I once spent over half an hour at a family reunion before someone approached me to ask who I was with. I said, "Oh, So-and-So Such-and-Such, my grandparents." The person told me that they'd moved the reunion to my grandparents' house because of a low turnout that year.

I would have never known the difference. Old, fat, Midwestern white people all kind of look the same to me.

After 8 years of attending my dad's family reunions, I still don't know very many names or what they do and I always ask myself, "Why the fuck am I here?"

Same thing happened to me. Except at mine, 4/5 of the people came from Germany, and hardly spoke any English. At the time I could barely speak German, so it was pretty much impossible to talk to anybody. It sucked.

Every year at my family reunion there seems to be a new crop of human larva wriggling around. I never know who they are or who they came from. The last few years I have requested name tags that would say something like "(Name): Spawn of (Name)" just so I can figure out how the hell I'm related to these people.
