ah yes, just in time for halloween.

[–]Dumpster_Baby 193 points194 points ago

Hey now, this wasn't posted enough times around Halloween, so some of us need occasional reminders throughout the year so that we don't forget about it by next Halloween!

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points ago

Aw shit I gotta start building my costume.

[–]shutupgalvao 1 point2 points ago

Haha, we all know you won't get started until 3:00 PM on Halloween

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Truth.

[–]too_toked 3 points4 points ago

for the planning helps get you ready

[–]fosterroberts 359 points360 points ago

Good lord, I've seen this every day since it was drawn. It's like I'm Bill Murray in Groundhog Day and I'm stuck in a cyclical consistency that defies all temporal and basic logic. I can draw this picture in my sleep. I can smell the candy from the frames. I visualize the characters lives before and after the illustrated story. The little boy is having trouble in Algebra, and those trick-or-treaters met in College because they play Halo every weekend together. And two of them are gay with each other. Help me.

[–]Horst665 49 points50 points ago

Didn't you say something like this yesterday? But maybe I have a deja-vu (héré aré sómé àccènts, I häve nö idea, where to put them on deja-vu)

[–]ZombieMcFatjuice 32 points33 points ago

Déjà-vu.

You're welcome.

[–]Gornil 42 points43 points ago

I havent seen it, eventhough I've been on reddit for soon to be 2 years.

[–]KronktheKronk 6 points7 points ago

[–]ThanatosK 4 points5 points ago

It's not set as your desktop background is it?

[–]bflizzle 0 points1 point ago

Did you see it yesterday?

What kind of cellphones do the college kids have?

[–]ophello 0 points1 point ago

Meanwhile, some of us have never seen it in our lives. A few will suffer, most will be elated.

[–]pantsareamyth 109 points110 points ago

Some friends and I did this (minus the dressing up) last Halloween. It was universally a hit, and a couple people told us that it was the funniest thing they had ever seen. Eventually, though, the door frame started to come apart and we decided to stop.

[–]H4rry 192 points193 points ago

Ghoul story bro

[–]SuperNashwan 83 points84 points ago

That's the spirit.

[–]9ren 28 points29 points ago

Whoa that was effectively disguised.

[–]ParakeetNipple 1 point2 points ago

Same here, except we got a bunch of ridiculous skirts and tops from Goodwill (we're guys). I think the best part was trying them on. We'd come out of the dressing room in a cat covered skirt and there would be several moms with kids just totally creeped out/laughing. Halloween is kind of dead in my town though, so eh... didn't get many reactions.

[–]RedemptionX11 25 points26 points ago

I like this cause the kid in the comic is Spock.

[–]Permadrunkk 41 points42 points ago

That is fucking awesome, I wish trick or treating was big in Australia :(

[–]towmii 20 points21 points ago

I actually went trick or treating with my friends when I was little. A bitter old lady opened one of the doors I knocked on and said "wrong country" before slamming the door shut in my face. I was 7, with three other friends.

[–]LORDJEW_VAN_CUNTFUCK 21 points22 points ago

She was right.

[–]towmii 0 points1 point ago

Yeah but she didn't need to be so bitter about it. I was a little kid and a "we don't have anything, sorry" would've sufficed.

[–]myinnervoice 8 points9 points ago

She actually said that because you're Sudanese.

[–]towmii 5 points6 points ago

Not sure if racism or a poke at the huge number of Sudanese people nowadays. Either way, HAH!

[–]myinnervoice 6 points7 points ago

I was going to say black, but decided that wasn't specific enough.

[–]Xx_Black-out 60 points61 points ago

What? You mean you guys don't ride kangaroos around house to house and get candy???

[–]vapescape 41 points42 points ago

They give out cans of Fosters for Halloween.

[–]nodstar22 18 points19 points ago

I live in Aus, and I have no idea where I'd be able to buy Fosters. Do they even sell it here?

[–]ShallowBasketcase 11 points12 points ago

Probably not. They can't even get a real Australian to do the commercials.

They'll probably be shipping you guys the censored Fosters Lite in two years. And charge more for it somehow.

[–]rednefgibson 7 points8 points ago

I don't even think they use the old slogan anymore, "it's Australian for beer."

[–]OutstandingWarrant 8 points9 points ago

It should have been "Fosters; Australian for shit!"

[–]ohpollux 3 points4 points ago

It's sad that it took me three tries to read Aus correctly. I should be more mature.

[–]Eddie_The_Brewer 0 points1 point ago

I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that VB (Victoria Bitter) is actually a bottom-fermented lager and not a bitter at all.

Perhaps THAT's the Aussie equivalent of 'Trick or Treat'

[–]doubl3h3lix 1 point2 points ago

Hmmm? Fermentation really has nothing to do with bitterness...EDDIE...

[–]Eddie_The_Brewer 1 point2 points ago

Well yes, but that's not what I was saying. It is widely accepted (or at least it was before Colonials started to put their own interpretation on what English words actually mean) that a beer described as 'Bitter' is generally a top-fermented ale, and not a bottom-fermented lager.... DOUBLEHORLICKS....

;)

[–]feorag 0 points1 point ago

Pray tell then good chap, what do the Aussies prefer to quaff? I'd be delighted to come about this bit of information so as to improve my role as a mountebank among the Australians, should I ever visit...

[–]King_Yeshua 2 points3 points ago

fuck off your not welcome - Australia

[–]feorag 4 points5 points ago

Oh dear, this place is not like Canada at all...

[–]nodstar22 1 point2 points ago

not to worry, he was just being a funny cunt.

[–]WildLlama 4 points5 points ago

That would be the trick part, right?

Please tell me more about Australian hipsters! (not sarcasm, I'm genuinely interested) What is Aussie indie rock like? Do you have any examples?

[–]85_B_Low 1 point2 points ago

google image search Melbourne hipsters. Added authenticity is achieved with inclusion of the no. 96 tram or the brunswick workers club

[–]vorgan 0 points1 point ago

abc.net.au/triplej

This radio station plays a lot of local indie talent. http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/11/fulllist.htm Check out this list, and if you don't recognise the band, it's probably Aus indie or Aussie hiphop (which i don't recommend)..

I've yet to meet an international hipster to compare, but fashion is similar. Skinny jeans, loose flanny, do your top button up, bowler hat and roll your own cigs. Drink Cooper's Reds, Gypsie cider or Goon (cask wine).

[–]feorag 0 points1 point ago

I imagine it's a lot like Architecture In Helsinki... But I'm just stabbing in the dark here, not being an Australian and all.

[–]indexone 1 point2 points ago

OK I will put this here, it is a big secret but "Foster" in OZ is crap, what the rest of the world gets is "Crown Larger" re-branded as Fosters. People overseas never see / taste the the really crap Fosters that we have in .au. I really do not know why more people do not know this...

[–]King_Yeshua 0 points1 point ago

the feeling you get when someone offer's you a fosters http://imgur.com/R5K1b

[–]Nevermindit 0 points1 point ago

Good call

[–]MrMastodon 0 points1 point ago

Well the kangaroo would double as transport and storage. Thats pretty efficient. You get a gold star.

[–]LORDJEW_VAN_CUNTFUCK 11 points12 points ago

Either that, or it should fuck off completely. What we have is some horrible middle-ground where kids show up on your doorstep with no costumes and ask for free stuff.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

So 16 year old bogans in no costume with plastic shopping bags don't count?

[–]85_B_Low 1 point2 points ago

You don't think we've imported enough American culture as it is?

[–]BallsackTBaghard 1 point2 points ago

No you don't want that americanization.

[–]rexxfiend 13 points14 points ago

With a "z", you sure about that?

[–]myinnervoice 14 points15 points ago

IRONY

[–]masher_oz 1 point2 points ago

Trick or treating can fuck off

[–]ShallowBasketcase 9 points10 points ago

seriously. fuckin kids. buy your own damn candy. you think just because you dressed up in a silly costume one day I'm gonna share? Fuck no. I wear this stupid human suit all year round, and you bet I eat a fuckload of candy. But do I go door to door expecting handouts? Fuck that, I go to the store like a man and buy it my damn self. #swag

[–]sailingonward 4 points5 points ago

Trick-or-Treating caused Occupy Wall Street

Spoiled brats.

[–]durfsmurf 2 points3 points ago

What if Occupy Wall Street is just a bunch of kids dressing up as hippies and trick-or-treating the entire country??

<Keanu.jpg>

[–]commandodude1265 0 points1 point ago

Wait really? Neat.

[–]M0b1u5 3 points4 points ago

That is totally sweet!

I do not live in the USA, but I do prepare for Trick or Treaters, as they are starting to become more common on halloween. I only give treats to kids who make it to my front door. Firstly they must run through "Fireworks allley": when they walk up my driveway, I release small crackers (usually a full string) behind them. If that doesn't scare the hell out of them, when they push the door bell, it plays the most devilish Vincent Price laugh track quite loudly on the front porch, and when I open the door, I play a really nasty creaking sound.

Kids who get this far get chocolate coated items. Usually it's strawberries, or cherries, but I also include some chocolate covered blue cheese, and some chocolate covered brocolli. :D

[–]FiatJustitia956 2 points3 points ago

...chocolate covered blue cheese? I think that's against the Geneva convention.

[–]Rgideo2 10 points11 points ago

I had a comment a couple days ago concerning "out of time/place" jokes. Halloween is not until October. We are in May. This board is obsessed with Australia so this may have something to do with. Excuse any poor grammar for my "wisdom" teeth have been taken out and I am quite intoxicated on a cocktail of pharmaceuticals. Good night a good luck old Australian trick or treaters.

[–]Erzsabet 2 points3 points ago

Err...what?

[–]doctorscurvy 3 points4 points ago

Australia does not celebrate Halloween, despite what the supermarkets would insist, and even if we did, I doubt the timing would be affected by the difference in seasons.

[–]JonFawkes 11 points12 points ago

Trick

[–]2-long-didnt-reddit 43 points44 points ago

Illusion, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money.

[–]Jayross 8 points9 points ago

...

Or candy!

[–]ringl-bells 1 point2 points ago

...

Or cocaine...

[–]captainSrogers 0 points1 point ago

[–]georgehotelling 2 points3 points ago

Here's the original story that comic is based on: http://ask.metafilter.com/134344/Are-we-too-old-to-trick-or-treat#1919877

[–]aHumanMale 2 points3 points ago

Me and my friends totally did this around our college campus. Then we walked to the college president's house and did it to him as well. My friend Chad pinched his cheek and told him he was a "cute little fireman." It was kind of fantastic.

[–]captainbirchbark 0 points1 point ago

He pinched DML's cheek? haha wow, that takes some nerve...

[–]aHumanMale 1 point2 points ago

Actually it was Jud's. It was a few Halloween's back.
...Who is this and how did you know what college I go to? O.o Sounds...sounds like you go there too. I'm confuzzled.

Edit: I figured out who you are by deduction from your username and knowing you in general. :) Success.

[–]captainbirchbark 1 point2 points ago

yay redditors IRL

[–]wynyx 1 point2 points ago

That's a great idea! Too bad you'd have to do it with a door and a frame to make it work, and you'd have to hold it really tightly.

[–]Misspells_Definitely 5 points6 points ago

Nah, just have a couple supports come out at the base and that'd hold it up.

[–]wynyx 1 point2 points ago

Yet it would have to be hinged or it would not open.

[–]TheOnlyBro 4 points5 points ago

I've read and seen this countless times.

[–]Occasionally_I_Troll 6 points7 points ago

This wouldn't work in Florida. Building codes require that residential entry doors open outward (this prevents hurricane winds from blowing the door in).

[–]therealduncansmith 18 points19 points ago

That's funny. Where I'm from in Canada, doors have to open inwards so that people can't get snowed in.

[–]electric_drifter 38 points39 points ago

That's funny. Where I'm from, the door to my basement doesn't open at all so that no one can get out.

[–]catdadd 10 points11 points ago

Oh Fritzl!

[–]poeman 5 points6 points ago

In New England it doesn't matter what way the door goes, we have both these issues so you pick which one you would be more comfortable dying with and then your door orientation!

[–]Occasionally_I_Troll 0 points1 point ago

Makes sense.

[–]ceaseplease 7 points8 points ago

If you don't look at his username

You're gonna have a bad time

[–]captainSrogers 1 point2 points ago

[–]injekted 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, that's not true at all. Section R311.4 of the Residential Code doesn't require the swing of the door to be in any particular direction.

[–]Cueball61 10 points11 points ago

Everywhere in the world I have been, the door always opens inwards.

America is weird.

[–]Occasionally_I_Troll 7 points8 points ago

In fairness, it's probably just Florida (because of the hurricanes).

[–]saucisse 0 points1 point ago

Residential doors open inwards (except for Florida, apparently), commercial properties have to have outward-opening doors for easy egress in case of fire.

[–]IDidntChooseUsername 0 points1 point ago

In Finland, we sometimes refer to inward opening doors as "Swedish doors".

They all open outwards here.

[–]heyfella -2 points-1 points ago

Outward opening doors prevent a crush of people being unable to open an exit door in an emergency, but feel free to use that in your little internal country ranking so you can feel superior to America.

[–]Cueball61 3 points4 points ago

We're talking in terms of houses.

[–]heyfella 4 points5 points ago

foreigners gonna foreign.

[–]sirin3 1 point2 points ago

Not in Germany.

Although most open sidewards.

[–]saucisse 1 point2 points ago

That's pretty universal now I think due to fire codes, no? If the doors open inwards, a crowd people rushing to get out of a building stand a very high chance of trapping themselves inside by pushing the door shut as they push the people in front of them forwards trying to flee. I think the Cocoanut Grove fire in Boston in 1942 was the impetus for that regulation.

EDIT: Ah, difference between commercial and residential building codes. Never mind!

[–]johntmssf 0 points1 point ago

umm, I live in florida...all the doors on my entire block (i was really curious if it was just my house or something) - even the new houses - open inwards???

[–]Occasionally_I_Troll 0 points1 point ago

Miami-Dade county has the strictest building codes in the state (after being devastated by Hurricane Andrew in 1992). What part of Florida are you in?

[–]brassman271 1 point2 points ago

The only thing that could make that psychologically scarier for the homeowner is if they all were injured or grotesque!!

[–]littleHiawatha 3 points4 points ago

OR if they opened the door that said "please knock" and there was ANOTHER door. Behind this is yet another door. This continues infinitely.

[–]Mrzeede 2 points3 points ago

And becomes less and less funny with each door.

[–]muteki_maigo 1 point2 points ago

Pure gold!

[–]harlows_monkeys 1 point2 points ago

Did you draw that? If not, it would be nice if you'd post a comment giving credit to the artist, and linking to his site if possible.

[–]violinflu 1 point2 points ago

Ahhh high school... one year my friends and I went Christmas Caroling for Halloween. Best reactions ever.

[–]frijolito 1 point2 points ago

12 year olds can't remember something for that long! Nor can they get the proper permission from their parents to do this prank.

[–]Panzerx 1 point2 points ago

[–]reallyhellacool 23 points24 points ago

I remember my first internet

[–]feendish 0 points1 point ago

[–]Buckets_of_Shame 0 points1 point ago

I did something similar last Halloween. I dressed up as Santa and gave people candy.

They didn't think that it was very funny.

[–]philhealy127 0 points1 point ago

That Spock costume is awesome.

[–]AffeKonig 0 points1 point ago

[–]AcousticWalrus 0 points1 point ago

Sophomore year of high school my friends and I got together and did this through our whole neighborhood. We even had one guy follow us around and take pictures because he thought it was so funny. We had a TV tray, chairs and candy.

[–]Anon_y_mous 0 points1 point ago

That was the funniest thing I have ever experienced in my entire life. Have every last upvote that I can salvage off the ground in exchange for such a good read, sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

[–]Lagato 0 points1 point ago

seriously guys? I must've seen this around 3-5 times on reddit already

[–]MaiinStream 0 points1 point ago

How to Reddit:

1) See a cool post 2) save it 3) months later, repost cool post 4) ???? 5) Karma!

Look at this asshole

[–]papagayno -2 points-1 points ago

They were obviously Canadians, no one else would be so polite to give you candy while trick or treating.

[–]Ascoeur -2 points-1 points ago

If this wasn't a repost I would want to know what inspired him to make this comic in the middle of May.
