealed deal.

[–]Badwolf582 2 points3 points ago

I'm sorry.

[–]BungaSlaney 2 points3 points ago

Scumbag Steve's will roam the streets.

[–]Painter22 2 points3 points ago

I Don't know what to do ! we could fuk with them and not tell them or we could tell them and say stay the fuk away.

[–]remton_asq 65 points66 points ago

I honestly have never heard anyone say that they are "moving to Canada if Obama is re-elected"

Are there actually people saying this in the USA?

[–]HoChiWaWa 29 points30 points ago

Yeah, I'm with you, it seems pretty illogical, even for the logically challenged.

[–]PIngp0NGMW 22 points23 points ago

Hmm. I suppose this is one way it might work.

  1. Obama re-elected.
  2. Fundies move to Canada (shudder).
  3. US "gets worse."
  4. Fundies claim that them leaving was the cause for the US to get worse (i.e., the US needs them as the chosen people of God or whatever it is Fundies believe).
  5. Fundies return to America to "fix it."

(6. Canada takes four generations to recover from the damage.)

[–]OneRomaines 5 points6 points ago

Haha, "logically challenged."

[–]silverfirexz 2 points3 points ago

My fundie older sister has said it, in the same breath that she rants about obamas crazy socialist agenda.

[–]smuggling_info 2 points3 points ago

This is one of the post were redditors want to believe that this is what's going on, but it's not..

[–]4ofN 197 points198 points ago

Oh god, oh god, oh god. No, no, no, noooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Tell them that we are secular and more atheist than the US. Please.

Perhaps they would be more comfortable in a theocracy. I understand that housing is cheap in Iran or Somalia or somewhere where they hold the Lord in high esteem.

[–]c0mrade_ethan 68 points69 points ago

I don't think they have housing in Somalia...

[–]makesnosenseatall 139 points140 points ago

They have pirateships.

[–]Furen 22 points23 points ago

Does that make Somalia the Promised Land for Pastafarians?

[–]idmb 19 points20 points ago

No, the FSM gospel distinguishes greatly between traditional REAL pirates, and these "pirates".

[–]PlatonicTroglodyte 20 points21 points ago

but...but...buttpirates!

[–]Faaaabulous 3 points4 points ago

Argh!! We be takin' ye booty!

[–]EnderbyEqualsD 16 points17 points ago

Awesome!

[–]spegeddy 4 points5 points ago

What you saying? Houseboat isn't a house?

[–]aringoswami 32 points33 points ago

To be fair, our Prime Minister has been called the "Canadian George Bush" by Michael Moore. Maybe by the time they get here, Canada will have changed? Purely hypothetical of course.

[–]improssible 37 points38 points ago

To be more fair, he's been called the Canadian George Bush by most of Canada.

[–]radi81 15 points16 points ago

Harper is definitely the most conservative PM we've had in some time, but I think he'd still be considered somewhat liberal in the policies he's enacted so far were he down south. And Harper is quickly losing ground to the NDP with the continuous scandals - at best right now it seems the Conservatives hold on to a minority government after next election, but in all likelihood they'll get the boot.

[–]helloprincess 2 points3 points ago

One can only hope.

[–]le_skunque 55 points56 points ago

They wont make it across the border... reaches for shotgun... Good luck to them if they try to move to Québec. Church attendance levels are under 10%...

[–]dietotaku 114 points115 points ago

they'd never survive in quebec, they'd keep yelling at all the "damn frenchies" to "speak american."

[–]Torch_Salesman 84 points85 points ago

You have no idea how much money I'd pay to watch that play out.

[–]TheInternetHivemind 5 points6 points ago

Is it 6? It's 6 isn't it?

[–]ooNegativeONEoo 14 points15 points ago

It would be nice to cheer for the Québecois for once. United by a common enemy you know?

Shush, shush, I'm kidding.

[–]sirborksalot 46 points47 points ago

reaches for firearms license

reaches for registration certificate

reaches for transport authorization paperwork

reaches for authorization-to-carry permit

reaches to open secure container

reaches for shotgun

reaches to remove trigger lock

reaches for separately-stored and separately-locked ammunition

FTFY

[–]frigginhumid 12 points13 points ago

While there is currently no law on the books regarding abortion, I'm guessing you would be hard pressed to find a doctor who would perform one in the late stages. Any Canadian medical experts care to chime in?

[–]Rattler3 4 points5 points ago

Not a medical expert, but I'm a med student who got a lecture from an abortion provider. The reality is Doctor's are very unlikely to offer an abortion after 20-22 weeks, since at that stage it's possible for the fetus to survive outside the womb (possible but unlikely), which tends to be a huge 'ick' factor for doctors. There are doctors who still do it, but they tend to want a pretty good reason for it. Since most prenatal testing is received back between 20 and 22 weeks, it also fits, such that people can make decisions based on the prenatal testing for whether to abort.

[–]Ethaxi 10 points11 points ago

I think you're mistaken on the 45% atheist thing. If you got that from the 2001 census, that was a "% change". It's 16.5% who have no religious affiliation.

[–]emceelokey 41 points42 points ago

Funny because Mexico, in theory, is more of a fit for the religious right, yet not too many people wanting to go there.

[–]sonicscruwdriver 82 points83 points ago

thats because in addition to being fundies they're also racist.

[–]emceelokey 28 points29 points ago

And hypocrites.

[–]plainOldFool 21 points22 points ago

To be fair though, I think I would feel a tad bit safer in Toronto or Vancouver than Tijuana or Suarez.

[–]xanax_anaxa 4 points5 points ago

Canada has socialized law enforcement.

[–]plainOldFool 2 points3 points ago

Fairly certain Mexico does as well... except they are bought and sold by the cartels.

[–]quaxon 3 points4 points ago

except they are bought and sold by the cartels

That's the free market fixing itself, if you weren't so lazy you'd make more money than the cartels and buy the police force yourself.

[–]FoneTap 27 points28 points ago

Where are you getting this 45% atheism statistic from ??

[–]MIUfish 39 points40 points ago

They'd also be unwanted here, even by many conservatives.

[–]muchadoaboutstupid 72 points73 points ago

Dear USA,

Keep your brain damaged fundies, we have enough problems of our own.

Sincerely,

Canada

[–]mcaffrey 18 points19 points ago

Why do you guys think the religious right is moving to Canada if Obama gets reelected?

Edit: I know Democrats said this back when Bush was running for re-election, but I've never heard about Republicans threatening to move to Canada. I really think OP made this up, or is just really confused.

[–]Revyloution 14 points15 points ago

I had a fundie telling me that he was moving to Costa Rica if Obama gets re-elected.

I think I want to see a second term for O just to see these peoples heads explode.

[–]rafaelloaa 12 points13 points ago

Speak for yourself. I'm moving to Canada if Romney gets elected.

[–]Alexwearshats 5 points6 points ago

I'm pretty damn sure Canada is not ~45% atheist. In the 2001 Census, there was little over 16% of people with no religious affiliation. And 'No religious affiliation' certainly doesn't mean they're atheist. So unless in those 11 years there has been a huge shift, which I very highly doubt, you may want to review your statistic. If you have a source (Statistic Canada?) Please send it my way.

[–]Dr_Dippy 3 points4 points ago

Canada is about 75% christian so bullshit on your statistics. Our christian's just don't have the holier than thou, sense of self entitlement

[–]douglasmacarthur 47 points48 points ago

Hey leftwing Americans: we're not a utopia; we're not the system you're proposing; we're not a magical talking point generator; we don't confirm all your preconceptions. We're an independent country with unique problems and features. Stop pretending you know or care about us and generally shut the fuck up about us.

[–]NominallySafeForWork 20 points21 points ago

Wait. Abortions have no time limit in Canada? None? Children who would be able to survive with care can be taken out of the body? Are they then actively killed or just let to die?

Where I live, abortions are legal until the 22nd week of pregnancy. Infants that are removed that late would be able to survive with proper care, but are just left to die. (According to an interview with a nurse, conducted by one of my country's most recognised newspapers)

And in Canada there is no time limit? That does not seem very nice...

[–]IamStrategy 8 points9 points ago

I am a little confused on that as well. Does this mean at nine months too?

[–]mattiMom 9 points10 points ago

It's extremely rare for an abortion in the third trimester, and I believe it only happens if the baby dies in the womb, which can and does happen. I believe it's called an abortion because it's not a stillbirth (a baby that dies after a woman goes into labour) but a procedure to remove the fetus after it has died.

The majority of abortions only occur before 24 weeks (age of viability with a 50% chance of survival) and a small minority happen after this, and it's usually extreme cases.

[–]suupu 6 points7 points ago

The way I was taught is that here, in Canada, there is no abortion "law" meaning that they can't say you can or can't do it. Doctors usually won't perform the abortion after a certain time point unless the baby proves to be dangerous to the mother or some extenuating circumstances cropped up. This no-law occurred after some severe incidents with mothers going behind the law to perform abortions on themselves, some of which damaged the health of the mother as well. Before we had a committee, i think of 8 doctors?, that had to make the decision if you could receive an abortion or not, and it was a time-consuming process, so by the time a decision was reached it became too late to even get an abortion without harming the mother. So it was fought by the moms.

I learned this is law class, way back in my highschool years, I remember this lesson because I was especially interested, but I can't attest for how accurate it is anymore

[–]milkedpussy 6 points7 points ago

It means be careful going with your mom to Canada if she's angry.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Canadian here. If you think we have 45% atheism, you're gonna have a bad time.

[–]whatwatwhutwut 3 points4 points ago

Where the fuck did you get your statistics on the percentage of atheists in Canada?

16.5% as of last census had no religious affiliation.

While the census data is clearly dated, I'd take Statistics Canada's word over some graphic on r/atheism.

[–]memory_hole 4 points5 points ago

The CIA World Factbook lists the percentage of non-believing Canadians at 16%.

Just saying . . .

[–]boraway 20 points21 points ago

You understand that if all of the religious right in the US moved into your country, they would overrun your population and ruin your country right? America's population is around 330 million. Canada is at about 34 million. They do have their numbers.

[–]aflarge 63 points64 points ago

If all of the conservatives left the America, it'd probably be a country worth living in.

[–]Pinworm45 10 points11 points ago

They can't just all freely come here.. they'd have to apply, and contrary to popular opinion, it's actually pretty hard to get into Canada. We'd simply stop allowing them in.

[–]engibeer-me 5 points6 points ago

I don't believe OP was implying that this was what he wanted

[–]SenseiSparky 33 points34 points ago

WE DON'T FUCKING WANT YOU! STAY IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY!

[–]darkly39r 30 points31 points ago

Be polite, we have an image to keep up until the invasion is ready.

[–]PIngp0NGMW 14 points15 points ago

SenseiSparky was using his inner Canadian monologue.

The external version would be "Sorry, we would really prefer if you stayed in America. Wouldn't you be more comfortable there? It's rather cold here and we have quite a lot of married gay people, which you may not approve of. We're sorry about that too, but we believe it's okay. Sorry."

On the other hand, he might really just mean "WE DON'T FUCKING WANT YOU! STAY IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY (,EH)!"

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points ago

I love Canada. Probably my favourite country, equal with my birth country of Australia.

[–]xyroclast 7 points8 points ago

Not only are most of the facts on this picture wrong, I've never heard of anyone threatening to move to Canada if the US got "Too liberal".

As a Canadian, it offends me that this nonsense has made it to the #1 spot on all of reddit.

[–]lagspike 3 points4 points ago

canadian here

please, dont ruin our country

<3

[–]chrispdx 5 points6 points ago

They'll fit in better in Iran or Saudi Arabia.

[–]Badwolf582 6 points7 points ago

We have a border to keep those sorts of people out of Canada.

[–]whoami9 4 points5 points ago

Dear America, we have our own lunatics to deal with. Please don't sent us more.

Please send them to Australia instead, since 1) this is what Australia is for and 2) They'll be eaten by spiders within minutes of arriving anyways, so no harm done.

[–]niciraci 2 points3 points ago

No it'll be great. They can all go to Canada, all you hip cool Canadians come down here, and we'll all have an awesome time together!

[–][deleted] ago

[–]BetterThanOP 2 points3 points ago

are all of these facts about canada true?

[–]ns0 2 points3 points ago

The ratio for abortions in Canada is 30 babies to every 100?! No one else finds that a bit messed? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_in_Canada

[–]s78 2 points3 points ago

That also counts d and c's where the pregnancy is not viable. JSYK.

[–]WizardStan 2 points3 points ago

I've been trying to immigrate my wife to Canada for almost a year now. If they really want to move to Canada they better get their stuff together and start the process now, otherwise it'll almost be time for another election before they are allowed to move (if they are allowed to move). In that time, they might accidentally see that Obama doesn't destroy their country and his radical ideals about health care and the economy are actually, slowly, helping to improve it. We can't have that, they have to remain forever ignorant, it is the only way.

[–]megselphie 2 points3 points ago

Canadians in general are quite religious. We just have more of a "we don't care what you believe in" mentality. Except for the door-to-door christians

[–]carbonanotglue 2 points3 points ago

It kind of seems like Obama is trying to turn his country into Canada, one liberal movement at a time

[–]goofygoobarock 2 points3 points ago

That's a good thing.

[–]AnnunakiZ 2 points3 points ago

The thought of Americans moving into Canada scares me. Were so much better, if they come here standard of living will go down. Lets just wait till Canada stops selling water to the States since they really don't have any of their own.

[–]Alypius 2 points3 points ago

Please don't come to Canada.

[–]testerizer 2 points3 points ago

The hilarious part is that they'll be right at home with the current Canada.

They gave near dictatorial power (admittedly there may have been some voter fraud) to a man who has:

  1. Actively moved to remove science from lawmaking, opting to put in right-wing religious viewpoints into advisory positions instead

  2. Actively dismantled scientific institutions (such as the Canadian version of NOA)

  3. Got the Queen to shut down the publicly elected parliament several times to save his own party.

  4. Shut down social programs for the poor to give tax breaks to the rich.

  5. There are more items I am sure I've forgotten.

The sad part is that Canadians don't seem to overly upset about all of this. As long as there's cake and carnival I guess. Now back to playing a JRPG...

[–]b0utch 2 points3 points ago

Stay the fuck out. We've got enough retard already.

[–]pegcitygeek 5 points6 points ago

If this has a shred of factual information in it, then the religious right in America are dumber than I could have ever imagined.

Stay the fuck out of Canada, we don't want you. Sorry for swearing.

[–]PijiX 5 points6 points ago

As a Canadian.. This is b.s. do your homework before posting your propaganda...
