    Nope. I'm serious. Yes, I know that OBVIOUSLY I couldn't get near (let alone eat) lava without dying. And even if I did eat it, it would taste like... well... rock.

    But seriously, I remember watching David Attenborough programs as a kid that had lava in them, and I thought it looked delicious then. I think it looks delicious now. I don't know why. Some combination of the color, shape, way it moves, the texture.

    Just imagine looking at the splendor of the lava and one second later tripping and falling face first into it. As you struggle to get out you accidentally swallow some lava, some gets in your eyes blinding you. You fall again face first inhaling some of it. No one can do nothing as you burn internally.

    This is my biggest fear.

    It'd be like falling on vaguely soft concrete. If you got back up quick enough, you'd probably just have to deal with some burns, though your clothing may catch fire. It's molten and flows, yes, but it's still rock. It doesn't have the same properties as water.

    had a friend in Hawaii that I used to lava walk with, Sometimes on weekends he would head up to Puʻu ʻŌʻō crater and roast a chicken for lunch. It was always cooked to perfection and tasted delicious!

    What is 'Lava Walking'?

    Lava walking is just walking out on the lava. There is a huge lava field on the ocean side of Kilauea, miles and miles of it. The terrain is rough, hilly, and very sharp. Once you are out a good ways on it, you feel like you are in an alien landscape. The formations the lava make are very cool. My favorite is Pele's braids, inspired me to get dreads as a matter of fact. There are some places that are extremely hilly, where you are surrounded by abrupt and steep hills in the lava, probably old lava tubes or something? Anyway, when they are all you can see all around, its very out of this world. Its very hot out on the lava as well, even if you arent near the flow, and there are cracks and crevices jutting the ground that seem to go down forever. It is highly recommended that you take a walking stick as well, to check your footing. You dont know what could happen one step to the next, so poking the ground before you step is a great idea. As you get closer to the fresh lava, there are a lot of "blobs" of cooling lava. You can walk on them, in fact you have to, but you can see the still very hot lava in between all the cracks, its takes a little nerve to walk it, especially at night, because there are no lights out there but the lava, which is glowing all around you. The view of the stars from out there is amazing as well, because it is so clear, unless you are near the ocean entrance, where there is too much steam. Its very peaceful, watching the flow when its slow. It twists and curls and morphs its way slowly and steadily toward the ocean. Pele is quite the artist, you can see faces, and dragons, and mushrooms, and all manner of things as it flows. Its beautiful.

    I roasted a marshmallow and made a S'more on the lava flow on the Big Island. Was definitely a cool experience but it definitely tasted a bit funny.

    Lava walking is a little intimidating, but super fun! Its not so bad during the day, but as it starts to get dark you start to see red glowing between the cracks as you walk, and as you get closer to the flow things start heating up. Your shoes will melt a little, and the wind on your face is dry and scorching. You can get extremely close to lava, which surprised me my first time, because I had only ever seen nat geo videos of people in special suits.. but, I got close enough to dip my walking stick in and get a bad ass lava burn on it. When the flow is actively moving like in that pic, you can feel it under you when you are nearby, it rumbles and cracks deep deep below you, and it resonates through the lava rock. Think ice fishing on a river. It will often rain at the ocean entrance when things really start flowing, and the rocks you're standing on can get so hot that the rain drops make little "hiss" sounds and go up in a puff of steam when they land. Its so beautiful though, mesmerizing, its nearly a spiritual experience watching the earth form itself. And boy what a show! The way the lava morphs and slowly spills across the landscape, or the way holes will rip randomly in the lava shelf, spewing lava into ocean while creating a lovely din of hissing water and roaring lava. Its truly breathtaking....and I dont even have balls, cuz Im a girl ;)

    Actually, in this case it is on purpose. Normally I don't give a crap about people who re-post (after all, we've all been guilty of it at some point or another on accident), but go check out this guys submission history. His other account is Mind_Virus, which is known to be a shameless re-post king.

    To make things worse, this guy often will comment to claim this picture as his "own original work," when it is VERY much not the case.

    Oh. Well I wasn't able to open the link so i wasn't able to see that. I'm just so tired of people getting angry about reposts on a site that is all about posting things- there will be a repost by accident every once in awhile.     I was near something like that when it started to rain. Deluge, really. Raining so hard you couldn't see someone ten feet away. But my feet stayed dry because the ground was hot enough to be evaporating the water before it got to my shoes. Yeah, it's really hot. :-)
