[–]BeingSeriousHere 14 points15 points ago

...even!

[–]achesy 14 points15 points ago

Heavens to Murgatroyd!

[–]BunnehZnipr 4 points5 points ago

Came here to say this. =P

[–]benjamari214 2 points3 points ago

I am glad i'm not the only one to notice this.

[–]BetaMemeTester 1 point2 points ago

Thank you.

[–]Pigmy 1 point2 points ago

Thank you.

[–]xafimrev 6 points7 points ago

Its neither, its exiting upstage.

Edit: Look folks, the cat is moving away from the viewer, not left or right regardless of stage or house. In theater parlance, up stage is away from the viewer towards the back of the stage.

Edit2: I can see if you think the viewer is sitting in a loge box on the left of the theater and the back of the couch is actually the back of the theater stage left would be correct. I assume the viewer is sitting center stage and the cat is falling off the back of the prop (the couch).

[–]johnnyBenchCalled1 2 points3 points ago

It's away from the viewer/audience. Therefore it is up stage. Unless we are watching from the side of the stage.

[–]Beeristheanswer 2 points3 points ago

I would argue that left stage is left stage wherever the viewer is. This is a good example to disprove your upstage-theory.

[–]D-Ack 2 points3 points ago

No stage left is left from the view of the stage. House left is left from the view of th house or audience. Also it is called upstage further from the audience and downstage closer to the audience no matter what because in the past (starting with the greeks) stages were made with slanted or often built into a hill so all in the audience could see. The back of the stage had to be further up, and the term upstage was coined and is still used. Here is a Diagram

[–]Beeristheanswer 2 points3 points ago

As a stage technician my argument is that the build of said stage where the cat is performing clearly makes it a stage left exit, because the upstage is a wall while all other sides are open.

[–]zeppelinfromled 2 points3 points ago

As a stagehand, I just wanted to add that this is a thoroughly pointless discussion, seeing as it's a couch and stage directions do not apply. Just saying.

[–]Beeristheanswer 1 point2 points ago

It's all in good fun mate!

[–]D-Ack 1 point2 points ago

I misunderstood sir I thought you were arguing the opposite. I thought you saying you were "disproving" was disproving the the people who agreed that upstage is the back. I am sorry good sir. We agree with each other. I too am a stage technician.

[–]Beeristheanswer 1 point2 points ago

Sorry, I might have worded it badly comrade.

[–]D-Ack 1 point2 points ago

This has been the most polite Reddit argument ever

[–]johnnyBenchCalled1 1 point2 points ago

I agree, I think we should all go back and Upvote xafimrev. He was unfairly down voted for his original reply.

[–]johnnyBenchCalled1 0 points1 point ago

I was assuming that the camera was at the center of the audience and was not taking into account the wall's position.

[–]xafimrev 0 points1 point ago

So you agreed with me correct?

[–]johnnyBenchCalled1 0 points1 point ago

I do, but it appears its up to debate according to some professionals.

[–]Teotwawki69 7 points8 points ago

If that's upstage, then the designer really sucks.

[–]zeppelinfromled 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, he designed his stage to look like a couch, so I see a few problems from the beginning.

[–]actlikeyoudontknowme 1 point2 points ago

...you know you some snagglepuss

[–]Ev00 -1 points0 points ago

Hah that cat was all FTFY I'm outty

[–]Teotwawki69 -1 points0 points ago

That was exactly how I saw it.

[–]funksbro 14 points15 points ago

This is me when i get caught watching porn.

Clever remark you say? nope just the title of the original post 2 days ago. http://www.reddit.com/r/reactiongifs/comments/tywpg/when_i_get_caught_watching_porn/

[–]sentimentalpirate 5 points6 points ago

The gif in that link is much better. The extra time spent turning his head to the camera then just falling makes it 10x funnier.

[–]kurt99 0 points1 point ago

Agreed. I'm waiting for someone to post this .gif as "Do a barrel roll!" in 2 days.

[–]sachegrande[S] 0 points1 point ago

the original post 2 days ago.

Hahaha @ original... Although I have to commend the person for posting it in /r/reactiongifs with a title like that.

[–]DarwinismObvious 21 points22 points ago

Why do cats instinctively just fall over when you put an outfit on them?

[–]sfcjohn 14 points15 points ago

It is the same reason they act weird when you put tape on them.

[–]DarwinismObvious 25 points26 points ago

I'm not sure how that answered my question fine sir.

[–]lookieausername 1 point2 points ago

Their balance goes all caddywampus.

[–]TRAUMAjunkie 1 point2 points ago

Darwinism... Obviously

[–]sfcjohn 5 points6 points ago

Sorry, but it is most likely that the outfit pinches on a pressure point that has never had pressure on it which seizes part of the body. I know how to do the same things on humans but have not received much training for the cat scenario. It could also be the overwhelming sensation of the new. Humans were introduced to the bicycle and when on it fall to the right or the left based on assumptions of how our body used to move.

I say do an empirical study and find out. Watson proved the grasp reflex by having a baby hold on to a hanger. Uou will never find out unless you try things, of course with the appropriate safe guards. I wish I could tell you about the different cortices of a cat but I just don't know them. I want to say look at the works of Skinner and Toleman, but I am not sure.

[–]Jack_Vermicelli 5 points6 points ago

Nothing to do with pressure points. I think it's that, not being clothes-wearers, anything in contact with them is assumed to be environmental, not sartorial. A garmet on the back feels like a wall or other object likely to be fairly stable, so they feel safe leaning/sheltering toward it. They've never developed a good error-correction process on that assumption.

If you're familiar enough with a cat to be able to grab it without it attacking you, the point is generally the back of the neck. I'm no cat biologist, but I believe that's where cat mothers will hold on to their kittens to pick them up.

Videos of people "deactivating" cats can be quite funny.

[–]irawwwr 0 points1 point ago

[–]GrizTod -1 points0 points ago

Try stapling construction paper to them. They act up quite a bit!

(I kid, I kid)

[–]SharksCantSwim 2 points3 points ago

I don't know the science about it but it has something to do with their balance. Eg. If you get a piece of cardboard and put it around a cats waist and put a peg at the top to hold it around them, they will loose balance and fall over onto their site.

Source: I have a cat and when I did this it fell over.

[–]DerpusOfValues 2 points3 points ago

Observe: cats don't like having pressure on their bodies. Works the same way as their whiskers, which they use to determine whether they can fit comfortably in tight spaces. If anything compresses their fur, it completely messes up their proprioception.

[–]unclear_plowerpants 2 points3 points ago

Maru would beg to differ.

[–]shitterplug 1 point2 points ago

Willfully cramming yourself into a small box is different from being stuffed into one.

[–]unclear_plowerpants 0 points1 point ago

Also, Maru is a stuntcat.

[–]andd81 1 point2 points ago

Perhaps they misidentify the feeling of compression as being held in hands.

[–]commonman26 7 points8 points ago

CAT YOU ARE DRUNK

[–]KittenWithMittens 4 points5 points ago

Okay, the reason the cat falls over is because there is pressure on its spine.

This causes their back legs to lose a good deal of motor function and they instinctively roll onto their back.

It doesn't hurt them at all, maybe a minor discomfort, and it affects some cats more than others.

Try wrapping a dish cloth/tea towel around your cats middle and gently tying it. Your cat will have a crazy urge to fall on the floor. :P

(Some cats can panic when you do this, so if your cat is freaking out when you do this, please stop, not here to be cruel to animals.)

[–]maowao 1 point2 points ago

EXIT STAGE LEFT, EXIT STAGE RIGHT.

TEAR DOWN THE COCKPIT DOOR, HULK. HOGAN.

[–]bartpieters 1 point2 points ago

Bee gone cat!

[–]Space_Bungalow 1 point2 points ago

There was a caption for this last time I saw it here.

"Autobots! Roll out!" Laughed my ass off

[–]myapurple 1 point2 points ago

This is the only thing on Reddit that I've physically walked around the house to show each of my family members.

I'm still laughing, and I got up 30 minutes ago.

Oh god, I can't handle it.

ABANDON THREAD

[–]NotARandomNumber 0 points1 point ago

Rose let go :(

[–]infinitemonkeyrage 0 points1 point ago

Exit stage right, pursuing bear?

[–]cubism 0 points1 point ago

it's "pursued BY a bear"

[–]infinitemonkeyrage 0 points1 point ago

it's also exit stage left, pursued by bear, but given sachegrande posted the title as Exit Stage Right, I thought some alterations were in order.

[–]broiled 0 points1 point ago

Cat overboard!!

[–]Wilogana 0 points1 point ago

Pilot: There goes engine 4, and there's still too much weight on board!

Bumble-cat: Captain, it's ok, I got this.

Pilot: No, Bumble-cat! There must be another way!

Bumble-cat: Dude, I really fucking hate this costume.

Falls

Pilot: Salute Bless you, Bumble-cat.

[–]therealnobody 0 points1 point ago

am I the only one who hears the "BA DA CHA" comedy sound effect?

[–]five_of_five 0 points1 point ago

And I'm sure he still landed on his feet.

[–]brianbrianbrian 0 points1 point ago

That is one smoothly animated gif.

[–]cagesandalarms257 0 points1 point ago

The costume must have made him think he could fly.

[–]brucecreamsteam 0 points1 point ago

75 percent of this upvote is for the title alone. Clever Clever

Exit stage cat

[–]wanbo37 0 points1 point ago

I think I know that couch....

[–]eatsoup 0 points1 point ago

"This is Bee, going down!"

[–]Bac-ILL-us 0 points1 point ago

Flight of the Bumbleb... welp, never mind.

[–]ShadowPhoenix951 0 points1 point ago

...That would be stage left.

[–]devatrox 0 points1 point ago

My cat does this sometimes (without clothes on). She sits on the edge of my couch and suddenly decides she wants to be petted which then looks almost exactly like in the GIF.

Before I got her I believed cats to be ninja-like, totally aware of their surroundings and never set a wrong foot.

[–]yyx9 0 points1 point ago

(digs up Rush - Exit... Stage Left vinyl) Jacob's Ladder!
