Ever had someone show you baby pictures... of the baby being born? It's terrifying.

[–]SKREAM 82 points83 points ago

Ask them if they have any pictures of the baby being conceived.

[–]Se7en_Sinner 16 points17 points ago

Then ask if you can keep it without breaking eye contact.

[–]omniusjesse 24 points25 points ago

Doug Stanhope has a bit about how when people do that to him, he shows them a picture of his father's corpse that he keeps in his wallet.

[–]RonPolyp 15 points16 points ago

My ex-brother in-law shot video of his stupid kid being born. Whilst pushing, the Heironymous Bosch nightmare that was the brood mare sharted a vast quantity of liquishits all over the doc and the emerging kid. AND NOT EVEN THIS PREVENTED THEM FROM PROUDLY SHOWING EVERYONE THE FOOTAGE OF THEIR PRECIOUS "MIRACLE".

Apparently, this sort of thing happens all the time.

[–]ZombeeAndroid 4 points5 points ago

See no one ever tells their kids: I shat all over you while I gave birth to you. You were momma's little poo monster!

[–][deleted] ago

[–]iwearthecheese 2 points3 points ago

There are going to be stitches somewhere, the belly really is the lesser of two evils.

[–]darkneo86 0 points1 point ago

Ah yes. No wonder it is so overused by doctors. I was a caesarian section, too. No complaints from me! I see why it is so commonly used now, though - less smelly/messy. Gross.

[–]SkyWulf 2 points3 points ago

C-section.

[–]ZombeeAndroid 1 point2 points ago

See no one ever tells their kids: You came straight out of my stomach in a bloody mess like an alien! You were momma's little chest-burster!

[–]billiegoat[S] 15 points16 points ago

That sounds like a bad time to me.

[–]mommy2libras 6 points7 points ago

Hell, I didn't even want to watch my own babies being born.

[–]kate101091 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, my friend's mom actually had one of the birth pictures framed. I was 7 the first time I saw it and thought the umbilical cord was an intestine coming out of her. Who knew umbilical cords were so gross looking?

[–]my_name_isnt_clever 4 points5 points ago

It's a piece of flesh from inside the human body, who would expect it to NOT be disgusting?

[–]kate101091 4 points5 points ago

I didn't expect it to be thick and purple, also I was 7 at the time. I thought an umbilical cord would look like a pink electrical cord I guess.

[–]mogorrail 9 points10 points ago

This comic sums up my feelings.

[–]springy 9 points10 points ago

I have noticed a trend among parents to prefix details of their children with terms like "wonderful". Nobody says "I have two kids" anymore. Instead, everybody says "and I have two wonderful kids". On average, the average kid is only going to be average. I look forward to the day when an honest parent will say "here are some photos of my average kids".

[–]doom_of_sarnath 3 points4 points ago

But they can't do that, because every child is a unique little snowflake, right? They deserve that participation award. It's certainly not contributing to the rapid deterioration of our school system and producing a generation that is even more self-obsessed and privileged than mine (which is saying something).

[–]cccrazy 0 points1 point ago

They're just overcompensating imo...or trying to convince themselves they have made the right decision in life to have children.

[–]your_child_isnt_cute 154 points155 points ago

AGREED

[–]billiegoat[S] 16 points17 points ago

You don't say. ;)

[–]muldoonx9 74 points75 points ago

Demetri Martin has an excellent graph on this topic

[–]lychee-twist 9 points10 points ago

"And that's the way it should be."

[–]worksomewonder 8 points9 points ago

Up until he was nearly 4 months old, my baby's pictures would only be appropriate in r/whyisthatbabygivingmemurdereyes or r/angrybaby or r/meanmuggingbabies

[–]SeaBones 37 points38 points ago

Maybe it's just me, but if I just had my first child, the LAST thing I'd be thinking about is posting photos of it to reddit.

[–]Malvolio421 1 point2 points ago

Then it's obvious you don't have a child.

[–]SeaBones 44 points45 points ago

What clued you in? The fact that I didn't preface that sentence with "As a mother..."?

[–]adamflint 3 points4 points ago

You know, this is a rare situation in which it would actually be appropriate to say that.

[–]SeaBones 0 points1 point ago

And how would me being or not being a mother shed any light on how strangers on the internet perceive pictures of babies they are not related to.

[–]santitre 1 point2 points ago

Why did you comment here.

[–]tagrav 1 point2 points ago

but the consensus around here is that its Karma

[–]omgpokemans 20 points21 points ago

Filthy humans!

[–]Instantdobie 5 points6 points ago

[–]growth_kills_nature 1 point2 points ago

"IIIIIII DIIIIIIIIID ITTTTTT!"

[–]Blue_mad_bro 0 points1 point ago

That was what. I shouldn't have watched that on ambien+adderall.

[–]RayadoEstrecho 1 point2 points ago

I didn't think that r/aww could become more saccharin and idiotic than it already is, but human babies might do the trick.

[–]QuestionSleep 19 points20 points ago

It sounds like you might like it over at /r/childfree !

[–]Fett2 213 points214 points ago

Very overused gif, but I really don't like children, especially babies. My upvote has never been so conflicted.

[–]ZjanP 68 points69 points ago

I don't mind a gif being used often if the title is contributing enough to make it funny.

[–]TheInternetHivemind 10 points11 points ago

This, sometimes the title is what makes it funny.

In these cases, unless it was formerly posted with the same title, it is not a repost.

[–]statiktv 43 points44 points ago

I've never seen this gif before and I do not like babies either - therefore upvote fully rationalized.

[–]Fett2 13 points14 points ago

Redditor for over 4 years and never seen this gif before? I..I...must be on reddit too much. Time to go to the outside place.

[–]Thewhitebread 1 point2 points ago

If you haven't seen this gif before you clearly haven't been on Reddit enough.

[–]Fett2 6 points7 points ago

I was trying to compare the fact that I've been a redditor for less than half the time statiktv has and I've seen it many, many times.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Boom, logic.

[–]PolardOOd 13 points14 points ago

I downvote every baby and every pokemon submission I see...and anything that remotely references the two.

[–]Bensonius 7 points8 points ago

I feel so alive after reading this. I've been silently downvoting any pokemon since as far back I can remember, thinking I must be the only one.

[–]Paradox 0 points1 point ago

You arent. I hate that fucking bullshit and i hated it as a kid too

[–]darkneo86 2 points3 points ago

I agree. Pokemon is just...no. It's okay when you're 10. Even then it's a close call. But an adult? Eh.

[–]Petra-Arkanian 2 points3 points ago

This plus My Little Pony.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I'M READING SHADOW OF THE HEDGEMON RIGHT NOW. /hug.

[–]darkneo86 1 point2 points ago

Such a great series.

[–]Squidfist 6 points7 points ago

I've never seen this gif on reddit before. Also, Clint is awesome, you can't have too much Clint.

[–]Fyrus -5 points-4 points ago

The main part of abortion that makes me a supporter of it is that it gives us the opportunity for less kids in the world.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Oh, don't be like that...

[–]Fyrus 6 points7 points ago

Overpopulation is a serious problem in a lot of countries!

  1. Abort Babies
  2. Solve overpopulation
  3. Use embryos to cure cancer

[–]Italian_Barrel_Roll 3 points4 points ago

I wish you weren't being downvoted for providing legit solutions to problems.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Too bad your parents didn't share your ideas.

[–]Fyrus 0 points1 point ago

I wish they did... because of my mother's pregnancy at the age of 17, she had to stop going to college, and she now lives alone because she's a bitch. If she had got an abortion instead, she may have had time to develop in a mature fashion instead of jumping headlong into childcare.

[–]siriusgrey 1 point2 points ago

If you were such a problem, why didn't she just put you up for adoption?

[–]Fyrus 1 point2 points ago

I like the cut of your jib.

[–]Bosley_Jackson 43 points44 points ago

I kind of agree for a few reasons 1. all babies kind of look the same. 2. I kind of don't like the idea of karma whoring using my child's picture (like yeah you could be upvoted, but your child could be made into a derp or incest meme) Just saying...

[–]vitaminmary 22 points23 points ago

I'm not a big fan of putting photos of my kid on the internet in general. I wouldn't want someone doing it to me, so why do it to them?

[–]Bosley_Jackson 12 points13 points ago

Yeah I totally agree, it's kind of spooky putting your kids pictures out there for the world to see. If people don't care about their privacy at least respect somebody else's privacy that isn't old/intelligent enough yet to make a decision for them self.

[–]mommy2libras 5 points6 points ago

Has nothing to do with privacy for me. My kids now? Pretty cute. When they were born? Looked like miniature old men from some freaky movie. Most babies do. Newborns aren't cute. They take at least a year or so to start looking like they are actual humans or don't have some weird Benjamin Button disorder.

[–]LOOK_MY_USERNAME 2 points3 points ago

(like yeah you could be upvoted, but your child could be made into a derp or incest meme) Just saying...

Worth it!

[–]cr3ative 10 points11 points ago

"Get back to Mumsnet" rarely works as well as I'd hope it would.

[–]robodale 31 points32 points ago

Agreed. Babies are not cute.

[–]lpisme 15 points16 points ago

Agreed x1000. I was in a research study once that presented an article about the science behind why we "woo" over babies and what not - something about it being hard-wired into us. I then felt bad for whoever spent the money for that study.

Babies aren't cute. They are loud. They are annoying. They drive me fucking insane. Out to eat? WHAAAA Oh shut the fuck up. At the movies? WHAAAA Oh what the hell. Anywhere, anytime, appropriate or not? WHAAA Christ kill me now.

[–]Lefthandedsock 9 points10 points ago

I've seen similar studies. Ones that show that we're hardwired to percieve things as "cute" when they possess features such as short necks, big heads, chubby legs and whatnot. I don't find any of those cute unless they apply to a bunny. Babies just seem like creepy little sub-humans. Personally, I think grown people are cuter.

[–]RonPolyp 9 points10 points ago

Not to mention barfing, shitting, pissing, and drooling all over the place. When your Uncle Victor does it, you stage an intervention. When Baby Cletus does it, it's AWWWW HOW CUTE.

[–]Jocko6418 7 points8 points ago

Foul demon spawn!

[–]jmc_automatic 9 points10 points ago

They're cute sometimes, but honestly, all babies look the exact freaking same to me. If you showed me a picture of a baby and told me to pick it out of a lineup of babies, I don't know if I'd be able to do it. Then again, whenever people are talking about which parent the baby looks like more, I can't ever see what they're talking about. "Oh it has his chin, and her nose!" No it doesn't. It has a baby chin, and a baby nose that look nothing like either parent.

[–]sensors 4 points5 points ago

[–]dogboobes 2 points3 points ago

It's really cute that parents are obsessed with their babies. When I was a baby, my parents were obsessed with every little fart and shit and dribble, and it was awesome. I was treated like royalty. I could do no wrong. I was the cutest thing in the world to them.

But to EVERYONE ELSE, your baby looks exactly like that baby. Or that baby. Or that baby. Stop posting pictures of your babies on Reddit. Please.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

Babies are only ugly once they reach the age to be on Reddit. And then they're fucking hideous as evidenced by the comments...on pretty much everything Reddit has to offer.

[–]Whitworth 2 points3 points ago

There's nothing more that I hate than Redditors... Yet here I am...

[–]000100110 3 points4 points ago

As a parent I totally get this. Why is it that parents feel it necessary to shove their kids in other peoples faces? If they wanted to see what your fucking baby looked like they'd ask.

[–]cccrazy 1 point2 points ago

You sir/madam are an island of sanity.

[–]000100110 1 point2 points ago

It's sir. And thank you.

[–]greyhulk 1 point2 points ago

I love you for posting this.

[–]jillyboooty 1 point2 points ago

Well if they do it today, RES may redirect their picture to some hentai, various minecraft skins, screenshots from games, or other NSFW goodness. It really is fun.

[–]trueSADCAT 3 points4 points ago

30 here, female, and love 'em or hate 'em, humans have some of the ugliest babies around. It's okay. We can't be the best at everything.

[–]Hydris 4 points5 points ago

You know how many people i wish i could tell that their child is ugly.

[–]9001 3 points4 points ago

I have an ex-gf who's married with kids now. Her kids look like little fucking aliens.

I don't comment on ugly babies. The odd time I see a cute kid, I say so.
This is my secret way of telling the people with ugly babies that their babies are ugly. They might pick up on it if they weren't so busy taking pictures of their ugly fucking kids.

[–]Wrathenstine 11 points12 points ago

It's the whole ideology that screams "I am a part of the human race, I did something everyone can do, and I fulfilled my biological role as a member of a species"

[–]yuno10 33 points34 points ago

On the other side, pictures of puppies are so rare and unbelievably hard to get.

[–]TheLastDunyain 1 point2 points ago

Maybe this whole subreddit sucks?

[–]reagan2016 3 points4 points ago

Indeed, it's so difficult to care for a dog.

[–]Petra-Arkanian 1 point2 points ago

You've obviously never had a Boxer or an Australian Shepherd.

[–]higgernaut 3 points4 points ago

Personally, I think it's a lot harder to poop out a baby than to buy/adopt/find a puppy.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

Yeah that's what they're saying.

[–]ubersiren 2 points3 points ago

Not everyone can have children, you know. More people have the capability to obtain a dog than biologically create a child.

[–]lishka 1 point2 points ago

No, it's just the simple fact that babies are usually cute and people love their babies. That's all.

I did something everyone can do

Not everyone can have a child.

[–]9001 5 points6 points ago

babies are usually ugly

FTFY

[–]injekted 12 points13 points ago

Maybe I'm in the wrong here and may even get downvoted to hell, but it's /r/aww... not /r/aww_animals. If the kid is cute or doing something cute, I'm fine with kids.

As per the sidebar, the point of /r/aww is to "post really cute pictures, videos and stories."

[–]sulf 6 points7 points ago

[–]injekted 0 points1 point ago

Pretty much how it goes around here.

[–]Billism 37 points38 points ago

You forget where you are. Reddit hates babies. Most people here are college-age or younger and hate babies because they are not at the stage in life where it is a good idea to have babies. So, as a dependent that is much less maintenance, they turn to cats and dogs and such. I was also terrified of babies when I was younger.

[–]kartoffelheinz 86 points87 points ago

The point is, babies arent "awwww".

[–]beccaonice 23 points24 points ago

To many people they are, obviously, or no one would post or upvote babies.

[–]Pandoraa 20 points21 points ago

[–]starlinguk 16 points17 points ago

Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't.

[–]thenshesays 29 points30 points ago

mostly aren't.

[–]ubersiren 2 points3 points ago

I'm pretty sure that absolute declaration isn't up to you. What's awww and what isn't is very subjective. Some baby animals that are frequently posted I think are hideous. We get it, reddit hates babies. But keep this arrogant blanket statement shit to yourself. braces for downvote storm

[–]Lots42 -1 points0 points ago

I only downvoted you for complaining about downvotes.

[–]Lefthandedsock -2 points-1 points ago

But babies are not cute. Therefore, they do not belong in /r/aww.

[–]injekted 7 points8 points ago

That is your opinion.

[–]santitre 0 points1 point ago

The only people that find babies cute are their parents, they are ugly to everyone else. If someone tells you your stupid kid is cute, they are faking it to save your feelings. That's why step parents are stereotyped as evil. They have to pretend to like the stupid brat of the person they love, but eventually crack.

[–]injekted 1 point2 points ago

Haha. I think a lot of kids are cute.

[–]Mr_IsLand 4 points5 points ago

couldn't agree more with this gif

[–]UprootedEagle 6 points7 points ago

Babies are gross.

[–]Canarka 6 points7 points ago

Posting babies to aww is the worst thing ever. If I had the know-how I'd write a bot that creates accounts and specifically downvotes baby posting in aww.

Get that shit out of here. Your own family doesn't really want to see your baby; neither do us strangers.

Your baby isn't unique or beautiful or liked. Go away.

[–]probablynotaperv 3 points4 points ago

I just went and downvoted every kid picture I could find on /r/aww

[–]PullOutBoy 4 points5 points ago

Ugh babies are so fucking ugly! Please redditors keep your ugly spawn fucklings to yourself

[–]Fancy_Bits 1 point2 points ago

So much agreement.

[–]Yserbius 1 point2 points ago

In my family we determined that any baby younger than six months old, is not cute and doesn't look like either parent (unless the dad is Winston Churchill)

[–]Daroo425 -3 points-2 points ago

People think lizards or old dying dogs are aww but not little babies?

[–]Billism 63 points64 points ago

Fact: Reddit hates babies.

[–]Kittsy 2 points3 points ago

Unless it's baby animals =)

[–]Smaskifa 10 points11 points ago

It's the atheists I say!

[–]Notwafle 30 points31 points ago

Still don't belong on /r/aww. There's /r/FoodPorn for a reason!

[–]blowinbacksout 7 points8 points ago

best comment ever

[–]TheDroopy 1 point2 points ago

Pretty much everyone who doesn't have babies but has a Y chromosome hates babies

[–]Billism 1 point2 points ago

Yep, that's the main Reddit demographic.

[–]TheDroopy 0 points1 point ago

Well yeah, but it's not specific to Reddit

[–]Billism 0 points1 point ago

Not every community on the Internet has the same demographic.

[–]TheDroopy 0 points1 point ago

But why not just initially reference the group of people, rather than a demographic that may be made up mostly of some of those people?

[–]beccaonice 1 point2 points ago

I got downhammered really hard in /r/f7u12 for even suggesting that some people think babies are cute.

Seriously, like -26, for saying something completely true.

[–]Dump-Truck 3 points4 points ago

Truth is often the quickest path to downvotes.

[–]beccaonice 2 points3 points ago

Wisdom.

[–]LOOK_MY_USERNAME 2 points3 points ago

If I wanted to see other people's babies I'd be on facebook.

[–]Billism 0 points1 point ago

I have many friends on Facebook that post pictures of their pets. It goes both ways. Showing off your kids or your pets is the same to me. Both acceptable. On Reddit, I only see people showing off their pets, probably because most of the baby ones are down-voted. Young people tend to get pets instead of having kids. And this is good - they are young and should probably wait. After growing and maturing a little, the desire to have children usually starts occurring. It's nature's way of keeping the species alive.

Edit: Ha, and right after I typed this message, I went to the front page and this was at the top with the highest up-votes.

[–]yuno10 -1 points0 points ago

I'm almost nauseated at the hatred towards newborn members of our same species. I'm not a parent, nor I want to be one for now, and I dislike many things in children, but babies can well be damn cute.

[–]RyanFuller003 6 points7 points ago

I don't hate babies so much as what they represent: the loss of self and becoming a parental zombie whose life is lived only vicariously through their offspring.

[–]MyLittleButtercup 6 points7 points ago

That's only true if you haven't lived enough. I was 40 when I had daughter. I'd traveled to Europe, gone to Hawaii alone and stayed with strangers in a youth hostel in Oahu, and pretty much did everything I wanted to before having a baby.

No, I'm not living vicariously through my child. I've lived. Now it's time for me to teach another human how to do it.

[–]vitaminmary 3 points4 points ago

Nah, only if you let it. You change a bit, and you find happiness in seeing the world through their eyes. But you have to remember to maintain your own identity and continue with the things you enjoyed before kids. It just becomes more of a balancing act.

[–]Billism 0 points1 point ago

Ask your parents how that went for them.

[–]RyanFuller003 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure what your purpose is here. Let's see. My dad lost touch with all his friends, and both got stuck in an unhappy marriage for the better part of 30 years because neither wanted to put their kids through a divorce.

[–]Billism 0 points1 point ago

My point is that unless your parents are horrible people, they do not regret having you. Unless your a total fuck up. Which I am not saying you are.

[–]fnargendargen 107 points108 points ago

Yes. Babies are ugly as fuck.

[–]Daroo425 2 points3 points ago

I never knew people felt this way lol

[–]TaintedSquirrel 47 points48 points ago

The only people who think babies are cute are parents... and it's their own baby.

[–]thewhitedeath 19 points20 points ago

Not true. My 22 year old son was ugly as fuck as a baby. Not ashamed to say it. Turned into a rather handsome young man now that he's in his twenties. Albeit he's a hipster, but you can't win em all.

[–]touchy610 5 points6 points ago

Turned into a rather handsome young man now

Pics or it didn't happen.

Sincerely,

Lonely 24-year-old female

[–]thewhitedeath 10 points11 points ago

Alright Lonely girl, here you go. I warned you (hipster alert, beard and all).http://i.imgur.com/GAKuQ.jpg Very Ryan Gosling-esque I think.

[–]Hailth 2 points3 points ago

The beard is so legit but the combed monopoly man mustache going on is... well. You know. Props to you, you get a 10/10 for pimping your hot son out on reddit.

[–]touchy610 2 points3 points ago

Oh, wow. He is quite handsome. I love the beard! It's not too hipsterish. I bet he looks just ridiculously good-looking when he's clean-shaven, though.

And that's you? Good genes, apparently! You look like you're in better shape than the average woman around (what I assume is) your age range. :)

[–]thewhitedeath 4 points5 points ago

Haha. That's my mother. His grandmother.

[–]touchy610 1 point2 points ago

Oh, WOW. I have to wonder how you look now. Jeez. She doesn't look very old at all.

[–]Petra-Arkanian 3 points4 points ago

You need to crosspost your son to /r/LadyBoners

[–]Loco_Mosquito 11 points12 points ago

he's a hipster

Ouch. My condolences.

[–]thewhitedeath 1 point2 points ago

Yeah well he's a good kid. Never once got in trouble as a teen. He is however the Hipster poster child, large collection of old cameras, huge vinyl record collection (played on ONLY vintage turntables!), mostly jazz from the 30's and 40's, Books on every obscure Russian author you can think of, degree from "art" school, French cigarettes, vintage clothes etc... etc... etc...

[–]topernicus 5 points6 points ago

Should I post a picture of my baby to _______?

REDDIT-> FUCK NO, GO BACK TO FACEBOOK.

FACEBOOK-> YOU PROBABLY ALREADY HAVE.

[–]Daroo425 9 points10 points ago

I think other babies are cute also.. well not always cute, but they can surely be cute.

[–]siriusgrey 6 points7 points ago

Babies are damn cute.

[–]1_point_21_gigawatts 21 points22 points ago

Babies are no different than freeloading hobos. They aren't coherent, they shit, piss, and puke themselves all the time, and they don't contribute or do anything useful. Fucking babies. GET A JOB.

[–]beccaonice 0 points1 point ago

That's such nonsense. Most people think babies are cute. I've never had a kid, and I think babies are freakin' adorable.

[–]arcooke 9 points10 points ago

I've always thought most babies were ugly.

I once posted in /r/askscience why people find baby animals cute but baby humans ugly (or at least don't get that same emotional reaction when they see a baby human). It would seem, from a natural point of view, that baby animals would be seen as an easy source of food.. yet for some reason all we want to do is hug them. I never got much of an answer other than "this has been asked before", even though the question was never given a decent answer.

[–]Lots42 1 point2 points ago

Baby animals tend to be able to take care of themselves much easier then baby humans.

[–]golf1052 0 points1 point ago

It would seem, from a natural point of view, that baby animals would be seen as an easy source of food.. yet for some reason all we want to do is hug them.

We want to hug them to death.

[–]Pandoraa 4 points5 points ago

[–]probablynotaperv 7 points8 points ago

I look at that and my only thought is "Well I guess that baby isn't too ugly." It's nowhere near the reaction when I see a puppy or kitten.

[–]22nd_letter 6 points7 points ago

Yes, I am one of those people.

yes. human babies are boring

[–]DuckDragon 24 points25 points ago

In a word, yes. At least to me, animals are cute, but humans? Not so much.

[–]Lots42 2 points3 points ago

Yes. Babies are frightening and scary and look like drunk old men.

[–]Vorokar 1 point2 points ago

Lizards are friggin' adorable.

I hate old dying dogs. Get that shit out of aww unless you don't mention it is about to die and just have a cute picture of it.

I'll settle this right now, Anyone who posts pictures of their baby are required to post their physical address as well. I will personally fly to your home and slap both of you in the face for trying to force your ugly sack of potatoes down the collective internet's throat.

NOBODY likes it when a co-worker corners them & pulls out a wallet to show pictures of a slimy,greasy,newborn....So why would it be any different when you do it on a MASSIVE scale via reddit?
