[–]MarineClimateLover 3 points4 points ago

Even so - I laughed.

[–]TheSpaghetti_Monster 2 points3 points ago

Look at those original Xbox controllers on the table. Massive.

[–]johanbcn 2 points3 points ago

Yet so comfortable.

[–]rileyrulesu 2 points3 points ago

well, considering halo came out in 2001, I doubt it...

[–]Jesus_Harold_Christ -2 points-1 points ago

Hey, check out this guy who doesn't understand hyperbole!

[–]PabloBablo -1 points0 points ago

It's even older than saying, "it's older than the Internet"

[–]sml6174 2 points3 points ago

I'm pretty sure that statement came after the internet was created

[–]maduin 7 points8 points ago

we'd do 4-player 2v2 team games using 2 tvs and a vcr. you plug the n64 into the vcr inputs and then use the AV out on the vcr to one tv and then the RF (coaxial) out to another tv and put the tvs back to back and then use card board to cover up the bottom and top of each screen on each tv.

[–]Gooberpatrol66 5 points6 points ago

[–]Slyfox00 4 points5 points ago

Because when it comes to Halo: Combat Evolved, we don't !@#$ around.

[–]MoederPoeder 12 points13 points ago

Oh look guys, this thread again

[–]Jmvars 18 points19 points ago

Back when we used to play 4 player splitscreen nightfire and time splitters. Or any FPS game, we used to split the screen with some cardboard.

Just take one piece of cardboard and split the screen vertically through the middle, attach with tape. And make a split in the middle of the board, make a new, equally sized one and do the same on that one. Then just put the other piece horizontally across the screen and attach with some tape in the corners so it stays up.

I regret not taking pics.

[–]Reavers_Go4HrdBrn 4 points5 points ago

me and my friends did that exact same thing, we used chairs and such to prop up the huge pieces of cardboard, we practically built separate rooms to sit in for splitscreen

[–]SirNoName 3 points4 points ago

What about the top two guys...?

[–]Reavers_Go4HrdBrn 4 points5 points ago

We would play two on two so the bottom two sat in the lower cardboard room, and the top two sat on the chairs above them

[–]SirNoName 1 point2 points ago

I see...

[–]Jmvars 3 points4 points ago

They had to stack chairs or something so they saw over. The 2 bottom ones had to sit/lay down to not see the top screens. I usually had to be on one of the bottom ones because I was maybe 7 or 8 at the time.

[–]Zebracerous 5 points6 points ago

All the missed karma

[–]RadiantSun 2 points3 points ago

new LCD and LED TVs and their jellular screens won't hold up as well as glass CRT TV screens.

[–]Jmvars 2 points3 points ago

Playing on a CRT is worth the action it gives.

[–]RadiantSun 2 points3 points ago

It does sound super fun to play GE007 without screenpeeking bastardry. Gonna try it next time I have enough people over.

[–]fanboy_killer 0 points1 point ago

Love for Nightfire gets rewarded with karma=) Such a great overlooked game.

[–]GREG_GREG_GREG 3 points4 points ago

GREAT REWARD

[–]OuterShpongolia 2 points3 points ago

Looks like someone's on duty down voting all the comments in here, and they're doing a pretty good job of it too.

[–]wreckleague 2 points3 points ago

This made Goldeneye WAY more fun, especially when you could see a sliver of their screen to have a slight clue as to where they were.

[–]philphan25 2 points3 points ago

During 4 player split screen, one of my friends would always yell out "SCREENWATCHER"

[–]ratdump 2 points3 points ago

We played a ton of 2v2 goldeneye (n64) growing up. We used a splitter to hook 2 TVs up to the n64, facing away from each other, and taped construction paper over the other team's screens. Was epic.

[–]crimsontwist 2 points3 points ago

Certainly one way to fix screen whoring. lol

[–]Blueson 21 points22 points ago

[–]saladtossing 23 points24 points ago

At least the title isn't "Secrecy Level: Local Multiplayer"

[–]phrygN 15 points16 points ago

1 tv with 120 hz refresh rate 2 pair of 3d glasses. Have top screen send even frames have bottom screen send odd frames have glasses tuned to correct frame rate and channel.... thank you have a nice day.

[–]SHDC 8 points9 points ago

this gets posted every week or so it seems :(

[–]Ronni3sRobotPants 3 points4 points ago

Am i the only one who has thought console developers should start incorporating a way for video output to be distributed from one console to multiple sources based on the number of players, so that if desired each player could have their own screen? It seems entirely feesible to me, but I'm sure someone here will prove me logistically retarded.

[–]dorkes_malorkes 4 points5 points ago

Most current games can't even be displayed at 1080p with the current consoles. So Making them display at twice 1080p resolution is absurd.

[–]SlimSpaceman 2 points3 points ago

Perhaps if there was a sort of an external video splitting device? I'm sure that it could be done relatively inexpensively. That said, if you have two screens, might as well have two consoles. The only thing missing is a LAN feature in recent games really...

[–]Ronni3sRobotPants 1 point2 points ago

We are able to do it with system link provided we have multiple systems at our disposal, i am just wondering why, when there is obviously a unanimous problem with screen lookers, console designers havent thought of this as a major selling point. It also would be nice to not have to stare at a 10 inch screen when playing 4 player...

[–]Kminardo 3 points4 points ago

The original ps3 designs had a dual hdmi out (and 3 ethernet Ports and 8 USB shots) but it was ultimately scrapped on release. So yes console makers have considered this. I'm guessing not enough processing power, our it would drive the cost too high.

[–]Sjgolf891 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I remember this. Next gen, maybe

[–]thekquinn 3 points4 points ago

Halo 1 is the best

[–]jhowlett 3 points4 points ago

I use to be the champion of screen watching, so much so that my pops bought a second xbox so we could play in two separate rooms.

[–]emazzuca 2 points3 points ago

sweet, I remember doing this for Goldeneye

[–]xEzio 1 point2 points ago

That what I was thinking if they would make a tv like that! Lol

[–]Pistolsmoke 1 point2 points ago

Did this with Goldeneye. Got two TV's, put them back to back. And taped half of each screen and played 2 v 2 Multiplayer for entire weekends. I still miss those times.

[–]P00KIEPIE 1 point2 points ago

Haters gonna hate but we've all done it

[–]esaevian 1 point2 points ago

It wasn't until late-high-school/college that I knew that screen looking was frowned upon. I mean, their screen is right there! Looking at their screen is just part of the game, else they would have forced lan-only multiplayer between consoles.

Then i stopped playing multiplayer

[–]ClassyMcSass 1 point2 points ago

Filthy Chreen Sheaters

[–]clayt0n 1 point2 points ago

goldeneye and cardboard .... mp fps didn't get better since then ... :(

[–]AVTRuniltiranyu 1 point2 points ago

20x Slowpokes have been deposited into your account

[–]Smokie4567 0 points1 point ago

Or you know, you could just both agree that screen watching is acceptable.

[–]relfy0318 0 points1 point ago

did that alllllll the time and I would still punch my brother underneath the blanket for trying to cheat and look through it.

[–]JimDrizzle 0 points1 point ago

I still remember all the 'you're cheating, don't look at my screen' arguments.

[–]triplettjon 0 points1 point ago

polarized film is great at this and a set of 3d glasses place it on one side of the screen and you cant see threw it unless you have the glasses on :)

[–]Truce_Giantmidget 0 points1 point ago

I feel like one of the few who honored the no screen watching rule. Not because I thought it was wrong but I was just better then my family and friends at all the games we played, and it was barely fun already so I had to handicap myself which made me even better. Then the internet happend and I found out I'm nothing special. My family and friends are just extremely bad at games.

[–]shifty1776 0 points1 point ago

Such is the punishment for a filthy screen-looker

[–]Cerevus 0 points1 point ago

and i thought i was a genius when i did this with my brother way back in the day

[–]Ucanhazturkey 0 points1 point ago

I remember seeing this back in like 2005, this is ridiculously old.

[–]Kama_Blue 0 points1 point ago

fucking screenlookers

[–]Wheniod 0 points1 point ago

This is the first time I see it. Lol genius and retarded.

[–]rindindin 0 points1 point ago

Why is a ghost playing video games with that guy?

[–]mr_burrito 0 points1 point ago

As a devout screen-peeker, I always say it's not cheating, because everyone can do it so no one gets an unfair advantage. Not my fault if you're too proud. It's just part of the game.

[–]insanitybuild 0 points1 point ago

My friend and I would always have the honor system.

He would honorably park his scorpion tank in the corner of blood gulch and honorably watch my screen to pick me off from the other side claiming "He had good eyes" because "He ate carrots".

Then I honorably figured out the ghost could stun lock scorpions, and if the trigger was pumped, would be insanely accurate.

Then he honorably would quit midway after I honorably headshotted him for camping teleporters with the rockets.

[–]ixireveng3ixi 0 points1 point ago

Doing it right.

[–]erfg12 0 points1 point ago

CHEATER!

[–]moogoesthecat 0 points1 point ago

1: "Screen cheater!"

2: "No!"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

why did he tape it diagonally like that? i would make that shit perfectly horizontal

[–]I_Am_The_Shazbot 0 points1 point ago

I miss these days. Playing halo 1 with my two cousins and my best friend. No game has ever captured the pure fun that is halo 1 split-screen.

[–]wswim 0 points1 point ago

Dedication.

[–]Ludoweez -1 points0 points ago

Despite the age of this photo, it still makes me lawl every time.

[–]Big_Brick -1 points0 points ago

The good ol' days :)

[–]xhabeascorpusx -1 points0 points ago

I swear to the Spaghetti God that if I see this repost one more time.... I'm going to go fill retard.

[–]Schildpatt -3 points-2 points ago

That's why I play fighting games.

[–]Moses385 -1 points0 points ago

EL OH EL

[–]razorx71 -1 points0 points ago

We used 2 tvs, a co-ax splitter, and had heavy poster board on opposite halves of the tvs. Those TVs were basically dedicated to the goldeneye machine.

[–]InternetApocalypse02 -4 points-3 points ago

Yup, old old old.
