  • Can't save crew from the Alien
  • Saves the cat from the Alien
  • Infinite karma

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points ago

Do we have any evidence that the cat didn't mastermind the whole thing from the start?

[–]JediMasterEvan5 12 points13 points ago

...MY MIND!!!

[–]ponto0 0 points1 point ago

not gonna lie.. would do so much steamy love toherin that space ship

[–]simeon94 2 points3 points ago

The Alien, Jones, or Ripley? Maybe all three?

[–]shatonamime 6 points7 points ago

it's possible the Cat, like Ash, was also an android. If Prometheus in some way hints or reveals this....biggest mind fuck ever!

[–]atomic1fire 1 point2 points ago

RoboKitty

Prometheus ends in Detroit!

[–]polerix 0 points1 point ago

they use cat blood in they cryogenic sleep process. catnip for everybody - never did see a mouse or rat on any of those ships.

[–]Sfdavidbest 4 points5 points ago

Before the release of Aliens there was a persistent rumor that the Alien had laid an egg in the cat and that was how it would get back to Earth.

[–]edgarvaldes 1 point2 points ago

Hmm, determined or not, that cat must be long dead

[–]HouseofSnow 31 points32 points ago

The entire third act of the movie all I could think about was whether or not the cat would survive.

[–]ibringyoufact 11 points12 points ago

The idea of the alien/cat box shot near the end was to make you think the cat was now impregnated.

Source: From Ridleys Commentary.

[–]porracaralho 13 points14 points ago

Fortunately James Cameron decided that the cat is A-ok in the sequel.

[–]gregmax 5 points6 points ago

good ol Jimmy C

[–]n0t_5hure 1 point2 points ago

i watched this with my kids, and my 12 year old said that the best part was that they saved the cat. :D

[–]BestServedCold 2 points3 points ago

You're a great parent.

[–]OckhamsTeapot 27 points28 points ago

Ellen Ripley is perhaps the most tragic characters ever to be portrayed in cinema. First she tries to prevent the alien from coming on board the Nostromo. She then watches her entire crew get systematically annihilated, and barely survives. She gets woken from stasis, FIFTY-SEVEN years later, where her 14 year-old daughter had already passed away in her old age. She is blamed for the destruction of the Nostromo, stripped of her rank, then asked to go back to the planet where she again watches her entire entourage [except for two] get killed. She gets attached to a little girl, and then the little girl dies. She then gets stuck with a bunch of male prisoners in a prison on a remote planet and discovers, "oh, nice, I have an alien inside of me." --then she kills herself.

I can't think of any character in cinema as tragic as hers.

[–]XenoApe 6 points7 points ago

And then gets revived to live it all again.

[–]jonfreeman 16 points17 points ago

No, that never happened.

[–]XenoApe 5 points6 points ago

Alien Resurrection ?

[–]Kramol 15 points16 points ago

Never heard of it.

[–]XenoApe 3 points4 points ago

I believe I'm being trolled. But long story short, Ripley gets resurrected 200 years after she kills herself and the alien inside her in Aliens 3.

[–]simeon94 6 points7 points ago

It's like the jokes about The Matrix sequels not existing. Alien Resurrection is so bad that people prefer to pretend it was never created.

[–]L4cer8 -2 points-1 points ago

I really wish they made sequels to the Matrix. Too bad they only made one.

[–]wwwbrodie 1 point2 points ago

Of course you're being trolled. Resurrection was insane (in a bad way). Winona Ryder is soooo fucking annoying in that film. FUCK! It drives me crazy just thinking about it.

[–]jonfreeman 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, that never happened.

[–]bojack2424 3 points4 points ago

They didn't Revive her, they cloned her. They cloned her several times and failed, you can see the failed experiments in the movie

[–]XenoApe 1 point2 points ago

True. Same shit, different means. She still has memories of Ripley doesn't she ?

Point being. She has a fucking tragic life described above, commits suicide, and even then it's not the end of her worries.

[–]Mechanikore -3 points-2 points ago

Didn't see "The Grey" I take it?

[–]throwawaylifad 1 point2 points ago

Spoiler

[–]OckhamsTeapot 0 points1 point ago

I have have seen it and there is no way Liam Neeson's character is as tragic a character. Obviously this is only my opinion.

[–]ruderabbit -3 points-2 points ago

Bullshit ... the little girl never died! That would be stupid! That would totally override all the character development we'd established in the second film, reducing us to a tired clone of the first film after the new direction taken in Aliens and destroying any possibility of the franchise continuing in a coherent manner!

Third film ... yeah, right.

[–]Thirdyearfreshmen 53 points54 points ago

I wasn't the only one that thought she was incredibly hot in this movie right?

[–]12LetterName 17 points18 points ago

I'm pretty sure I fapped to the panty shot during the cryogenic chamber scene.

*Edit. confirmed

[–]MontegoBarbados 9 points10 points ago

Just watched the video. I don't remember most of the scenes being in the Alien films.

[–]ILL_Show_Myself_Out 5 points6 points ago

She made other films.

[–]MontegoBarbados 0 points1 point ago

WHOOSH!!

[–]3LollipopZ-1Red2Blue -3 points-2 points ago

Alien is a film?

[–]Derplar 6 points7 points ago

You are not alone.

[–]tnerbusas 0 points1 point ago

She somehow manages to make up for her negative ass.

[–]olypenrain 4 points5 points ago

Seeing her in Avatar is what did it for me. I'm also less than half her age.

[–]i_like_pretty_things 7 points8 points ago

Avatar, not Galaxy Quest?

[–]hungoverlord 4 points5 points ago

i'm pretty sure most of us are

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

Still would bang.

[–]awesomerobot 2 points3 points ago

I can't believe that she's 60.

[–]evenheaded 4 points5 points ago

Man, Alien III, I'm just saying. No bald-shaven lady ever looked that sexy...

[–]78fivealive 2 points3 points ago

She defines MILF for me.

[–]Mechanikore 2 points3 points ago

Now, more like GILF. But still.

[–]babiesloveboobies 2 points3 points ago

I don't consider her that attractive otherwise, but that last scene was one of the hottest of any movie I've seen.

[–]m_bird13 34 points35 points ago

i hope there is a cat in Prometheus

[–]Rassor 14 points15 points ago

Of course you have to save the cat, I was more worried about poor Jones than any of the crew members.

When Ash says "I admire its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality." I like to imagine he is talking about Jones.

I have watched Alien, and Aliens, is it better to stop now or are the third and fourth films not as bad as they are meant to be?

[–]FrankYODA 3 points4 points ago

Watch the directors cut of alien 3, it is totally different to the theatrical release. Even if people have watched 3 before, watch this version, it will be like watching a new alien movie.

[–]simeon94 2 points3 points ago

In my opinion, Alien is the strongest of the 4 by a long, long way. Often people refer to Aliens as being on par, or at least similarly brilliant, but I disagree. It's a good film, sure, but not in the same league as the first.

If you enjoyed Aliens, you'll enjoy Alien 3, I think, but it is noticeably worse. Alien Resurrection is absolutely horrific. My advice is not to go near it. But it's up to you and it will hardly ruin your view of the original or of Aliens.

[–]denizen42 3 points4 points ago

All 4 movies have different strengths.

[–]simeon94 1 point2 points ago

But the 4th has a considerably lower number of them. My advice to Rassor would be to skip it, but that's just me.

[–]BestServedCold 0 points1 point ago

Alien 3 is the best of the films and Alien 4 is not as bad as people say.

[–]throwawaylifad -1 points0 points ago

I don't understand this view, I found 3 and 4 to be far more interesting than Aliens.

[–]Lazar_Taxon 2 points3 points ago

Some people like 3 and 4; I found them both underwhelming. 3 suffered from a lot of executive meddling, and aside from a polarizing plot point at the beginning, it's pretty forgettable. 4 had a combination of script and director that really didn't work.

[–]Sp33d0J03 1 point2 points ago

The DC version of 3 is much better.

[–]throwawaylifad -1 points0 points ago

I don't understand the hatred for 3 and 4, I honestly found them more interesting than Aliens. Be sure to see the "Assembly cut/ Directors cut" or 3 though, the studio neutered it in an attempt for it to sell more and the Assembly cut restores some of what they cut out.

[–]ruderabbit 0 points1 point ago

Now, my personal gripe with Alien3 is that it just takes back everything that happened in Aliens with one big swoop. That mutually fulfilling surrogate mother-daughter relationship that drove the entire film forwards? Gone. The tentative almost-romance between two weary people that have been shafted by Wayland-Yutani seen the worst the Universe has to offer? Gone. The ongoing attempt by a rather suspicious and ambiguous "Artifical Person" to persuade a woman wronged by his kind to accept him, perhaps while pursuing his own nefarious agenda? Gone.

Instead, they just tried to make Alien again, except we didn't have as close a connection with the characters, particularly as we discover our heroine wasn't really in peril from the monster ...

I personally don't feel quite as hostile towards Resurrection as some other people. It would've been better if they just left the series alone, but, obviously, Fox wouldn't let the cash-cow lie. It had some cool ideas, (the slightly sympathetic Newborn, an almost Firefly-like smuggling vessel and it's characterful crew, a character obsessed with the Aliens to a creepy degree in an almost sexual way, which really harks back to Geiger and his "art") I felt these were lost in the stupid parts, plot holes and undeveloped ideas. Worst of all, it just lacked the tension of Alien or the characterful cast of Aliens.

[–]throwawaylifad 4 points5 points ago

I disliked Aliens because it was one big cliche. Cliche's that it had created, yes, but because I've never seen it until a few days ago they felt like cliches. Perhaps I would feel differently if I saw it in 1986. I probably enjoyed Aliens the least out of all four so I'm biased, but I wouldn't have wanted to see more screaming Newt and the very slight almost-romance with Hicks. I would have wanted to see a new and distinctive film with its own style. I disliked Mr. "Corporate guy in it for the money" because even looking at it just from Ripley's point of view, what she learns when pulled out of stasis makes it incredibly obvious that Weyland knowingly placed the colony on LV-426 and it was obviously that they were still just trying to secure specimens.

I hated seeing space marines killing almost a hundred Aliens as if they were simple bugs whilst cracking awful one-liners, so going back to one group of non-cooperative civilians up against one terrifying Alien was far more tense. No one seems to like Alien 3 very much but I did like it's distictively grim tone and interesting subplots. At least, more interesting than Aliens. To me, anyway.

[–]ruderabbit 0 points1 point ago

Sadly, I guess it comes down to opinions.

[–]arctander 11 points12 points ago

Alien was shown in an open quadrangle between two multi-story dorms. When Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) is trying to coax the cat out from behind some equipment, someone yelled from an 8th floor door window "Don't follow the cat! The cat will be alright." We, of course, all glanced away from the screen towards the source of the sound. We chuckled and by the time we looked back at the screen - "RAAWWRRRR!"

[–]decross20 1 point2 points ago

jonesy? jonesy? Here kitty, kitty, kitty!

[–]Ninokun 6 points7 points ago

the cat is now dead ;(

[–]simeon94 5 points6 points ago

Technically it hasn't been born yet.

[–]BigBagofHorses 5 points6 points ago

my cat is named after that cat.

[–]easygoer89 4 points5 points ago

I thought the cat's name was Jonsey?

[–]simeon94 2 points3 points ago

It's called Jones, but Jonsey is an affectionate name.

[–]brainmunchingzombie 1 point2 points ago

yeah i'm pretty positive of this.

[–]starkistuna 3 points4 points ago

That fucking cat scared me more than the aliens themselves...

[–]EverybodyIsRobots 2 points3 points ago

PROMETHEUS IS SO CLOSE

[–]ProbablySortofKinda 2 points3 points ago

I had a massive crush on her as a teenager (only knew her or saw her from the movies).

Hot MILF who fights Aliens and lives to tell the tale? Any day.

[–]coeddotjpg 1 point2 points ago

Shit I was in love with her when I was like 6. Ripley.

[–]Shirosynth 2 points3 points ago

It's weird that she's holding it that close to her face. She said in the interview that she was allergic to it on the set.

[–]babettebaboon 2 points3 points ago

I thought this bit of trivia would be higher up.

But as someone who is allergic to cats but adores them, I have no problem cuddling a cat as long as I wash up afterward.

[–]xebo 3 points4 points ago

Jones saw the whole disaster go down, and he didn't give a shit. Probably pawing at the aliens for food the day after it all happened.

Fucking cats

[–]WildKingdok 2 points3 points ago

That cat is such a dick.

[–]ArkadiusMaximus 1 point2 points ago

The cat still gets me when I watch this, Damn you Jones!

[–]souporjoe[!] 1 point2 points ago

That cats probably been dead for twenty years.

[–]omicronperseiVIII 1 point2 points ago

I'm sure that cat is rolling around in its grave knowing how many terrible 'oh it's only a cat' scenes it spawned. It was never meant to be like this.

[–]Nagastolemybike 1 point2 points ago

I thought its name was Jonesy. Or was that just his nickname?

[–]DingDongSeven 1 point2 points ago

Sigourney rules.

I don't know about you, but any woman who can stand by a Silverback rush. Well, that's better woman, or man, than me. Crap. Have you seen that? Go see it.

I mean, nevermind about calling the Alien queen a bitch.

[–]Ninjasantaclause 1 point2 points ago

That fucking cat man

[–]pixbomb 1 point2 points ago

Favourites.

[–]OdysseusX 1 point2 points ago

How apt. I watched these films years ago and with prometheus coming out I wanted to watch them again woke up this morning finding out that amazon is selling the Bluray box set for super cheap.

30 dollars seems like a steal

[–]jtcompound 1 point2 points ago

I wonder if that cat will be in Prometheus.

[–]FlippantBiscuit 1 point2 points ago

She is so fine.

[–]Beanz94 1 point2 points ago

Sigourney Weaver and her Alien pussy

[–]rjlj 1 point2 points ago

that cat causes a lot of shit to go wrong in that movie.

[–]silverence 1 point2 points ago

That cat is Charlize Theron right?

[–]butcher20 1 point2 points ago

Fun Fact: She was alergic to the cat and she was worried that Ridley and the producers were going to drop her form the film for it.

[–]reddog323 0 points1 point ago

I was too scared back then to notice how hot she was...

[–]warpfield 0 points1 point ago

Awwww she was young, and the cat was alive :)

[–]planet808 0 points1 point ago

you know reddit all too well.

[–]semioriginality 0 points1 point ago

Things would be done to Sigourney Weaver, by me. Passive voice FTW

[–]dimondolla 0 points1 point ago

Of course she saved the cat. She needed it for cheesing.

[–]Latvik 0 points1 point ago

shame they didn't get along, two fine ass, yea you know it

[–]EastVanD 0 points1 point ago

Jonesie, stupid cat

[–]cdedbdiii 0 points1 point ago

I love that woman.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

LASER CATS!

[–]IHaveHerpes 0 points1 point ago

so is the cat supposed to me a metaphor for a penis?

[–]TreephantBOA 0 points1 point ago

Sigourney in her underwear is scarred upon my psyche for all time. I saw this when I was 14 at the theater and never have looked at women in underwear the same way.

[–]roger_ 0 points1 point ago

Care to repost on /r/LV426?

[–]Woeful 0 points1 point ago

[–]mikejam1958 0 points1 point ago

She made me crazy in Ghost Busters also. HOT.

[–]just_wrong 0 points1 point ago

Here kitty, kitty, kitty. Meaow.

[–]Cap10Chaos 0 points1 point ago

Jones is alive and well and living in Dalaran. http://www.wowwiki.com/Jones

[–]daseinlol -1 points0 points ago

I'd like to weave her pubic hair, if you know what I mean.
