"Child," the smokey voice of the Elder filled May's little mind with a power and awe her brief existence had ever known, "you must journey to the far side of the brown wastes-" This little girl, whose destiny was being laid out to bear, looked on with wide eyed glassy innocence- "There you will find a decrepit hog who goes by the name of 'Drytear'. Speak to him; show him what you have shown me, and you will be provided with the power to accomplish your goal."
Little May continued to listen to the bovine creature whose existence she knew not of only moments before. Her quest had just begun but deep in her little heart she could feel a seed of eldritch importance germinate. Soon, she would be baptized a warrior of the Manatee Monks; a messenger and protector of their ancient ways and truths. It would not be an easy task but she knew that if her wise, watery friends were to survive the coming of the Dyre Dread, she had to succeed.
Bova, mushed his old, wise snout against the glass. May tried to muffle her giggle but it was no use and a bit of it escaped her little lips. Bova's deep and murky voice swam in her mind again. "You must go now, little May. You will be our avatar in the Dray, the world without wetness. Go to Drytear without delay and help us." May's mind felt a little larger now. She felt like a purpose had filled her up from head to toes and she was now going to leave the temple and find this Drytear. She gathered her belongings, tucked her stuffed teddy into her belt and the pouch full of mystic dust, that the priests had provided earlier, onto her waist. She was as ready as she'd ever would be. And as she stepped into the exit of the temple she slowly turned and gazed one more time at Bova has he gently waded away into the murky fog of his tank. Now was the time. May looked out to the mountains that lay before her and with a huff of her little frame she began..
