The Committee for the Reduction of Redundancy and the Antiproliferation of Repetition has decided not to meet until they have their first meeting and thus will not be meeting until the first time.

Their Pre-meeting Statement wanted to make this clear before they had their first meeting, so that it would not be unor confusing.

So their first meeting will actually be their first meeting and they will not have a meeting before the first meeting.

It doesn't mean that they actually voted. Back in the day before Season 2 a link appeared on Fark "Farkers, MTV is having a vote to see where the Jersey Shore mutants live for next season. Detroit is only barely in the lead. Let's fix that for them.".

I think Reddit was voting for the Congo so Fark decided to go for Detroit. Over the next 24 hours we ended up swinging the vote to 82%, but that was with their servers almost melting. (Lots of time outs near the end. We had people on .edu domains voting over night with massive amounts of bandwidth).

tl;dr: These aren't locked polls, a script and one person could have done that.

"Based?" I think we can argue that there are battleships in both of them... but surely it's hardly based on the board game. The article says:

When "Battleship" hits theaters, retailers will be selling an updated version of the board game in which players choose to be either the Alien or Navy fleet, simulating the two forces that face off in the film.

So I'd argue that the game is now going to be modified to resemble the movie. Whereas it wasn't before. Also... oh crap. Looks like I need to buy myself a copy of candyland before they ruin it.

Columbia Pictures picked up "Candy Land," in which Adam Sandler is scheduled to star.

Let's take a look, shall we?

The United States has (approx.) 315m citizens. Battleship has made $30m so far, or $0.0952 whatever per citizen. Let's round that up to $0.10 for simplicities sake.

The rest of the World has (approx.) 5.7b citizens. Battleship has made $226m so far, or $0.0396 something per citizen. So rounded up, about $0.04.

Even after taking Africa out of the picture (approx. 1b people live there), it comes down to about $0.048.

So based on that, the rest of the world really is more cultured. ;)

Try taking all the places it wasn't released (so there goes China, 1.33 billion more, and most of the middle east, we'll just say that brings the additional gone to 1.5 billion) and the places where practically no one can afford to see a movie (so knock off a sizeable chunk of the rest of asia)... we can keep going.

Mind you, this doesn't actually demonstrate anything, and we both already knew that. The reason Transformers, Battleship, and their ilk do better outside the US than in the US is that the plots are simple, so not as much gets lost in translation. People who don't speak English aren't going to like Good Night and Good Luck or Thank You For Smoking, because they rely incredibly heavily on American culture and history for their entertainment value.

Oh and we're actually getting close to 7 billion people worldwide now.

The correct analysis would be polling the people who had an active and meaningful choice whether they paid to see the movie. It doesn't add anything to include people from, oh say, North Korea. This poll (as well as it's presentation as a potential restoration of faith in humanity) is slightly misleading. It technically only shows that people don't care what she names her baby, not that they don't care about Snooki or Jersey Shore all together. If the last option had been "Who gives a fuck about these people?" then that probably would have been a better indicator of genuine apathy. Even better still, however, would have been if no one had voted in the poll to begin with, as most people who REALLY don't give a shit are likely to not even vote in the first place.
