Yes, and Jack Black was perfect...in that he didn't dominate the movie and wasn't focused on him.

He can only be taken in small doses, so a small part is good for him.

His back and forth with his polar opposite mousey-type dude who also worked at the record store was great. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS!??!!?

And at the end, he turned out to be one cool, humble dude while still being edgy. Jack Black has one hell of a singing voice.

Everything Nick Hornby's written is greatness. I sure wish he'd come out with another one. His last novel, 'Juliet, Naked' was excellent, but it was a quick read and was published years ago.

I didn't care for Slam or the other one with the people jumping off the tower thing, but high fidelity, about a boy, and juliet naked were pretty solid. Fever Pitch is still on my reading list...

It's also worth noting that John Cusack's character in the book is even more of a neurotic whiner than in the movie. The scene where he goes to visit his parents and can't stop whining about how happy they are while he's miserable is pretty funny.
