Where can I play this 3d oregon trail?

[–]Scatatach 88 points89 points ago

Here is the classic if you are nostalgic.

[–]pureprotest 137 points138 points ago

you're the best.

edit: making progress

p.p.s edit: why the fuck cant you ford a river 3.8 feet deep?

p.p.s.s - found andy's tomb stone by chance.

They will be sorely missed. They are survived by their aunt Titty Sprinkles and uncle Morgan Freeman

[–]SoggyToastTime 10 points11 points ago

I humbly present to you, sir: /r/oregontrailproblems

[–]Onyxpanda 1 point2 points ago

Well... I guess the bright side is you won't be needing those sets of clothing or as much food...

[–]cowpunter 15 points16 points ago

Protip: Never ford the river, even if it's an inch deep. Always caulk and float.

[–]kingdogfish 29 points30 points ago

I wanna know how the hell you only travel 4 or so miles in a given day, I could shit a trail longer than that

[–]swuboo 17 points18 points ago

Over rough terrain with an ox-drawn wagon holding all your worldly possessions? While keeping pace with a group of other ox-drawn wagons, the column as a whole moving at the pace of its slowest member?

Four miles is pretty bad, but it's not unreasonable.

[–]HetzerHetzesHetzly 10 points11 points ago

Oxen are not fast.

[–]lactosefree1 6 points7 points ago

Someone, send this man to /r/nocontext

[–]UnfunnyBunnies 2 points3 points ago

I'd very much like to see that.

[–]cowpunter -1 points0 points ago

wut?

[–]Bipolarruledout -1 points0 points ago

I'm thinking the lack of an interstate highway system and internal combustion engines has a lot to do with it.

[–]fawker -1 points0 points ago

There's a graphic statement.

[–]ant27 0 points1 point ago

it said it was too shallow to float across

[–]weazol 0 points1 point ago

Or just save $20 in the beginning to pay your way across all the rivers.

[–]cowpunter 0 points1 point ago

When I played I took the ferry when it was an option because I hunted and traded for more money/supplies but you didn't always get the choice.

[–]weazol 1 point2 points ago

I just played through the whole thing and the only time I didn't have the choice was when I could use an Indian guide. I also obtained the high score on that page linked.

[–]austinyb 2 points3 points ago

[–]kingdogfish 1 point2 points ago

Found that too first run through, is it normal?

[–]vaguity 8 points9 points ago

That copy of the game is the most widely available online now -- saved with that tombstone, incredibly early in the game. Andy's misspelling will live on forever with Oregon Trail nostalgia-seekers.

I laughed myself silly the first time I saw it. peperony and chease, indeed, andy. peperony and chease.

[–]swuboo 10 points11 points ago

It was common even back in the day; Andy's copy was the most commonly pirated version of the game. Andy might not have been a champion speller, but he could sure copy a floppy.

[–]jimblob32 1 point2 points ago

"Cuntlips has dysentery"

SI conversions:

  • 3.8 feet = 1.16 m

you're the best.

edit: making progress

p.p.s edit: why the fuck cant you ford a river 3.8 feet(1.16 m) deep?

[–]KrayzeeGuy 14 points15 points ago

Aww, I was hoping for All-American Bot...

[–]Thick-McRunFast 16 points17 points ago

Yeehaw

[–]notcaffeinefree 1 point2 points ago

2 people died crossing a river 3.8ft 1.16m deep. Yeehaw!

[–]SI_Bot 0 points1 point ago

SI conversions:

2 people died crossing a river ~~3.8ft(1.16 m) ~~ 1.16m deep. Yeehaw!

[–]TheCheat44 3 points4 points ago

Thanks, I officially have found a new favorite youtube channel.

[–]SoggyToastTime 3 points4 points ago

I adore every upload of that fantastic motherfucker's.

[–]XypherFTW 0 points1 point ago

'Are you gusting an armadillo? Wtf happened?!?'

[–]poi25 2 points3 points ago

I nearly pissed myself from laughter especially after playing the game right before. I did make it but was paranoid over food.

[–]Whenthenighthascome 16 points17 points ago

[–]Dottn 46 points47 points ago

Better safe than sorry?

[–]kezza596 2 points3 points ago

I'm al little concerned that the ActiveGS extension it requires can access all data on my computer.

[–]DavidTheBruce 0 points1 point ago

I'am also concerned about that

[–]redstonenico 1 point2 points ago

i have the classic already emulated

[–]Haroshi 1 point2 points ago

I somehow completed it on my first try and and got into the top 10 leaderboard.

And I only lost 1 child to Cholera!

[–]DavidTheBruce 1 point2 points ago

Wow man, I just wasted hours of my day, But I MADE THE TOP TEN!!!!!!

[–]OpenProblem 1 point2 points ago

HA! Made it to the top ten.

"TopTenWut"

[–]ozone63 0 points1 point ago

thank you!

[–]ol_dirt_mcgurk 0 points1 point ago

I must thank you for this. For years I've wanted to play this game, but I am too lazy to seek it out on my own means. Thank you so much!

[–]dropkickoz 0 points1 point ago

So are the high scores realtime? I've added Poopy Weiner and Sir Poopsalot to the high score board. Can you all see them?

[–]Scatatach 0 points1 point ago

No they are only local highscores. If you want a challenge mine is 8085

[–]melancholy_cojack -1 points0 points ago

Just replying to save for later... Thanks

[–]mjskhblflsch -1 points0 points ago

Commenting to save this.

[–]cdoublejj 20 points21 points ago

i grew up playing a 3d Oregon trail on windows 98 i haven ever been able to find again. you could do stuff like hunt and fish in first person. if i remember right it had some live action acting [like myst] and i believe it had several disks.

EDIT: I think it was Oregon Trail II, my 10 year old self must have thought those 2D graphics were amazing back then.

[–]supersonic00712 31 points32 points ago

Amazon trail was just as badass

[–]ahuskey123 17 points18 points ago

THE BLUE MIST HAS TRANSPORTED YOU TO ANOTHER TIME, AND, ANOTHER PLACE.

[–]dsaavedra 10 points11 points ago

Amazon Trail ruuuuuuuuuled. I used to love to go spear fishing

[–]Twyll 4 points5 points ago

I remember being entirely disillusioned with the public school system when I realized I had learned more about the rainforest by playing Amazon Trail than in our week-long section on rainforests in my "gifted and talented" school.

[–]sentimentalpirate 2 points3 points ago

Seriously, gamification (learning or accomplishing tasks through game elements and mechanics) is the future. It taps into the core of human motivation and can produce amazing results if done correctly.

[–]Twyll 0 points1 point ago

Yes, it's the "correctly" that's the problem. XD I have a friend who's studying educational game design, and the pitfalls (heheh, no pun intended) are crazy. The people who want to fund educational games are clueless, and the people who know how to do things right are broke.

It doesn't even have to be video games, though-- I've personally experienced a lot of success from Dr. Reid Wilson's "OCD game," in which you get points for doing simple therapy exercises. It's kinda like Whose Line Is It Anyway-- the points don't matter, but somehow the idea of getting points at all is a motivator.

[–]Bipolarruledout -1 points0 points ago

Why do you think they don't do it? Once you realize the public "education" system isn't meant to educate then it makes perfect since. It is really just designed to install compliance.

[–]Twyll 0 points1 point ago

Your paranoia does you discredit. There are far more impediments to educational game development than acceptance from "the system." Game developers and educators have not yet developed the necessary communication networks to be able to bring their skills together effectively, and the few people who are interested in making "educational games" usually come at it from one side with complete ignorance of the other. There's also not much funding for it-- school systems won't throw money at something new that's not yet proven to work in the private sector, and private consumers won't buy games that don't have the funds to be able to advertise to them. With things like Kickstarter becoming more popular, maybe this will change.

[–]yentlequible 4 points5 points ago

LOVED that game! I remember playing that for so long when I was about 12 years old.

[–]ferio252 0 points1 point ago

Please...find my people some cinchona.

[–]zorton213 7 points8 points ago

I had that as well. It had four discs.

[–]swuboo 4 points5 points ago

Fuck the number of discs. It had laudanum. Finally, something to buy other than bullets.

"Wendy has been bitten by a snake!" "LAUDANUM."

"You were unable to find any clean water!" "LAUDANUM"

"You shot 300 pounds of food but were only able to bring 90 back to the wagon." "LAUDANUM!"

It also made a great trade good.

[–]RJLupin2 0 points1 point ago

Laudanumnumnumnumnumnumnum!

[–]SI_Bot -2 points-1 points ago

SI conversions:

  • 300 pounds = 136.1 kg

[–]SHREDDED_WHEAT 7 points8 points ago

Yes! This is the one I grew up with too!

I would always go overboard with the live hunting and come back with like a million pounds of Buffalo meat (that I couldn't take with me).

[–]Calculatrice 8 points9 points ago

The correct strategy for Oregon Trail II:

  • 1. Buy $500 of bacon
  • 2. Purchase a single ox
  • 3. ????
  • 4. Profit

[–]redstonenico 1 point2 points ago

Thank you! I found a download for it. http://www.myabandonware.com/game/oregon-trail-deluxe-1h9

[–]lithodora 0 points1 point ago

I came looking for the 3d version.. The link is already purple so I'm guessing it doesn't exist. :(

[–]redstonenico 0 points1 point ago

It works. I just have 64 bit windows so i cant play.

[–]UnfunnyBunnies 2 points3 points ago

This is why I have a virtual machine.

[–]redstonenico 0 points1 point ago

Can you help me set up virtual box? I'm getting this error message when I boot from the ISO or CD. It says Error: Could not read from the boot medium! System halted.

[–]marty_m 1 point2 points ago

If only there was a way to virtualize a 32bit OS. Oh well.

[–]redstonenico 0 points1 point ago

VIRTUAL BOX! :D unless you were being sarcastic than: Virtual box :/

[–]lithodora 0 points1 point ago

Well I'm with you on that one.

[–]Incara1010 0 points1 point ago

This is the one I played! Thank you!

[–]gamerx2132 5 points6 points ago

I believe this is from the 5th edition, I had never played an oregon trail game ands found the 5th edition at good will and bought it, had fun

[–]redstonenico 1 point2 points ago

Awww. It doesn't work with 64 bit computer...

[–]gamerx2132 2 points3 points ago

cant you get an emulator for that sort of thing?

[–]redstonenico 2 points3 points ago

Just use virtualbox and use all your memory and cpu's

[–]Bipolarruledout 0 points1 point ago

Use Windows XP mode. Or one of the other dozens of other virtual machines available.

[–]Zinger113 2 points3 points ago

so is there a 3d version or no?

[–]Bipolarruledout 3 points4 points ago

It's more of a "multimedia" version. Most 3d scenes are likely prerendered.

[–]redstonenico 0 points1 point ago

Yes. you need to have 32 bit OS

[–]Bipolarruledout 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure what the newest one is but they had a deluxe anniversary edition a few years ago on Windows CD-ROM (& Mac?) which shipped on three (?) discs. It added newer multimedia features and also included old editions.

[–]chosig 0 points1 point ago

http://www.oregontrail.com/hmh/site/oregontrail/home/arcade

Got pretty much all the Oregon Trail you can carry.

[–]sotosgc 0 points1 point ago

[–]onlyhereforthecake 39 points40 points ago

[–]squimblish 23 points24 points ago

[–]JessicaMaple 7 points8 points ago

Only the fisherman and the fisher-woman.

[–]purpleidea 0 points1 point ago

awesome! i enjoyed that way more than i probably should have :)

[–]Barricaded_EDP 29 points30 points ago

where did you get this fancy Oregon Trail?

[–]CharioteerOut 18 points19 points ago

It's 5th edition. This is my version... I was late to the party. But the traders are still cheapasses.

[–]oodelay 13 points14 points ago

I didn't know they did a new version

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points ago

Shouldnt have bought all those damn bullets....

[–]cuchulainn7 28 points29 points ago

You mean to tell me I can murder hundreds of buffalo...in 3D?

[–]masturcheef_ROFLZ 62 points63 points ago

You shot 4,762 pounds of meat but were only able to carry back 180 pounds

[–]InvaderDJ 55 points56 points ago

This was always the best part of the game. I left a trail of uneaten carnage in my wake for no reason except that I could.

[–]TheSalsaShark 83 points84 points ago

Hooray for historical accuracy!

[–]cowpunter 5 points6 points ago

I would always buy the maximum quantity of bullets and nothing else, stop at the first opportunity, hunt repeatedly until the wagon was full and trade for all my supplies. The later games sucked because it mattered what kind of food you had and they made hunting lame.

[–]alcakd 25 points26 points ago

[–]Eighm 5 points6 points ago

For all those asking which version this is from, it's from the 5th edition. As far as I can tell this is the only part that's in 3d.

[–]CharioteerOut 1 point2 points ago

The hunting was 3D... -ish...

[–]racoonpeople 1 point2 points ago

When I played this it was, 0.1: Abacus Edition.

[–]I_SHALL_FAP_TO_THIS 4 points5 points ago

wheres the dysentery?

[–]Dangevin 9 points10 points ago

"where's the 3D dysentery?"

[–]ksmcqueen 1 point2 points ago

Wow Oregon Trail has come a long way since I played it in elementary school in the early 90s. Nice to see it's still around

[–]XGuitarXGoddessX 1 point2 points ago

DAMN YOU ORGAN TRAIL!!!!

[–]zenith2nadir 1 point2 points ago

This had me rolling. Sadly, I had to explain it to my wife who had never played Oregon Trail

[–]Vaginal_Rights 1 point2 points ago

We had to play this in school when I was younger to learn about the Oregon Trail! And I got really pissed because all I learned was that cart wheels were unstable as FUCK and that kids can die really easy.

[–]Died_Of_Dysentery 1 point2 points ago

I lose everytime.

[–]anymooseposter 4 points5 points ago

You shall not pass!

[–]sadwer 2 points3 points ago

[–]aji23 3 points4 points ago

Is this from a real game?

[–]aggykryss 4 points5 points ago

You... You must be so young...

[–]aji23 1 point2 points ago

You... couldn't be more wrong...I'm 37. I played Oregon Trail on my school's computer in grade school. I have not seen a 3D version of it because I don't normally look for things like this. Can you link to the game?

[–]aggykryss 0 points1 point ago

ooooh, I thought you didn't get the reference. I also had not seen Oregon Trail in 3D. :) Sorry, no link to the game, but I think others linked to it in the thread

[–]stargoslaby 4 points5 points ago

[–]Winged_Waffle 0 points1 point ago

CHARLIE! In Saskia Hamilton? (Pure Guess)

[–]stargoslaby 4 points5 points ago

Charlieissocoollike ....? Then YES!

[–]mjskhblflsch 2 points3 points ago

No, it's from when he sang a song with Tim Minchin but forgot to turn on the microphone.

[–]badmonkey0001 1 point2 points ago

For those wondering, this looks like the version of Oregon Trail for the 3DS or Wii. Be glad you don't know it. It's not worth knowing.

[Turns out it's really the 5th edition]

[–]ss5gogetunks 1 point2 points ago

I don't think so. This looks more like the 1998 version that I played.

[–]badmonkey0001 2 points3 points ago

Aha! We are both wrong. It's The Oregon Trail 5th Edition from 2002.

I still stand by my other statements about the Wii and 3DS version's quality though.

[–]ss5gogetunks 4 points5 points ago

cool. coolcoolcool.

and yes, the wii and 3ds ones I imagine suck megaballs.

Edit: Oh yeah, that's the one I meant. I played that a ton as a kid. Also holy shit, that company's charging $25 for that? yeesh.

[–]Bipolarruledout 0 points1 point ago

What?!?! But console ports of PC games are usually the highest quality!

[–]mightbetrolling 2 points3 points ago

Ah yes Oregon Fail.

[–]mac7777 1 point2 points ago

every.single.fucking.time

[–]daigz 0 points1 point ago

I'm just going to keep laughing while I watch this for a while.

[–]alosia 0 points1 point ago

i just spent the last hour of my saturday night playing this game and i finally beat it. so worth it

[–]urutu 0 points1 point ago

It's possible?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Reminds of Cr1tikal.

[–]Judeas 0 points1 point ago

[–]sitremba1 0 points1 point ago

[–]Double_Scoop 0 points1 point ago

YES! brings me waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back omg. my dad made me play outside when i was younger so the only computer games i played when i was younger was this, where in the world is carmen san diego and mavis beacon [kinda counts]. my trail blazing days continue tonight!

[–]tjb123 0 points1 point ago

Honey I killed the kids, because we have no medicine and we have been eating uncooked game meat for days.

[–]MilesFarto 0 points1 point ago

FUCK YES I USED TO PLAY THE SHIT OUT OF THIS GAME YEARS AGO.

[–]footie1111 0 points1 point ago

Dysentery, the real villain.

[–]sbsb27 0 points1 point ago

It's a wonder anyone got here.

[–]actuallyitsnotokay 0 points1 point ago

This reminds me of nightmares i have from time to time where im trying to ride my bicycle but no matter what i do, i tip over. Fuck i hate those.

[–]Only__Zuul 0 points1 point ago

Always ford the river!

[–]plickz 0 points1 point ago

I loved this game. Who doesn't like letting each family's life run its course and make bets on who is going to die first? New drinking game.

[–]iRateSluts 0 points1 point ago

If someone planned to make a modern Oregon trail game, maybe 3rd person and co-op, with significant depth and replayability, it would be the first thing I've ever contributed to on kickstarter.

[–]vertazontal 0 points1 point ago

Just fuck the ferry and ford this bitch, robot so hot I'd touch his dick.

[–]spinozasrobot 0 points1 point ago

Even the cuts in this remind me of an Aardman animation.

[–]morfar22 0 points1 point ago

[–]CombustionJellyfish 0 points1 point ago

This is all I could think of when I saw that.

[–]sexi_squidward 0 points1 point ago

One time, my cousin was playing Oregon Trail and he forded the river because it was only 2.5 ft deep. I drowned. HOW THE FUCK DID I DROWN?!

When I asked him he said he tied me to the bottom of the wagon to help it float :(

/csb

[–]Th0rz669 0 points1 point ago

Ah... Childhood <3 I played this all the time when I was a kid lol

[–]alwaysawkward66 0 points1 point ago

All aboard the the fail wagon, next stop HELL!!!!!!!!

[–]vulpes_occulta 0 points1 point ago

Except the wagon fell too.. ah, fuck it.

[–]mayimayi 0 points1 point ago

[–]JustinRL_2point0 -1 points0 points ago

Came for a possible Cr1TiKaL reference...
