I'm not positive, but cyclists in NYC used to gather into large groups and bike down the roads taking up all the space on the roads to raise awareness of cyclists or something. I think it was called critical mass.

Anyways, You have a large group of cyclists who are using the entire road, and going way below the speed limit. They did this on a regular basis. Eventually someone got fed up and this happened.

I stopped hearing about large groups of cyclists gathering together after this.

EDIT: Critical Mass is apparently a thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_Mass I cannot confirm if this is a Critical Mass meetup, but it sure looks like one.

EDIT EDIT: This cannot be in NYC. The number plate is the wrong shape for the US.

Oh, brilliant. Let's intentionally stop a bunch of pissed of New Yorkers on theie afternoon commute and force them to follow slowly behind us in order to make them appreciate cycling more.

Yeah. Critical Mass started as just a group ride and turned into a douchebag flash mob. It got so bad that other cyclists started competing mobs that obeyed traffic laws and didn't get in peoples way called Critical Manners.

This image specifically was a pissed off European judging from the number plate, but it still looks like a Critical Mass event.

I do not understand the logic behind these rides. Yeah, it's completely illegal for a guy to drive over a bunch of cyclists, but guess what, the law isn't going to protect you from this persons front bumper.

I don't care what the law says. I'm not putting squishy meat body in front an enraged monkey behind the wheel of 2000 pounds of steel. The law won't keep my bones from being crushed.
