O'Doyle Rules!

[–]Vardogr_Sound 31 points32 points ago

goddamnit.

[–]jzzsxm 1 point2 points ago

This is the only proper response.

[–]majorlihung 63 points64 points ago

Whatever happened to using your legs to lift? He's gonna have a hernia or slipped disc before he sees double digits in age. ಠ_ಠ

[–]MannyStillwagon 33 points34 points ago

That's exactly what I thought. I have terrible knees, but I still use my knees to lift because I like having a spine.

[–]ThatFeel_IKnowIt 2 points3 points ago

As someone who herniated their l4-l5 disc while deadlifting last year, I must insist that this is NOT the correct way to lift something.

[–]majorlihung 2 points3 points ago

I have a herniated L5 too. I know that feel bro.

[–]ThatFeel_IKnowIt 1 point2 points ago

Bro, that feel. I know it. How'd you do it? Also, how's your recovery been? Share your experience bra.

[–]majorlihung 2 points3 points ago

I did it during Marine Corps training. Shit has been fucked up ever since. I've tried physical therapy, but that didn't really help me. I'm now considering going under the knife.

[–]ThatFeel_IKnowIt 1 point2 points ago

Are you still in the Marines? Did you have to leave because of it? I had surgery 6 weeks after herniating it. I was unable to lift my left foot up because of the immense pressure the herniation was exerting on my sciatic nerve. How long has it been since you hurt it?

[–]majorlihung 1 point2 points ago

No, I'm out now, but I didn't leave because of it. I was "good Marine" and did the stupid thing of "sucking it up". Mine doesn't sound as bad as yours. I only get the sciatic nerve pain once in a while, usually after mild activity. That's right, mild activity. Long walks usually flares it up pretty bad. That's why I want surgery now.

Did your surgery help? I've heard some horror stories. That's why I've waited so long. I hurt it in Boot Camp in 2001, actually I started BC in Dec 2001, so it was probably early 2002.

[–]ThatFeel_IKnowIt 1 point2 points ago

Surgery helped a lot. Right after, my leg pain got a lot better, however it has only recently disappeared almost completely. it still hurt really fucking bad for a while and it still flairs up when I do a lot of activity. A lot of walking/running will do the trick, as you just said for yourself. The reason I was rushed to surgery was because of that dead foot. There was a risk that it could become permanent. After the surgery my foot mobility came back and is now fine. I was also able to return to the gym without any/only a little pain. I don't deadlift anymore. I switched to trap/hex bar deadlift instead. I also squat without pain now which was not possible a few months ago.

[–]majorlihung 1 point2 points ago

Wow, thanks for sharing. It gives me a lot of hope for when I get my surgery scheduled.

[–]ThatFeel_IKnowIt 0 points1 point ago

What kind of horror stories have you heard? There is always a risk with all surgeries. Just make sure you hire a surgeon who knows what he/she is doing and has done the operation before. It is actually not that long of a surgery. I believe it is only an hour and a half. I was out of the hospital 3 hours after entering. I was stuck in bed on painkillers for about 5 days. Of course, make sure your doctor says surgery is necessary. It wouldn't hurt to get 2 opinions either. You are not supposed to lift anything more than 20 lbs for 6 weeks though in order to give it enough time to completely heal.

[–]JohnnyMikau 1 point2 points ago

One of the mistakes of looking tough in bootcamp. Sucking it up can set you back so far.. One of the recruits in my platoon decided to suck up an ankle fracture during the crucible. Spent another 3 months in MRP and had to pick up at the end of 2nd phase. Meaning he spent about 7 months in boot. I almost made the same mistake with a messed up Bicep. I had internal bleeding but I decided to get it treated per my SDI's suggestion. Spent 2 weeks in MRP and graduated 2 weeks behind schedule. No big.

[–]majorlihung 0 points1 point ago

Yea, MRP was always a fear of mine in boot camp. I didn't want to be a "lousy recruit" for any longer than I had to. Lol. Looking back on it, it's so funny the simple verbiage they used to manipulate us.

[–]JohnnyMikau 0 points1 point ago

Yep. I kinda miss hearing guys in frog voices yelling at MRP, PCP, and RSP recruits. Broke Dicks, Fat Bodies, and Non-Hackers. Those were the days. I actually miss boot camp.

[–]corso 6 points7 points ago

Gah, I couldnt watch without my back hurting.

[–]chiaming412 1 point2 points ago

My thoughts exactly. Continued attempts like that one and his back is going to explode.

[–]DanTheManVan 1 point2 points ago

I see what you're saying, but it seems like it's just a joke and he's not actually lifting that much.

[–]QuantumSociologist[S] 2 points3 points ago

explain it like im 5

[–]DanTheManVan 9 points10 points ago

The little boy is making a funny and probably isn't going to get a hurty.

[–]baconstructions 4 points5 points ago

a hurtia.

[–]kowen 1 point2 points ago

Just a joke? I can't tell if you're being serious so I'll assume you are. That kid is probably 8 and weighs about 90 lbs. The bar itself weighs 45 and it looks like there is at least a 10lb and 5lb weight on each side. So I'd say that's quite a feat for one his age.

I cringe when i hear this myth. It's not true at all.

[–]truck51 13 points14 points ago

Terrible form

[–]MekrahPrime 79 points80 points ago

This kid will grow up to be one of those kids everyone wants to punch.

[–]roflmywaffle579 14 points15 points ago

But being unable to due to sheer size difference.

[–]Badger2qrd 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if saying the kid will be enormous and muscular or tiny due to stunted growth.

[–]redscream 0 points1 point ago

The whole stunted growth thing was proved to be a myth.

Cheers!

[–]drev 1 point2 points ago

Why, because he wants to be strong? Not all weightlifters are douches. My brother-in-law is a power lifter, and one of the nicest people you could meet.

In my experience, very few weightlifters are douches. I imagine, though, that it gets tiresome when people automatically assume you're a douche just because you can bench press more than most people weigh.

[–]Wargall -4 points-3 points ago

Why?

[–]MadMagyar92 2 points3 points ago

His form... It hurts!!!

[–]TysonTesla 18 points19 points ago

I can't help but ponder the level of douche baggery this kid will attain later in life.

[–]ThatLegend 9 points10 points ago

watch out we have a badass over here

[–]SUSPICIOUS_WHITE_VAN 7 points8 points ago

To be fair that kid looks like he's six and if that's a 45lb bar it probably weighs more than he does.

[–]ThatLegend 4 points5 points ago

yeah i know but he did do a triple h celebration after he lifted the bar

[–]lurkernomordor 6 points7 points ago

poor kid. that's as tall as he's gonna get.

[–]DontSayAlot 1 point2 points ago

But 105 upvotes is good, right? Guys?

[–]Gingerduck 1 point2 points ago

Is that Harpo Marx?

[–]EXmaster7 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for knowing who Harpo Marx is. <3 I wouldn't doubt he'd look like that as a kid, but this kid reminds me of a young Jonathan Lipnicki.

[–]ZeroBalance98 1 point2 points ago

So how does it feel to get 1,000 up votes?

[–]QuantumSociologist[S] 1 point2 points ago

feels good, bro.

[–]GhostdadUC 1 point2 points ago

That's just terrible deadlifting form. Kid should have been disqualified.

He also has a case of ILS aka Invisible Lat Syndrome

[–]Rampant_baconator 3 points4 points ago

That kid's back is going to be so fucked up by the time he's 25 if he keeps lifting like that at such a young age

[–]CPTflconX 1 point2 points ago

You should now post how it feels getting 700+ upvotes

[–]PracticallyInhuman 0 points1 point ago

Quit belittling my accomplishments!

[–]addisonclark 0 points1 point ago

that... was the cutest gif i have ever seen.

[–]fauxdesire 0 points1 point ago

awwww! baby beef!

[–]ThatFeel_IKnowIt 0 points1 point ago

Did anyone else see him lift that terribly? He like wobbled from side to side.

[–]snuffletrout -3 points-2 points ago

I can just tell he's gonna be a dickface when he's older, mark my words

[–]ElEsDeeee 11 points12 points ago

Because he is getting excited about lifting? Let us condemn this 4 year old for dead lifting 55 pounds for he will surely be a douche!

[–]baronxs -1 points0 points ago

[–]QuantumSociologist[S] 0 points1 point ago

yes, thank you.

[–]Werv 1 point2 points ago

They'll eat this up... And by they, I mean me... And by eat I mean upvote.... Maybe.

[–]QuantumSociologist[S] 0 points1 point ago

"REPOST!!" -future you

[–]cmlowe -4 points-3 points ago

That kid really needs to wear a belt.

[–]ChangloriousBastard 3 points4 points ago

A kid that young probably shouldn't be lifting weights in the first place, especially with such hard efforts. Max efforts can lead to serious growth and muscle development issues for kids that young.
